i think their electronic balance is not well made because doing a nose dive mean the electronic get his limit Spedd vs Balance and the board must chose priority to balance and brake himself the wheel to save the balance .

The onewheel will "pushback" to let you know to slow down. When it does this the nose of the board will literally lift up as if the board is trying to brake, if you ride through that or try to push the nose back down the motor stops and the nose dives. This happens when you're going too fast for the motor to keep up or if it's close to over heating and again you need to slowdown. Its not very common to reach the limit of the onewheel, but definitely possible.

It’s super fun. The floating feel is real. It’s the closest thing to surfing or deep powder snowboarding I’ve ever felt.
However, I will probably never ride one again. Within 4 days of buying one, (I’m also 62 lifer skater and snowboard) I had a spectacular low speed 2 mph crash that ripped all my hamstrings right off the bone. Back foot came off the board, front stayed on. Helicopter ride to Shock Trauma, 4 days in the hospital, and six weeks non weight bearing before I can even start rehab. I thought my demise would be a high speed crash. This board doesn’t necessarily want to kill you, but it will if you make the slightest dumbass mistake, like I did.
Yet and still, I’m tempted. It’s so fun. BEWARE!

And to think they now have these one wheel unicycles that have a much larger single wheel and some of these things are getting speeds up to 70 mph. Like the Begod Master and others.. These things are INSANE and you have to be just as crazy to get on something with one wheel going that fast where you're just standing up. If you have very smooth roads then it can be fun but if you had one good size pothole going at those speeds you're going to find out what it's like to be Superman real fast before you slam face first into the ground and probably break a number of bones if not outright being killed unless you're in a good helmet and body armor.
Same goes for these scooters which were basically kids toys and now they have these scooters with little 10-in wheels that go up to 90 miles an hour. These people are out of their minds. I converted my mountain bike to an e-bike and it hit speeds of 30 miles an hour when I have a slight tailwind and even that makes me a little nervous because I've been in motorcycle accidents when I was younger. But I am on a large 26 inch mountain bike that is very solid and has shock absorbers and even still hitting even small potholes and bumps at those speeds I feel it right through the entire bike. Most of these things are death traps and are keeping doctors and emergency rooms in business but they really need to be many more videos like this warning about the dangers of these things

CPSC is more or less trying to shut OneWheel down and make people stop riding Onewheels and as a person who made this video, I do not agree with CPSC about this at all. I still ride my OneWheel every chance I get and it has been one of the best joys in my life. And if you're here because of the title or the intro of my video, do not watch half of the video, finish the whole thing. My video is built to show you what can go wrong, so you don't push your luck and respect the devices limitations. As a former skateboarder, windsurfer and a terrible BMX rider that broke many bones riding that bike, I can tell you that every sport has its own dangers. I just believe OneWheel's dangers were not obvious until you face them and that is why my video is scripted the way it is.
So, I do not agree with CPSC's decisions, however, I feel like more people should be reminded that they're on a single wheel board that balances itself and it has hard limitations.

I had mine turn off going down a slight hill with 24% battery and was able to somersault out safely but criticized for saying if you can’t safely ride it below 30% battery it shouldn’t work under that charge. I still love it and now the limits for the most part But it’s definitely a Dad killer. Poor bastards

Thought this would be a hit piece discouraging anyone from buying one, but I'm pleasantly surprised at how candid this review was. I've been a snowboard instructor for ~20 years, so I really appreciate the discussion about technical aspects and limitations, and how user input / error can lead to a bad time (and hence what to keep in mind when operating one). I knew there would be a learning curve and that it would take some practice before using it on difficult terrain, but this reinforces that and reminds you to stay humble when starting out. I think I want one even more than before, even if all those 'extras' are actually essential and will make that bottom line hurt more than it already does.

As a snowboarder since 1986, I found the feel of deep powder cruising. The carving feels the same, but turning on a one wheel requires some retraining. For instance, on a one wheel, if you get slowed down by spotty thick grass or mud, you have to push weight forward instead of back to get out of it. The turning is almost a mirror image.

Great review. I actually busted my ass on my XR when I first got it. I had it on a lower mode trying to play it “safe” and go slower but all that mode did was initiate kickback at a lower speed. I didn’t understand what was happening. I wasn’t “fighting” the kickback, I was trying to regain my balance because the kickback was throwing me off balance I felt like I was going to fall backwards. I tried to regain my balance and the board kept speeding up. Mind you I wasn’t leaning forward, the board was still leaning back and speeding up. Since it was leaning back I didn’t understand why I wasn’t slowing down and since it was leaning back far back I “fought” to regain my balance and this thing ends up at about 25 mph going through a stop sign with the nose up. It was then I pancaked on my back at 25 mph. My helmet saved my life.

Untrue statement, the OneWheel is very dangerous because of the “nosedive” issues. I’ve only nosedived my OneWheel at 17.5 miles per hour about seven times. All on asphalt. That being said, the OneWheel is the coolest toy I’ve ever owned! But always wear a helmet!

Slide Wreck Dan I really wish they’d leverage the BT functionality to make an audible pushback function. Think along the lines of the beeping that becomes ever more furious on vehicle park distance control as you approach an obstacle. As the available motive force and expended motive force approach parity you warn of an impending under power by going from infrequent beeps to a steady tone.
I also think being able to set an artificial top speed might allow for additional pushback effort as you’ve got more reserve torque on hand if you’re not busy overcoming top speed rider wind resistance and rolling losses. I have a pair of pints and I understand the pushback is more pronounced on these smaller machines.

Crashing in water can hurt but crashing on a OW can (and did me) put you in the hospital! Many times I’ve wanted to cut mine into 1000 pieces and send it back along with a giant juicy terd! Bottom line is, if you’re single, have fun. If you’re a family person and you have people who count on you, you’re an idiot for getting on one! Its not “if” it’s “when”

Great video! I bought the plus a couple years ago and loved it but after around 1,200 miles and many nosedives later I no longer trust them and have moved on to EUC. THE Onewheel also makes my knees hurt. I live in the mountains and the weak little Onewheel can’t handle the off-road stuff like the EUC especially if you throw a rough grass hill in there. If you are watching this and thinking of getting a Onewheel I very strongly suggest getting an electric unicycle instead. Top of the line ones are practically the same price as a XR but get more than double range, higher speed ( meaning if you ride about 18-20mph or slower like me you’ll never overpower the system and eat shit), better off road capability, most have a trolley handle like a luggage case for easy transport, more natural standing position reducing fatigue by a lot so you can use that extra range and during most fails you simply end up going from riding to trotting instead of kissing pavement, can jump up curbs instead of bonking, can ride down stairs, some versions have an included mud guard so you can save $100. Actually you save more than that if you factor in all the items needed to complete the Onewheel turd just to be able to do some (not all) of the stuff I do on my $2,000 KS16X. You need a fender, flight fins, an external battery even on their XR. Still won’t go the 70-90 miles my 16X will on a charge and still can’t handle the mountain bike trails we ride 🤷🏽‍♂️. Still gotta carry it so you might as well get that $100 handle too 😂. With an EUC you’ll wipe the smile right off a Onewheel riders face as you run circles around them safer and for less money. Onewheels are cool if you don’t want to do a whole lot of adventure riding, go very far, or if you don’t mind charging a lot. Idk about the XR but the plus only goes about 3-5 miles max in the winter on smooth pavement and it’s rated at 5-7 miles. This is like less than half an hour of riding around with range anxiety on top of that. I don’t see the XR being worth the price. Enough rambling. If I saved just one person from wasting their money or getting hurt then it’s worth it!

True true. I bought mine and won't say I regret it, but I definitely underestimated the learning curve and I will attribute that to my lack of research before buying. Onewheel company doesn't really make any efforts to warn their customer's about this learning curve in my opinion. I nose-dived earlier this week while practicing breaking and slammed my head against the pavement. If I was not wearing a helmet I would probably have a serious concussion. I am enjoying the process of learning and will say that the product is very enjoyable, but it's definitely not something I would recommend someone if they want to be able to commute safely right out of the box. Also, I don't know how much this would hurt their profits, but I think it's pretty sneaky not to offer some sort of 30-day money-back guarantee. It makes it seem like the company knows that they are marketing the product to seem super easy, safe, and chill while knowing that the average consumer will get the product while super hyped by the ads and realize that they are better off buying a more traditional EV.
