I know this may not fit the narrative of this song...but I'm a divorced father raising a 7 yr old son and a 5 yr old girl alone. I didn't become a father until I was 38. I just pray I raise them right and hope God allows me to live to see it through.

It will fit the narrative as your journey continues… and it might even a little right now because live isn’t far. So just continue to better yourself for your kids and do the best you can. Refer to this song as needed as a reminder. Hang in there.

My mother was the eldest of 7 children and pretty much raised her siblings as both my grandparents worked very long hours. She was married at 19 and had all three of us boys by the time she was 24. She went to work when my younger brother hit kindergarten. Her life was always about taking care of those she loved. Finally, after we were all out of the house she started attending college taking night classes. Then this song came out and it became her BANNER song! Unfortunately, she passed in the spring of 1992 at the age of 51 :-( Still, this song reminds me of her strength and her love and commitment to her family. She worked tirelessly to pass those traits on to us three boys.

The became my mother's favorite song and her anthem. She was married at 19, had my brother at 20, me at 21, and my other brother at 23. When my youngest brother went to Kindergarten she started working for the phone company. After we all graduated from high school she starting taking college classes studying to be a counselor for abused women. Unfortunately, in April 1992 she passed away from cancerous brain tumors three weeks after her diagnosis at the age of 51. Although it is still the single most devastating event of my life. Hearing this song always brings a smile to my face and peace in my heart knowing how much this song resonated with her. Thank you Reba for this song that meant so much to my mother and, consequently, me. God Bless!

Quitting doing drugs, becoming a wife and mother, working at a fast food restaurant because it has a flexible schedule I can bend around my family's lifestyle may seem the opposite of this song but it's been my inspiration whenever I think life is passing me by.

I love how, after she gets upset at her daughter, she makes amends with her with a bedtime story so they don't "go to bed angry".
And her husband takes care of drying the paper, presumably without even telling her, so this can happen, supporting her, reminding her he loves her, understanding how stressful this is for her and being patient. And how he proudly proclaims "that's my wife" when she graduates.
And she shows she hasn't forgotten him when she cuddles and caresses him when she comes to bed late. That she hasn't forgotten her son when she picks him up at the park with a hug. That she hasn't forgotten her daughter when she asks how she's feeling.
This is so much shorter than so many movies, yet it shows a deeply loving family so much better than so many videos hundreds of times its length...

The comment between her & her professor where he says " just next time, try not to get so many stains on it," and she responded with "I learned more from the stains than the paper" was so powerful. My wife and I met in college. She had to drop out of college (due to financial problems) the year I graduated. I went to grad school while she got a job as a secretary. Even though it put us into debt, I was damned if I was going to have her wondering what might have been, so she went back to school in my 3rd year of grad school. We both graduated at the same time, her with a B.S., I with an M.S. Now, she's the one with the full time job and I'm the one with the "extra job" and I wouldn't have it any other way.
This song speaks to me, and the fact that we wouldn't let her always wonder what was "out there."

Just a little set back but I did go back and ended up with that diploma and it was well worth it! Once you have that degree there really is nothing that can hold you back! Truly love this song. Sang it at my first talent show when I was around 12 maybe. I 'understood' the lyrics at the time because I watched my mother sacrifice so much working so hard alongside my dad on our families farm. She was and is selfless. Now looking back and listening to this song today...It takes on a WHOLE new meaning for me and my life. All these hopes and dreams and yes...I've had many walk on the moon moments and I live my life to love my Littles but...I would love to be truly happy in the 'life out there' living my life on purpose and in a job I love. Do something for me. Odd that I watched this today because I am transitioning over the next 60 says to make that move to living a better life for ME and my family. Massive action for success.

I listen to this song a lot lately.... It wasn't long after I graduated High School that I gave birth to my princess who is now 6. In the beginning it was rough and I knew I had to make changes. I tried to get by many ways.. I worked as a waitress... I waitressed and picked up a second job... Four years later I wanted more for her and I. I got a management job at a fast food restaurant and started going to college. Now I am working a 40 hour week job that I consider a "big girl job". By that I mean Monday - Friday 8-5 PTO ect.. I am still attending college Online and found out I was pregnant about a week ago.. When I'm feeling overwhelmed I listen to this song and it encourages me to keep on pluggin' along.. There is life out there! My hope is to inspire my children to reach for the stars, set goals, and be happy. I would never change the way my life has panned out but I will not settle either. :-)

I know a single Mom with two kids who is working as a Manager of a fast food restaurant because she wants to role model to her children that ANY job is a worthy job and that the children are her main priority, not how other people view her job.

Just found this song. This was found at the exact time I really needed this song. I am a student in college full time and I work a part time job. I have always done the same things and have always thought about it if I am doing the right thing in going for my degree in applied science with a major in business. Ive wondered what else was out there instead of me getting my life together. I now know. I have a 4.0 GPA in college when I have never had a 4.0 in high school or college in my past. I am so proud of myself and what I have accomplished. I am finally changing my life around for the better proving myself to people who have told me that I will never succeed. I am better. Those people who have told me I will never succeed in life are being proved wrong. I am making a life for myself and I am succeeding. To those who feel like they are lost and having people tell you that you will never succeed, don't listen to them. You will succeed and you will do this. YOU CAN DO IT!!!! I have faith in you. It may be hard at first, but you will do it. Stay strong and remain positive!!!! I have total faith in you!!!!

Gah, this song gets more relatable the older I get. Like I love my life, but I feel like "what if there's all these big exciting things I'm not doing and I'm missing out gah what is my life?!"
Also, nontraditional students for the win! (I am a tutor at my university, and I am here to tell you no one works as hard as nontraditional students do!)

@@pinkpigcutie9600 In the clips it uses for the video, yes. If you've seen the entire movie it may be different. From the clips though he supports her going back to college, he stops her from saying anything further to the kids she might later regret, and he takes all that time to get her paper presentable.

Not really, she did the hard work... he was the support. I noticed that in the beginning of the video he called HER so she could come home and take care of the sick daughter. Why couldn't he do it?

They both are but she is the one making the choices to better her family and keep them a float at the same time all the support in the world couldnt make her do that she had to choose to do that. He is just amazing for supporting and being there thats not very hard. Mens standards are just set so low now a days they look amazing for the smallest things that they are suppose to be doing she is going above and beyond what a mother is expected to do in society but because more women do it the bar is so high thats its the next expectation and somehow its not as amazing as drying off a paper? Or being a decent human being and dad? Society puts too much on our shoulders and makes us feel like we cant mess up we have to be the over achievers and men can just skate by its so wrong but women are strong and we dont back down especially when it comes to our children and family.

He did do it. He probably took off work knowing that she couldn't miss class. He called her, yes, but he was the one that stayed home and took care of her until she got home. Most kids do want mom when they are sick anyway. He was just letting her know.
Honestly, in a relationship, it is little things and small sacrifices that end up meaning everything at the end of the day. He did what he could to take the pressure off her and do the work of two parents because he knew she couldn't then.
It's not wrong to say, "The dad is the hero," because he could have just as easily been angry for having to do it but he showed his children what a supportive husband looks like. We could all use more examples like that and fewer buffoon dads like most media portray fathers. You don't have to be uber tough and charge in to save the day and you don't have to look like an idiot as a father. Sometimes, it's just being there to wipe the tears or, in this case, wipe up the coffee and dry the pages.

"Is there LIFE out there?" I'm beginning to wonder! I'm NOT getting any younger. So i turned in my resignation and am leaving my job AND the state I live in.
I'm scared, nervous, but anxious for my future!

I don't know...if I had a husband like that, I'd be pretty set. He looks like Huey Lewis? Just seems like she had a terrific family supporting her. Very fortunate.

When one is learning to live again and move on by themselves. It is totally different. But it is special because they know what matters most to themselves. Yes have to find their way. But with God anything is possible.

Made me think of my mother, Maggie. She's been gone now for a couple of years+. Today is the 7th anniversary of my fathers death. Life is out here... Sure was easier though when my parents were here, not there, in the beyond. Thanks Reba McIntire.
