Great videos! I also use much the same method for clearing patios, but I do suggest to clients that they pour boiling hot water with a little salt in it, on the spots where the weeds used to be. It makes it MUCH easier to control everything (but I only recommend this for paved areas). The only way to get rid of weeds in garden beds, is do it manually. There is no other way around it. Just found you and am so delighted! Learning the plant names and seeing them at the same time makes all the knowledge stick!! My mom would have been over the moon watching you. She was quite the gardener herself. You have truly made my day! God bless you and your family!
That's a lovely comment, I'm glad you're enjoying it so far. Thanks for watching 😊 it's really appreciated. This is how I've always made plant knowledge stick, there are so many it feels impossible to remember sometimes. So, years and years ago, I worked on one plant at a time 😂 and I'm still going now 😁 Thanks again, best wishes 🙏 Martin.
Hi there. I grow my lavender under my clothesline. I have to cut back through the woody bits or it would catch on my washing. Good to see you got there before the brambles really took over. The South Island is 'enjoying' some equinoxal antarcticalesque weather, makes a change from the wild fires, now extinguished.
Haha, I used to do the same thing. And thyme also, it was very cheap clothes freshener 😁 I'm glad the fires are finally over, wow, they seemed to be going on for a while. I hope you stayed safe. As always, thank you. Your English gardening buddy Martin.
Wonderful! I love how you reposition the primrose that self seed. I have a hard time keeping powered tools working, so I tend to garden the old fashioned way. That means I use a knife with a hook on the end in the cracks of my sidewalk in front of my house. I didn't know anyone knew what they were, anymore! I tend to edge beds with a flat shovel, since I don't have a half moon edger. You did a lovely job!
Haha, a person after my own heart 😇. I love my old-fashioned hand tools, there just so much more effective 😊 and far better exercise 💪 If I didn't need the speed power tools give, I'd never use them. P.s a shovel would work fine, use what you got....that's what I say 😁 Thanks for the comment Martin.
Exzellent. Finally someone who does not just cut everything off and throw it away, like many „gardeners“ here on the internet. Everything was beautifully done, with feeling and understanding. I m looking forward to more Videos. Many greetings from Germany from a great garden lover.
Oh 😊 thank you very much. That was a lovely comment to read. It's very much appreciated. Many greetings right back to you, my friend. Best wishes, from Nottingham. P.s should be two more videos next week, one of them is a beautiful nature garden. I hope you like it 🤞and the other one was a very messy pressure washing job 😂
Martin, I really like how carefully yet thoroughly you attend to your garden work. Since you asked - I find very hot water is effective with weeds in gravel or on brick/stone work; it 'fries' the roots! Watching from NH in USA.
Greetings, New Hampshire 😊👍 thanks for the comment. Hot water definitely seems to be a favorite in the comments. I love improving myself with learning from others, so I appreciate it 🙏 All the best from Nottinghamshire. Martin.
At 94 years old, he's best to leave the heavy work to others and just enjoy his garden. He definitely had the luck of the draw in that his daughter called you! I don't know if it's a better method but I've seen an English site where he power washes & then sands. You did great work with a terrific result. Love from a Canadian subscriber.
@@martinthegardenguy Hello, Martin, I don't do that much anymore, I've been here for 67 years, you don't have that much strength anymore, and there aren't people to work with, unfortunately the unemployed are almost better off than those who are working
Thank you 😊 I'm glad you enjoyed the video. You're right about the garden, it would have been wonderful at one point. But I'm on a mission to bring it back 😁
I lay black plastic under the concrete tiles on top of the sand, it takes years for soil to build. Up in the cracks and for weeds to grow . Love your work😊
Sounds like it should work very well 👍 it's awesome that you invest the time to keep the patio weed free 😁 I wish I was that thorough 😂 I'm more of a " cut corners now, regret it later" kind of guy 😅 Thanks for the comment 😊 truly appreciated. Martin.
Love the way you worked in this garden; it is looking so good! Wonderful to see this garden of older plants getting divided and replanted and the edging and patio - the love the previous gardeners put in, now paying into the future. I hope Frank can go out and enjoy his new vista!
Oh yes, me too. He says he'll be out and about as soon as the weather warms up a bit. Which will hopefully give me time to finish off before this happens 😁🤞
Great start there mate, already looks a lot different. Hope your keeping busy, and not having to much rain! Been raining here constant, just need a break with it now. 👍
I'm good, thanks, mate. Pretty much the same here with the weather, I'm dashing out while its dry....which isn't often. Looks a bit better next week 😁🤞 Works starting to pile up, I hope you're getting on ok, buddy?
Hello from USA Georgia 🎉❤ I loved your video and personally as well as your hard work and care for plants. I appreciate you helping anyone who needs it but most of all the elderly ❤. I love working in my yard and I noticed you useing tools I don't know about like the weed puller and the tool for edging around borders and the pavement areas. I use a edger that is electric and or battery powered but your tool was fascinating to me. I may try it out 😊 I liked how you replanted some extra plants that needed to be spread out. I also enjoyed your talking in the video explaining things and tools etc. Fabulous job so far and I look forward to your revist to this beautiful garden ❤. It's just so cute. I have subscribed, I don't want to miss your videos and I will watch the others you have as well. Take Care and until next time I see you 🙋
Wow, that comment was so nice that I read it twice 😊😁 Hopefully, I'll finish this garden off for him next week. 🤞 But I'll definitely do another video showing this. Yes, I love my edging shears 😅 it does seem like they aren't used much in the U.S. as I have loads of comments about them. There's a link in the description if that helps you find them. Thanks so much for the comment, it's very much appreciated. Best of luck in your garden. All the best Martin.
@@martinthegardenguy Thanks for the info about edging sheers. I have not seen them where I shop for yard tools but I could have overlooked them as well lol. I am sure I can order online as well 😁. Lot's of rain here and I am not complaining because it's better than hardly no rain which is terrible we have all endured around the world at times, but grass and bushes etc were trimmed last Wednesday and already grass needs cutting again lol. My favorite yardwork is the trimming of trees and bushes, plants and my flowers I take care of . I also help people in need my neighbors and friends at times it's a good feeling. Anyway have a wonderful week and I will catch you next time. Stay hydrated always.
Yes indeed, I've not used salt for many years. It's a little too permanent for me. But I've been meaning to use the viniger based ones for ages 😁 It's certainly on my list of garden ideas to test out. Thanks for the comment. Martin.
Another way to get weeds out of a patio is to use a mixture of cleaning vinegar, water, a bit of dish soap, and a bit of salt into a sprayer. If you put a tarp down around the bottom of any tree or shrub that you are pruning, it makes it much easier to pick up the clippings afterwards, by simply rolling up the tarp.
I hope so 🙏 😊 he mentioned he likes relaxing in there on the warmer days. I'll be getting it finished off soon, so he'll be even more inclined to get out 👍 Thanks Martin.
Thanks for the comment. I will always do what I can for veterans, among many others who need help. Especially retired hero's like Frank 👍 Thanks again Martin.
Great job 👍👍 l think to top the job off, having the pavers pressured washed would bring it all together. Love the accent 😁😁 Watching from Australia. A good size yard
Haha, thank you Carolyn 😊 very nice thing to say about my accent. Personally, I've always thought I sound a bit rough and common 😂 so thank you. I totally agree about the pressure wash. Great idea, it'll also make it safer for him to walk on 👍 Thank you Australia, best wishes from Nottinghamshire. Martin.
Me to 😊 hopefully I'll get chance to finish off his garden soon and get some more plants in for him. He does love the garden a lot, although he's not keen on the gardening side of things 😊 he's ridiculously fit and healthy for his age. Thanks again Martin
Haha, yeah, it was very satisfying. Albeit a bit puzzling 😂 I've never had a dandelion come out as easy before. P.s. West Virginia must be a lovely place to garden 😁 Thanks for the comment. Martin
Oh hi 👋 Part two is the pressure washing video that's already been released on my channel. I'll be filming part 3 next week 😊 which is finishing everything else off 😂 Hope the weather gets better. Thanks for the comment 👍 Martin
Oh, thank you 😊 although I'm not sure I could chop everything down. Certainly without a very good reason. I love plants too much 😂 I do have to sometimes, I just end up crying behind my eye protectors 😅 Thanks for watching 👍 Martin.

Thank you, my friend 👍 much appreciated. I've often wondered what it would be like working in Australia. I went to Perth one time, and it was so hot, I couldn't imagine working outside 😅 It's was hard enough work sitting in the pub and drinking 😁 Sydney was very beautiful, though. How'd you get on with all the creepy crawlies?
That small garden and yard has so much potential! It would be lovely if someone could pick up where you left off and really bring out it's true possibilities! Looking much better at this point.
Yeah, I agree. It'll be a lovely little space by the time I've finally finished what I intend to do. And he's asked me to go back and keep it in order, so I guess it'll be down to me 😊😁

I've had that tattoo for over 20 years, and you're the first to get it right 😂 well done. 👍 Gold star to you 😁 P.s thanks for watching. I hope you enjoyed the video.
Great job. Loved seeing you spread out the primrose. Another way to weed a patio like that one is to pressure wash it. It needs it anyway, so you would be doing both at one time!
Oh indeed 😁 I assume you haven't seen the video where I pressure wash this man's patio? 😅 it's only been on my channel for a few days. Hope you get a chance to check it out. Martin
@martinthegardenguy actually this is the first video of yours I've seen! It came through my feed and I decided to watch it. I will go and look for the pressure washing video. You asked the question about how else could you weed the patio, and I've seen others use the pressure washer instead of the weed eater. Not saying you should do that, just commenting. Thanks for replying! New subscriber!
It was a great suggestion 👍 😁 it worked a treat as well. Although it got very mucky 😂 Thanks for your comment Very much appreciated All the best Martin.
I'm really glad you like it, I think I'd struggle doing it any other way. I don't even like cutting down long grass 😂 never mind flowers. Unfortunately, though, I do have to, on occasion 😥 not very often though, thankfully.
Thank you for sharing your work with us. I wish we had weeds, but we have: bushes (thanks to the squirrels) and could start a tree nursery. Nah, seriously - the footpath around our garden gets cleaned once a week. We've hired a service to come and clean or shovel snow depending on the time of year. And the plants that push their way through the patio gaps are pretty things like bluebells or hollyhocks. They are allowed to grow there. 😉
Haha, I know what you mean. I look after several places where squirrels do this. One client of mine even grew a hazel woodland with all the nuts they had buried and forgot about. He had me dig them up and pot them on as saplings. Your garden sounds very well kept 😁 Thanks for the comment. Martin.
Love this garden and how you are getting it ready for spring 😊. That time you put into the flowerbeds really does payoff. We’re waiting on our plumeria trees to get leaves again but our lemon and grapefruit trees are absolutely full. If So Cal could keep getting our normal rainfall again it would be so nice. Meanwhile I know you’ve had so much rain this winter. Looking forward to your follow up video. 😊
Oh wow, plumeria flowers are amazing. You're very lucky to be able to grow grapefruit and lemons 😁 I'd love to grow them. Unfortunately, not here in the UK, though. Not properly anyhoo. There are some patio lemon trees available, but the small yields aren't worth it. Thank you so much for the comment. Best of luck in your garden this year. Martin.
Wishing your client many years of good health. He sounds remarkable and has a beautiful garden. You did a lovely job on it. Brambles are violent in everything they do, their growth, their spread, their invasive nature and their sharp thorns then they reward us with their pretty flowers and the fruit for the birds, insects and humans. It’s a true love/hate relationship for me as I love the jam from the berries but the plant is a nightmare to deal with. Whenever I cut it back I feel guilty about taking it away from the creatures who need it. I’m sure it grows back to ten times its original size (I doubt it does really). Maybe I have been cutting it back at the wrong time of year but I’m sure I’ve varied that to no avail. Ah well xx
Haha, yes indeed it's a love/hate relationship 😅 I myself only love them for one month of the year, when me and the kids go picking 😁 You are right, though, a great plant for many creatures big and small. But never worry about cutting them back and depriving wildlife. They are (by nature) a plant of wild/unused spaces and never really do that well in a garden. They just like popping up to annoy everyone now and again 😂 I love how they like to root in the most difficult places to actually get to, and pull them out by the root. Anyway, thank you for the comment. Best wishes Martin.
Oh wow, I'm glad you're enjoying it. I make ls it totally worthwhile 😊 I'm still figuring out a few things about filming, but hopefully it'll only get better 🤞 Thanks again, such a lovely comment Martin.

Awesome 👌 👍 I can't wait to give it a go. Fortunately, I've got plenty of weeds to test it out on 😂
Just found you and am so delighted!
So, years and years ago, I worked on one plant at a time 😂 and I'm still going now 😁
Thanks again, best wishes 🙏
Martin.
And thyme also, it was very cheap clothes freshener 😁
I'm glad the fires are finally over, wow, they seemed to be going on for a while.
I hope you stayed safe.
As always, thank you.
Your English gardening buddy
Martin.
I love my old-fashioned hand tools, there just so much more effective 😊 and far better exercise 💪
If I didn't need the speed power tools give, I'd never use them.
P.s a shovel would work fine, use what you got....that's what I say 😁
Thanks for the comment
Martin.
I have a feeling if we knew each other in real life, we would be good friends. Like souls.@@martinthegardenguy
You can see what a beautiful garden the owner has. What a wonderful thing to help him maintain it like you did!
Oh, yes. It's a lovely little garden 😊 it's certainly one of my happy places 😂
Thank you for the comment 👍
Martin.
Wish you lived next door. We oldies all need a gardener like you.
If I did love next door, I would be honored to come and help you out 😊👍
😊
Martin, I really like how carefully yet thoroughly you attend to your garden work. Since you asked - I find very hot water is effective with weeds in gravel or on brick/stone work; it 'fries' the roots! Watching from NH in USA.
Greetings, New Hampshire 😊👍 thanks for the comment. Hot water definitely seems to be a favorite in the comments.
I love improving myself with learning from others, so I appreciate it 🙏
All the best from Nottinghamshire.
Martin.
At 94 years old, he's best to leave the heavy work to others and just enjoy his garden. He definitely had the luck of the draw in that his daughter called you! I don't know if it's a better method but I've seen an English site where he power washes & then sands. You did great work with a terrific result. Love from a Canadian subscriber.
very good job love greats from a german gardener
Greetings Germany, I'm glad you liked the work 😊👍
Best of luck for the coming season.
Martin.
@@martinthegardenguy Hello, Martin, I don't do that much anymore, I've been here for 67 years, you don't have that much strength anymore, and there aren't people to work with, unfortunately the unemployed are almost better off than those who are working
It's not that different here, my friend.
I do hope your health improves, though 👍 take care of yourself.
Best wishes
Martin.
Very evident this was once a well loved and well cared for garden. Excellent job!
Love your work😊
Sounds like it should work very well 👍 it's awesome that you invest the time to keep the patio weed free 😁 I wish I was that thorough 😂 I'm more of a " cut corners now, regret it later" kind of guy 😅
Thanks for the comment 😊 truly appreciated.
Martin.
Bless you for helping him. No to chemicals.
Indeed 😁 I couldn't imagine it coming up any better if I'd have used any.
Thanks 😊
What a stunning little garden. So nice of you to take such good care of it. Also I must comment on the beautiful soil. I am an avid gardener. 😊
Well spotted 👍 you are right. The soil was very nice indeed 😊
Thank you for the comment.
Best of luck with your gardening.
Martin
Love the way you worked in this garden; it is looking so good! Wonderful to see this garden of older plants getting divided and replanted and the edging and patio - the love the previous gardeners put in, now paying into the future. I hope Frank can go out and enjoy his new vista!
Oh yes, me too. He says he'll be out and about as soon as the weather warms up a bit. Which will hopefully give me time to finish off before this happens 😁🤞
Nice job! I love all of the brick work and pathways cleaned up! You can tell with the daffodils and short shrubbery it was nice at one time!
Looks great Martin hope you have a good season and not too much rain😊
Oh, thank you, me to 🤞I remain hopeful 😂 best of luck to you also.
Thanks again
Martin.
I love this job, I hope you continue to develop
Thank you 😊
Very kind of you.
Martin.
Excellent job.
Thank you 😊 🙏
Beautiful solar lit garden ornament!
Oh yes, it was indeed. I'll probably find a few more things on my next visit. It's like garden archeology 😂
Thanks Sharon 👍
Martin.
I love how you manicured this garden,…lovely! ❤
Thank you 😊 🙏
Truly appreciated
Martin.
Great start there mate, already looks a lot different. Hope your keeping busy, and not having to much rain! Been raining here constant, just need a break with it now. 👍
I'm good, thanks, mate. Pretty much the same here with the weather, I'm dashing out while its dry....which isn't often. Looks a bit better next week 😁🤞
Works starting to pile up, I hope you're getting on ok, buddy?
Hello from USA Georgia 🎉❤
I loved your video and personally as well as your hard work and care for plants.
I may try it out 😊
I liked how you replanted some extra plants that needed to be spread out. I also enjoyed your talking in the video explaining things and tools etc.
Fabulous job so far and I look forward to your revist to this beautiful garden ❤. It's just so cute. I have subscribed, I don't want to miss your videos and I will watch the others you have as well.
Take Care and until next time I see you 🙋
Wow, that comment was so nice that I read it twice 😊😁
Hopefully, I'll finish this garden off for him next week.
All the best
Martin.
@@martinthegardenguy
Thanks for the info about edging sheers.
Nice one Martin .👍
You can use vinegar, boiling hot water or table salt in the cracks vs. chemicals.
Yes indeed, I've not used salt for many years. It's a little too permanent for me.
But I've been meaning to use the viniger based ones for ages 😁
It's certainly on my list of garden ideas to test out.
Thanks for the comment.
Martin.
What a lovely garden, spring has sprung! 😍
Oh, it has indeed, I'm like a kid in a sweet shop this time of year 😅
Thank you for the comment 👍 😊
Martin
Another way to get weeds out of a patio is to use a mixture of cleaning vinegar, water, a bit of dish soap, and a bit of salt into a sprayer. If you put a tarp down around the bottom of any tree or shrub that you are pruning, it makes it much easier to pick up the clippings afterwards, by simply rolling up the tarp.
Absolutely lovely watching your video. Great gardening Martin. You really enjoy your job. Bless you.
Thank you, Diane. Indeed, I do love my job 😊 I'm very lucky.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, hopefully many more on the way.
Take care
Martin
Since I have found your videos, I really enjoy watching any of them. I like the way you approach gardening.
Nice job Martin, Frank can enjoy sitting there in his garden in the fine weather!
I hope so 🙏 😊 he mentioned he likes relaxing in there on the warmer days.
I'll be getting it finished off soon, so he'll be even more inclined to get out 👍
Thanks
Martin.
Thank you for looking out for Veterans...
Thanks for the comment.
I will always do what I can for veterans, among many others who need help. Especially retired hero's like Frank 👍
Thanks again
Martin.
Love the garden. Thank you for telling us about the plants. Excited for the next one. Great job. ❤
What a lovely thing to do. He will love sitting and relaxing while looking out at his garden. Thank you ❤
Oh, I hope so 😁🤞
Thanks for the comment 👍
Very much appreciated.
wow brilliant !!
Thank you 😊 🙏
Most kind of you.

Great idea, it'll also make it safer for him to walk on 👍
Thank you Australia, best wishes from Nottinghamshire.
Martin.
Would love to see this garden in full bloom. Lovely job.
Me to 😊 hopefully I'll get chance to finish off his garden soon and get some more plants in for him.
He does love the garden a lot, although he's not keen on the gardening side of things 😊 he's ridiculously fit and healthy for his age.
Thanks again
Martin
Just loved the transformation...you are so kind❤
Oh, thank you 😊
It's very kind of you to say.
I appreciate it 🙏
Loved seeing that dandelion being pulled! You are the best may need you in WV USA IN A FEW YEARS😉
Haha, yeah, it was very satisfying. Albeit a bit puzzling 😂 I've never had a dandelion come out as easy before.
P.s. West Virginia must be a lovely place to garden 😁
Thanks for the comment.

P.p.s love your videos 😊👍
@@martinthegardenguy you watch me too? Thanks for taking the time I’m your busy day!! 😎
excited to see part 2. Thank you for helping this gentleman out!
Oh hi 👋
Part two is the pressure washing video that's already been released on my channel.
I'll be filming part 3 next week 😊 which is finishing everything else off 😂
Hope the weather gets better.
Thanks for the comment 👍
Martin
I’m impressed you actually prune and weed out leaving a lovely garden instead of cutting everything away.
Oh, thank you 😊 although I'm not sure I could chop everything down. Certainly without a very good reason. I love plants too much 😂
I do have to sometimes, I just end up crying behind my eye protectors 😅
Thanks for watching 👍
Martin.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate this lovely comment. 😊

Nice work Martin! From an Englishman working as a gardener in Sydney Australia 🇦🇺 🏴 ❤
Thank you, my friend 👍 much appreciated.
I've often wondered what it would be like working in Australia. I went to Perth one time, and it was so hot, I couldn't imagine working outside 😅
It's was hard enough work sitting in the pub and drinking 😁 Sydney was very beautiful, though. How'd you get on with all the creepy crawlies?
using 90 degree hedge shears to start the edge like that is genious
That small garden and yard has so much potential! It would be lovely if someone could pick up where you left off and really bring out it's true possibilities! Looking much better at this point.
Yeah, I agree. It'll be a lovely little space by the time I've finally finished what I intend to do.
And he's asked me to go back and keep it in order, so I guess it'll be down to me 😊😁
@@martinthegardenguy That is Awesome! Thank You Sir!
Thank Him for his service.
Great garden and looks good, good luck 😮 Frog soon Martin 🐸😉😉😉 have a wonderful day 🇩🇰

Thank you

Well thank you very much for that lovely comment.

That dandelion that you pulled was very satisfying. It's usually hard to get all the roots.
Haha, yeah. I'll never get another one like that 😅 they are normally a nightmare.
Lovely to see and inspiring me to get out in my garden
Excellent 👍 😊 I'm glad I've inspired you. Best of luck in your garden.
Thanks

Love watching your gardening videos! That dandelion root . . .
Haha, thank you. Honestly, I've never had that happen before with a dandelion. Normally, there a complete pain in the bum to take out 😂
It was very strange 😁
Thanks for the comment.
Martin.
Great job. Especially with the wedding
I love your "Martin" binary code tattoo!!! I love tattoos and I'm a coder, so this was icing on the cake for me!
I've had that tattoo for over 20 years, and you're the first to get it right 😂 well done. 👍
Gold star to you 😁
P.s thanks for watching.
Although it got very mucky 😂
Thanks for your comment
Very much appreciated
All the best

I love the real gardening, not just slash and trash😊
I'm really glad you like it, I think I'd struggle doing it any other way.
I don't even like cutting down long grass 😂 never mind flowers.
Unfortunately, though, I do have to, on occasion 😥 not very often though, thankfully.
You are the man - what a great job mate - love it👌
Thank you 😊 🙏 I'm glad you enjoyed it.
It was a real pleasure to help Frank out, he's an absolute diamond 😁
It's the first video of yours I am seeing and I really like all the advice you give like lavender and primulas. Good job.
Oh, cool, I'm really glad you liked it 😊. I also really appreciate the comment.
Best of luck gardening 👍
Martin.
Your garden sounds very well kept 😁
Thanks for the comment.
Martin.
Really enjoyed your video, had to subscribe!👍👏👏

Ah well xx
Haha, yes indeed it's a love/hate relationship 😅 I myself only love them for one month of the year, when me and the kids go picking 😁
You are right, though, a great plant for many creatures big and small. But never worry about cutting them back and depriving wildlife. They are (by nature) a plant of wild/unused spaces and never really do that well in a garden. They just like popping up to annoy everyone now and again 😂
I love how they like to root in the most difficult places to actually get to, and pull them out by the root.
Anyway, thank you for the comment.
Best wishes
Martin.
I just found your channel. I love love love it ! ! Great job and thank you for all you do .
