  • Bloody Birthday is yet another 1981 birthday classic that encompasses all the best aspects of the genre. It also dips a big toe in "evil kid" territory. My goodness this one is a real treat. Here's my review! #BloodyBirthday #Slasher

A little disconcerting the kid paying Curtis is more believable as a psychopathic killer than some adult actors are in their portrayals

This is an underrated classic along with The Slumber Party Massacre. I find all of it creepy. The kids are creepy, the kills are mostly creepy, and the score especially is creepy. It is still fun and I love rewatcing it. Wish it got a sequel tho. Hopefully you can discover more 80s slasher hidden gems after this.

Elizabeth Hoy was the little girl with the well timed reactions at the fancy restaurant in The Blues Brothers. I love it when John Belushi says to the parents, "How much for the little girl, your daughters, your wife, sell them to me!" and Hoy gives this hilarious jolt.

These kids have ice-water in their veins. Curtis, especially, gives me eerie "Mikey" or "Bad Seed" vibes. You have to admire that exceptional talent and effort in a young actor.

My favorite killer child or children movie is LUCAS. I know, Lucas is not a horror movie but Curtis at the funeral scene in his brown suit reminds me so much of Lucas in his tux going to the prom. Great movie to review, it totally exudes the essence of early eighties slasher. Thanks for the reviews

Its a very silly film but enjoyable. It was on UA-cam for a while, but was taken down. Its weird that the little girl who plays Debbie is the same girl who played young Wendy in Prom Night. I also can't believe Susan Strasberg was in this. She played the teacher. She is an incredible actress and one of my all time favourites. I would love to see you review Sweet Sixteen. She was also in that too.

Wish I could say I absolutely loved this movie like I do with a majority of slashers out there, but I didn't. I still enjoyed it, but I don't know if it was just because I've seen so many other slashers from 1981, that it felt more like a 70s evil children film than the 80s slasher I was expecting, or if it just felt weird because the kid actors did very well with creeping me out, but for me this movie is like "Yeah, I liked it, but I don't need to ever watch it again, at least for a few years"

I absolutely loved this movie. It is a criminally underrated classic, imo. Curtis reminded me of an evil Mclovin from superbad 😁. The Graveyard kill was my favorite, and the creepiest scene in the film, imo. I'm really glad you covered this movie.
Have you ever seen the movie The Paperboy (1994)? That is a lesser known killer kid movie. It is about a 12 year old boy who becomes dangerously obsessed with a single mom and her daughter. I'd recommend this movie, if you are interested.

I have a crazy theory that these 3 children were Krug, Sadie and Weasel when they were little (last house 1972), and when they get older they change their identities and names 🤣🤣🤣 (sometimes I think that this trio of villains is somewhat inspired by those 3 Weasel icons craven)
(I know it still doesn't make sense cuz this movie is from 1981 and last house is from 1972 LOL, but imagine it takes place in 1950 for example hahaha).

I really don't like Bloody Birthday. I watched in on Shutter back in the spring of this year and I found the kids to be brats and not creepy at all. And how in the world can those little kids pick up all those dead bodies without help from adults? I do like poster art for Bloody Birthday, just not Bloody Birthday. And I do like birthday slashers like Happy Birthday to Me and Madhouse. I find those to be some of my favorite slashers of all time.

Teen in the '80s downtown Julie Brown and I remember she used to host headbanger ball that was back in the day when MTV played music videos and I have to say now at a man at the age of 50 I have not seen MTV and several years the last time I saw MTV was the Jersey shore Jersey housewives something.. and Dum dums versus movie that I think John Goodman was in it called popcorn and I remember that movie was it was kind of like one of those things where the seats would shock you and it had like some kind of different sound system and smell a vision and it was in 3D like very immersive but I always found it creepy when there's like these old films that are dealing with kind of provocative directors and I remember that was a sequence that creeped me out and that popcorn movie where I remember they described it this person made these movies that would just show people picking their nose and stuff and in a way it's kind of reminiscent of Rob zombie's House of thousand corpses the best part about that movie that I was so looking forward to back in the day was Captain spaulding's little haunted house dark Ride but anyway you do a great job on your channel and I don't understand what's going on with the UA-cam algorithm that I don't get would you release stuff until like a day or two later so just a heads up on that maybe reach out to the higher ups or whatever and what do you think of The exorcist reboot remake that is I guess happening and if you ever read the book I never read the book I remember my grandmother had the book but I did listen to the audiobook of my new to work and stuff and there were things in the movie that they couldn't quite do at that time in 73 however I think now with CGI if it's done well would be very effective your thoughts on that peace out be safe and well love your content and channel

Thanks Sean. I remember both Julie Browns back in the day. They had their own flavor, which was cool.

Julie Brown was lights out funny as Buffy - the Weather Girl - in the two episodes of Newhart that she was in. She’s kind of hot in this movie; seen it twice on TCM when would more regularly play lots of ‘70s/early ‘80s horror films at 1 AM or 3 AM.

@@DrumdumsMovieReviews lol, after watching the “scene” again (with the Van Halen poster in the background) I’m enthusiastically upgrading “kind of” to VERY hot.
Love your videos! You’ve captured that nostalgia of going to the video stores in the early to mid ‘80s as a kid, and always going to the horror section to look at the cover art, and the pics on the back. Some I’d seen of course, and you’ve reviewed a number of the ones that I never did see back in the day. Great job!

The little girl told her mom that the two boys did the killings not her. That's why the mom is protecting her daughter so mom doesn't know that her little girl is a killer.

I recently watched an episode of ‘Eight is Enough’, and the little blond girl played Nicolas’ (Adam Rich) girlfriend, and somehow seemed just as evil as that character as she had in this movie. She might have outdone Nellie Olson as far as I’m concerned.

Ugh... Damn kids! It looks like an interesting slasher, but it might have been better if it were left a mystery until the end, which kids it was. So instead doing it like the first “Friday the 13th” with just a hand, walking legs, or a shadow on the wall. “Bay of Blood/Twitch of the Death Nerve” did the same thing until the reveal. Of course “Children of the Corn” took it all the way up to eleven. And I believe “Hostel” had a killer kids scene where if you didn’t have gum for them, they would bash your head in. “The Good Sun” is another one I need to watch.

Drumdums agreed. I just feel like the absence of a face is scarier when it’s a hand with a weapon. Even like Cropsey in “The Burning” in the raft scene where it’s just a silhouette looming overhead with hedge shears. That’s just what I find chilling.

Love this movie. Debbie is creepy AF!!! The way she killed her dad and her sister and didn’t even blink??? Her mom was next if she didn’t need a getaway driver. Curtis was just evil.

The classic slasher film 'Bloody Birthday' turned 40 since last April.
    Three preadolescent psychos.
Both 10-year old boys Curtis and Steven defeated, charged for several murders, but 10 year old Debbie escaped with her loving mother who doesn't her "precious little girl" was a psychopath just like her 2 friends, and then secretly killed the last victim before the end of the movie.
All eight victims: Four males, and four females.
    Impressive, gender equality. LOL
