You rightly mentioned Hyundai and Kia, which both are killing it right now with value, tech, and performance, plus the old canned response of "yeah, but their reliability, and build quality sucks" just doesn't hold water anymore... I always ask those who say that if they have driven one in the past 2 or 3 model years, and the answer is always no, which means the opinion is based on rumor or hearsay...

It does still have the performance edge. But I'm not sure about steering feel. It was always numb and lacking in response and linearity to me. Speaking as an owner.

The 19s just had too many problems from terrible fuel efficiency to frequent tire replacement. The forums are full of people having issues. I have a 2018 1.5T Touring Accord and I absolutely love it! Normally 3 years in, I am starting to get bored and ready for a new ride but not with this Accord. It has all the tech features, practicality, and drivability that satisfies me. I thought about the 2.0T when I bought it and also the Hybrid but the deals on the hybrid were practically non existent and I decided the 1.5 was good enough to keep me happy (and I was right). Finally gas mileage is nothing short of phenomenal. When I am driving conservatively, I can see over 40 mpg on the highway. That makes me very happy. When I do replace this car, there is a good chance I will do so with another Accord. No sense in doing that until after 2023 when it is completely redesigned. My wishlist for that redesign: get rid of the claw like taillights and replace with a full LED set. Also let’s go full digital on the instrument cluster like the Civic and CR-V.

I'm trying to avoid putting subjective thoughts into this but I have to say that some of the specific examples that you did give - like the lack of certain display graphics and the mixed guage cluster - those are weak arguments. Like - who in my position would reject an Accord on that basis?

Even the Malibu 1.5t is quicker than the Accord 1.5t in Motor Trend handling test:
"The Malibu lapped our figure-eight course in 27.4 seconds averaging 0.63 g through the process and managed 0.84 g average during lateral acceleration tests"
      2018 Accord 1.5t only registered a lateral grip of 0.81g versus 0.78 and a figure-eight time of 27.7 seconds at 0.61g
A Malibu 1.5T can be had for US$13,000 good luck finding Japanese competition that inexpensive.

There is a reason for that.

Anybody has an accord with a 1.5 engine and over 180 k miles? Most fail at around 80k especially if they have a turbo because that's a heavy car to have such a tiny engine and it also can't handle the turbo in the little engine although the mpgs are great. A 2.0 or higher Accord is better for longevity. But that's just my opinion.

The wheels do look nice though. I prefer the 2017 accord Touring v6. A NA v6 is a must have for me regardless if the turbo is quicker. The v6 will simply last longer and the v6 is a dying breed
My choice though is the 2020 Camry XSE v6
I thought Toyota had worse tech than Honda Sofyan. Guess that’s not the case now...
