Some foods contain protein but are no where close to the same type of quality protein that it’s claiming to be. Today, we’re breaking down 5 foods that are very poor quality proteins (but still get touted as high quality proteins) and what you can eat instead

I can understand people thinking peanut butter and almonds are a good source of protein. But did people really think Avocado, Broccoli and Leafy greens are good sources of protein? Really?
I'm vegetarian and people have asked if I eat a lot of salads in order to get my protein intake 🤦🏻♀️ I've also been told that eggs are dairy
1. Peanut butter
2. Avocado
3. Broccoli
4. Leafy greens (spinach)
5. Almonds
6) Apple Pie
1,4,5 are high in oxalates ….
@iketo: Crazy high oxalates. Dumping them after years of green smoothies and almond milk, almonds., etc.
@@lululove6175Peanut are low in Oxalates
This was such a great video Autumn, I had to watch it twice. 🤗
You are so brilliant for making this video. More people need to talk about what is considered quality protein.
I like this video clearing the misconceptions people often have regarding non- animal sources of protein. If you want a good quality protein, animal source is your best option.
I learn so much by watching your videos. Thank you Autumn and have a great weekend. 👍❤️🇨🇦
Thanks Guylaine! Have a wonderful weekend!
I really appreciate you enlightening us in this because I’m always thinking I don’t get enough protein in my OMAD but I incorporate a leafy green salad full of nuts and seeds, avocado, then I follow up with a lean meat or fatty fish but I still felt like I was lacking in protein. Maybe I’m getting more than I thought I was!
Thanks for this very interessting video. What do you think about tofu, proteins of soja? Tempeh? What do you think about phyto estroeogens? Best regards,
You have some of the most interesting topics! Thanks again!
Glad you like them!
Im largely plant based, but not vegan. I had a vegan friend who said he ate a lot of avocado for protein. It's SO low. It's primarily fat, good fat, but fat. I tried to convince him to eat more beans and tempeh but he was mainly a junk food vegan. He didn't get it. As for me, as I approach 70 and my protein requirements increase, I'm including egg whites and salmon again. I also add some pea protein to my steel cut oats.
What are your thoughts about the protein quality in sprouted grains? I couldn't find a diaas score for sprouted grains specifically, just whole grains. Also, great info! We need more qualified folks speaking up about peanut butter especially.
I'm actually on a carnivore diet & my one & only cheat (call it a vice) is PB.
I had often heard it said that rice and beans together make a complete protein - are there some proteins that just miss being complete, and we can combine them with a complimentary food? For example, I'm wondering about collagen powder with pumpkin seeds or chia seeds to supply the missing tryptophan, things like that. Thanks.
I also thought dark green vegetables - oh well, I'll still eat my mountain of broccoli and also spinach. I'll just add the cottage cheese 😉 Hope your weekend is good.
I use tempeh, tofu (fermented as well, has more protein), soy protein isolate and tuna. And that works for me perfectly !
Thanks for the video. I’m still trying to figure out what my niece can eat as a vegetarian.
😮wow thank you for this share. I need to have my mom hear you. She eats muffins for breakfast, I always tell her she needs a protein, eat peanut butter 🤷♀️ how wrong I am...
Great information ℹ️ as always! Thank you Autumn! 👍🏽🥰🐶
Glad it was helpful!
Extremely helpful, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Welcome to the month of February!❤❤
woohoo! cheers, Ervin!
What are your thoughts about isopure, the drink mix?
Hi lovely I'm one of your subscribers I also share your videos they are amazing and they have very much help to me.
You talk about salt and water can you tell me how to do this remedy please please 🙏 🙂 😘🕉🥰❤
Hi Autumn, you didn’t say Tofu in high protein foods. Is there any reason? Is it not a full protein?
Thank you for your video! Have you done a video on purely vegetarian complete sources of protein as yet? I don't recall but maybe I missed it.
I go over this in a *ton* of detail in the blog post I mention here: www.autumnellenutrition.com/post/the-best-high-protein-foods-for-weight-loss-your-complete-guide-full-food-list
@@AutumnBates thank you
Broccoli 🥦 might not b protein but when you add to your protein meal is one of the best vegetables to eat for the brain 👌
Yup, it definitely has its perks! Protein just isn't one of them
@@AutumnBates No perks only goitrogens.
Ah man, I just ate almonds yesterday to cap off my protein LOL
Peanut butter, avocado, almonds= good quality of fat and other micronutrients. Leafy greens and broccoli= good quality of fiber and micronutrients.
well said!
@@AutumnBates And always lick the spoon, be it any nut butter or tahini 😁.
🌞 🎯 Spot on with the Popeye reference!! ⚓️🛟
I'm so proud to be a part of your growing tribe! Cheers! ⚘️🕊♥️ 🌏
🥰
I lov skippy over jiff. Extra Crunchy!
We are bad vegetarians who sometimes get sushi. 🍣 I was raised being told that peanut butter was loaded with protein, and this was a real wake up call.
The way we communicate with others and with ourselves ultimately determines the quality of our lives. ~ Tony Robbins
What is the DIAAS score of cottage cheese.
Dairy products in general tend to rate at 100 or higher.
I use peanut butter as a fat in oatmeal, cocoa and protein powder yummy
Hi, i want to ask can 14 hours fasting help in weight loss, plz rply
Ben Bikman has brought up a big problem with consentrated plant protein powders. The concern is that as you concentrate the protein from the large volume of vegetables, you also concentrate other elements of the veggies... such as heavy metals, the amount of lead in a bowel of peas is irealavant, but the lead in 100,000 peas you're eating in half a cup is far more conserning....
Very interesting and a good point! I haven't heard his thoughts on that, but I would definitely be curious to hear more.

@@AutumnBates Ben would be a very good person to follow and learn from.
You can also combine two incomplete sources of protein, e.g. rice and beans, to create a good complete protein with all the essential amino acids.
You can protein combine, but you really need to make sure you're taking a look at the amount of amino acids (not just the types). I broke this down in extreme detail - along with the studied protein combinations with the highest DIAAS scores - with this blog post: www.autumnellenutrition.com/post/the-best-high-protein-foods-for-weight-loss-your-complete-guide-full-food-list
I calculated my protein requirements from the other video and it's 123g. So is 123g the weight of the actual meat or just the protein content that should be in it?
It's actual protein. So for example large eggs have 6g of protein, while an egg will be much heavier. I just weighed one I have, and the egg itself weighs 57g. If you have 3 eggs for breakfast, that's about 18g of protein. So if you were using meat, you'd need to figure out how much meat for the amount of protein you need to eat. 85g of chicken breast has about 26g of protein.
@@celticlass8573 Thanks
Well said!
Do people actually think these food are a significant protein source?
Waaa, it’s a sad day😢. Love my peanut butter!
Where do mushroom varieties sit on the DIAAS score??
I haven't seen it measured on the DIAAS score, but my *hunch* is it likely isn't very high up there. But we'll see once those studies are done!
@@AutumnBates I have seen vegans say how much some mushrooms are comparable to meats, but when I comes to amino acids I do not see the comparison either…
Difference between being A PROTEIN and HAVING PROTEIN. Who thought PB was a protein??? 😂😂😂
American heart association and British heart foundation are really talking rubbish. Avoid both and the likes.
You said before is good protein
Hard to believe anyone would think there was protein in broccoli. Most of these were the same so clearly not protein, is this confusion due to misinformation or just plain ignorance?
Wow- I thot almond butter was a good source of Protien -
Please it's not protein!
When has 🥦 been considered a protein? 😂
You'd be surprised!
It’s always the same
Eggs very high protein. Eat 4 a day 👌
Chicken
Fish
Nuts
Greek yoghurt
Salmon
Chick peas
At the end of the day is eat in moderation eat protein to avoid to eat Moore and move move move. Walk or exercises
It’s alway the same
Water don’t forget helps to drink a glass of water before meal
Scoop protein powder helps in a smooth with a banana or berries
Voila 💃🏻😊
At the end of the day
Is eat less eat healthy and move Moore 💃🏻
I love routine, but meat and eggs for me, walk and lift heavy stuff now and again. Eat less than what though? That part always stumps me. Have to eat a proper amount for your needs.
Peanut butter is still an excellent source of protein. Two tablespoons contain 8 grams of protein, which is about 16 percent of the amount of protein you need daily. Approximately 10 to 35 percent of your daily caloric intake should come from protein, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
did you watch the video? Quantity is not everything, quality matters more
Did you not watch the actual video?
The protein in peanut butter is poorly absorbed
I love how confidently incorrect you are.
Lov peanut butter...but dont trust the CDC.
Everyone knows its all about calories in and calories out! All I need to know is how many dunkin donuts does it take to get all the recommend daily allowance of quality protein?
OK troll.
lolz
Both a sad and happy day when I realized there was nothing in Dunkin Donuts that I should be buying and ingesting.
You can almost see the bones in your face hon.
