    Jablo has always fished different. He showed me some hydraulic holes that I never even looked at during my time as a guide. He’s also an amazing Human. Super nice and it makes me happy to see him still on the greatest river in North America. 2005 was the year I shared a lodge with him for a season

    When you are pounding the bank for browns on a swift river, you have to have a super-quick set. It is maddening to see all that great water go so quickly by. Good video.

    I watched a video of The New Fly Fisher at the Palisade Lodge in Victor Idaho but I can't find that video. The guide explained the new system of trout catch and release to get the native cutthroats back. A thing was put in the hybrid trout nose and if you caught one of those they would mail you a check. There was no limit on hybrid,browns or rainbows. Great video but when I went back to the UA-cam link it was a different video. I hope this rings a bell.

    • @deric999
      @deric999 7 місяців тому

      Ya not sure about the video but I was just on the south fork Teton today. Not harvest of cutthroat but we can keep all the rainbows and hybrid in the Teton at least. This was three years ago and I don’t remember anything in the proc about the nose thing but they do collect heads at some places and some fish are tagged.

    Unless you're in a drift boat the best time to fly fish is late fall when the river is below 1000 cfs. A person can put waders on and go crazy with the amount of fishable water.

    Strange program. In Oregon w/o much public input they want people to kill browns in the stretch of the Deschutes where Fall river empties into it. The Browns compete with the native bows. Many trophy browns lurk in that section of the D, and most fishers would like to keep it that way. I guess Idaho doesn't want to get rd of it's trophy browns, but in fact, they are capable of eating even larger rainbows. Oh well.

      Yes a silver vibrax works great. Many places in Idaho require you to use a single barbless hook though. The fly fishermen will give you dirty looks for using a spinner(you're more likely to spook the fish with a spinner) but you will likely catch more and bigger fish if you know how to do it right. One cast maybe two per hole is all you get before the fish are spooked. But you're way more likely to catch a fish on the first cast with a spinner.

      Guarantee we can show you things you didn’t realize you could do. Guiding is about taking all walks of life. People who are paralyzed, autistic, blind, deaf, 4yrs old, 97 years old. In between are the people who “fished all over the world and know everything” , to the young man who saved his money bagging groceries and go on his dream trip. If you know everything then you should just stop fishing. Because then, what are you fishing for? These are all examples of the demographic we deal with. Be humbled on the river and you then have gone fishing.

    • @joshbeekman3166
      @joshbeekman3166 3 роки тому +1

      I agree with this. I have nothing against guides or guided trips, if it gets people on the water, that's great. For me, a huge part of the fun is learning the sport myself. I love researching, practicing and experimenting by myself. I have only been fly fishing for 3 years and truthfully, I am very much an amateur. I probably don't catch as many fish as I could and that is more than OK with me. It really isn't about catching tons of fish. It's about developing techniques, learning a river, getting better each time out. And of course, I love the tranquility and peacefulness of fishing solo or with a good buddy. It would drive me absolutely nuts paying good money to have someone else telling me "keep your rod up" or "mend it!" all day long. But that is just me. DIY all day.

    @stevestokes1123 2 роки тому

    Why not just harvest the rainbows and cut bows and either enjoy the harvest with your family or donate the fish to your local food banks to feed the less fortunate families? The cost to shock, tag, and pay out "bounties" can't be less than just eating or donating the food. So Idaho considers a cash incentive as a conservation concept? No it isn't. It is more of a privileged person's ridiculous idea of solving a problem that human intervention has created. It is absurd to hide behind the idea the problem is also because "the river is so healthy. " No, the river was fine, human intervention created a problem, man tried to fix the problem, and then created another worse problem. I guess the privileged would rather attached a cash reward to an epic fishing trip that most fisherman dream about. We here in Missouri have an overpopulation of white tail deer, extra harvesting is encourage by landowner and the meat is donated.
