For example when you want to travel with your Onewheel and can't fly with the battery. So you ship the battery only and carry the rest of the OneWheel on the plane. Impossible with the GT because FM is actively blocking it.

So far as I've seen, it doesn't seem that the beep is a warning that you're about to overpower the board, it seems to be a beep to tell you that you're accelerating too suddenly and about to bonk your nose on the ground. The beep seems to be most common when taking off at a low speed or from a standstill. To explain that slightly better; I've seen videos of people who gradually accelerated to maximum speed, and some who even nose dived, but got no beep warning only pushback. In contrast, I've seen people who are just rocking their hips back and forth and kind of mostly stationary. Just pushing the tail down then pushing the front down and the thing is beeping every time a bumper is about to hit the ground. Edit: after the first major firmware update, the beep warning SEEMS to have been fixed. The beep noise now seems to happen during motor surging which is the immediate precursor to a nosedive.
My GT has been great. Have only about 30 miles on it but it’s been all on off road trails that I’ve taken my XR on before. The GT powers up steep sections of trail that the XR just can’t. The GT also feels more stable. I had been riding mostly in high line but tried Apex to see if it would help with tail drag on steeper descents and it has been an improvement. I stay around 17mph on trails so pushback hasn’t been a problem.
I Rode my onewheel fenderless recently, the 1st time in a long time. I had geese poop flung up at me and remembered why I don't take my fender off Lol. Great Video.
Thanks for the review Jimmy! I agree with all your points as an XR owner. I hate that the tire keeps spinning after a stop, and mine did shoot backwards 7 feet after a quick stop, as well. I'm waiting to see what Future Motion says about that. Can't say I love the hard wobbly tire though. Cheers
I currently own a Pint and my favorite cruising speed is around 15 mph, but that means my lead leg is constantly getting a quad workout since I'm 210lbs and I'm at the limit of my boards speed. I'm wanting to get the GT once more miles are put on the ones already out there and the quirks can get worked out. I really just want to cruise at 20mph without my right quad being completely burned after fighting pushback for 6+ miles. Honestly, I wish a could find a low mileage XR with added battery capacity, but those are getting to be unicorns these days. Keep floating, my friend!
Man, sitting here in eastern Canada during the Nth blizzard of the season, I never felt more envious than watching Jimmy Chang riding a GT on Oahu.... I think I might have to buy plane tickets now.
Great video, Jimmy! The GT seems like a pretty decent improvement over previous models. You're right though, definitely needs a fender. I have a hypothesis that the beep is mcbeeping when the voltage sags and the battery gets low. You're spot on that no one would hear it though. Very solid solo video, would love to see more of them.
As soon as the first reviews came out, I thought oh my God Jimmy is going to love this. Thanks I was waiting for your review, I think it’s fair, I have not ridden one yet, I do believe FM will get it together, though I’m distressed to see some of the increasing proprietary actions that they’ve taken to lock in non-repairability. Time will tell, I’m sure at some future point I’ll own one, but for now, my 4209 with kush-lo front and rear IS my fave, while my 4212, gets the street miles. Enjoy!

Pretty awesome bud. I just got my pint a month ago and loving it. I use it to go from hotel to hotel transporting rental cars in Waikiki. Perfect to execute small movements without having to be shuttled around. Though I got used to the speed of the pint, and wishing to go faster but now seeing the gt, Xr, and pint x not that far off from the pint speed other than torque and battery life I guess settles it for me. I bought the perfect cruiser for work. Just like your other videos, one wheel has opened the door for electric vehicles of all types for me now. I just wished I got into it years ago. I'm enjoying the more sensitive sensor. With my Pint I had issues having to navigate to a flatter surface on trails to remount but as long as you can balance the GT will activate.

I agree with everything you said - it's a beautiful board and has opened up a ton more adventure terrain for me with this iteration, still feels ultra nimble, and looks great. Apart from some production hickups, I think FM absolutely killed it with this product.
My GT bricked itself after 16 miles and won’t turn back on. However I had an absolute blast going those miles and the support from FM has been stellar. My only real concern with the board is the aggressive pushback. I don’t agree that taking away almost all rider control over deceleration and back footpad height while at speed is altogether safer, especially while riding downhill.
I have always contemplated about the one wheel. Watched plenty if your vids. Seems as if this would be thr best buy. I'll go ahead and get it. Thanks for the review
Great Review! What psi were you rockin with on the treaded tire to go one road and off road. I’m trying see what should mine be for a perfect balance for both.
Since it has more range but also a very hard compound tire made for durability + the hard plastic footpads... Do you see foot fatigue as an issue with the stock board?
I was the first few to get the Pint. Remember the wait?!? Haha. Anyway, the first day I had the Pint I said this is the future for OW so I sold my XR before they introduced a new flagship. Well, it was a lot longer, like 2 years, than I expected but I have it now. The new flagship and it’s just like I thought. A big Pint. I’d say the GT Is more like a bigger, faster, stronger Pint than a XR.
I’d love a GT but the price, the inability to get it repaired in the UK and the inability to remove the battery to take it abroad or replace it means I’ll probably just wait until a second hand one comes along that make the spend less risky.
How was traveling with the GT? I want to travel to Thailand or Cambodia soon and I have a pint and GT I hope o can take both of it take the battery out or take them apart
Well put dude. Solid all around picture of the board and I indeed have major dislike for the pushback of it. For me takes what is otherwise a fun, solid board and constantly gets in the way. Most will indeed love it.
Judging by a recent poll in onewheel group it was 2:1 ratio of having problems with the gt vs not having any. . Also lots of UA-camrs have opposite opinion about it so far. . No thank you, personally I'll stick with XR little while
On my Pint X I have the exact same issue where the wheel spins a little bit after you take your front foot off of the foot pad. My old pint didn’t used to do that but that was one of the first things I noticed that was different between the pint and the pint X
My buddy just got his GT. And he, myself, and my other OneWheel riding friend all notice that his GT is very, very squirrely. The XR is very stable, the Pint X is less stable, but that's sort of what it is meant for. But the GT just really isn't conformable. When you go over a small bump or something, it's like his board overcorrects and you get this weird feeling like you're going to lose control. Given the price that he paid for it, I suggested he contact OneWheel to check this out, because it really doesn't feel right. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this. All three of us did a lot of comparisons between the different boards and we all noticed this problem. Could this possibly be because it was the first batch of GTs or is this how the board is supposed to feel?
Watched your other GT videos first (then this one). Yes, that BEEP is NOT LOUD ENOUGH! Way to quiet...let's be honest. With wind in your ears cruising ...no one's going to hear that. Then you've got the DOA boards, and the biggest issue the *GHOSTING* issue! Nope, this board isn't ready for prime-time yet. Future Motion has work to do before I'll be encouraging anyone to buy it. Looks like you had a good time in Hawaii. Heading there myself in less then 2 weeks! Very excited......
It should have a wheelwell in order to prevent an object from the road hitting the rider in the groin. I would be worried about that happening. Oh still watching and you mentioned a fender after getting poop on your leg.
Hey, I have a one wheel pint and I was wondering what would you recommend a GT or an XR if I can find an XR cheaper would you recommend an XR or still get the GT instead? Which one do you like better and which one is better for me someone that is short That wears a size 8 shoe
I live near the beach but don't take mine on sand. I heard it can quickly and easily mess up the bearings which would require shipping it back. Sand destroys everything eventually.
My GT arrives on Monday (3/21). I'm excited, but honestly have some trepidation because this things looks like a bigger Pint. I hate the pint with a passion; probably because I have 4k miles on the XR and am set in my ways.
Mine has ghosted twice and it was when I was barely moving and trying to stop. If my feet slipped at the same time off the board then it would do it. Now that I have more experience, stopping and dismounting is much easier and I've had no issues. It's like the board got confused when both feet evenly slipped off the side at the same time.
Great review, thx. Is that the beeper noise or just the sound of a loaded up stepper motor? My Pint makes the noise that I heard under low speed high torque conditions.
@@TheBoardGarage Even in TFL videos, all I heard is the motor noise. Do you hear the beep? It's possible that it's there but just out of my hearing range, I'm old😁
Would it be good as a city commuting option? I want something for work and fun that's an upgrade from my turboant x7 pro scooter, live near a canyon, would love to try a onewheel on some trails, just never owned one
@2,400.00 future motion is dreaming, I will stick with my XR Ghosting is a real danger, can you imagine your board running into a little baby walking with their parents on a street or just your board ghosting into the street to get run over or hitting a parked car? At that price point this should have been figured out already
Don’t waste your money as it’s no faster than the Onewheel XR. An EUC (electric unicycle) is more capable on & off road plus much faster without the cut outs & ghosting problems, plus a euc has a trolley handle which is much easier when walking round a supermarket.
Nice video and thanks for sharing as always Jimmy :) ... Question.. did you see Future Motion are back sueing again lol.. they have filed a lawsuit against JW Batteries now
It looks like at 18 there is a softer pushback. Before increasing in strength at 19.5. I wish the harder pushback was moved to a higher Speed. I feel it would be a good compromise
A+ on this video review. My XR just died showing an error 16. I'm sitting here deciding if I should spend more to get it fixed or invest in a GT. I already upgraded the battery to a JWXR.🤔 Your video definitely has me leaning towards a GT.
Exactly! How it is possible that they implemented something so stupied as a bricking device when the battery is disconnected. That is anti-consumer practices. No one does like that. They should be sued for that!
@@SmallWorldBigThings right there with you. Boosted was taken down by cheaper and better boards not too long again. Self balancing is nothing new, I’m not sure why there aren’t any viable competitors to future motion yet. I have an XR. I love it- I ride it all the time and haven’t had any issue with it, but when the battery dies it is ridiculous to me that I cannot just buys and install a new one or a bigger one as I please. (Newer xr batteries were serialized and paired to the board, but it doesn’t brick the board after unplugging it like the GT) It’s so weird telling people how much I love my board while also telling them they should look elsewhere.
@@chrisperrywv Another thing people don't realize - it/when the FM introduces new OW and discontinues GT (which will happen at some point of time) then GT will be worth NOTHING! If you can't replace battery then the board will NOT work.

Awesome review Jimmy. I’ll be back into riding my XR in about 5 months. Just waiting for my shoulder to completely heal. I can’t ride my Pint anymore because I was loaning it to a friend from work because he liked it when I let him try it. But he up and quit and never told me. I hadn’t seen him in a couple weeks and he even changed his cell number. That was last June. Clearly he isn’t giving it back because he has my number, and knows where I work and could very easily stop by and give it back or tell me what is going on…..but nothing. That’s the most expensive thing anyone has ever stolen from me.

Well put dude. Solid all around picture of the board and I indeed have major dislike for the pushback of it. For me takes what is otherwise a fun, solid board and constantly gets in the way. Most will indeed love it.
Judging by a recent poll in onewheel group it was 2:1 ratio of having problems with the gt vs not having any. .
Also lots of UA-camrs have opposite opinion about it so far. .
No thank you, personally I'll stick with XR little while
I was at your page earlier, to see if you had a review about onewheel GT. wasn't wrong when I visited it now.
Thanks for visiting!
On my Pint X I have the exact same issue where the wheel spins a little bit after you take your front foot off of the foot pad. My old pint didn’t used to do that but that was one of the first things I noticed that was different between the pint and the pint X
So hard to appreciate this device when EUCs exist.....
Why no can for unko?
Love it! I lived in Laie it was fun to see that area!! Great video
Sorry unko, but Kimo needs to ride and film!
Enjoy it! Have a musubi for me!
You nailed it again, great information here. For me the beep should sound like a train horn. ;^) the noise dive Kidd.
Yes, it's the XR 1.5
But that deck is H - A - R - D - HARD
Need a wood option on the front, a cushion on the back @OneWheel
Great video jimmy …btw I did buy the pint x and I love it…what kind of selfie stick do you use …..ron t
I noticed you came to Hawaii a few times already! And like Unko said "Kimo is Jimmy" So I going call you Kimo Chang from now on!😎🤙🏾
Do it!
It should have a wheelwell in order to prevent an object from the road hitting the rider in the groin. I would be worried about that happening. Oh still watching and you mentioned a fender after getting poop on your leg.
What brand/style gloves we using Jimmy?
Excellent presentation of your experience. Thanks for sharing.
Another amazing review Jimmy! I feel like I now know everything I could need to know about the GT when considering purchasing this board!
The BS regarding the FM locking up the device following the battery being disconnected mean this is a total no go for me.
It's a really bad look, I hope they reconsider.
Hey, I have a one wheel pint and I was wondering what would you recommend a GT or an XR if I can find an XR cheaper would you recommend an XR or still get the GT instead? Which one do you like better and which one is better for me someone that is short That wears a size 8 shoe
Transparent fender and you can see the wheel and be protected
Yes, remove the mag handle (don't need it) and make that indicator lite turn-off-able
Loved the video jimmy! Looked like you were having trouble in that trail, what kind of terrain do you the the gt is worst at?
Just about all PEVs struggle with soft sand.
@@freshlycharged and what about trails that are mostly dirt and sticks? Like a hiking trail
Geeze😵💫
@@CharlieRollin Should be fine on most hiking trails. Mostly skill dependent, especially if there are a lot of rocks and roots.
Nice video bud. Quick question since you live near the beach.... would a slick tire be ok on the beach or only the treaded
I think the GT will win you over. The range alone is amazing. Go for a long ride and tell me what you think.
Great job Jimmy I had an XR I sold it I think I may order a GP did you order one yet?
I did order one. It’s sitting in its box waiting for me to return home from this trip.
loved the honesty of your experience bro ! i agree with the fender being a good idea just from things being thrown up
Just got mine and it works great, no ghosting so far.
Can anyone explain the 90% charge and why that's better if you live at the top of a hill, for when you go down it? Thank you
Did they add simple stop as an option in the app?
Good review, your very good with people interactions jimmy.
We all get the exact same questions about our onewheels
Great review, thx. Is that the beeper noise or just the sound of a loaded up stepper motor? My Pint makes the noise that I heard under low speed high torque conditions.
The low pitched growl is the sound of the motor.
@@TheBoardGarage Even in TFL videos, all I heard is the motor noise. Do you hear the beep? It's possible that it's there but just out of my hearing range, I'm old😁
@@oldretireddude I did hear it, yes. I also just did a rock back and forth on my own board and it did beep. It's pretty low though.
It’s a very subtle beep that even the growl of the motor will obscure it.
@@freshlycharged Wow, wondering Hawaii on a GT. How cool is that?
Would it be good as a city commuting option? I want something for work and fun that's an upgrade from my turboant x7 pro scooter, live near a canyon, would love to try a onewheel on some trails, just never owned one
@2,400.00 future motion is dreaming, I will stick with my XR
Ghosting is a real danger, can you imagine your board running into a little baby walking with their parents on a street or just your board ghosting into the street to get run over or hitting a parked car? At that price point this should have been figured out already
Hi Jimmy, rooster poop on your leg? When in Hawaii remember to use a Crap & Ride fender, lol.
my most anticipated review of the gt. cheers jimmy
Thanks for the support!
Don’t waste your money as it’s no faster than the Onewheel XR. An EUC (electric unicycle) is more capable on & off road plus much faster without the cut outs & ghosting problems, plus a euc has a trolley handle which is much easier when walking round a supermarket.
But onewheels have an entirely different ride experience. And that’s the point lol
It’s like telling a snowboarder to get skis
Man Hawaii is so beautiful, thanks for the vid
Nice video and thanks for sharing as always Jimmy :) ... Question.. did you see Future Motion are back sueing again lol.. they have filed a lawsuit against JW Batteries now
I hope they fix the issues with this soon. Jimmy actually ended up sending his GT back
It looks like at 18 there is a softer pushback. Before increasing in strength at 19.5. I wish the harder pushback was moved to a higher Speed. I feel it would be a good compromise
A+ on this video review.
My XR just died showing an error 16. I'm sitting here deciding if I should spend more to get it fixed or invest in a GT.
I already upgraded the battery to a JWXR.🤔
Your video definitely has me leaning towards a GT.
great video jimmy
Hey Jimmy what kind of gloves are you wearing in this video?
Are you going to review the Floatwheel?
I picked up a used 16x for 1k, and pretty much use that for everything.
Now I'm glad I got a slick
DRM to the extreme... 3rd party repair not allowed. Brickable.
I can’t help but think it looks like it rides like a pint +,as opposed to the new version of the XR!
I just can’t wait until there is another more consumer friendly player in this form factor. Awesome device, awesome product, shady practices.
Exactly! How it is possible that they implemented something so stupied as a bricking device when the battery is disconnected. That is anti-consumer practices. No one does like that. They should be sued for that!
Agree 100%. Futuremotion needs some real competition
Shady practices... Lmao. They want safety and less lawsuits. Totally fair in my opinion.
Do you adjust the PSI in the tire at all or do you leave it at stock level?
Your nephew is such a cool little dude
sua trunk box do XR, serve para o GT ? comprei um GT e gostaria de levar ele no aviao. mas nao sei qual medida de Trunk box comprar . se puder fazer um video a respeito de viajar de aviao com o GT ia ser show.
Now you have haptic buzzzzzzzzz 😅 4:40
Awesome review Jimmy. I’ll be back into riding my XR in about 5 months. Just waiting for my shoulder to completely heal. I can’t ride my Pint anymore because I was loaning it to a friend from work because he liked it when I let him try it. But he up and quit and never told me. I hadn’t seen him in a couple weeks and he even changed his cell number. That was last June. Clearly he isn’t giving it back because he has my number, and knows where I work and could very easily stop by and give it back or tell me what is going on…..but nothing. That’s the most expensive thing anyone has ever stolen from me.
the beep happens in the wrong spot & not around pushback. the app needs an update/fix
One wheel "dont mark that the product you are shipping back to us has a large lithium battery . If they ask you say no."
3:26 checkmark for showing wind farms
Was the tire pressure adjusted?
That was a very good, honest review with lots of great info! Thanks again Jimmy! Aloha 🤙🏼
Thanks Laura! Great to hear from you! Will you be getting a GT?
@@freshlycharged we are undecided at this point but we’d love to try one out on the beach! 🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊😎
When are you going to release the 'One Wheel one dealer' T-shirt
I want one but the Price is crazy😭💀 2000 like Danm but ima get one soon and cruise around since I live in a small town
I believe the beeps are a warning for over torqueing the motor on start.
Who asked for that feature and what’s the use?
@@freshlycharged I was reading that some people were asking for that feature because they saw it on EUC's. I'm guessing it's to help prevent nose dives from over acceleration from the start. That's how I got my first nose dive from my pint lol. I do agree with you that the sound is not loud enough.
He doesn't like poop on his legs. So relatable.
