This video is frustrating. On one side, we have a great product that seems fun, built with a lot of thought and engineering. I'd probably take it everywhere with all that range and power it has. On the other side, we have greedy businessmen that introduced "features" that brick your device if you unplug the battery. In a product that only has a 6 months warranty and that you have to ship back to USA if anything wrong happens. And all, under the "it's for your safety" excuse. I really was excited to get this one. Not anymore.
While I do agree with right to repair initiatives, it is worth clarifying that the board only bricks if you unplug the battery from the BMS (battery management system) and is able to be unplugged from the main controller. In theory if you needed a new battery unit, future motion could provide just that part without you having to send in the whole board.
Ghosting Update - Future Motion got back to me and are sending me a new front footpad. I asked specifically if it was hardware or firmware and here's what they said "your reported problem is not a software issue, it is likely related to the footpad itself". So hopefully for anyone that got the first batch of boards, if they have any ghosting issues they should get a new footpad and problem solved. Will test out the new footpad and put a little follow up to see if it solved the issue ! Thanks everyone for watching - hope this video helps 🤙.
That’s a HUGE safety issue-not knowing if the board will just randomly go rogue, keeping going down the street without you on it and plow into a crowd of kids at 30mph. Man they better address that SERIOUSLY!
"I asked specifically if it was hardware or firmware and here's what they said, "your reported problem is not a software issue, it is likely related to the footpad itself". they did this purposely, they said it was the footpad but it's not, its them not taking responsibility for a mass recall. also, if you change the battery with another One-wheel brand new it bricks the board itself- it's basically a company who is "anti-right to repair" you don't own you're one wheel even after buying it.

@As the World Burns because they will not support the repair community. Essentially doing anything other than aesthetics to the board will void the warranty and they also monopolize the availability of oem parts.
@As the World Burns the other aspect is that they will not support the board at all after the so called warranty sticker have been broken. Even to change a tire. On the GT as soon as you disconnect the connector from BMS to controller the board is designed to create an error and you have no choice but to pay them to correct it IF they even will.
@Matthew Hayslett kinda. The thing with modding and repairing yourself is that on company perspective if anything goes wrong they get the blame. Some people know what they are doing - some dont and do anyways. Some use quality parts - some save a buck and buy from Wish or something. I know this is what companies use as an excuse to hinder repairs but it kinda hard balance. Also legislation differs by countries so somewhere it might be easier to offer self repair than elsewhere.
@Firaphex that doesn’t matter. “One wheel catches fire” is a far more catchy news headline than “one wheel catches fire after a knockoff battery replacement”.

Thanks SirWrender ! I agree, confidence in the board is super important ! I'm thinking the new footpad will fix the issue and I assume all of the units they're currently sending out already have the fixed footpad version in them. Cheers !

Was strongly considering just getting a new GT but after all the comments about the battery and repair practices it’s a firm “No” for me. Great video….was 98% there! Gotta love capitalism!
The ghosting is definitely a huge issue. I actually got hurt because it went backwards after getting off, forcing me into doing the splits and partially tearing my lateral knee ligament. I contacted Future-motion, and they call it a “sticky pad”. I just got it back, but I’m still too insured to ride it. I have to admit, I’m not sure if they truly have a fix for it and if my board is now actually fixed. It will be serval month, before I can ride it again. I love watching your videos because I’ve lived in Calgary for so many years, so cool watching you riding around where I used to go on my boosted board years ago!
I have a mag handle on the XR, lots of people dont care but I like having both handles as someone who rides every day I can say both handles have situations where they’re appreciatedz
Great to see some local shredding in Calgary. I sure hope they went to metric fasteners. You could also mention the lower mileage has something to do with the temperature out. I have to wait till it's 10C out before I can ride to work on my XR.
On my xr I needed both feet on and the front foot touching both sensors. Why am I able to just touch both sensors on the front and have the board go? Is that a form of ghosting?
I want the GT but I have a XR. I'll probably buy one when they fix all the software issues and glitches. The range alone and less charge time is what sells it to me.
This is the correct answer. Ghosting is from a faulty footpad. Austen, be sure to reach out to FM support and they will send you a replacement pad for free. I had to do this as well and it was very quick and painless. There is no reason to risk future ghosting issues that could potentially break or injure something or someone. Great video! Keep up the good work.
@@Trail_Clydesdale Thank you ! I have sent them a message about it, I'll see what they say and put a little update in so people know. If its a simple front footpad swap I'll be pleased !
@@AustenHartley just came from a short ride and my GT ghosted on hard stops 3 times. Got it twice on video. Really hoping there’s a fix for this, this board rocks but this is a serious safety issue.
Thanks for the video, first time seeing your channel. I got my GT on Thursday and on 2nd ride on Sunday had multiple ghosting issues. Caught a couple of them on video (LMK if you want to see them) where the board just took off and could have been bad depending on what it hit. I took advice from your video and sent a msg to FM. Not sure if they will replace it, but I had the carbon fender and that is pretty wrecked now from when the board popped up in the air and landed right on it. Bigger issue is the danger of a 35lb board traveling uncontrolled at 35mph. (caught that data on the app)
Got to share, I won 2 grand in Vegas came come and saw the gt video 6 hours after released and said I have to get it! Broke even but thank onewheel I'm so excited since October
2 hours in a smooth/empty parking lot you'll feel pretty confident. The one thing I would suggest is learn out to float (ride) both ways and turn both ways before you leave that parking lot. Most OW riders do not know how to float switch (right or left foot forward) and they end up in tricky situations on the street.
Awesome review. I'm not a owner yet. I read every comment before asking this question to avoid duplicates. You say the vast majority go with the treaded tire and that is what you would recommend. I'm very interested as to why. I had solidly chosen to go with the slick tire for the quiet ride as I saw a video where someone "upgraded" to a treaded tire on the older model. It was pretty noisy. I'd love to hear yours' and other's thoughts on treaded versus slick tires. Thank you again for a great review.
I've ridden both ! I'd go with the treaded ! Slick is great if you are JUST doing city riding in a place with good weather. If you plan to do any trails or ride where the weather changes a lot, the treaded is (in my opinion) the better option.
Same reason you drive your car with treaded tires and not race slicks. Riding over any type of standing water and you have a very high chance of sliding. It also allows for more traction in imperfect road conditions (gravel, dirt, sand, rocks)
Great Video man! Getting mine here soon and hope the first batch gremlins aren’t a concern. Seeing this makes me excited for late night rips around Downtown Calgary👌
I heard the slick tire is a rounded Pint style. I like the flatter profile of the Hoosier slick and apparently changing the tire is out of the question anymore 😕
Other than not needing to remove the rails to install, how are these rim protectors different than what the Float Life offers? I've been looking for a form of protection, and if these offer the same level of protection with less effort, it seems like a no brainer.
Hey Drew. I actually haven’t seen or used a pair of float life’s so I’m not totally sure. Ours are more of a rubber like material that goes over the rim though where as it looks like theirs is a harder plastic.
An easy way to make GT more your own and make it more to each individual rider is to add a push back bar under the under construction custom mode so you can adjust everything there and just ride how and what you want, also put a warning that weak push back is not safe and is not recommended (insert disclaimer) along with all the other adjustments..
Yoooo! Thank you for the killer review! Would you be willing to make a more indepth video about waterproofing the GT? If not, maybe share links to some reliable sources? Thank you!
Still waiting for my GT, but I PREFER a much stronger pushback in theory. The XR was way too subtle. I specifically ordered a GT for more torque for more safety and confidence. If they updated the pushback at all, I would only want them to do it as a customizable limited threshold on the app, so that way the default is to have it all the way up and those wanting to be more daring can tweak it a little down within reason. But honestly, I personally can’t take “more noticeable pushback” as a good complaint in my book, especially since it’s already happening LATER than the XR, which is great to know it has the power to do so. It’s a safety precaution based on available power, not an arbitrary “no fun allowed” rule. It’s possible it’s set to be a little reserved, but it’s there for good reasons. And the thing is, they didn’t remove the ability to push through pushback, it’s just harder to do than the XR apparently, so people can still do that if they choose. And the Onewheel I don’t personally feel is designed to even be a speed machine in the first place. I dunno, that’s my 2 cents.
I think the push back is more to try and protect the company then it is to protect people. You never know what it will take for someone to sue them. Otherwise they would've heard that same complaint, because EVERYONE said the same about it. They could've allowed for more, but keeping it at 20 mph is definitely something I'm sure they thought long and hard about. I guess that people could sign a waiver if they want to be able to adjust the push back though.
I have a pint x as my first onewheel and I did it because of the subtle pushback of the XR and the high likelihood of failure to recognize and respect it. I have zero desire to join the nosedive crew. You have to view pushback, on the device, as the HR department of a company… It is there to assist you while protecting the asset. I was slightly startled with the pushback on the pint x, but there is no confusion on what it is, and the respect that it enlightens you with. I do not think that they will ever release a custom pushback, nor do I believe that it is necessary. Remember…HR… lol.
I don't own one. But out on dirt trails, idk if its the same as a off-roading vehicle tires but is better to lower your psi. That way it grabs more to the dirt and is not rounded. When on the road, is okay to have it at regular psi that the tire shows. You guys should test that.
Just watched your vid. I have an xr, live in Calgary and my 3 month old son is named Austin. I like my xr it's plenty fast ya could use more range. Mines all white and I ride with a halo icon airframe helmet
I’ve absolutely loved my XR and wanted to upgrade. But I’d never buy any products future motion offers. No right to repair and no possibility to upgrade. I’m fine with a stock board. But I’d like to know it can be repaired without being bricked. Bullshit.
@@pac4ever455you could totally send it at 20 and keep going though pushback for a short period of time which is surprisingly fun to do bc of the power, but 20 is when the strong pushback kicks in so you can cruise just under 20, like 19.7 or something like that. But at 22 mph, the only way to get that speed is to commit, but you cant really cruise for a long period of time at that speed! Really fun board if it doesn't have an issue which mine has
Define "push back". Does it mean that you reach max speed and it stops acceleration or does it mean that it automatically deccelerates on it's own to a much slower speed?
@@AustenHartley it's not simply about going "fast", it's more accurate to say that you're entering the part of the motor's speed/torque curve where the board is becoming unable to provide enough torque to keep the nose up. There's a good FM video about it: ua-cam.com/video/WGn7iPN07XI/v-deo.html
Hey Austen! How is the GT compared to the XR in terms of precenting nose dives offroad? My pint X seems to hold its own, but every now and then it'll dive when I hit a bump that pushes the board a little too far and can't correct the forward motion and it dives. I want a stronger board that is very confident offroad and won't throw me forward! I never go over 16mph on the grass and I only weigh 140lbs and I try to ride with my weight towards the rear but still every once in a while it gets me and I'm starting to get frustrated! Ugh
It will be a world of a difference ! Especially at 140lbs you will be cruising over them ! It was one of my biggest complaints with the XR was when it can’t get over the little bumps - solved now with the gt 🤙
For $500 cheaper you can have an inmotion v12 HT with a knobby tire with all the water resistance included you can use the $500 to get a high speed charger and jump pads that you can use to actually catch air off anything you want. And it's tough as nails. With 30mile real world range. Not to mention it goes almost 40mph. Climbs 35 degree inclines with ease. These onewheels are overpriced and under the bar when it comes to speed and quality. I'm so glad I lost interest in these and bought an EUC instead. Since November I've learned to ride and ridden 700 miles mixed on and offroad. PS: My EXN HT goes up and down mountains all day, with regenerative braking and 40mile real world range in the worst conditions. Most days I can go between 50-70miles with ease and only have to get off if I want to take a break. Save your money folks, get an EUC.

I have a mag handle on the XR, lots of people dont care but I like having both handles as someone who rides every day I can say both handles have situations where they’re appreciatedz
yeah after a couple weeks now I put it back on haha. The board is too heavy to carry far without it.
Great to see some local shredding in Calgary. I sure hope they went to metric fasteners. You could also mention the lower mileage has something to do with the temperature out. I have to wait till it's 10C out before I can ride to work on my XR.
Calgary as in Canada ? do the law have any problems with people riding these on the streets etc ?
On my xr I needed both feet on and the front foot touching both sensors.
Why am I able to just touch both sensors on the front and have the board go? Is that a form of ghosting?
Wow nice! I'm from Manitoba and would like to know where you bought your GT?
I want the GT but I have a XR. I'll probably buy one when they fix all the software issues and glitches. The range alone and less charge time is what sells it to me.
Phenomenal review. Best on UA-cam to date. Thank you!!!
Thank you!
Just bought me a pint x today 8/26 ..I can’t wait to,demo it @ very young 65 ..c u on the trails
I'm 58 and I want one, probably buy one now. Would you recommend for some older people??
I would say go try one from a local seller or your local Onewheel group and see if you like it and feel comfortable on it !
Also why don’t they put a tire pressure monitor system on the board. Would be a sweet, easy feature to make.
I like that a lot !
So one of these things are worth the close to $4000 price tag with all the bells and whistles?
What is your opinion on the anti right to repair that future motion is showing
Will discuss in next video !
Whats about for a big guy 260 lbs in a steep city ? Do it will go up ?
Why did your headlight stay on in the rear while riding?
How is the GT today. Have the issues been fixed? Still works well? Considering purchasing. Thanks
I believe the ghosting issue is strictly just the front sensor. FM will send you a new one for return of the old one for free due to the ghosting
@@thewaffler7942 Ohhh man they should definitely replace it, 100% send them some photos and a video of it !!
Did you adjust the tire pressure? The egg shape tire is making hard to balance the board and wobbles awkwardly due to the tire shape
Yeah the GT tire takes some getting used to. Low pressure helps, especially for the trails.
Got to share, I won 2 grand in Vegas came come and saw the gt video 6 hours after released and said I have to get it! Broke even but thank onewheel I'm so excited since October
Aren’t the rear lights red when you ride forward? 9:42 looks white
Coming from someone who has been thinking about buying one, how hard was it to learn to ride it?
2 hours in a smooth/empty parking lot you'll feel pretty confident. The one thing I would suggest is learn out to float (ride) both ways and turn both ways before you leave that parking lot. Most OW riders do not know how to float switch (right or left foot forward) and they end up in tricky situations on the street.
I have never ridden one and don’t quite understand what “pushback” is. Could someone kindly explain please? Thanks
Please. Where can I get those guards for the rims. FloatSavers. I dunno. What to get that will fit

I had a question for long time : can I do 3D printing in my bedroom? Cuz I don't have enough space and don't have a good air conditioner
That’s one sweet looking board, mate! I may steal that look!
Thanks !
What is the weight limit of those things?
Hey idk the odds you’ll see this random comment, but what device is it you use to open the box in this video?
An easy way to make GT more your own and make it more to each individual rider is to add a push back bar under the under construction custom mode so you can adjust everything there and just ride how and what you want, also put a warning that weak push back is not safe and is not recommended (insert disclaimer) along with all the other adjustments..
Yoooo! Thank you for the killer review! Would you be willing to make a more indepth video about waterproofing the GT? If not, maybe share links to some reliable sources? Thank you!
What "flight fins" are you using? The wedge pro?

Has the ghosting issue been resolved?
Dude your board looks so dope🙆
Thanks man ! :)
Hey Austen, I'm in Calgary too and just bought a GT today....wanna go for a rip sometime?
How did you remove the Mag handle? I want to remove mine
When did yours arrive im still waiting
Does the rims protetor come with two pieces? I loved your yellow ones and I really want to buy for my friends birthday.
Yeah they come as a set !
Does anyone have an update on the issues mentioned in the comments?
Great video, I lived in Calgary for 18 years, wish I had a Onewheel then haha. So much territory to ride in!
Best review so far. Thanks. Where are those life savers from?
Thanks James ! Linked in the Description !
Well said, I was worried about trading up my XR.
I still can't wait for 3rd party parts!!
Do you have to pay a monthly all the time? Or is it false? If you pay a monthly how long do you have to pay it
Still waiting for my GT, but I PREFER a much stronger pushback in theory.
What the range of this board? I have an electric skateboard and it go 11 miles range until it die
20-32 miles
The fact that it doesnt come with the port cover is a huge red flag. Thanks for the honest review.
I know you said that you were in Canada but does it ship to Canada because on the onewheel website it was unclear
Yeah they do haha all good.
Great review! What psi are you rocking with for the treaded tire?
That was stock right out of the box ! Didn't measure but whatever it comes with, I think it's stated online or in another video somewhere.
@@AustenHartley I would check the psi with a cheap gauge because I saw another video where the guys tire was at 32psi out of box
I don't own one. But out on dirt trails, idk if its the same as a off-roading vehicle tires but is better to lower your psi. That way it grabs more to the dirt and is not rounded. When on the road, is okay to have it at regular psi that the tire shows. You guys should test that.
@@cherokeebear5302 yeah. I think it all depends on the type or road u are riding on most.
Just watched your vid. I have an xr, live in Calgary and my 3 month old son is named Austin. I like my xr it's plenty fast ya could use more range. Mines all white and I ride with a halo icon airframe helmet
Oh wicked !! I'm sure we've crossed paths !
I’ve absolutely loved my XR and wanted to upgrade. But I’d never buy any products future motion offers.
No right to repair and no possibility to upgrade. I’m fine with a stock board. But I’d like to know it can be repaired without being bricked. Bullshit.
A year later, how’s the push back ?
Hi at what speed did you encounter pushback? Also is the pushback as bad as people make it out to be?
19.5 pushback, not that bad, your good as long as you don’t go over 22
@@cryo3215 so how does the board feel between 20 and 22? I mean can you cruise at 20? Thanks!
Really fun board if it doesn't have an issue which mine has
We didn’t think it was bad at all. You can comfortably ride noticeably faster than the xr !
Define "push back". Does it mean that you reach max speed and it stops acceleration or does it mean that it automatically deccelerates on it's own to a much slower speed?
Ah just the nose of the board comes up a bit to warn you you're going fast.
Are those the 3dway pro wedges on the thumbnail?
No we just made those here in the shop yesterday.
People don’t want unicycles
@@AlphaBlue92 says you. Onewheels are slow, that's an actual fact.
@@jamesordwayultralightpilot I wasn’t talking about speed or defending one wheel
I’d honestly rather have a E scooter
@@AlphaBlue92 they're cool too. Cost more per mile than OW's and EUC's tho.

I just found out about these less than like 3 hours ago and I want one lmao. I'm worried about stuff people are saying though, like spontaneous combustion or ghosting.
I'm not sure about spontaneous combustion but ghosting seems to be an issue.
I'd love to see a comparison of the GT and XR on the same hills.
GT crushes the XR on the hills ! Probably one of the biggest differences !
whats the wait of the GT ?????? please
