    I really appreciate you enlightening us in this because I’m always thinking I don’t get enough protein in my OMAD but I incorporate a leafy green salad full of nuts and seeds, avocado, then I follow up with a lean meat or fatty fish but I still felt like I was lacking in protein. Maybe I’m getting more than I thought I was!

    Im largely plant based, but not vegan. I had a vegan friend who said he ate a lot of avocado for protein. It's SO low. It's primarily fat, good fat, but fat. I tried to convince him to eat more beans and tempeh but he was mainly a junk food vegan. He didn't get it. As for me, as I approach 70 and my protein requirements increase, I'm including egg whites and salmon again. I also add some pea protein to my steel cut oats.

    I had often heard it said that rice and beans together make a complete protein - are there some proteins that just miss being complete, and we can combine them with a complimentary food? For example, I'm wondering about collagen powder with pumpkin seeds or chia seeds to supply the missing tryptophan, things like that. Thanks.

    Ben Bikman has brought up a big problem with consentrated plant protein powders. The concern is that as you concentrate the protein from the large volume of vegetables, you also concentrate other elements of the veggies... such as heavy metals, the amount of lead in a bowel of peas is irealavant, but the lead in 100,000 peas you're eating in half a cup is far more conserning....

    You can also combine two incomplete sources of protein, e.g. rice and beans, to create a good complete protein with all the essential amino acids.

    • @AutumnBates
      @AutumnBates  Рік тому +3

      You can protein combine, but you really need to make sure you're taking a look at the amount of amino acids (not just the types). I broke this down in extreme detail - along with the studied protein combinations with the highest DIAAS scores - with this blog post: www.autumnellenutrition.com/post/the-best-high-protein-foods-for-weight-loss-your-complete-guide-full-food-list

  • @namrofni6236

    I calculated my protein requirements from the other video and it's 123g. So is 123g the weight of the actual meat or just the protein content that should be in it?

    • @celticlass8573
      @celticlass8573 Рік тому +5

      It's actual protein. So for example large eggs have 6g of protein, while an egg will be much heavier. I just weighed one I have, and the egg itself weighs 57g. If you have 3 eggs for breakfast, that's about 18g of protein. So if you were using meat, you'd need to figure out how much meat for the amount of protein you need to eat. 85g of chicken breast has about 26g of protein.

    Peanut butter is still an excellent source of protein. Two tablespoons contain 8 grams of protein, which is about 16 percent of the amount of protein you need daily. Approximately 10 to 35 percent of your daily caloric intake should come from protein, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
