That was a good episode. It reminded me of this song, which I had completely forgotten about, I heard this a lot on the radio as a kid. I think Todd was a bit uncharitable to this song, it’s not Faith Hill’s best, but it’s decent.
I'm still disgusted how country radio completely abandoned this song after the album was released and it wasn't country enough for them. It was riding up the charts charging towards number one then was left to die at number twelve. This song is one of the best female ballads ever and her vocals are amazing. Now listen to country music and it's more pop than country and the number of country artists crossing into pop and vice versa is astonishing. Yet Faith was used as the example for the industry at that time. So shameful. If it wasn't for Faith (and Shania), the face of today's female country landscape wouldn't look like it does today.
exactly and dont forget reba, she is a great country singer, and i get frustrated of hearing the same beer drinking theme country songs every day on the radio at work where i live and i not hear enough of great country songs like this one enough. and i dont know if i'm the only one who find it more frustrating to know names of the songs they will play everyday and its annoying that some radio stations dont change up the playlist for each day of the week. because its the same playlist. sadly i cant be aloud to play my own playlist on my phone to get a different change of songs at work
@@josephmitchell5365 well I just listened to Angie Aparo sing it. It killed my ears so I didn't listen to it all the way through. I Love Faith Hill singing it. She has a beautiful voice and real emotion. That is how I feel any way
Funny how at the time, this album was considered somewhat of a sellout in the country music market. Faith going more pop and mainstream. Here we are 14 years later and this is Waaaayy more country sounding than 90% of what is out there today. The lyrics of this song are what country music used to be... heartache, real life, things people can relate to. Now all they sing about is having a good time, bro-mances, all light and happy. It ain't your father's country music.
Very well said. Thats why I thank god for blue tooth to hook my phone up to the radio in my car so I can listen to good music. I miss hearing this stuff on the radio. Every once in a while I will but it's rare.
Audrie you nailed it with the radio stations I don't listen to them anymore. I get in my car I pop a cd in. It was interesting when she came out with this album how a lot of her "so called fans" said they'd never listen to her music again and I'm thinking "for real?" If you're a fan of Faith you're going to listen to it and you may not like it but if you're a real fan you keep listening to her music.
“I don’t want pity, I just want what is mine” . I have to listen to this every time when I needed a strength. Love this song ever since it was released
Year 2024 🎉 can not stop Listening to this beautiful song On repeat Faith Hill this song was meant for your beautiful voice... Who else is listening 🎶 to this song 🎵
I'm gonna start simple by saying this is a compelling mtv. It is just top-tier..just blown my mind away! This is an extremely challenging song to carry. Faith really understand her niche and trust her gut. It is timeless classic now - like countless of her song. It is so country, stealth in vocal projection, greatly soulful and deep. The messages in the lyrics are simply chef kisses!
I find it ironic how people in country gave Faith crap because she was in a more pop-oriented direction. Now country seems more "pop" than ever, and nobody is complaining...
I use them to get all my frustrations out. When I listen to sad country songs (even though I'm married), I still think of all the heartaches I've been through with old relationships and loved ones passing away. But it doesn't mean I can't be happy, singing, dancing, and having fun with country too. I just need dat emotional release every once in a while
I'm sorry your wife walked out on you; but she probably didn't deserve a guy like you. Watching the music video for "Cry" is a truly unique experience with its visual effects and production design and Faith Hill looked great even with the "blasted with a fire hose" look.
Thank you, Faith Hill, for re-teaching us all to cry a little. It’s not Mary Toni. It’s actually the exact opposite for most people-it’s real, healing, and human. Us hards needed a relearning in that.
One of the most beautifully sung songs ever... by the talented gracious Faith Hill. She sings with such emotion and the lyrics are so much deeper now that I am older. You can hear her pain.
It's been 14 years~ I remember listening to it often in the car with my father when I was in elementary school. My father isn't around now, but he liked Faith Hill's song. My father used to play the keyboard at 7080 Cafe and used to play a lot of songs. I miss him. From. 🇰🇷
I remember I was in middle school and one of my best friends, Homa, introduced me to this song and Faith Hill. Since then, I’ve fallen in love with this masterpiece. Thanks Homa ♥️🫂
A great song that speaks to many hearts. I think we all have someone out there that we felt was a bit heartless or just didnt feel as much as we did. This goes out to all those that wanted just a little!
Late 90s, I used to wait for this song to be played on mtv for days and nights… I still feel nostalgic remembering those childhood days. Now I am 39 and still love this song with fondness.
+FaytLinegod I've heard it said somewhere that the tracks on this album were purposefully keyed to to upper limits of her range so that she could only hit them by belting them...the intent was to create a greater degree of raw emotion in them. Have you heard that?
This is one of the very hardest songs that Faith ever recorded. We all wached her sing it perfectly at the cma's in 2009 and as she walked off stage when she had turned in a perfect rendition of it, she shruged her sholsders in relief. What a job girl, we 'LOVE" your music...
This video makes me sad for all of those people who don't feel loved and those that aren't getting the love they deserve. Faith sings it in a way that makes me feel it. Everyone needs to be shown that they are loved, are wanted, that they matter. Thanks for sharing this beautiful video.
I'm hoping to maybe find love one day been single for quite a long time now feels like ill never find it music like this amazing song makes me feel I'm not alone
Your comment, hit me straight, as soon as this song almost reached to its end. I cried. I can't keep going on like this if I insist myself to be more curious, naive, got screwed up with slow understanding reasons. I ended up in the same line, that is to be really beating myself up so bad. I rather be, sane still, if I could. But, I'm really tired to love myself anymore.
The first time I heard this Faith Hill's song, I was having a very difficult time. I was 19 and I had fallen in love with someone who could never love me. The words Faith sings were so deeply close to what I felt. And today, twenty years later, when life took its own path, they still give me chills.
What I like about this song is that she sounds like an adult. This is not kiddy pop. This a mature, grown-up woman singing about a relationship. in a very soulful voice.
“I gave not wanting something in return, so cry just a little for me.” When someone or something takes a part of your soul, only then will you truly feel these words.

This song has definitely grown on me over the years. I remember when it was new, I didn't understand the music video, and I didn't understand the musical direction, but now I see it as one of her best vocal performances, and a gem from the early 2000s.
I heard this song not long after closing the door on an abusive relationship I was in, this song fits, I deserve so much, I just wish the man had feelings and could cry for me out of love, but it'll never happen. Beautiful song and one I listen to often to keep me away from the s o b.
My ex used me horribly and I found out almost too late. Despite my turmoil, I somehow found strength in this classic the only Faith's powerful voice could deliver.
I have needed to just fall apart and get the pain out, and this song is exactly what I need! There's a lot of pain here, and I speaks to what I feel inside.
I’m not a big country fan but I love Faith Hill and this album! It was one of my favorites in high school. It was definitely more of a pop album but it had a lot of depth and I just love her voice!
I forgot this song existed. I thought of this album and decided to listen to it after a breakup because I remembered a different song, and I completely forgot what this song was until it started playing and I knew every word.
Very accurate comments... and I have loved "Cry" ever since I heard it and I payed attention to the lyrics. Remember, Angie Amaro, the songwriter, was the original artist singing this one. And I don't quite remember if it were on the Grammys or the AMAs, but Faith also had some trouble singing this one live.
(Verse 1] If I had just one tear running down your cheek Maybe I could cope, maybe I'd get some sleep If I had just one moment at your expense Maybe all my misery would be well spent, yeah [Chorus] Could you cry a little? Lie just a little Pretend that you're feeling a little more pain I gave, now I'm wanting Something in return So cry just a little for me [Verse 2] If your love could be caged Honey, I would hold the key And conceal it underneath The pile of lies you handed me And you'd hunt those lies They'd be all you'd ever find And that'd be all you'd have to know For me to be fine, yeah [Chorus] Can you cry a little? Die just a little And baby, I would feel just a little less pain I gave, now I'm wanting Something in return So cry just a little for me [Bridge] Give it up, baby I hear you're doing fine Nothing's gonna save me I can see it in your eyes Some kind of heartache Honey, give it a try I don't want pity I just want what is mine, yeah [Chorus] Could you cry a little? Lie just a little Pretend that you're feeling a little more pain I gave, now I'm wanting Something in return So cry just a little for me, yeah [Outro] Cry just a little for me Oh, whoa, could you cry a little for me? Yeah, yeah
This is a great song for her......she's got a boatload of talent and this song shows off those pipes a little bit more than some of the other stuff she does. Love it
Ooh - for those who say Faith hasn't done a great live version of this - you are wrong. there are a couple on UA-cam. It is notoriously tough to pull this off live in this version - but she has done it (might struggle now though). However NOBODY else has managed it (including the one with 155 thumb screws!).
Listening in 2021. Something made me think of this. Hadn’t heard it in years. Still an amazing song. Whoever directed this video is incredibly creative and talented.
To my best friend, my childhood crush, my love for 10 years of my young life, the one who chose to be alone rather than with me, the one who sat next to me on the bus every day, taunting with proximity, to the one who knew of my tears and said nothing: I've finally found our song.
@@SEANALPURVIS Oof, honestly it's super cringe looking back. He's just moved in with his girlfriend of 3 years, I've just moved in with my boyfriend of 3 years. We go on double dates sometimes, we're still best friends. Not one thing ever happened between us.
All the tears shed over the years for those unworthy...those that took and took and gave nothing in return...I didnt give expecting anything in return but a little respect/consideration couldn't hurt
I was sixteen years old, and I was watching my parents' marriage fall apart. My father had been having an affair with my coworker. For the longest time, I thought my dad just didn't understand what he was doing to our family; I thought I could save our family by trying to keep my dad away from my coworker as much as I could, as if my coworker was some drug he could stop taking if he had help from his family. Then one day I was standing in the kitchen, watching my mom cry while my dad belittled her and his marriage to her. I wanted to hug Mom, or at the very least to stop smirking-just to do SOMETHING that would indicate sadness for what he was doing to our family. At sixteen, though, I just didn't know how to articulate what it was I was hoping for him to do. This song is just such a perfect encapsulation of all the hurt and desperation and powerlessness of that moment in my life: every single time I hear it, I'm back in that kitchen at sixteen years old again-except that more than a decade later, I'm able to recognize the emotional abuse for what it was. I used to sing this song as a lamentation of how my mother and I weren't enough for my father to even feel guilty about hurting us: I now sing it as a reminder of that smirk and that chuckle and that derision so that every year when he inevitably emails me on my birthday to guilt me about reconciliation, I can remind him just how little I want to reconcile with a father who would rather make his daughter question her sanity than allow her to question his behavior.
Wherever you are I just want you to know I read all of your words.. I wish it were so that I could take away your pain even if to endure it myself. Please understand, what happened to you that day was not your fault. It was not your fault. Maybe you and your mother could go to some therapy classes together? What you both experienced was tramatic and talking about it to another person skilled for these conversations is an awesome step to heal. You both need to heal and move forward in joy and love. Forgiveness is the most precious gift a person can give. Your father also remembers that time in your lives. Multiple moments surely that you might not even know of. He lives a useless life...and he knows it. Shame is a type of agony that won't let-up because you know you deserve it. My prayer is that you remember he is your father and he gets older with every passing day. It was, and is not your job to make him a good father. It is however, your job to be a good daughter. Get yourself healthy. Help your mother get herself healthy. And then...maybe you will respond to one of those emails. Or, write your own.. and perfectly your articulate your truths. Forgive yourself first, it is not your fault.
This hit from Faith Hill was the 752nd #1 song on Billboard's Adult Contemporary charts. It hit #1 twice in 2002 and then again in 2003, making it one of probably few songs to hit #1 3 times on any chart. We say goodbye to 2002 and welcome in 2003. What will the AC scene be like in the new year? Stay tuned.
Amazing, due to the world we live in today, this great song, is nothing more than a fairy tale. People just dont get it... I'm not a big country fan, but now and forever a huge Faith Hill fan.

My favourite Faith Hill song. It wrote my story at the time, I cried my heart out.
My favorite Faith Hill song of all time. The bridge is phenomenal.
Sad songs really have a way of helping people cope up with heartaches.

I have needed to just fall apart and get the pain out, and this song is exactly what I need! There's a lot of pain here, and I speaks to what I feel inside.
Yeah it's indeed an amazing Song
Hello Lance 👋
How are you doing today and hope you are fine from the COVID-19 virus?
I’m not a big country fan but I love Faith Hill and this album! It was one of my favorites in high school. It was definitely more of a pop album but it had a lot of depth and I just love her voice!
yeah country fans rejected the album for being pop
You are a country fan btw
Gotta respect her taking a diff kind of artistic direction and this is my favorite Faith Hill song because of it. And that bridge, omg 😍
I forgot this song existed. I thought of this album and decided to listen to it after a breakup because I remembered a different song, and I completely forgot what this song was until it started playing and I knew every word.
Yeah it's indeed an amazing Song
Hello Emily 👋
How are you doing today and hope you are fine from the COVID-19 virus?
Loved playing on this song.
Hearing this after years .. still makes me cry
Very accurate comments... and I have loved "Cry" ever since I heard it and I payed attention to the lyrics. Remember, Angie Amaro, the songwriter, was the original artist singing this one. And I don't quite remember if it were on the Grammys or the AMAs, but Faith also had some trouble singing this one live.
such a fantastic song it still gets a #1 from me in 2019
By far, the BEST thing Faith has EVER done!!!
Still loving this in 2018 :)
yep :)
Still loving this the last day of 2018
Still loving in 2019!

love Faith Hill. Favorite song is Stronger, unfortunately havent been able to find it on video.
(Verse 1]
If I had just one tear running down your cheek
Maybe I could cope, maybe I'd get some sleep
If I had just one moment at your expense
Maybe all my misery would be well spent, yeah
[Chorus]
Could you cry a little?
Lie just a little
Pretend that you're feeling a little more pain
I gave, now I'm wanting
Something in return
So cry just a little for me
[Verse 2]
If your love could be caged
Honey, I would hold the key
And conceal it underneath
The pile of lies you handed me
And you'd hunt those lies
They'd be all you'd ever find
And that'd be all you'd have to know
For me to be fine, yeah
[Chorus]
Can you cry a little?
Die just a little
And baby, I would feel just a little less pain
I gave, now I'm wanting
Something in return
So cry just a little for me
[Bridge]
Give it up, baby
I hear you're doing fine
Nothing's gonna save me
I can see it in your eyes
Some kind of heartache
Honey, give it a try
I don't want pity
I just want what is mine, yeah
[Chorus]
Could you cry a little?
Lie just a little
Pretend that you're feeling a little more pain
I gave, now I'm wanting
Something in return
So cry just a little for me, yeah
[Outro]
Cry just a little for me
Oh, whoa, could you cry a little for me?
Yeah, yeah
Faith Hill restores a classic Cadillac. Well done indeed!
Incredible song and meaning and Faith sings with such emotion
Wow!!! I don't know who is better....Cassadee or Faiith? What an incredible song!!LOVE IT!!!!
I cry more than just a little every time I hear this song
Listening in 2021. Something made me think of this. Hadn’t heard it in years. Still an amazing song. Whoever directed this video is incredibly creative and talented.
Rediscovering songs you loved once is awesome. Cheers to new goosebumps 😉
Gosh shes so beautiful
To my best friend, my childhood crush, my love for 10 years of my young life, the one who chose to be alone rather than with me, the one who sat next to me on the bus every day, taunting with proximity, to the one who knew of my tears and said nothing: I've finally found our song.
You should make this comment into a song. I can hear it. Well written. 🥰
Protect that voice, those lungs ...precious vocals ...protect the heart also, as I do ...it all helps
My favorite song by her. She is so beautiful :)
Denise Martin mine too,and when the lights go down
This song deserves 100 million views
Written by Angie Aparo. He’s one of the greatest of all time. His version is awesome too! 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Hi……how you doing??
I gotta disagree , sorry FAITH HILL nailed this song 🎵
To me this was her best album!!! Pure Faith! Love you!!!!!
