When you've got so much to do but you just stop and watch this banger of a compilation straight through... Thank you for this - it's not even my birthday.
I love that Martin and Paul started out together doing Godspell in Toronto and kept on doing musical bits together each time Martin was on The Late Show or Late Night.
I was blessed enough to see Godspell in 1972 in Hamilton Ontario (I'm from there) It was so incredible I'll never forget it. The original cast. Who knew here in 2024 people still talk about it! It really blew my mind. I was only 15 years old. Crazy
I dont know if you reas the youtube comments Mr.Letterman, but please stay healthy and live forever. You and Johnny Carson are my favorite hosts, nobody can come close to you two. Please keep uploading videos every week, it keeps us entertained and happy in this crazy world we live in today. God bless you David Letterman!
If the NBC show is part of this, one guest carried Dave through the first couple of years making him relevant. Jay Leno. Without JL’s kickstart would there even be the long run for DL? Who knows.
@@NetCerpher Wayyy too many recurring guests to make that claim. I always liked Richard Simmons myself but he became more a gem as time went on. Johnny had a falling out with Joan so perhaps same as DL and JL. Rarely does a talent come along without some influence ("standing on the shoulder of giants") Young comedians, their egos & ambitions, their agents, their insecurities towards their future careers; sounds like a combustible situation. In any case 40 years is going to cause some polishing of the history on either side. I personally don't like what JL did to Conan and DL's opinion of JL, to this day, is more honed than either of ours could be.
When these shows were on, we just took it for granted, cause there's another one on tomorrow (carson, letterman, and Craig ferguson) I'm 55, watching this now makes me feel bad and good at the same time, cause this doesn't exist anymore. These guys have been on TV since the 70s and still today. God bless em
"You're looking so much like Johnny Depp, I thought you were Skeet Ulrich." Probably heard this 20 times before and still belly laugh. Thanks, you sure know your audience!
My favorite guest of all time. I just love him. His attitude towards everything that's happened to him is worth paying respect to. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
When Steve Martin dies. Steve has a great incentive to keep going 😀😀 Love Martin! "As I was riding over in the taxi...because you wouldn't send a car..."
Sleepless in LA tonight. Then I came across this. Now I’ll never get to sleep! I’ve long felt that Martin Short was one of the best talkshow guests ever. Have been loving him on the brilliant “Only Murders in the Building” for three seasons now. Miss you, Dave! You have always been an original! People watched Johnny for comfort, you for excitement! 📺😂❤
Watch Marty's interview (as Jimmy Kimmel guest host) of Selena Gomez from June 26, 2024. It is perhaps the loveliest interview I have ever seen, in that they both obviously love each other.
Now this was unexpected treat: a bunch of highlights of the great Martin Short and the man is still with us! (... and here's hoping it'll be years before this comment is inevitably outdated).
Martin Short does this amazing thing with his face sometimes..... like, he'll slow down his microexpressioning on purpose and like... his eyes just have this weird hang-time to them. He does this a lot in Clifford.... he's doing that exact same thing at 7:50. "Look at me like a human boy!" -Grodin
SCTV. 1978. The Twenty Minute Work Out. Toronto. Pickering. Scarborough Bluffs. John Candy. And everything after that. Fantastic to see the greatest, always. The compilation was perfection. Well, it can only be the one, the only, Martin Short. So good to see Paul, tonight. What an understatement. Riveting. All of it. I see Barbara has stepped away from her duties, again. Has she taken Mary with her?
One of the greatest talk show guests of all time.
Very different styles of humor, but for me Martin Short and Norm Macdonald are the two best talk show guests of all time.
An entire years worth of entertainment in 24 minutes, 19 seconds.
Where else but here!
I love Martin Short whenever I see him. He always makes me smile.
Everyone should be able to enjoy life as much as Martin Short appears to on talk shows.
Martin Short is just pure dynamite anytime he's on. I always loved his appearances with Dave. His Katharine Hepburn impression is so funny.
Martin Short. What a unique and special talent. He raised the bar. A comedic treasure. Thanks for this video.
One of the crown jewels of comedy!
Martin Short--pound for pound-the greatest overall entertainer since Sammy Davis Jr. People like Martin only show up like once in a generation.
Get a......LIFE.
@@mr.blackhawk142show me on the doll where Martin touched you. 😂
Well, yeah ... pound for pound he has everyone covered... he's a little fella !! - he just wouldn't weigh that much !!
I see what you did there.
When you've got so much to do but you just stop and watch this banger of a compilation straight through... Thank you for this - it's not even my birthday.
Best talk show guest of ALL time! Always prepared. Always hilarious. The consumate performer.
So funny! Martin Short is an international treasure!
Somebody give this guy an award, he's my favorite!
I love Martin Short. Such a uniquely talented guy.
I loved his SCTV days. Marty is so multi-talented. Really enjoyed this. Thanks Dave!
Short is a masterful performer with incredible energy. Always a treat.
Martin Short is the consummate entertainer. As a fellow Canadian, I’m so proud of him.
Agreed - from an Aussie - thanks for sharing him with the rest of the world !!! 🙂
PLEASE, PLEASE do a SUPER-EDIT where we get ALL the songs in full!!!
He seems like a mighty fine fellow, I must say.
He’s no Pat Sajak, though!
I see what you did there.
Ed!
I read this in the voice
I love that Martin and Paul started out together doing Godspell in Toronto and kept on doing musical bits together each time Martin was on The Late Show or Late Night.
@@Zman71389 - Agreed. I've read it and it's a wonderful memoir.
There is a documentary in the works about that show. Both Paul and Martin talk about Godspell in their autobiographies. Both books are excellent.
The amount of talent on that "Godspell" run in Toronto is mind-boggling.
I was blessed enough to see Godspell in 1972 in Hamilton Ontario (I'm from there)
It was so incredible I'll never forget it. The original cast.
Who knew here in 2024 people still talk about it! It really blew my mind. I was only 15 years old. Crazy
I have been a Martin Short fan since SCTV. Comedy legend, should get a Mark Twain award.
Totally agree. Can we do something as fans in this regard?
Darn you, I saw this and immediately had to check if he'd died. You need to change the title to "The Best of Martin Short Who is not Dead Yet"
letterman scaring the folks
That’s why it says The Best of. That doesn’t mean someone died.
Personally would have preferred "Remembering Martin Short"
Same! Despite the slightly different vernacular, I had to check.
😂

Once Short came out with the left-handed compliment "DAVE! You look so...boyish! For a minute I thought you were K.D. Laing!" That killed me.
If I had to pick the single best Letterman guest of all time, it would have to be the fabulous Mr. Short.
For me Norm MacDonald is definitely up there as well.
Richard Simmons. I win!
Also, Robin Williams!

It was so endearing to see how he naturally switched to being sweet and soft spoken when talking about his daughter. Martin Short, what a gem.
As Martin says, “Thanks for Remembering!”

Started watching Letterman in the 80s.....LOVE YOU DAVE
We have to ask, his age or the decade?
Boy, those nurses at the end sure got me excited! Marty is a legend!
No question, Marty is the funniest man alive.
This is the greatest Best of Dave to date. Legendary Dave and Marty. Incredible talent. Thanks for all the laughs and happiness. Wow.
The single greatest talk show guest ever.
Period.
❤
"You're looking so much like Johnny Depp, I thought you were Skeet Ulrich." Probably heard this 20 times before and still belly laugh. Thanks, you sure know your audience!
Marty once told a very funny anecdote about a phone conversation he had with Tony Randall I keep hoping to hear again some time.
Now, Mr. Short is someone I would love to have as a real friend
My favorite guest of all time. I just love him. His attitude towards everything that's happened to him is worth paying respect to. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That is awesome. Martin Short and Steve Martin were always hilarious. You could really see how much Dave enjoyed when they were on.
Did you have a tattoo removed? 🤣🤣🤣
Did you have ANOTHER bypass? 🤣🤣🤣
Have you had a rib removed??
Do you have a NEW chin??
"The one with the unicorns mating"
Everytime im depressed or sad I binge on Martin Short late night appearances and it picks me back up
He may be my favorite celebrity of all time. He has made me laugh for 40 years
Martin Short is ours! We love him! ❤❤❤
Happy 🇨🇦 Day!!
So good. What a trip down memory lane. Martin Short would never ever disappoint. Him, Norm, and Howard Stern always always always delivered.
Short is the chat show GOAT. Others like Norm, Rickles and Nealon come close but Short's prep for every appearance is insane.
More videos like this please! Celebrate the greats while they are still around to see they are loved and appreciated.
like bill Murry, hes been know to tear the stage up in his segments
When is Martin Short going to be presented with the Mark Twain prize for comedy ?
Mark Twain should get the Martin Short prize for comedy
When Steve Martin dies. Steve has a great incentive to keep going 😀😀 Love Martin!
"As I was riding over in the taxi...because you wouldn't send a car..."
Yes, it’s long due !
Martin is above that.
I know that. You don't think I know that?!
I could watch Martin Short on Letterman everyday! Wish we could see them all!
Marty’s one of the best talkshow host guests
Martin is my favorite everything.
Once again, Dave and Paul, you've crystallized my thoughts eloquently.
So fitting that this premieres the day after I binged all of Martin Short on Conan and Fallon.
You're always in for a good time whenever you see Marty on late night shows 😅

I didn’t know it, I couldn’t have guessed it, I wasn’t sure about it.. but whew, I needed that.
What a blessing. Thank you for making this!!!!!🎉🎉🎉
His joke about Paul looking like booth Kojack and Kojack's lollypop is gold!
Marty is a great guy. You guys are so funny, thanks so much, Dave!
Please post MORE, or EVERY, Martin Short interview, song, special in entirety!!!!
If nothing else this is worth watching again just to see Martin Short playing a ventriloquist dummy on Steve Martin's lap.
Thank you so much for making these videos hahahahaha makes my day 😂
So incredibly talented and funny but also humble and gracious...that's Martin Short!
Paul’s actual speaking voice sounds like Dana Carvey doing Bush Sr.
sounds like he just has a root canal done.
The one & only Martin Short - so funny, so talented
I didn't stumble on to this video....I searched it. Martin Short is the king of live improv. and Letterman is the best host to bounce improv off of.
Robin Williams had the same type of energy where he can just take control.
Dave's best guest
OMG.... "you and Leno touring with 'The Odd Couple'"..... 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
(10:18)...."Being a cocky nutmaster that I am"....I'll need to remember that line so I can weave it into some future conversation.
9:24 always cracks me up. Probably the loudest I ever heard Dave laugh at a guest that wasn't Norm MacDonald
What a lovely collection
Martin Short is a North American treasure.
Canadian you mean.
@@Mick-Dempsey Canada is in North America. North America isn’t just the United States. It’s a region.
Martin Short is the greatest!
My favourite line was something like "The work you've had done looks great, I'd suggest 20% more then stop"
Short on Letterman...not much can top that! Love both of them!
Marty Short is multi-talented! Genius!
Marty is just, pure gold !
I LOVE Martin!!! And you too Dave.
The bumpkas bit was hilarious🤣
I saw Steve Martin and Martin Short in Nashville in 2021. Amazed that these guys are still working. Gives us all hope, right?
The Jackie Rogers Jr. moment: “Being the cocky nutmaster I am…”😂

The only person more entertaining than Martin Short is Jiminy Glick.
I ❤ Glick.
What is your beef with the Nazis? 😃 😀 😄
@newtron1 He thinks they're rude. I guess...I guess...
He was the same guy. Martin played that character.
@@danielgerald4551Oh, boy
Thank you Dave thank you Paul thank you Martin do you guys help me so much
Jeez these clip shows are just great.
I can't be the only person who sees titles like this from this channel & immediately Googles to see if that person died, right?
It doesn't help when they say "he was..."
No, I don't. It never occurred to me plus I knew Martin was still alive.
All you've got to do is read one more comment ever to recognize you are not the only one;)
What a nice episode solely for Martin Short, one of my faves!
Martin Short was my very first gateway drug into comedy. Michelle Washington, if you’re out there, like I have to thank you, I must say! ❤😂
Such a talent. Singer, dancer, actor and comedian. From same country as Ryan Gosling. Go figure. 😊 Marty's book is very good read.
Don't be ripping on Ryan Gosling. He can also a very talented........dancer.
Martin "Anything For A Laugh" Short.
miss Dave soooo much. makes me wanna cry.
My respect for these men has gone nowhere but up over the years … great to see them looking so well
That was FANTASTIC!!!
My favorite talk show started watching you guys in 1994 when i came to NYC God Bless 🙏🥊💥🏆
