I love how she used " so could you" and not so "So should you". As a person who used to suffer from an eating disorder, she is one of the most gentle, encouraging nutritionist. I love her so much
I can't tell you HOW HELPFUL this has been in my life. And eye opening. You don't have to be famous to be someone's hero. Women like you are my heroes.
In animal derived milks the calcium often is also added & animal milks are definitely processed before they reach the shops. In the case where calcium isn't added in the milkfactory, the cows are given supplements to make sure the milk has enough so they can label it, nothing unprocessed about that. Search for the term "calcium bolus" [sic!] to see a video how they supplement calcium to cows. B12 & other supplements are also often injected. While supplements are a billion dollar industry, it isn't the vegans that are driving it, quite a lot of supplements are produced for the aggricultural industry. As Joyfulvegan.com would say; "cut out the middle animal." If you want more calcium in 'natural' form, you've got to eat those greens & grains. Dr Greger has several video's about this, as well as Mic the Vegan. And while berries are full of antioxidants, other fruits, veggies, legumes, nuts & seeds also have their place. Berries are just a very jummy way to get them easily, especially in a morning smoothie or porridge. (^.^)
I did wonder about the plant milks. We raise our own cows on pasture so nothing is added. The plant milk had b vitamins which I wonder is methalyted? My son doesn't eat dairy and I would love to find more sources of calcium for him.
powerpuff4ever thank you for pointing this out - words and attitude are so important esp with food and meal time - I "worked with" a nutritionist to try and regain good / balanced health after 22 gall stone attacks and then finally surgery - she was so completely unaware of how arrogant and bossy she was by presenting her information in ways that made me feel like I was a naughty toddler who had to do what they were told and had no control over their food instead of treating me as a grown (48 yr old) up with complete control - that "partnership" lasted long enough to get the basic information I needed and to satisfy my family doctor - I am proud to say my dramatics were mostly left for the produce section of my local grocery store - where I'd reenact my appointment for the benefit and amusement of the produce guys as I'd look in great disgust each and every week (for six weeks 🙄🙄) at those blessed mangoes that afore said nutritionist condescendingly assured me was one of only a very few foods that would heal my wounded gutt - only problem was I HATE MANGOS and I hate food bullies - sorry - long story short - yes language makes A HUGE difference - and I'm a new subscriber because of presentation as much as content - THANK YOU both 😊🤗
I’m not vegan, but I LOVE this UA-cam channel. I do love all things plants (except soy, which I don’t eat), so I love seeing your particular combinations. I eat the following practically every day: Greek yogurt, berries, chia seeds, hemp hearts, various nuts/seeds, greens, cucumbers, and sweet potatoes.
she's so soft, kind, gorgeous and peaceful. everytime she smiles she makes my day. she's like an angel that would have come to earth to help people feeling better and make this place a better place 👍💗😍
This was one of the best days ever because I just discovered this INCREDIBLE UA-cam channel, which I'm convinced is one of the best ever. I can't stop watching your videos!! The cinematography, practicality, organization, and pure information and goodness given straight to you in just one short video is brilliant. Literally will be using every recipe next year (and the grocery list). I really don't think I've come across a channel where I literally want to watch every second of every video. Also, pretty sure I could fall asleep to these videos too - they're so relaxing. Thank you. So. Much. Sincerely, a very grateful university student whose stomach thanks you
Hi, thank you for this video so much. I had never considered flax seeds before. 6 yrs ago I lost 110 lbs, and over the past year ive gained 20. My daughter is overweight, and im getting back there. I was healthy as a kid, and we ate oatmeal damn near every morning. So i made a batch of crock pot steel cut oats this past week. I went out and bought flax seeds and a coffee grinder and hemp seeds and sunflower seeds and chia seeds. And I put them in a Tupperware in my fridge. Every morning this week we've been eating steel cut oats, and I sprinkle about a 1/3 cup of the ground seed mixture over the top rim of her bowl of oats to make "hair" and I give her pieces of fruit to make a smiley face. It's been the best thing ever. 🥰 Your simple chunks of wisdom have been so inspiring for my little family. 🙏 Blessings to you for your creating this content.
for everyone who's looking for other sources of calcium than plant milk: - green, leafy vegetables: such as broccoli, cabbage and okra, but not spinach - sesame seeds and tahini - dried fruit, such as raisins, prunes, figs and dried apricots
I keep coming back to this video about once a year... It sounds stupid because you'd think I'd have memorized what I need to eat and why, but I find the gentle reminder really helpful... ❤️
I absolutely love your videos! They are helping me to go through this transition to veganism in a smooth and gentle way. I live in Rio de Janeiro, so some of these foods in your videos are quite hard to find and a bit expensive. But Brazilians are resilient and always find a way to thrive! Everyday I eat an awesome shake with abacate (a big, softer and sweeter Avocado), banana, passion fruit bran, chia seeds and oat flakes! I never get tired of it! But I'm still having issues with the milk replacement, since I can't have soy derivatives because of my hypothyroidism. Other plant-based milk are quite expensive around here. For lunch or dinner, I always start with a serving of lettuce, arugula and grape tomatoes. I also make sure to have beans (black beans or lentils), dark leafy greens (spinach or kale), eggplants, zucchini, pods and carrots. I usually prepare them as some curry, crazy dumplings or simply stewed. I always make sure to finish lunch with an orange or a tangerine. As a snack, I eat a lot of fruits (melons, grapes, pears, kakis or custard apples - it depends on the season) and a delicious homemade coconut milk yogurt with chia seeds to give the right consistency - I learned the hard way not to have more than 10 grams of chia seeds per day! :/ That's about it! If possible, I'd like to ask for some videos teaching how to make high-protein meals for people with hypothyroidism (I loved the last one!! But almost every option had soy derivatives) and, if possible, how to make homemade plant-based milk with cheaper, but still nutritionous ingredients.
I love watching your very professionally made and informative videos. Nothing in-your-face, or jarring. I’m 62 and finally understand the term “girl crush” (learned of this thru “peaceful dumpling”). Sadia, you are truly beautiful both inside and out.
These were good choices. I find that a lot of other channels tend to neglect probiotics. Our gut health is so important! It's very evident that you're well studied.
This woman and this channel is so pleasant and easy to watch. The information is always concise, to the point and always valid. Also, the woman is a natural presenter with a very soothing voice. My new favourite channel. #inspired for 2018!
TURMERIC! I'm Indian and its in most Indian curries and dhals, but I'm now used to putting it in everything. I sprinkle it on cereal, add it to my salad dressing, smoothies, make turmeric tea, face mask, latte etc. It tastes so earthy and mmm but also keeps my spots in control!
So nice to see a vegan dietitian and nutritionist. I am an rn but always had lots of love for nutrition. If I wasn't a nurse, I would've been a dietitian. I just found you on UA-cam and just watched a bunch of your videos. Thank you and pls keep posting.
I'm so glad I came across your videos! I love your content and how creative your printable recipes are! Everything is so beautifully created and the way you come across is so encouraging, calm and inspiring! I've become so inspired to do better health-wise and feel that I can actually do this after watching a couple of your videos already! Already subscribed and thank you so much for all that you're doing - this really does help others who wish to make changes or incorporate healthy ideas into their diet whether vegan or not. Along with "Rainbow Plant Life", you're my fav!
My favorites and a staple for me are Sprouts, In particular Broccoli sprouts and Mixed Bean Sprouts. Since don’t have much time for prep and cooking anymore, I just buy there ready at Sprouts Farmers Market, each about $2. for a container with it, lasts at least 4-5 days. I buy multiple containers and stock up on these. So worth it have with breakfast daily, along with a couple small avocado slices and huge serving of deep power greens, large bag from Costco for $4.99 lasts about 5-6 days, I add greens to everything and most meals. Then a side plate of fresh blueberries with some kiwi...occasionally other fruits in season, like persimmon, cherries, papaya etc. Love all fruits. Very nice beautifully organized and produced video! Thank you. Great channel.
I doubt I'll ever be a vegan, but these videos inspire me to add so much plant products to my meals. I hear your calming voice when I'm preparing my meals! Before getting pregnant, my goal was to add more color to my meals, something yellow, red green, even purple. Now I'm adding seeds and leaves to my meals. I am learning, and praise God, I feel like I'm taking care of my body and that of my family. It helps that I have such a supporting community! You are now part of that community. Hugs and Kisses from Houston, TX.
@@ammadnaeem5069 I went vegan overnight. I believe in God. Quit trolling. Veganism is about compassion, not about your religious beliefs. And I believe in a compassionate God that rules the universe, and a compassionate God wants his followers to be compassionate. There are multiple christian vegan groups on facebook and in the real world, we arent going away - we are growing.
@@ammadnaeem5069 interestingly enough, the bible does say to not deny meats and for good reason. There are nutrients found in meats that are essential/vital and on a vegan diet these have to be taken through supplements which are artificially created by man. You can do whatever you want and I myself dont eat a ton of meat but I also understand it has its necessities. Not personal opinion either.
Same here was looking for kids food and here I am, found ur channel. And listening to you and your to do videos from cooking to cleaning till keeping our mind and life happy actually soothes me. 👍🏻
Will you believe me if I said I just discovered your channel and saw all your videos at one go? You are such a kind soul who is pretty, has an infectious smile and a soothing voice! XoXo, Love from London!
Sadia, Good morning. It’s Monday morning and I am loving it. You’ve definitely got me spellbound with your videos of a variety of things. The contents are very simple yet so essential for our daily life. I also like the fact that you suggest and recommend doing things rather than demand that we should do this and that like the ones I see in most other videos. Keep it up. I’ll be sure to watch all your upcoming videos. Thanks. From New York...
Thank you so much you is what I've been looking for to start a vegan lifestyle I 58 years of age I have knee problems but want to exercise and be healthy love your videos
Thank you for the wonderful list of daily goodies. It makes me feel good about many of my food choices and helps me see some things I could improve. One thing that I eat almost every day is beans. My wife is kind enough to make a big crock pot of mixed beans that lasts a week, so it makes quick, easy meals. My favorite lunch is a bowl of beans over white sweet potatoes, with a green salad on the side. Beans are a great source of fiber and protein, and that lunch easily carries me through until dinner.
Nearly everything you mentioned goes into my favorite breakfast smoothie: spinach, kale, berries, ground flax, and kombucha! This is an amazing way to start the day, and OH SO filling! TFS this awesome video!!
You make me regret my decision to take biomedicine in college. Now it's too late but I really want to be a dietician and nutritionist like you 😢 God bless you, Sadia !
I am not vegan yet, but I have been thinking seriously about it in the past couple of months, and I have to tell you: your videos are really helping me a lot, I am listening to your advices and I feel really inspired by the message you're sharing. So thanks a lot, really! (and any other advice or thoughts from anyone about veganism that could be helpful for someone who is new to this lifestyle will be appreciated!)
Finding this video this morning was a blessing! It can be a daunting task, trying to find a simple way to be sure I'm eating what I need to in order to ensure I am getting the best possible nutrients so that I can ditch the vitamin supplements ($$) and keep a healthy immune system. Thank you so much!
I would love to see a plant-based yogurt recipe! I don’t see one on the website 😢 I’ve made my own with cow milk for awhile but I’m trying to get away from dairy right now. That’s definitely my favorite way to get probiotics!
I'm new to your channel and absolutely love how inspiring you are! I was wondering, is there a reason why you store your whole flax seeds in the freezer instead of the cupboard?
You look extremely healthy. I have always tried to eat healthy but had a bad sugar addiction. I have incorporated all the foods you mentioned in my diet over the last several years. Cancer made me pay more attention to nutrition as it is one of the few things you have control off. A nice neighbor cooked for me for Thanksgiving but I had to throw most away because it was heavy on the starch and saturated fat.
Hello Sadia, I'm new around here! I'm so glad to have discovered your channel yesterday. I love how your advices for life/food/house seem so easy to "accomplish". I'm so happy that I bought my first jar of tahini today, I can say that I'm gonna be proud of preparing my own hummus :p . Kisses from Paris!!
-PLEASE- do a whats in my fridge/pantry. I now live by myself and I wanna be sure I have healthy options all the time. love your videos, saludos desde argentina!
I give my nephew leafy green smoothies with bananas, berries, and nut butter and tell him it's ice cream!! lol I know I'm wrong for lying to the kid, but he's getting fresh fruits and veggies daily so my sister says it's fine!
I know u might not see this but I recently discovered ur channel and it is EXACTLY what I have been looking for. The way u explain thinks with facts and ur knowledge makes me want to try them cuz I know theres a good chance that I'll see results. And thank u for ur blog because it's very convenient when I have to get those recipies. Also, could you please do a "everything I do in a productive day"? Please and thank uuu
Super leuke video's! Erg fijn dat er meer diëtistes in Nederland zijn die een plantaardig dieet promoten! Ik ben een diëtiste uit Amsterdam! hoi! Ik blijf je zeker volgen! Hopelijk tot snel! Liefs, Angela
Hi, Angela! You're the first dietitian I've met here in the Netherlands so far (even if virtually)... happy you commented, and thanks for the kind words and support. With love from Eindhoven
Uptil this very moment I had read the channel name as "Pick up Lines" and had wondered why such a sophisticated person would name it like that. I am in idiot.
I'm vegan and have found that calcium gets absorbed best when it comes from food, however the calcium coming from "fortified" foods isn't food-based. The calcium isn't naturally in there; it's fortified, so it's like taking a pill, which I've found increases the risk of heart attacks. I eat lots of sesame seeds, almonds, tofu, kale and other calcium-rich vegan foods, but still am not meeting my daily requirements for calcium. Thoughts?
Wonderful question! The studies that have found a link between supplementing with calcium and increased risk of cardiac events is the case if people take OVER the recommended amount needed, over a LONG period of time. You might find this article I've written helpful, titled "Calcium on a Plant-Based Diet: Everything You Need to Know": www.pickuplimes.com/single-post/2016/12/23/Calcium-on-a-Plant-Based-Diet-Everything-You-Need-to-Know. Certainly the foods you mentioned are higher in calcium than other plant-sources, and very nutritious food to have in your diet. I'm all for getting as much from food as possible. However, most people don't eat a lot of that food, in large enough quantities, so having fortified foods is recommended. The foods you mentioned may also have inhibitors that decrease the ability to absorb calcium - still great to have though! The article should help to clarify things a bit better :) I choose to also consume these fortified foods, like soy yogurt for example, because of the added probiotics, minerals, and carbohydrates and proteins they offer (much more than a supplement on its own can give!). Hope this helps to answer your question!
Sadia I am so pleased I found Pick Up Limes! I have rheumatoid arthritis and I've been told that it's as important (if not more so) to make sure I'm getting optimal levels of magnesium and Vit D3. I haven't found a vegan source of D3, so what should I do?
what exactly is your daily requirement for calcium? because there's a study by Harvard university that found out that one needs anywhere between 500-700 mg of calcium which was quite lower than what was (and still is) being recommended to consume as an amount. Here's the research!www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/how-much-calcium-do-you-really-need
Spot on. Focus on quality food and not a single nutrient. The like of the traditional Okinawa diet has calcium below so called RDA limits but there's nothing wrong with their bones. Weightbearing exercise and a well balanced wholefoods plant based diet will ensure you have healthy bones.
Thanks for this! I have been avoiding green smoothies for years because they do not sound appetizing. I just tried your beginners smoothie and love it- with almond butter :)
I am incredibly grateful for finding your channel. I have been transitioning from a typical American diet to a vegetarian diet and your videos have been incredibly helpful.
My wife and I recently joined Costco, and you may not like big-box stores, but we were able to buy 5 or 6 lb. bags of chia, flax, and hemp seeds for around $7.00 a piece. She makes small bite size muffins with them and they're fantastic!! And I also bought a 7 lb. bag of steel cut oats for around $9.00.
I just made the banana and peanut butter smoothie. It was awesome!! I drink green smoothies daily and this is best one I have ever had. Now I will have to try your other recipes. I am a new subscriber. Thanks for the videos, I really enjoy them.
Hi Sadia, I must say that I am in love with your recipes and your way of living life. It gives immense energy and positive vibes. I know it's an old video and if you read and acknowledge my comment, then I would be the luckiest one. I live in India, specifically Mumbai. I really love your recipes but here I face a lack of sources for berries. I know it's hard but can you suggest some alternatives to berries?

Where is this market
I doubt I'll ever be a vegan, but these videos inspire me to add so much plant products to my meals. I hear your calming voice when I'm preparing my meals! Before getting pregnant, my goal was to add more color to my meals, something yellow, red green, even purple. Now I'm adding seeds and leaves to my meals. I am learning, and praise God, I feel like I'm taking care of my body and that of my family. It helps that I have such a supporting community! You are now part of that community. Hugs and Kisses from Houston, TX.
What a beautiful message, Ana - thank you for sharing it with me! ❤
Whay is it that people who believe in God find it hard to go vegan.
Her voice is so soothing to ear, I can't concentrate on video😇
Thank you so much you is what I've been looking for to start a vegan lifestyle I 58 years of age I have knee problems but want to exercise and be healthy love your videos
Your videos heal my soul. Just watching gives me all sorts of health benefits, at least that's what it feels like. Thank you for your amazing work. :)
Her videos are so aesthetically pleasing.
And now I finally understand the hype around smoothies and yoghurt bowls
Thank you for the wonderful list of daily goodies. It makes me feel good about many of my food choices and helps me see some things I could improve. One thing that I eat almost every day is beans. My wife is kind enough to make a big crock pot of mixed beans that lasts a week, so it makes quick, easy meals. My favorite lunch is a bowl of beans over white sweet potatoes, with a green salad on the side. Beans are a great source of fiber and protein, and that lunch easily carries me through until dinner.
this isn't sauerkraut, but "blaukraut" (made from blue cabbage, while sauerkraut is made from the white stuff;). trust me, I'm German ;D
Susanne Rehm they both taste sauer though dont they
Du hast recht! ;)
Susanne Rehm ohhh cool I love learning little things like that :)
muminka In comparison the blue one actually tastes pretty sweet! :-) I´m also German... the "kraut-experts" LOL
the representant of austria - me - can also agree here. blaukraut is way sweeter :)
Please think about making a podcast or something because I binge watch your videos soooo often but I’d love to listen while I meal prep ❤️
You quickly became my favorite person on UA-cam!!
same
I am playing with a 5 ingredient morning routine to have daily as well. So far raw honey, hemp seeds, kiwi, and fresh mint are my favorites.
Nearly everything you mentioned goes into my favorite breakfast smoothie: spinach, kale, berries, ground flax, and kombucha! This is an amazing way to start the day, and OH SO filling! TFS this awesome video!!
Dry roast flax seeds in a pan, switch off the flame, and add some turmeric, powdered pink salt....it tastes so yummy!!
Please do a how-to video on how to make sauerkraut, yoghurts etc at home !
You make me regret my decision to take biomedicine in college. Now it's too late but I really want to be a dietician and nutritionist like you 😢 God bless you, Sadia !
I am really inspired and motivated from your videos! Keep them coming!🌸
Thanks so much, Amanda! And that's the plan... they'll keep coming ;)
I'm loving your channel! 💕💕
Thank you, Tina :)
Finding this video this morning was a blessing! It can be a daunting task, trying to find a simple way to be sure I'm eating what I need to in order to ensure I am getting the best possible nutrients so that I can ditch the vitamin supplements ($$) and keep a healthy immune system. Thank you so much!
Hi I am Girija from India. I love watching your videos. It's too helpful. Although I m not vegan but I liked all your receipies. Thank you 💓
Hi Girija, I eat vegan 2 days a week. I want to go up to 5 days. I feel a little better already.
Great question! They can go rancid (go off in smell and taste) so it keeps longer in the freezer. This is true for all raw nuts and seeds :)
You talk real slow but still it's not boring ,just discovered your videos and I'm loving it already😍
Love this, reminds me of Dr. Michael Greger's daily dozen but this is way simple and more manageable!
Your voice is too soothing! Love watching your videos.
Could you maybe do a vegan cookbook for people trying to recover from eating disorders please? You could call it 'Kind foods not to be scared of'. xx
1. Omega 3: Flaxseed, walnuts, chia, hempseed
2. Probiotics: Joghurt, kimchi, Sauerkraut, tempeh..
3. Green leaves: Spinach, arugula, kale, chard, dandelion, cornsalad, herbs..
4. Calcium: (Fortified plant-)Milk, poppy seed
5. Antioxidants: Berries & all other (colourful) fruits + vegetables.
👍♡
Hi, I appreciate all you've shared and recommended!! If you see this, can you do a video of anti-inflammatory foods?? Thank you
You look extremely healthy.
I get such a positive energy after watching your videos. thank you so much for all your creative ideas
randomly clicked your video..Now it seems i am in love with you.Research based work.Well done Sadia.Love from Pakistan
Thank you so much - and with love right back from Holland ❤
A new subscriber from Ecuador, great channel!
Thank you, Miguel! Welcome to the PUL community :D
Congrats on the 1M+ subscribers. I remember watching your channel when you had under 100k. Well deserved!
Honestly so happy I found your channel only a couple days ago! You motivate me to better myself everyday! ☺️🌺
Uptil this very moment I had read the channel name as "Pick up Lines" and had wondered why such a sophisticated person would name it like that. I am in idiot.
😂😂
What is sophisticated about her?
OMG you have no idea how much you are helping me to turn my life around ! Thank you so much !
(1) limes (2) flax seeds (3) probiotics (4) dark leafy greens (5) antioxidants :-) Thank you!
Love your videos! Just starting as a vegan and your recipes are very helpful!! Thank you very much
I'm vegan and have found that calcium gets absorbed best when it comes from food, however the calcium coming from "fortified" foods isn't food-based.
Here's the research!www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/how-much-calcium-do-you-really-need
poppy seeds
Spot on. Focus on quality food and not a single nutrient. The like of the traditional Okinawa diet has calcium below so called RDA
limits but there's nothing wrong with their bones.
Weightbearing exercise and a well balanced wholefoods plant based diet will ensure you have healthy bones.
great video! Sadia, can you make vid about how to storage these food to keep them longer? mainly for green veggies! thanks! X
I just came across your channel and fell in love. I’ve been binge watching ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Better than binge eating
Thanks for this! I have been avoiding green smoothies for years because they do not sound appetizing. I just tried your beginners smoothie and love it- with almond butter :)
Hi PUL... please do a video on how you make sauerkraut... thanks🌝
Will certainly add it to the list of videos I'd like to create - thanks for the request, Ichan :)
Pick Up Limes Tysm :)
Pick Up Limes yes please! I have no idea how to make sauerkraut and would love to see your method!
Hi @@PickUpLimes! Do you have the "Sauerkraut" video? I can't find it 🙈
I am incredibly grateful for finding your channel. I have been transitioning from a typical American diet to a vegetarian diet and your videos have been incredibly helpful.
loveee your voice and way of filming,
My wife and I recently joined Costco, and you may not like big-box stores, but we were able to buy 5 or 6 lb. bags of chia, flax, and hemp seeds for around $7.00 a piece.
Thanks for sharing, Laura - so happy you enjoyed it :D
SO glad this information is RECOMMENDED & Free and people like you are making it
Thanks UA-cam. I mean it! It's getting better and better
You have such a beautiful smile :) Love from France
Well that comment just made me smile again - thanks so much, Shay :D
Very nice video. Clear information. I personally prepare the flax with water, like a milk, then I add that "milk" to my coffee, yogurt, smoothies etc.
Hi Suraj, in the video she says antioxydants are present in any kind of fruits, so maybe try that... Especially since you have access to great fruits
Hi i know this is late but good indian berries- mulberry, amla, jamun are very easy to find
The fact that I already included all of these on my daily meals without realizing it makes me very happy ☺️
I tend to always eat avocado, yogurt, and bread everyday. :)
When I know my day is going to be busy I can't go without some tahini! I love it and it gives me so much energy!
Love the video.... I'm curious what the plant in the background is.
I have binge watched your videos since yesterday! Love them. Your videos are packed with goodness and information. Thank you!
