“Evolution is just a theory! No one’s ever observed evolution!”
Well, atomic theory is just a theory and no one’s ever observed an atom, so I guess nuclear weapons don’t exist by that reasoning.

I spent my 40 year career working for an electric utility company operating a nuclear power plant. This company spent billions of dollars on a "theory". Reactor theory. I even had a discussion with a coworker who described evolution as just a theory. I reminded him that his employer has invested heavily in a theory.

As a fervent supporter if the separation of church and state, I have to say here that it should be noted that the fundamentalist evangelicals that are following their stated agenda to take control of the law, etc. have declared that when they take power, evolution will no longer be taught in public school and creationism will be the only science they teach.
This is not a conspiracy theory. They quite willingly and publicly say this is their intent.
Please help save us from them by supporting church/state separation!

@mattn561 - My mother made sure that I knew all about evolution (and other science and history topics) by reading to me from the adult science books she read. It protected me when her friend talked her into becoming a Mormon and she had to scramble to reconcile what she knew to be the truth with their non-science beliefs. But I was shielded by then. Thanks, Mama!
So - keep up your teachings and instead of little kid books, introduce some books on science topics. My mother also made little sketches of what she was reading to me as we went along. They weren't fancy drawings. Your children will remember all this. All the very best!

Those dinosaurs were on land on the west side of North American Craton between the Absaroka and Zuni sea rise levels of the Sloss Sequences.
So according to 'The Principle of Faunal Succession' and 'Sloss sequences' it would of been:
    Absaroka rise,
    marine fossils,
    dino fossils,
    Zuni rise,
    marine fossils,
    KT Line (Iridium)
....so I bet the dinosaurs they are talking about are a certain portion of the Jurassic period specifically.
😄 but theyre are going to say that the original thing that killed the dinos was Noahs flood (which only lasted a little bit) and then there was scavenging. You cant win with people who are playing a game of make beleive
....it wouldn't make sense that the entire planet was that broiling after the KT extinction if the ancestors of extant species survived

@@blackice9088 Aron's specialty is evolutionary science, including paleontology and related fields such as geology. Further, I don't believe he was ever a Christian in the usual sense, having been raised in a Mormon home. As such I don't consider him to be the most reliable source for Biblical interpretation.
Having said that, I have to agree regarding the unicorn. That was simply a bad translation of a term that could have been translated rhino or aurochs, However, both Biblically and historically in the context of other Middle Eastern etiological creation myths, I think it's far more likely that when El (or Yahweh) brought order out of chaos by dividing the land from the waters, he had to contend with the ubiquitous chaos monsters of those ancient myths.
Of course, as with any of a number of mythological chimeric beasts, the people of the time would have used known animals to create the unknown. So sure, the elephant and the Nile crocodile could have been used as the basis for the chaos monsters. But in Ps. 74:14 Leviathan has multiple heads, and even the word is related to the earlier Ugaritic Lotan, a serpent that was the servant of the sea god Yam.
The picture regarding Behemoth is less clear, but the pairing with Leviathan in Job 40-41 indicates that it would likewise have been a chaos monster.

last year i took an earth history course and i'm really glad my professor took the time to thoroughly explain why young earth "theories" are complete bogus. i didn't need any convincing but it is incredibly useful to have a foundation of knowledge to really know *why* YECs are so incredibly wrong about so much.
one of the topics he covered was whether or not a global flood could account for the geologic time scale we see, and obviously no it doesn't, and it just completely boggles my mind how people think that's a reasonable conclusion to draw from the (somewhat) neatly ordered layers of geologic time that we have. how could a chaotic mess like that result in a progression from less to more complex body mechanics??

The flood is such low hanging fruit that it boggles my mind how anyone over the age of 9 could believe it. It flies in the face of virtually every field of life or earth science, as well as physics.
In certain states, debunking YEC tales (they don't qualify as theories, or even hypotheses) would land a teacher or professor in very hot water. I'm assuming your school is not in Texas, Florida, GA or any other bible belt state.
Debunking creationism and "Intelligent Design " should be part of every science curriculum, beginning in high school.

while i would prefer to keep scientific discussion separate from religion in a science class, i think it was a pretty important aspect of that class considering how many people around here DO believe in YEC. and it was leagues better than how my middle & high school teachers would say "this is the scientific theory... but its only a theory and you don't have to believe it if you dont want to, please dont tell your parents i was teaching you evolution or that god isnt real!"

I went to school in Florida. But that was long before the rightwing religious nuts took over this state and, even in the Catholic school I went to, I had never heard of such nonsense as a young earth or a literal Noachian flood. Creationism was for religion class and, even there, nobody ever taught us the earth was literally 6K years old. I don't think even the nuns took seriously a global flood. Evolution was taught in science class and, somehow, it never bothered anyone that man was descended from a lower primate . Somehow, we kept all that separate. Nowadays, we have a governor who encourages high school and middle school kids to report science teachers who dare challenge YEC. Even colleges worry that their donors will get word of their having taught science instead of the preferred mythology and professors walk on eggshells, at least until being granted tenure. PZ Myers has complained that his students are having to take remedial science courses because of this regressive insanity. And he teaches in Minnesota!
And we wonder why the U.S. is losing its position of scientific leadership.

@@petem.3719 Something people dont realize about theories of stuff is that let say the theory of evolution and evolution itself are to separate things evolution is an observation (aka a law or rules, there is no doubt we see evolution everywhere so this makes it a law just like the laws of motion for instance) and the theory of evolution is the best known explanation as to why evolution happens. Same with gravity, gravity is an observation (aka a law/rule) and the theory of relativity is the explanation as to why gravity happens.
People that dont understand science constantly claim that theory is just a guess, but the problem is we dont have a set singular definition of theory, to most people outside the scientific world (and some in) theory just means a hypothesis, or a guess, as to why something happens. But in science it is a term used to label an idea that has been rigorously tested over and over again and has been found to be unfalsifiable by many scientists. When something is a theory it is the highest honors any idea can have.
The theory of evolution is probably one of the most tested and unfalsifiable theory we have to date, there is more evidence for the theory of evolution then most theories we have in science. It is almost mind boggling at how anyone can look at the evidence we have for it and still think its not something that happens.

Behemoth is thought to actually be an elephant. "Tail like a cedar" isn't talking about the American cedar tree. It would most likely be like the cedar trees in the middle east, which an elephant's tail resembles a lot. Even other creationists can attest to this much. It's absurd to believe that dinosaurs existed less than 6 thousand years ago, though. If this were the case, certainly we'd find signs of humans and these massive creatures in the same sedimentary rocks. But we don't. Ever.

There's a few sentences about how it hangs out in water. Of course, elephants like the water but that could expand the possible inspirations to the Hippopotamus, which is also far more likely than Sauropods. And if you really get down to it, it's a play on words about the Penis of this animal. Swaying the tail and making it hard and so on. Ancient dick jokes are both more fun and more realistic than dinosaurs living 5000 years ago.

My grandmother used to make us ice cream when I was a child. She would put two plastic dish pans in the freezer a day or two before to make blocks of ice, and when we were ready to fill the ice cream maker bucket she would heave the heavy blocks with all her strength to the counter and deposit them with a resounding thud. To me they look monumental and indestructable. Next she put the wooden cutting board in the bottom of the sink and would have a go at the massive blocks with a hammer and chisel. It was an astounding vision to see my gentle grandmother so deftly demolish those huge blocks of ice into tiny shards with a controlled strength that made it seem almost effortless, even graceful.
I feel the same sense of astonishment when GG goes after creationism. She takes what the creationists think is a solid coherent argument and with her deft intellect and knowledge effortlessly and utterly destroys it, proving in the process how fragile it really is.

But I remember going to a Bible study once where the topic of dinosaurs came up, and I laughed like, "Ah yea man, hard to believe they make those bones in labs" - I was taught as a child that dinosaur bones were fake & a ploy by Satan. Except many Christians around me moved to correct me, insisting that dinosaurs existed but were wiped out in the flood. And it was just such a surreal experience. I can't even really describe the feeling, it was like the Twilight Zone.
It's just funny how goalposts can move when evidence becomes undeniable. Even happens in scripture, where God goes from living in the clouds and atop the mountains, to being in space, to then being in a realm beyond our ability to perceive ("outside of time" whatever that means) depending on such things. Thank you for your work disputing this rubbish

If Behemoth was based on a real animal, it definitely wasn’t a sauropod. In the King James Version, the description of Behemoth mentions mammalian traits, such as “the naval of his belly” and the “sinews of his stones.” A naval, or belly button, is an exclusively mammalian trait, along with external genitalia. In the English Standard Version, it describes that the tail is “made stiff like a cedar.” This could indicate that the “tail” is a euphemism for the male’s genitalia. Also, many descriptions describe that Behemoth likes to hang out around water, such as hiding under lotus plants and in the reeds of the marsh.

If we go with the former, then it tracks that the reason the Behemoth is a singular destructive entity could be that it was (to them) an abnormally large and aggressive specimen of regular animal, like an Elephant. Historically, given what we know about how lack of understanding of the natural world often led to supernatural conclusions, I don't think it's a stretch to assume the Hebrews saw *something* and associated it with their god

So over generations they could have simply overstated the stories of ordinary crocodiles and embellish them more and more until they are more or less unrecognizable as the original animal. A lot of myths are based on ordinary creatures which were simply not retold honestly.

Let's say that at least some dinosaurs survived to recent times. So? Nothing in evolutionary biology forbids that by itself, and it's conceivable that there could have been environments that protected some species. If some dinosaurs were around when humans existed, that wouldn't prove biblical creationism, nor would that fact even offer any support to creationism.

You are specifically referring to non-avian dinos, I take it?

    • @MichaelAChristian1

That would mean that all the "geologic column" is false. That you can't assume anything "evolved" because it is still alive today and the fantasy of "millions of years" dies again. Jesus loves you! Call upon the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be SAVED!

@@gregcampwriter Again they claim dinosaurs are extinct for "millions of years". Seeing them run around destroys their claim leaving them with nothing but more absurd claims like the "oort cloud" and "biogenetic law" and so on that are all false.

@@MichaelAChristian1 The non-avian dinosaurs went extinct some sixty-six million years ago, but that was due to an asteroid impact, and nothing in evolutionary science says that every such dinosaur had to die out.
The biogenetic law was a speculation of over a century ago that failed to meet the burden of proof.
      The Oort Cloud exists.

I personally do believe in the dragon-dinosaur connection, but not the way AiG and other YEC organizations claim. My belief is that people in the past found dinosaur bones and, not having encountered anything remotely like dinosaurs, created dragon myths to explain the massive bones they found. Since complete skeletons are rarely found, a lot of the ideas of what dragons would look were probably based on one or two massive bones, which accounts for the wide variety of dragon designs across cultures. Not definitive by any means, but seems like a plausible explanation. This YEC bullshite? Yeah, no.

As often as we see fossils unearthed by erosion, its reasonable to assume that throughout human history we have encountered fossils a multitude of times without even digging.
