You only need: S2 Black S20 Black S30 Easy Clean Then you are all set! White/black Spiderpad for really bad paints with S2B Blue Navy Spiderpad with S20B for a one step that removes good amount of scratches. Purple Spiderpad with S2B or S20B for medium scratches Orange pad for finishing with S30. You can actually do S2B with Purple pad as a one step, without holos.
Good info here, I’m about to up my game with polishing. For those who are just starting, John’s video for machine polishing for beginners ( came out about 3 years ago ) is still the easiest, safest and most effective tutorial I’ve ever seen.
Looking forward to the S2 black video, I’m struggling to see where it fits in tbh🤷♂️. S20 black is still my main compound and has been for years, with the purple pad 👍 I get mine from clean and shiny and they are under £10 for the standard pads not the spider ones. Also keep your eye out as I think Koch have a new one step coming to the market in June 😉 Scholls also do a blue pad, it’s between the purple and honey, good for softer paints.
Big fan of the scholl range, can't wait for the review on the s2 black & the s2 shock2cut , s2 black I think is very good probably should be in the one step category in my opinion , I have been waiting for ages for forensic detailing to do this review this chanel just gets better top job jon best detailing Chanel out there.
On some of the scholl marketing material, the enthusiast “E” markings are for hand polishing (enthusiasts without a machine) and the “D” or detailing marks are for machine work. “B” for body shop is suitable for fresh paint work.
S17+ and a green hex pad was my go to for a single stage for years, there abrazives are amazing, only used couple of they're pads in 4 inch but dont really like the cuts in them
Thanks for this video and great timing encouraging me to stick with some of my Scholl Products. One of the most versatile is the S3 Gold. This seems similar to a cutting compound and polish in 1 and finish depends on pad used. On a Carpro Cool Wool/MF hybrid is cuts hard. You can then use the S3 Gold on a polishing pad and shine and clear the light haze after the wool/mf.
The S20 Black is excellent it gets light scratches out and its east to work with obviously on Black cars, but don't ad water because its really hard to buff off, and to finish with a Glaze polish.
Been using s20 with the purple pad and had great results. Looking to buy a finishing polish and pad combo, so I can polish the car every 12 months or so to boost gloss and take out light swirls. I think I will stick with scholl, so this video has come at a great time.
propably they are every concious about material removal during polishing, maybe they aim for the perfect balance between minimal amount of clear coat removal and the desired results, S2orange is for texture leveling. They released shock2cut and S2black in realtive short amount of time for basicaly the same compound, We wait for your reviews : )
im very pleasedyou did this video as i like using scholl polishes and compounds but the naming scheme baffles me especially when multiple products all seem to be very much the same on paper...
I've used S3 Gold, S30 and S40 as a 3 step. Always served me well. I don't like S17 so much because it's not very oily so I cannot work it so much as S3 Gold you can work for days and it won't gunk up your pad.
@@KiranPatel-fk1pg Honestly I cannot see any difference if the car has hard paint. With softer paint you can see the difference when finished with S40 with good lighting.
S2 and S2 Orange is discontinued. No longer manufactured. Ninja pad does not have cooling on the edges, the are specially made for detailers to be able to use the edge on the pad then the will last longer.
Hi Jon thanks for this I,m definitely one step S20 black but yet to get my DAS6pro as out of stock everywhere and not sure whether to use Dr Scholls pads or Chemical Guys for my BMW mineral grey. Good luck with the weight loss, me I was given a new knee 8 weeks ago and I have an exercise bike. Currently I can’t do a full revolution so it looks like a fixed wheel if you get my meaning. Either way it’s just so BORING but now I have the answer, get the iPad out with you chattering on about detailing means I can squeeze another 15 minutes before collapsing so THANK YOU!
Without a doubt a very good range of compounds Jon but as you have shown in this video, it's ridiculously named & so complicated. They really do need to rename the whole line of products, it has always put me off any further purchases beyond S20 Black.
grate review Jon thank you very much , very informative because I got the s3 gold s17+ and s40 but it would have been great for you to give us some alternative pad choices because I only use C.G hex pads and Rupes pads.and at the moment. I just use them like other polishes, stiff pads for the heavy cut polishes working down to softer pads for the finer polishes.

What would be best for a car that has been resprayed, flow coated, then sanded up to 2000 3000 grit. Would I be better with just the s30 for this. Don't want to go the route of stuff like g3 premium, g360 or fast cut ultrafina as fillers etc lol
watch the auto fetish guy use s30.. it looks like all you need, literally. It compounds then polishes down. Just use a cutting or polishing pad depending on the need. It replaces the two step s17+/s40 which you could also do.
Hey Jon! I know I get around the comment sections of your vids and do a lot of shitposting, but I have a legit polishing question. I’ve got a Mazda with incredibly soft paint and the only thing I care about is bringing out the highest level of gloss on my paint I possibly can by polishing, What products should I use, or do you have a video I can watch on it? Thanks for everything I’ve learned a ton from you, I wish I had teachers like you in school - woulda paid more attention. Thank you
mazda paint polishes up lovely. so really whenever your talking about going the extra mile your going to be using the finest polish in any range.. So in this instance its S40. So you get the paint to a good level with S3 to cut away the swirls. Then you switch to a soft pad and use S40. Use small amounts of products and just let the abrasive break down and work. You will hit like a rough cap of gloss, Im actually finding doing multiple sets of refining on paper does not yield that much extra but if you want to want to tear up the rule book you can refine as much as you like really.. You could take something like S40 or Menz sf3800. You could also consider after glossing the paintwork up. using a silica primer polish like Gyeon primer. Thats a nice touch as well... use soft finishing pad like the flex reds.
Any thoughts about their AIO product? A15,....a15+????? I have very small experience to judge,but it seems that have nice cut but i have hard time wipe it off. Thanks John great video again
Hi Jon, just looked back over this video and wondered if you have ever tried W6+ from Scholl? Its written up as a wax glaze and its bloody confusing. Is it solely a wax or is it a glaze like Carpro Essence or Tac System's Total One Essential? Any idea?
Jon, I'm having a hard time finding s20 black in the US, I'm getting ready to tackle a black Porsche Panamera, and from what I read this paint is fairly soft, is there any other one stage polish you would recommend before I seal it?

Hi john ive noticed when using s20 on a green and orange hex pad. I sometimes get little balls of polish flying out. Any tips am i working it too long or using too much and clogging the pad up. Thanks
hey there, its very very hard to say but it sounds like you have spent polish building up on the surface of the pad.. so my tip is stop as soon as this happens and swap to clean new pad. or do a complete clean of this pad with a hose and flush out all the spent product.. sandwich it in a towel, then spin it out on the machine. and go again. And yes less product and shorten the working time for sure. managing any abrasive is important. If you have a thin film of S20 and a clean pad you can literally work that abrasive for ridiculous amounts of time if you keep the heat down..
Sounds like to much product, you need to use the right pad also, if the pad is to soft or to fine it will gum like made and pigtail. I use the purple pad (non spider). Clean and shiny stock them.
The entire Scholl liquids range seems so inefficient to me. There's too many of them, their confusing and their formulas are not great. But I do like a few of their pads. The Universal Pad idea though is starting to follow my vision from 2007. Universal machine pads and far less foams in the range. Like what Rupes has done. From 7 foams down to 3.The spiders increase surface area, a cooling effect is virtually non existant. The spiders can definately deform but can be straightened.
spend a week using all this stuff couple of weeks ago. S0 matting compound not overly keen on, crazy amount of dusting and debry. Really strange the recomendation to use on their orange pad. was not consistent on soft paint. S2 black love it. nice and smooth S3 gold XXL love it same nice and smooth S20 nice stuff but product deposits on the paintwork can be a problem S17 love it S30 love it S40 love it very oily but really nice S2 shock cut not overly keen just a bit grabby to buff and agressive. Mate check out there red ninja pad and blue ninja finishing. very impressive with these. the blue finishing can be a bit stiff for mega soft non OEM paint that marrs easilts. but this red and blue combo is really good and goodness my you can hammer the pads they take a beating like nothing else. I do agree though the numbers are initially confusing, combined with E/D/B ratings for enthusiasts detailers bodyshop etc.. multiple products with same name. But some really good stuff.

Koch chemie red and kamikaze pads are very nice too. Got a soft spot for closed cell. Hydro tech and buff and shine uro cell red and tangerine. Great for forced.
from my experience over the last year, knowing nothihng about polishing, to a full blown addict, i really think you need to stress how importaint pad selection is for polishing. If you want to get cut out of the product, you need a cutting pad...you cant cut clearcoat with a soft pad....even with very agressive abrasives.Especially with a DA. I think you need to do away with DA's and only recommend a forced rotation.

Shock2cut is amazing, I used it after I painted and wet flatted my car with a blue spider pad great correction

they are an emulsion of water and hydrocarbons and glycerein and aluminum oxides, same as most modern abrasives, so you could say water based yes.
