Call it "cock rock" or whatever you like, but that music wasn't meant to appeal to Lisa Loeb fans (to stick with an example from the era). Very few listened to that kind of music with the intention of delving into the deeper meaning of the lyrics. Cornell himself said his lyrics were at times just a bunch of meaningless nonsense.
