John!! I used your decadent devils food chocolate cake recipe to make my sisters baby shower cakes. For 70 people! I made 10 cakes, layered them and had chocolate fudge ganache in between the layers, with your cream cheese frosting on the outside. I watched your video with each cake batch. And I got 70 compliments that this was the BEST cake they had ever eaten…and the best part…THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME BAKING EVER 🎉❤ you’re the best!!!! I wish I could attach pictures bc I also decorated them like a boss 🎂
RECIPE ALERT!!! If you print the recipe for these Chewy Oatmeal Cookies it says "one large egg" - in the video John says "two large eggs". I made these cookies using the printed recipe and they were dry, awful and crumbly. I bought new ingredients, weighed everything and hoped for greatness. I read through the recipe again and then watched the video again, and there it was. TWO EGGS - not one.
Excellent John! I so appreciate the explanations! Oatmeal cookies are my favorite. You have turned me into a baker and the purchase of a scale has greatly improved my outcome! Thanks!!
When you slide your scale across your counter, I don't know but I get me a nervous tingle down my spine hahaha!!! As always, another fantastic recipe by a fantastic host; thank you very much, John!!!!
John...my mom made the BEST oatmeal cookies and she used instant vanilla pudding in them! They were soft and tasty! I make them every year for Christmas...or any time we get a hankering for them
Dear John - I made these cookies and I put chocolate chips instead of raisins into them and they turned out to be some of the best cookies I’ve ever ever baked!! Thank you so much!! I just purchased your book and I wish you continued success!! ❤
Hi John, thanks for this oatmeal cookie recipe. Tried it last week and it’s perfect. Love everything about it. Used cranberries and toasted pecans. I bake only a third of the recipe at a time and freeze the rest. It freezes really well. Been having fresh cookies all the time and today I’m making another batch. Thanks again!❤
Btw, I also tried your cream puff with diplomat cream, carrot cake, Portuguese egg tart. They’re all wonderful! I was never successful making the cream puff until I tried your recipe with all the necessary instructions on how to make it correctly. Thank you!
My mother always made the oatmeal style chocolate chip cookies, not the plain ones, and to this day it's the only way I like oatmeal. She thought if we were going to have something less healthy then she would make it a bit more healthy by adding oatmeal. She even subbed a half cup whole wheat flour for regular. Every little bit helps. And her add-ins were chocolate chips and coconut. I will try your version, thanks.
I will choose an oatmeal raisin over a chocolate chip cookie any day. Sometimes I leave out the raisins and add toasted pecans and coconut, makes a great cookie if you like coconut
Hello! I love your videos and your recipes. I have a question… a few times, the recipe you do on UA-cam differs from the online written recipe? And which should we follow? This is one of them. Thanks so much for clarifying!
I'm curious too! I was rewatching this to refresh what I need to buy and when I clicked in I realized the recipe was old and this video is new. Ingredients are added and quantities have changed but the recipe online hasn't been updated. For what it's worth I made his OG one from the first video several times and always came out good. So I'll likely just follow that again.
Hi👋 did you make them based on the measurements from the recipe card on the blog? or the measurements stated in the video? cause the amounts (of flour, butter, etc.) are totally different and I don't know which one to use...
This is such a good recipe! I added a change. Instead of butter substituted for 1 apple sauce & a bit of oil. Cut up an apple. Everything else was the same. Chilled in the fridge for an hour, and they are awesome. 😊
My Mother always put raisins in her oatmeal cookies! I hated the raisins, but I’m going to try this with frozen blueberries, or strawberries or whatever. Anything but raisin!!
Okay.. so I feel like EVERY time I'm thinking of something, you release the recipe, lol! 😂 I love it!! I was literally talking about oatmeal cookies this morning!
I made your chocolate chip cookies, seriously the Best I've ever had ! Now watching your oatmeal cookie recipe, I love oatmeal, I will definitely be making these. I plan on buying your cookbooks ❤
Love your videos! I really like that you include the grams in your ingredients for recipes. I have used a scale for many years and have to calculate the grams for most recipes. You do that for us with your recipes and I Thank You. And BTW I do have your cookbook. : )
I’m not a big fan of raisins, so I always make mine with chopped dates. People that say they don’t like oatmeal cookies always end up loving them, lol. Chocolate chip is my least favorite cookie. Thank goodness for oatmeal cookies!
Just the sounds of that makes them my new favorite. 😋 Are you the heir for Pandora? Is that your name meaning? Mine means heavenly falling star. Just bored here. Probably gonna go make these... Take care! 🤙
Hello, this are in my near future! I have all the ingredients on my shopping list! I would like to ask, i just made your peanut butter cookies, they are just fresh out of the oven. I only baked two dozen, and the rest of the dough i wrapped is plastic wrap and shaped it into a log and put it into the freezer. I am not usually as aware that i do not have a snack or a little something sweet after dinner. My question is, can you freeze all cookies doughs like this? I would like to dedicate a day in doing this so i am not caught off guard again. Thank you so much, the smell of peanut butter in the air is heavenly! Have a lovely day!
Oh yeah! That’s just how I like them. I always make them “crispy” for my husband but not this time. I’m making these!! Happy Halloween, everyone!! 🎃💀🕷️👻🎃💀🕷️👻🎃✌️
made this recipe today. They came out well. However, the 280 g of oats I weighted were much more than the 2 cups. I will probably use only 100 g next time. Love your recipes
My husband is having dental problems now and loves oatmeal cookies! This is definitely going on my to bake list! C’mon, what did the commenter call raisins???
Your countertop is LITERALLY room temperature. You feel it's cold because it's obviously colder than 36ºC (body temperature), and it transfers heat really efectively. So, in reality, if you want to heat something quickly from the refrigerator, leaving it on the countertop is actually a good idea.
My Grandma's Oatmeal Cookie recipe calls for soaking the raisins in the beaten egg and vanilla for 30 - 60 minutes before mixing the dough. It makes a big difference!
Raisins are definitely a polarizing ingredient. I'm of the "raisins are disgusting" camp. No amount of rum can make them palatable. Btw, can you make them without an add-in (if you prefer your oatmeal cookies to not have any chunks in them)?
Hello; CAN YOU COOK, A "RECAITO" PASTA SAUCE? I'm diabetic and can't eat marinara sauce ( tomatoes) ALSO: PLEASE BAKE A CAKE, WITH MONK FRUIT.( The same reason, I don't use sugar and artificial sweeteners, leave a bad taste in my mouth) All the best Shaun of NYC🗽
The first time I made oatmeal cookies...they were like concrete! I couldn't handle the embarrassment so I told everyone that they were "lunchbox" cookies. You could throw them in your lunchbox and not have to worry about them falling apart! 😊 I couldn't find a lunchbox big enough to pack a half gallon of milk cuz that's what it took to soak the cookies enough to eat!!
Question: Why not just use all white sugar with a little bit of molasses ? I make my oatmeal cookies with coconut, orange zest and black walnuts. The orange zest goes so well with the black walnuts. They are very chewy. I also add allspice, ginger, cardamom, and nutmeg along with cinnamon.
Instead of raisins, I’d use dried cranberries. Maybe add some white chocolate chips or chunks. Now I’m really curious about Betty’s recipe, and how it’d taste?

I'll have to try it! That's my experience with his tiramisu and key lime pie recipes. They are both a family favorite! ❤
👏👏👏👏very believable 😂

Having a good chocolate cake in your repertoire is gold. Good for you.
I love oatmeal cookies and your idea to soak the raisins in rum is a GREAT idea!!! I will try this recipe!!!
I now, thanks to you, John, can never use a whisk without saying "whisk, whisk, whisk." I think of you fondly every time I bake.

I just want to say how happy I am to have found this channel!!!!! Love this guy.
Me too❤
Huge fan. Even my now 2 year old says “baking” when he wants to sit with me and watch!
I should also say, it’s nice to watch while I breastfeed my 4 month old too. One day we will all be baking using your recipes
So cute 😊
Adorable 🤭♥️

Sounds interesting could you please share your recipe?
Sounds like a lot of extra chemicals that aren’t necessary.
@@Agrillot6hmmm. Good point. Had to think a bit. Does sound delish, so perhaps for special occasions...
@@Agrillot6 I don't understand.

Dried cranberries are an ah-mazing substitute for raisins!
Why did I read that in John's voice? 😆
Does the cranberries has to soak in water too?
Can I soak the cranberries
@@mariatorres6271I never soak mine.
@@mitzisb05 Nor do I soak the raisins. In my opinion, they become soft and mushy, and not at all what I expect in an oatmeal cookie.

I made these today! I didn’t use raisins but I used chopped dates and chopped pecans! They were stellar! Thank you for the inspiration!❤ Yum!❤
My sister would add cinnamon, nutmeg and shredded coconut and pecans to her oatmeal cookies. They were amazing.
All of the above, and chopped dates! Much better than raisins!
