    Nice vid!
    I remember running into a large bull trout (~26") on Rock Creek in Montana...it kept chasing trout and whitefish I had hooked like in your video. Finally (not realizing at the time thats its illegal to target them) I just threw on a big streamer. Got it to chase several times and take once, but never did hook it. Still a vivid memory!

    Long shot you'll see this, but if I'm fishing in Eastern Idaho and camping there, what secluded water do you recommend? I hope to camp on a river with good fishing, beautiful scenery and not many people.

    I just found this channel. My wife is from Idaho, we now live in Utah where the rivers are so over fished its crazy. I am looking to fish Idahothis next year.
    For all those going on about removing the slime layer and killing the fish. Marine biologists scrape samples of slime to check the health of the ecosystem. If slime is removed frequently fish have the ability to increase their slime glands to reproduce slime more quickly. Isn't nature amazing!!

    Good stuff, thanks for sharing! Are the locations in order or mixed up in the video? Headed to Big Creek in August, just trying to get an idea of the terrain.

    Awesome video but please take off your glove when you hold fish. (2:55) there have been many studies showing the horrible infection and damage caused to the fish when handling with gloves or dry hands. It removes their protective slime.

    Giving your video a thumbs up for introducing me to these 3 Idaho streams. Good information for planning next summer. But please use nets and take the fish pix with the trout in the water.

    Is targeting bull trout legal in Idaho?

    • @danielhowe5435

      I know y’all “know” fish, but prob best to minimize the time out of water. Those wild native fish are special. Love your stuff rich. You let book on Rocky Mountain fishing, kinda like my bible over the years. Good stuff.

  • @aaronsessions2940

    couple things wrong here- first of all, it is illegal to take bull trout out of the water in Idaho. Second of all, why would you use a piece of cloth as a tailing glove? Woven cotton/polyester wipes off the slime layer that protects fish from diseases. I don't want to believe you killed the trout from handling it that way, but you certainly put a protected species of native trout at a higher risk of an early death.

    • @Idahohighcountry
      @Idahohighcountry 4 роки тому +5

      Aaron Sessions You are incorrect about removing bull trout from the water in Idaho. It is actually legal to take them out of the water for a second to remove the barbless hook and snap a picture then they need to be immediately released. I agree with you about using a piece of cloth for a tailing glove they should have used a rubberized landing net...

    Do you guys not have any respect for these gorgeous Idaho trout? How about we learn some fish handling skills and start by not just tossing the cutties back into the water - is it that strenuous to kneel to the water and let them go? How about a net for less strain on the fish? How about not pulling bull trout 5 feet outta the water? How about not using a cloth to wipe all their protective slime off? Painful to watch.

  • @jacksonhayes688
    @jacksonhayes688 4 роки тому +22

    Please use nets next time when handling these wild cutties. That way we can enjoy them for generations! Great video otherwise.

      ...and please refrain from holding them out of the water up in the air for a photo. Same here, great vid otherwise.

  • @66Cardiff
    @66Cardiff 9 місяців тому +1

    Stop using fabric to tail the fish. The fabric rubs the protective slime off the fish. Get a rubber net. It will not rub the slime off when wet.
