@@Trevor_Leach TLX is just the V6 with slightly higher compression, no turbo. A turbo'd V6 could easily be spitting out 350+hp (if not 400) from the factory and be one mean Type R.
@@hillstones In the older ones with the automatic, yes. But if it is paired to a manual transmission, it is fine. However, the newer automatics for the V6 Hondas/Acuras seem to be a lot better.
A L don’t forget this Honda service bulletin that affected all Accords and Civics with manual transmissions from 2003-2008 “Transmission Grinds When Shifting Into 3rd Gear, Pops Out of 3rd Gear, or is Hard to Shift Into 3rd Gear”. But yes, their manuals are generally more reliable than their automatics. Of course now you have their 1.5L turbos mixing gas and oil.
@@hillstones Yes that is always an issue with the manual transmission. Strangely, putting in GM synchromesh fluid actually fixes the issue. Yah the 1.5L mixing gas and oil is just bad news.
That 9th generation Accord has aged so well~ It is my favourite Accord in terms of looks and design and engine. This is my dream Accord, the 9th generation Accord with the V6.
@@jlhumor1565 hey man i really want an accord coupe too but my dad says since the car i discontinued its gonna be harder to find parts, what are your thoughts on that.
@@workshoptunes you got nothing to worry about. There are plenty of places on the internet to find aftermarket parts. Not to mention the autozone or O'Reilly's type places.
I bought a 2017 Accord V6 a week after the debut of the 2018 Accord 2.0T. I got it mainly because I wanted to have one of the last V6 engines in an Accord and because I liked the styling slightly more. However, I have noticed that when Honda does their mid-cycle refreshes, the models look significantly better than the first half of the generation. Come late 2020 when this model is refreshed, Honda will probably make up for the many grips people have with the car. But I always say, you gotta drive the car first before you can make a general statement. I had a 2011 Accord for the longest time and thought it was so ugly because of reflectors on the trunk and the styling, but over the course of having the car, when it was time to sell it, I actually really liked the styling. I think styling grows on people with time. It will work with this model too.
I had a 12' Accord V6 and it ever new on me. It looked totally like an old man car. Big a boaty looking. With these new accord and they still haven't grown on me.
I'm not sure when the will do an Accord refresh, but from what I'm hearing will be after 2020 sometime. And not sure what they will refresh, but will be little things here and there, but don't see anything major. They may offer a spoiler on the touring model, maybe heated rear seats on the EX models, different wheel designs, etc. I owned a previous generation accord and now a new one and they are vastly different. I absolutely love the new one. I get so excited when I just get ready to drive it. I have a Sport 2.0T model with the 10 speed. I will be doing some stereo work to it shortly, but that is really it. It is my daily driver. All accords are great cars, no matter what year.
Matt Walker I bought my 2017 accord v6 when the new ones were rolling out. I love my v6. It was one of the last 4 in the lot. The mpg can be bad if you have a heavy foot like me. But the power is awesome
You got that right. The roar from the factory intake is amazing. Those crappy fake tail pipes in the bumper they have to use now because DI motor make lots of soot are garbage.
Richard Petrus Sport, EX, EX-L and Touring, and even the Sport 2.0t trim is very well equipped, with items such as a sunroof, partial leather seats, heated seats, etc, even when optioned with the 6mt.
While that 2.0L turbo 4 is amazingly fast in the 10th gen accord, I just can't get over how amazing that J35 V6 still sounds to this day. One of the best N/A V6 engines ever made. Also the 9th generation Accord definitely looks more handsome in design, but the 10th gen isn't terrible.
Just bought a 2017 V6 Coupe with the 6-speed, to replace my beloved 1995 Accord that was my DD for 15 years and went over 250kmi. Test drove a 2.0T before the purchase. The new Accord is a nice car, but man that V6 screams. Reminds me of the 2001 M5 I have in the garage - high revving NA power and none of the high tech computer gizmo shit I don't need. It's the end of an era. Glad I got my hands on this beast with low miles - I'll put 200kmi on this one too . :)
dont run the 2.0T you will lose, I just turn the "gizmos" off - the new car is lighter, handles better, and gets off the line much better. Keep the oil changed the K20 will go 200k+ no problem
I drive a V6 Camry, personally, I don't buy a V6 for 0-60 mph runs. I buy it for refinement, low noise levels and reliability. Good job to Honda, we'll see how the Camry and the Accord compete this time.
My personal opinion as an owner of both Camry and Accord hybrids, Honda is a little bit better. Camry is boring for me, especially the interior, I think it's for older people above 50 years maybe. But it's still a great car. Interesting what you think after 3 years)
@@CHEloveg22 Yes, I think this a fair comparison as you have both kinds of cars and experience them first hand, and you offered your opinion in a different perspective.
The v6 is superior in different ways. I like the v6 because i can guarantee it is quieter, smoother and will have a longer engine life than the turbo i4.
Artchred Since you started dirty talk by calling me fool. Get this. A car is immediately depreciating asset. Thus paying-for it in full is most idiotic way. With lease only part of the car is paid. With lease smart people get to drive brand new vehicle every 24-36 months. With lease smart get latest, safest vehicle. With lease a driver enjoys life Not spending money and time for maintenance of a car. With lease smart one don’t care if vehicle is hit. Try to sell a car if you own it. I guess to each his own.
I own a 2013 Accord V6 coupe. First year they started the 9th gen. I love it! Still get compliments and enjoyment from driving it everyday. Just topped 80k miles and have had a few minors issues here and there but I have overall loved it. Definitely doesn’t look like a Honda and quality is top notch. Definitely want to drive one of the 2.0T for a comparison though. Especially before starting to upgrade mine.
I'm really liking the front end, roof line and interior but damn, the rear of the new one looks so frumpy. The old one looks so much better from behind.
Honda engineers promised way back in the Spring at the Civic Type R press events that the 2.0T Accord's performance would exceed the old V-6, so I'm not sure why anyone is surprised. Same way the new 3.5TT Raptor absolutely trounces the old 6.2L V-8 Raptor in performance. I think this will probably pull away from the new Camry XSE fairly easily as well. The Camry's 8-speed transmission is ridiculously slow to shift (I know, I've driven one) and geared solely towards fuel economy rather than performance. This new 10-speed in the Accord is probably a much better transmission which more than makes up for the lack of power compared to the Camry. Same way the new Audi A4 is only pushing about 250 HP with a turbo-4 but does 0-60 in 5.1 seconds.
Sofyan & the team, thanks a ton for sharing practical insights as always! I was waiting IMPATIENTLY for you to make one for this new Accord lol. Your presentation is thoughtfully better than seriously most of the "reviewers".
They are nice. Just traded my 07 in for a 16. And the 07 has more cup holders and storage space. Same amount of seating space and trunk space tho. As well the 07 felt a bit more nimble
I think it’s so they can “refresh” it, so the ones in 3 years will have the lights that the car meant to have. It’s good for their sales since the platform is still the same but updated features.
You said it exactly right but I think the previous generation tail lights looked like the one of the Mercedes SUV generations as well rather than the BMW. Very good point you made though.
It's the way the power comes on. New 2.0T will defiantly make more hp/torque at a lower RPM vs the J series making power up top. Weight difference as well.
That new design looks so good, it has a wow factor specially because of the front. Not too sure about the tail lights just yet. But my only gripe is the 4 cyl sound just does not compare to the nice deep grunt from the V6 and that will never change regardless of which one is faster.
Slower 0-60, worse gas mileage (I get 30 on the highway), nose heavy pushes through corners like crazy, 2.0T beats it in every performance test with possible exception of high speed roll - and if that's what you own the car for it's kind of laughable, my sixth gen SS Camaro obliterates it
Can't believe the Accord went from how it looked for 2017 to how it looks now for 2018... the 2018 Accord doesn't even look like an Accord tbh... Still loving my 2011 Accord EX-L V6 :)
+slimcpa yes that Camry XSE with the white exterior with the black roof, red leather seats & quad exhaust tips is BADASS lol... This 2018 Accord is ugly. The only thing that is a deal breaker for me with that new Camry, is the lack of memory seats. I use that feature everyday in my 2011 Accord, not available in the Camry lol
Baasil Give it time. It's an all new design so it takes time to adjust to. It's always best to see it in person, instead of through the camera lens. Many people are firing shots at it now, but let's see what happens down the road.😊
I see them everywhere now.. I used to always see the Honda civics (in 2016) byron now? I've never realized it until now that the Honda accord is everywhere..
As an owner of an old 3.0 v-6 accord, I can tell you that the old v-6 was practically indestructable. Hopefully the new 2.0 4 cylinder along with the new 10 speed wont have to many issues, but only time will tell how reliable it will prove to be. If you drive with a heavy foot the fuel mileage on the turbo is about the same as the previous 3.5 v-6.
You've said that "If you drive with a heavy foot the fuel mileage on the turbo is about the same as the previous 3.5 v-6." How sure are you on this turbo engine performance, even the car is about 200 lbs lighter?
Bought 17 touring last year and I got to say I love this car. Everything in this car is satisfies me the looks, the power, the mpg. Would not trade it for any other cars in the same segment.
Much respect for all the V6 Accord lovers. The truth is that the V6 was smoother but in my humble opinion the 4 banger with the turbo is all around better. I've had and driven both. The 2.0 turbo is more fuel efficient, although ruffer when accelerating. Some individuals have a hard time accepting that 4 cylinder out performs the V6. I've had the 2019 Accord sport 2.0 for over a year with no regrets. And as far as reliability is concerned, it's a honda and this 2.0 engine has shown to be bullet proof.
Thanks for the review. One point I want to note, the front license plate holder does not interfere with the radar. Honda actually has a note that warns only to use the one that comes with it. Like a lot of other people I was upset when I heard Honda was doing away with the V6. I wanted all of the technology but in the V6 I've come to love. The dealer I've bought my last several cars from called me and asked me to drive it for a week before giving up on it. After few days it was obvious the 2.0 was quicker, it just didn't have the kick in the back the V6 had. What really convinced me to really consider buying it was how smoothly the 10 speed transmission accelerated. After about three days I drove it in sport mode and quickly forgot about the V6. I've had the 2.0T Touring for a couple of weeks so far and I don't have any regrets.
+Unreal Sure, because we all go around driving at top speed all the time. Who cares! Quick acceleration and sporty handling are what make driving fun. Top speed is totally irrelevant in most situations, even on the track, because you generally won't have enough straight tarmac to reach it.
For everyone claiming the 2.0l turbo is better...have you ever driven a v6 camry or accord? I would never take a turbo 4 over a v6 in a family type sedan. you can't beat the feel and no lag torque.
I have driven a V6 Camry & Accord, but I own a 2.0T Fusion. For me, the bottom line is the Fusion was the best bang for my buck as no one else was going to sell me 240hp with NAV for $22,500 + TTL in 2016. Fusion mpg however is below EPA, but for the money I saved over a Camcord I have plenty left to buy lotsa gas!
J35 engine isn't a torque monster and actually feels a little sluggish off the line with the auto. The old gen Camry V6 engine had better low end torque (not sure how the new one is). I'm pretty sure the 2.0t is tuned to provide enhanced low end torque response than the Type R does, and even the Type R isn't too bad in this regard.
I kind of understand why some people love not having turbo lag, but "no lag torque" doesn't say much when the J35 doesn't make much torque down low in the first place.
manufacturers seem to be making excuses so they can sell you those expensive automatics and cvt transmissions. They're fine under warranty but let's see the cash tally for 2nd and 3rd owners
I always hate this saying of "selling out". They usually have 1 or 2 in the lot so of course it's gonna sell out compared to the 20 LX EX EX-L and Touring trims
@@jefflarson3461 my dad bought a '13 2nd gen fit with 80,000 miles on it for $9000, only basic up-keep maintenance gone into it. He's at 120,000 miles now, thing's still running fine, the CVT holds up the same as it did when he bought it four years ago. No foreseeable major issues with it, it's got that Honda build quality for sure
I’m fairly sure it was A: stocked in lower quantities than automatic & sedan models B: manufactured in lower quantities than automatic & sedan models Obviously it’s got a higher chance of selling out when the number of units is lower. 🙄
Better is relative though, some people don't necessarily buy the last V6 model because they "think" it has more power, they buy it because it looks better. If you have to look at it every single day for at least the next 5 years, which most people will have their car for, then design is definitely a very strong point for purchasing a vehicle. I for one, bought the '16 Honda Accord, because I absolutely hate, and yes I repeat HATE the tablet stick on screen design on the dashboard and the new exterior overhaul they did. I am overly happy with my 2016, I don't give a rats ass that the 2 liter turbo pulls ahead a car length faster on an amateur drag race. If I wanted real power I'll add a supercharger to the V6 and piss all over that 2 liter turbo. And still pay less than a new Accord compared to what I paid for my barely used "new" car + supercharger install and professional mapping. It's all about personal taste. Looking at the new Honda Accord design, I gotta be honest, in 5 years, when I'll shop for a new car, the Hyundai Sonata might be my next victim. Have you seen that new design they are releasing this year? That just makes me moist.
More power in smaller motors by forced induction is never the better solution, especially if you're talking in terms of reliability. Also change isn't always good. The car has only been out for a year. Let's see how many beatdowns those 1.5t and 2.0t can take. 4 cyl n/a and v6 n/a are proven engines
No replacement for displacement. A turbo just adds extra heat and pressure and WILL wear that 4-banger out. The V6 will have an easy life and last much longer.
If you're drag racing Accords on the street, you're an immature idiot. Fact. The main issues for intelligent adults are smoothness, reliability and mileage. If I'm dropping $35k for a sedan, it better be as smooth as an Olympic golf medalist skating on a pool of frozen butter.
I still perfer the V6. Smoother sounding engine. Its not hissing and sounding like a vaccum cleaner while its in park or being pushed moderately.Reliability is king for the V6. NO TURBOS to deal with in the long haul and other gizmos to fail. It sounds better. No fake exhaust being pumped into the cabin. Its a win win. Plus it looks better than the 2018 HANDS DOWN! Id kick that turtlemobile to the trash bin. Its simply ugly AF! As far as sensors go. That was a dumb thing on part of honda to put that sensor in the middle down there. The hell is your license plate gonna go?? Over the sensor??? Honda needs to scrap it and do a total makeover. The spirior looks way better. Thats the body they should have used. Will Honda ever learn??? No one knows.
2017 was the last production year. I'll be picking one up in a few weeks - but I can see myself trading in for a '19 or '20 2.0T Sedan, or just buying the base model for practicality. Love the front styling personally, not a huge fan of the rear but I can live with it as-is and it'll probably be modified.
Okay, confession time: I have owned the beloved Honda V6 engine in both Honda and Acura vehicles since 2002. When I heard they were killing the V6 for the '18 year model, I wasn't happy. I love that V6 smoothness and don't believe a turbo 4 could ever match that. After watching this video and seeing the new car smoke the V6, I'm suddenly having second thoughts. I will still lament the loss of that great V6 engine but I will at least give the new engine a chance. As someone who hates drastic changes, I've lived long enough to know that sometimes change isn't just necessary but occasionally good. This might be one of those times when I'll have to eat my old words when I proclaimed that I would never buy another 4 cylinder car. I admit it......I'm impressed.
We couldn't have said it better ourselves! Change is never easy but most of the times, its worth it. Give the new 2.0T a chance, it seriously impressed us and you'll see the full extent of that in our full review going live in 7 hours.
@@theredline So 3 years later, I just sold my '16 TLX V6 Advance and purchased a '20 Accord Touring 2.0T. I've only had my Accord for 2 weeks and man am I impressed! Honda has outdone themselves. This car is amazing! The engine is a gem. It pulls hard and puts the power down. So far, I have no regrets. The sound system isn't as good as the one in my Acura and the road noise isn't quite as hushed but those minor quibbles aside, this car is fantastic. What impresses me the most is that the car is so much fun to drive, has so many good features and just oozes quality for such a tremendous value. The Accord 2.0T is one hot ride!
Just based on sheer outward aesthetics, I think the new accord is a winner. My only problem there is that the the taillights look outdated and could have been designed to mirror the shape and style of the headlights. To me the Camry is bordering on design overkill, kind of like the Lexus range in the last few years
The camry driver would be seeing accord taillights. Audi a4 heavier with same exact hp and tourqe 0-60 5.3 seconds. Plus the accord is geared more aggressive with the 10 speed.
I own a Honda V6 Accord, and Acura V6 TLX, and a Civic. I drove the new turbo 4 with a 10 speed for 120 miles in a brand new RDX. There is no comparison. The V6 is SMOOTH and power delivery is NOW. The I4 would have been fine if I never drove the V6. Honda is making a HUGE MISTAKE. You spoke of acceleration. I don't care about fractions of a second, but, do care about smooth driveability and reduced complexity. I understand there are issues with blowby contaminating oil on I4. I will be looking to Toyota for my next V6. Thanks Honda.
I like the 2017 better.... But it’s grown on me. I’m going to miss the coupe though. Not everyone wants the sedan and I get upset when people just get rid of something thinking everyone liked it. Not everyone has a big family and neither am I planning to have one for a long time. But the old one looks way way better.
They do not care ablut your opinion on the matter. They care about profits, therefore they look at numbers. And accord coupe do not sell as much as they should to make a big profit on it.
Tozik ummm hun... I know that.... I’m just saying not everyone likes big SUVs. And not everyone wants to be a big happy family. Not looking To argue because you wasted a whole comment telling me something I already know. At the end of the day it’s all about profits. This is what a comment section is for. Your opinion and your commentary.....
My daily is a 1500$ 2002 honda accord ex v6 coupe with 261800 miles, and I gotta say I love it. I've had it for 2 months now and it's pretty damn quick and reliable for a 17 year old car
Makes Sense and that 2-3 length lead is nearly spot on. The new version is 175lbs lighter overall and has 21ft/lbs more Torque starting way way earlier than the previous gen. It traps faster by 3mph so the transmission is definitely keeping it in it's power band very well. The older slush box just can't keep the engine in it's sweet spot. Old V6 Standing ¼-mile: 14.4 sec @ 99 mph Power: 278 hp @ 6200 rpm Torque: 252 lb-ft @ 4900 rpm Curb weight: 3593 lb vs 2.0T Standing ¼-mile: 14.1 sec @ 102 mph Power: 252 hp @ 6500 rpm Torque: 273 lb-ft @ 1500 rpm Curb weight: 3419 lb
I can lip read and you said 26-27 city and 34 highway for MPGs. That is fucking amazing. Bye bye old crappy V6 with crappy VCM, hello 2.0T. Technology is amazing.
yea but if your running a turbo you have to buy the expensive gas to keep up with what its tested at to get those results but end up spending more money on gas
DrWeeWe what most people are forgetting about is the transmission. Yes the new one has more torque and yes the old one has more hp. So wouldn't it make sense that the 2.0 would take it off the line but the V6 would catch up in the end. It's the transmission. The transmission is tuned so when launching it is at its most ideal RPM for a launch, then as it picks up more speed it stays within its highest boost to keep the car going. This is the biggest reason why a lot of autos/CVTs are faster than manuals now. Unlike a manual where u just take every gear to redline then shift, the autos and cvts instead just keep it in its powerband.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Unfortunately, those that think the 2018 accord is ugly, are wrong. The 2013 through 2017 accord is nice, but the interior is a little underwhelming. I do not like the dual screen set up for the infotainment center. The infotainment system on the 2018 however is very nice and very user-friendly. My points go towards the 2018 accord. Edit: I just recently purchased a new 2018 Accord Sport 2.0T and I have to say that I love it worlds better than my 2013 that I traded in for it. Not having a CVT and having a 10 speed auto, makes the overall driving experience so much better.
Good for you but I'll hand on to 2015 Accord Sport CVT. I like the CVT and no way feels the gears hunting back and forth during going up an incline or descending on hilly roads. Great MPG too.
V6 engines will always be my favorite. I have a 200s with the 3.6, compared to the 2.4 it's way better. I wish companies would stop depleting the v6 engines for these wack ass four cylinders
"Wack ass four cylinders"? We don't necessarily need higher capacity engines to produce significant amount of usable power. It's good that companies invest in R&D to find ways to pump up the power rather than just trying to increase the cylinder count. Look for Civic Type R engine reviews.
The public wants performance with good fuel economy and the government has all these co2 regulations its where we’re headed. They have to make all of these 4 cylinders so they can still make some performance cars. They have a corporate average fuel economy or cafe score. If they don’t meet it they pay huge fine
Dog.. companies cater to market. Market demands a 2.0, is more than enough for 90% of city people. Nobody wants a 6 cuz of gas prices so 2.0T is the natural solution to the market that doesnt revolve around you
So i owned a 2015 6cyl EXL Automatic Tran. I was very unhappy to hear the 6 was gone. I test drove the 2.0 Turbo and was very impressed. I have now owned a 2.0 T Touring for almost 3 months now. I can say without a doubt the 2.0 will smoke the 6cyl with the automatic tran. I am not yet beating the MPG driving in eco mode most of the time but i barley have 3000 miles and i noticed on my 2015 MPG improved at around 5K miles.
Wifey has akways been an advocate for Honda Accords...she loves her 2018 sport accord. Nicely done and sleek without all the extra garb that camry is throwing around.
Erik S Honda hasn’t changed the 3.5 in 10 years they could of easily upgraded it to over 300hp na and make it a 3.7 or 3.8 liter it’s too bad but it’s a tried true and proven engine which is why I went v6. Gonna turbo it eventually. The coupe barely is faster it’s advantage is weighing 150-200 lbs less that’s it.
I test drove a 2018 Sport 2.0T (auto, no manual available yet) - I can tell you that it's a nice step up from the previous gen Sport trim but NO WAY IN HELL should anyone pay $32,000 for an LX Accord with a leather wheel! Absurdly expensive; it's cheaper to get EX-L and you can get the Touring for just few grand more. The Sport 1.5T is $26K but the 2.0T upgrade is a whooping $5K!!! Go to hell Honda, for getting rid of the V6, getting rid of the coupe AND for price gouging!
The 2.0T sport is based on the EX you get the engine upgrade moon roof keyless entry heated seats and remote start so I don't think the price difference is baf
Your comment doesn't make any sense. turbocharged engines are very expensive to research and develop. $5,000 for an engine upgrade is a steal, you Americans are very spoiled when it comes to cars, the 2.0T upgrade in my country would cost you $20,000.
And just because your daddy's Accord was $10,000 when you were born doesn't mean it's wrong for the manufacturer to charge you $35,000 for a luxury car that would rival an S-class from just 10 years ago.
I was gonna go for the 2018 camry xse but the 2018 accord sport has everything I want. Full led headlights and tailights, sunroof, paddle shifter and best of all its cheaper then the xse
Just got the new 2.0 Touring for my daily. Love it. Lighter, faster, smoother, and newer tech. Sport mode is very aggressive vs Eco. Forget the naysayers and just get one.
As an owner of a 2015 V6 Accord, it is much better looking than the 2018, especially those tail lights. The 2.0 liter turbo may be faster by a few tenths of a second, but I doubt you can get 300,000 miles out of these new turbos like you would be able to out of the V6.
The altima and the camry are the only ones left with the v6 i hope they dont change that .. i do agree 4cyl turbo engines get good gas mileage and a decent performance but nothing matches the sound of a v6 and the feel of it 👌🏻
swr Nismo Yeah VQ’s are great, but how’s isn’t Nissan infamously known for their bad CVT? I always believed Nissan was a part of the reason why CVT’s were given a bad rep.
I got the 18 accord in feb, going past 6 months ownership and I can proudly say Its way better then the years before, faster quicker and more gas efficient.. Loving it.
I love my 2014 Accord. Who cares if it's a second slower, still sounds better than any 2.0 turbo. Maintenance is key to making any engine or transmission last. And not being dumb and beating up your car.
Ultimately the torque advantage in the 2.0T will eventually begin walking away from the beloved J35 SOHC. Sad to see them depart the Accord lineup, but Technology and competition forces them into turbo technology, meaning more mainstream and economical. I happen to actually like the 2018 Accord Sport. Honda has done an excellent job in the interior of this Accord. Even down to the headrests and the exact fit of plastics and materials. I’m interested to see what the base LX model or LX-P will look like. I’m hoping better looking wheels standard. My only question to you is, will they all come standard with the gorgeous LED Headlights? Anyways, I can appreciate your work very much and you are extremely talented. You’re specs and videos are always spot on and also exactly what I would review about in a car. Keep up the excellent work. Cheers.
Tom Dolgin Honda says all trims of the 2018 Accord will come with LED headlights as standard. They didn’t have an LX at the event for us to see but they will come with 17” alloy wheels. Our full Redline review will go live tonight at 12:01 EST.
No way. I have a 2016 Accord with a V6 and I eat 2.0's off the line. I'm at least 2-3 car lengths ahead in 100 yards easy. It's obvious, watching the video, that you guys really didn't push them hard - especially with the V6.
Jesus Diaz I got mine for 8 months already but with the 10 speed. The 2.0t runs really smooth tho. The 10 speeds run way better after the first 10000 miles. Just not sure about 5 years. I dont think this engine can be reliable as the old v6
Trung Nguyen Q K20 from the type R is built for more power so doing proper maintenance on the engine should yield a lot of miles:) the new si engine, however... lots of people are blowing them up not making that much power so i could imagine those to last a lot less.
Pitting the 6MTs against each other would level the playing field for these drag race tests. Those 4 extra gears are helping the 2.0T more than reviews are letting on.
10 speed auto and 200lbs weight reduction likely explains the difference. I still prefer the sound and throttle response of the NA V6.
Honda just needs a Type R version of the Accord with a V6 turbo:) I would buy it in 2 seconds!
I think what you're looking at is an Acura nsx already!
Acc0rd79 that’s a TLX my guy
@@Trevor_Leach TLX is just the V6 with slightly higher compression, no turbo. A turbo'd V6 could easily be spitting out 350+hp (if not 400) from the factory and be one mean Type R.
Supercharger would be good too
We'll see how awesome you think it is when you find out how expensive it is to replace a busted turbocharger
They can only take my VTEC V6 when they pry it from my cold, dead hands!

Or when your transmission fails...since Honda is notorious for transmission failures with their V6 engines.
I like my old V6 coupe. 326,000 miles, still going strong.
That makes me happy to hear since I will be getting a used 2017 touring. After researching for the last 5 months I have settled on this car.
All power 💪
@@jlhumor1565 hey man i really want an accord coupe too but my dad says since the car i discontinued its gonna be harder to find parts, what are your thoughts on that.
Please advice, can I buy a used 2009 3.5 v6 accord ? 40,000 kilometres ran till now.
If you felt the 2011 Accord was so ugly, why did you buy it?
@@expsterm1 Excellent question! We are waiting for the answer! Why did you buy it?
Matt Walker I bought my 2017 accord v6 when the new ones were rolling out. I love my v6. It was one of the last 4 in the lot. The mpg can be bad if you have a heavy foot like me. But the power is awesome
The v6 sounds a million times better... I dont care what any of yall say✌️
You got that right. The roar from the factory intake is amazing. Those crappy fake tail pipes in the bumper they have to use now because DI motor make lots of soot are garbage.

I had the this accord turbo and is not that fast I sold it and got the 2017 by so much more responsive and no turbo lag and the car looks alot nicer
This is crazy, the old accord V6s are some of the quickest non-sporty sedans out there. The new 4 seems really impressive.
I am wondering what trim level will the 2.0T going to be.
Sport and Above only
Richard Petrus Sport, EX, EX-L and Touring, and even the Sport 2.0t trim is very well equipped, with items such as a sunroof, partial leather seats, heated seats, etc, even when optioned with the 6mt.
“Non-sporty?”
Okudzeto Ackah The Accord V6 isn't a sports sedan like a BMW or Audi. But they are still fast af (kinda like the Nissan Maxima)
Getting the touring off sound alone. Heard one of em at my job yesterday and man it sounded so good
Just bought a 2017 V6 Coupe with the 6-speed, to replace my beloved 1995 Accord that was my DD for 15 years and went over 250kmi.

New Camaro SS for n/a goodness
That 6 cylinder with turbo would do the trick :D
With Style If they added DI to the V6 and 2 more gears that would definitely close the gap...
With Style, Honda is waaaay too conservative for that. Honda refuses to go outside of their element... shame really!
With Style Yeah but the mpg would suck
would you pay 8 grand more? i doubt so...
In the real world... NOBODY would by it. Shit, NOBODY buys the V6 coupe as is now -- hence the cancellation.
The v6 is superior in different ways. I like the v6 because i can guarantee it is quieter, smoother and will have a longer engine life than the turbo i4.

What about 19 year old 😎
Honda engineers promised way back in the Spring at the Civic Type R press events that the 2.0T Accord's performance would exceed the old V-6, so I'm not sure why anyone is surprised.
I bought the same V6 Accord new in 2017. It's been 4 years and 220,000km. Nothing went wrong. Amazing car. Going to keep it indefinitely
I've had cars with both a V6 and a 4 cyl Turbo. They do indeed charge more to do work on the turbo and the V6's tend to be more reliable.
My 07 accord V6 is perfect, plenty of room and fast as hell
They are nice. Just traded my 07 in for a 16. And the 07 has more cup holders and storage space. Same amount of seating space and trunk space tho. As well the 07 felt a bit more nimble
JustJay 0312 hahah yeah the 2007 is quick. i raced one in my passat 1.8tsi and i did win but at the end it was pretty close
Why would they do that to the tail lights. They went from looking similar to bmw to Fisher Price toy lights
Moresco24 OMG YESSS
I think it’s so they can “refresh” it, so the ones in 3 years will have the lights that the car meant to have. It’s good for their sales since the platform is still the same but updated features.
You said it exactly right but I think the previous generation tail lights looked like the one of the Mercedes SUV generations as well rather than the BMW. Very good point you made though.
Yea at night the old accord looks so much like a bmw from behind lmao

That V6 definitely sounds better than the new 2.0T.
However, the previous gen Accord V6 was a quick car... and the new 2018 2.0T beats it... wow.
That 2.0t has to be quick lol
That 2.0T also has 4 extra gears and weighs less
The V6 just feels so smooth and natural, just wish it had the 10 speed and kept as an option!
You can also get the 2.0l turbo with a manual transmission!

Baasil F. Yeah they need to add that asap. It's just me so I'm ok. No reason they don't have it. I got black on red interior.

You've said that "If you drive with a heavy foot the fuel mileage on the turbo is about the same as the previous 3.5 v-6."
How sure are you on this turbo engine performance, even the car is about 200 lbs lighter?
Bought 17 touring last year and I got to say I love this car. Everything in this car is satisfies me the looks, the power, the mpg. Would not trade it for any other cars in the same segment.
J35 for me
Thanks for this comparison! I was skeptical all first but it seems like they did a good job on this turbo.
Looks like Ill be able to get a great deal on a 2017 Accord...Love that silky smooth V6....No V6? No sale
As the saying goes, horsepower sells cars, but torque wins races. This is why I will always favor torque over hp.
D LG or maybe the 180 pounds less
Of course, weight matters, that goes without saying, but all else being equal, hp will never be as important as torque when it comes to performance.
D LG hp has better top speed
+Unreal Sure, because we all go around driving at top speed all the time. Who cares! Quick acceleration and sporty handling are what make driving fun. Top speed is totally irrelevant in most situations, even on the track, because you generally won't have enough straight tarmac to reach it.

chrisiden that is messed up loved the coupe and v6 the new one is ugly the front
I suppose I should have said a smooth, progressive powerband with a healthy dose of midrange torque that 60 degree V6's are known for.

People hate change. Even it's something better. Just look at the comments.
bighosre10 Well most of the people in the world are stupid unfortunately
Snake Plissken thank you. I have a 16 V6 as well. Its on my channel. Love it. 2018 is a step backward in terms of technology and style wise.

2 years later I'm here still trying to figure out how is the new Accord shorter than the old one... 🤔
Just based on sheer outward aesthetics, I think the new accord is a winner. My only problem there is that the the taillights look outdated and could have been designed to mirror the shape and style of the headlights. To me the Camry is bordering on design overkill, kind of like the Lexus range in the last few years
also, camry has a massive discrepancy within its tiers, with the lower tiers looking really old while the higher tiers being better.
I wanna see a drag run with the 18 Camry

Not looking To argue because you wasted a whole comment telling me something I already know. At the end of the day it’s all about profits. This is what a comment section is for. Your opinion and your commentary.....
TJ Houston, you must be gay for real, otherwise that hun addition is as weird as fuck.
No 2.0T can replace the legendary J Series
ThatGearHead YOU AINT LYING
It’s a K20 engine though so it is just as legendary as the old V6 though. I’m not a fan of 4 cylinder engines but the K20 is an exception.
ThatGearHead Amen! Couldnt have said it better
But it can and it did. Believe me, I have a J37 TL and I'd rather have the 2.0t.
I have a 14 TL-SHAWD as well. Rather keep it! Put a turbo on the older accord then it's game over
My daily is a 1500$ 2002 honda accord ex v6 coupe with 261800 miles, and I gotta say I love it.
Old V6
Standing ¼-mile: 14.4 sec @ 99 mph
Power: 278 hp @ 6200 rpm
Torque: 252 lb-ft @ 4900 rpm
Curb weight: 3593 lb
vs
2.0T
Standing ¼-mile: 14.1 sec @ 102 mph
Power: 252 hp @ 6500 rpm
Torque: 273 lb-ft @ 1500 rpm
Curb weight: 3419 lb
I can lip read and you said 26-27 city and 34 highway for MPGs. That is fucking amazing. Bye bye old crappy V6 with crappy VCM, hello 2.0T. Technology is amazing.
Lol at all the people who didn’t believe me that the 2.0T is much quicker. It’s that torque and better gas!
yea but if your running a turbo you have to buy the expensive gas to keep up with what its tested at to get those results but end up spending more money on gas
DrWeeWe thats not why the old one is better. The 2.0T might have more torque, but in a long straight, horsepower overpowers torque
The V6 will last longer than the turbo itself. I have a 2016 Touring Coupe and 0-60 is 5.7 sec. So the new 2.0 Turbo does that sprint quicker?
RockGod333 not sure how someone’s opinion of how a car looks could be wrong. Please explain.
Lupton Pittman lol he contradicted himself in the same sentence.
“Everyone is entitled to their opinion” yet, “they are wrong” lol
Funny how 2 years ago I hated the new accord design. Now I actually got a 2020 accord sport 2.0T and I love it
V6 engines will always be my favorite. I have a 200s with the 3.6, compared to the 2.4 it's way better. I wish companies would stop depleting the v6 engines for these wack ass four cylinders
Rashid Ali Akbar well you can't compare a 4 cyl with no turbo lol and way less hp and tq
Nobody wants a 6 cuz of gas prices so 2.0T is the natural solution to the market that doesnt revolve around you
The new 2.0Turbo is faster...even if it's a 4 Cylinder....get over it😎
The exhaustion sound of 3.5 V6 is absolutely better than turbo engine that can' t do. I love it.
The v6 coupé will do the job pretty well
So i owned a 2015 6cyl EXL Automatic Tran.
Will the 4 Cylinder Turbo last as long as a naturally aspirated V6? I have seen differing opinions on that question.
Both will go way past 200k miles. How long it lasts depends how well you take care of it.
I'd say the N/A engine will last longer than a turbo engine.
less weight, extra gears, more torque... kudos to the honda engineers.
still prefer the v6 the turbo has gas getting into oil issues v6 sounds much better too.
The direct injection in New one has issues.
the 2017 V6 coupe is faster than both
Naturally aspirated engines will always outlast turbo charged engines. This was a fat loss in Honda’s usually on the point legacy
VanGogh34
Couldn't have said it better.
The 2.0T sport is based on the EX you get the engine upgrade moon roof keyless entry heated seats and remote start so I don't think the price difference is baf
The Coupe Was Struggling. It Had To Be Killed
The answer to the question proposed by this video (we've had our new 2.0T Touring a montb) is an unqualified YES. What a phenomenal drivetrain.
Acceleration is less important to me than reliability. Is the naturally aspirated v6 more reliable than a turbo 4?
Yep
I was gonna go for the 2018 camry xse but the 2018 accord sport has everything I want. Full led headlights and tailights, sunroof, paddle shifter and best of all its cheaper then the xse
xxFallenKnight how much if the sport? Haven't seen pricing?
xxFallenKnight You’ll know the pricing soon enough! Our full review will go live at midnight this evening :)
V6 STYLING IS WAY BETTER
I had both of these car and just recently sold my 2018 accord and bought the 2017 accord v6 just much nicer looking and that v6 is amazing
Just went on a 200 mile trip including rush hour on DC Beltway. 37.2 mpg with the V6 going 70-75 mph once outside of 495.
Can't argue with that!
The altima and the camry are the only ones left with the v6 i hope they dont change that .. i do agree 4cyl turbo engines get good gas mileage and a decent performance but nothing matches the sound of a v6 and the feel of it 👌🏻
Adithya Kombathula the Altima engine is amazing. That VQ35 is very reliable and sounds way better than the others
swr Nismo Yeah VQ’s are great, but how’s isn’t Nissan infamously known for their bad CVT? I always believed Nissan was a part of the reason why CVT’s were given a bad rep.
Zuby A I wouldn't know. I have a 2009 Altima but with a 6 speed manual transmission. It's been very reliable
Zuby A i have a 2014 altima with a v6 , love everything about it except the cvt , its reliable and all but u kinda miss the gear shifts ..
swr Nismo
there's no such thing as a cvt manual. cvts are only automatic. you'll have no worries with your trans.
@6:55 i thought you closed the road down?
I got the 18 accord in feb, going past 6 months ownership and I can proudly say Its way better then the years before, faster quicker and more gas efficient.. Loving it.
2013-2015 Accord Sport styling with that 2.0T 6-Speed will be the dream car for me.
Engine swap 🤔
@@robc7429 too much $ for the work. Maybe down the later years but the technology on Honda engines will be more advanced by then.
True, they'll have warp drives and shit 😂
@@robc7429 lol
Not a fan of that new rear end older one nicer
Ruben M can't believe they went backwards. Rear is so ugly.
2013-2015 front looks good, 2016-2017 back looks good, 2018 front and back are ugly...
Car is awesome . front to back . It's not your grampa's Accord anymore
Dang that 2.0T is fast! And the old V6 was not slow either.
2018 looks like a Malibu. The older gen was distinctive. This new one is a weird mish mash
The turbo has more torque so will get off the line quicker. However the NA engine will last longer.
K
Yes and the v6 has more power so it will gain back the turbo car
Highway 6-6 wins. From dig 2.0T wins
No way. I have a 2016 Accord with a V6 and I eat 2.0's off the line. I'm at least 2-3 car lengths ahead in 100 yards easy. It's obvious, watching the video, that you guys really didn't push them hard - especially with the V6.
Honda accord 2.0t is better than the 9th gen v6. The stock 10 speed is a way better transmission puts the power down efficiently
i have a v6 too same year and we cant beat a 2.0 if were stock
@@112188Francisco I had a manual Accord V6 9th gen its not a better car than the 10th gen 2.0t
Just bought a 2019 2.0t sport with the 6speed manual and i must say it gets up and goes
What do you think after 5 months
The turbos have dilution problem....future review would be interesting
Jesus Diaz I got mine for 8 months already but with the 10 speed. The 2.0t runs really smooth tho. The 10 speeds run way better after the first 10000 miles. Just not sure about 5 years. I dont think this engine can be reliable as the old v6
J35 with the 6 speed. Lick my dust :)
Trung Nguyen Q K20 from the type R is built for more power so doing proper maintenance on the engine should yield a lot of miles:) the new si engine, however... lots of people are blowing them up not making that much power so i could imagine those to last a lot less.
Am i the only one that noticed that the wheel revolutions are PERFECTLY in sync with the gear shifts in the 2017? Thats kindof cool (7:00)
Pitting the 6MTs against each other would level the playing field for these drag race tests. Those 4 extra gears are helping the 2.0T more than reviews are letting on.
