I'm a BMW Fan boy, great lap record 🎉🎉well done BMW M division...
I think BMW would get sub 7 minutes lap records if they work on Aerodynamics. BMW cars already have great mechanical grip so if only they do aerodynamics like the Porsche 992 gt3 rs and the new mustang gtd it will be a great car that will break and hold records for a long time
@@timothy6049 A CTR S Grade did this a second slower. BMW's main competition is Mercedes and Audi, and the RS3 was faster. Despite having AWD, the RS3 weighs less, and is down on power over the M2. This is a second slower than a 500hp Z28 Camaro from 2013 (10 years ago). The M2 weighs 3,800 lbs now, and is basically a SWB M4 with the same weight. Nothing special here.
Is not the oem bucket seat
@@jiraceJealous you're never gonna have one. 😢
@@timothy6049 ahahhahahahah rs3 is 735
Congrats on getting the lap record.
I do have to say, is 1,8 tons considered a compact car now? I feel like there should be a weight limit to what the compact class is.
yeah almost 2 tonnes for what's supposed to compete against Porsche 718 Boxster and the likes of that, really doesn't make sense
@@noah1179 i agree, even though there is a big difference between 2 tons and 1.8 (which is exxagerating a bit already)
Actually do u really know what compact is? It’s about fitting a a lot in a small space, so if it’s weighs even more that means it’s even more compact, definitely makes it a worse car but compact doesn’t mean light weight
@@BMWROYAL perhaps not, but compact classed cars have always meant small (or to the smaller side), nimble and lightweight, let's not lie to ourselves here
@@noah1179 not true watch any videos on compact cars and the last thing they will mention is the weight, what are you even talking about
The turn-in at Ex-Mühle was a tad painful to watch...
Misha can do the same time without helmet and be talking about cars in general. Maybe one second faster😊
An incredibly impressive lap time.
You can really see how well it handles.
Great job BMW M!
Thank you it really shows off it's power! 🙌 🔥
@@BMWM how old is this record? looks like its from march or early april the trees are not green

It handles like shit, the only thing saving this car is the power
all great but too fugly !!!!
I've never seen such a 'easy' lap record haha! The way this guy drives the car almost looks relaxed. Congrats BMW!
A true champ 💪
That's why this is no longer an M2. An M2 is supposed to be a handful to handle - that is its character. This new version is quick but doesn't make it the best. Weighs more than a previous gen M5. BMW have the ingredients all wrong for this latest car (notice I didn't say M2 because its not one).

You can tell a great driver for making time look… easy and fluid between turns. Also great job BMW, for making a car that can be a daily driver AND beat yesterdays super cars.

Nobody meatrides the GTR this hard besides the latinx.
Thanks to Michelin that they make tires to cruise the ship over the Nürburgring.
Was going to say the M2 punches well above its weight....but being a porker, I would say it punches just right.
The suspension work is impressive, very good driving skill by the pilot. 👏👌👍
But the suspension feels like shit on the road exactly because manufacturers like BMW tune the car for Nordschleife lap times and not for every day comfort. I bought a 2020 M2C but the ride was terrible, I sold it after only 5,000 miles. The older M cars were far more comfortable. The Nordschleife lap time tuning is ruining modern sports cars.
@@richbuckinghamdon't buy a f*cking sports car if you want to have a comfortable ride stupid 🤦

Cool, but the weight is absolutely ridiculous for such car. Any plans of making sub 1400kg cars soon?

@hpickettz34 but I don't want Porsche, I want FR platform. Besides, modern Porsches aren't lightweight either.
If they make the same dials as on this video, I’ll get one 😂
For people asking the same question about which record. Please read the description. It’ll help.
How dare you ask people to have common sense and actually read a description to have their question answered. Almost like that is what the description is for. 😂
Still, nonsense!!! This car doesn’t belong to the “compact class segment” in any stretch of the imagination weighting 1,7 ton!
@@flavioc5389when did weight matter when it comes to the DIMENSIONS of a vehicle? It’s compact genius

A vehicle you can pick up in the same configuration from the BMW dealership - wow! Congratulations, M division!
Well done and congratulations on the lap time! 10 seconds or so faster than the F87 M2CS.
Tire size and power are the biggest differences for that lap time. Still a hideous rendition of an M car. I would take an f87 m2 over this a million times over. I own one anyways.
@@mr_squintz_4655sold my f87 for one!

All credits to BMW but you still gotta give it to the Civic Type R, A whole ass 135 HP Down (44%) but only 6 second slower than this as the M2 Pulled a whole 3 seconds Over the Civic on the last straight
Any thoughts about the weight difference? 😉
Google type r nurburgring cheat. It's been pointed out by numerous experts that Honda likely ran a modified car to achieve that time.
The Civic Type R was actually a factory modified Type R S Grade that is stripped in the interior and is lighter than the regular Type R. It doesn't even have an infotainment system. And then you have a Civic that you spent over 50k on.
As these guys said, the civic wasn't stock. The CTR posted within 1 mph of a 400hp PDK Carrera 4S on the long straight. Sounds like a lot of extra boost to me!
Even BMW embarrassed by new M2 look. They used a drawing which does look better than the real thing. @BMW M Sorry for that but previous M2 was too nice!

Don't like the way it looks. Don't like the way it sounds. Don't like the fact it's turbocharged. Don't like the engine reving up to just 6.5k. And most of all, don't like the fact that it weighs more than 1.7 tons! BUT: I have to say, that performance is really impressive.

also, please put the L back into CSL - 1625kg isn't exactly lightweight. The E46 M3 CSL was 1385kg, even that wasn't exactly 'lightweight' and why you're at it, STOP pumping fake audio into cabins, if you make a car that sounds bad, deal with it mechanically.
good job on what you've achieved with the lap, car does look rigid, handles easily and is adequetly powerful enough.
lmao Audi RS3 is slower on grippier Trofeo R tyres
You can clearly see the tires and suspension are doing all the work, and still its even clearer this car is too heavy, if it werent for those cup2’s the car would be understeering all over the place, it doesnt point its nose like any other F generation M model
Im actually not impressed, the 1.8 Tonnes really reveal themselves here. 1.5 Tonnes should be the limit for being considered sporty.
This result is mostly thanks to the nice drivetrain and advancements in tire technology.
Im getting dissapointen in the M series. BMW lost their way, only Porsche is left but Porsche is too expensive for the average guy.
Nice! Shame that that M2 is such an ugly car LOL That front and that blocky Sumo look..... :D Good old 2018 design with that power and handling would be my choice :)
I like that the M2 in the bottom right is looking at the red dot most of the time
So, about the same time as a e46 m3 coupe on cup 2 tyres with the seats removed?
Yup. A 20 year old car.
How is it a compact??? If this is a compact, our Skoda Octavia ist a compact as well, it's 400kg lighter...

Thankfully the car runs better than it looks.
How is this a record? Of any kind? Weak sauce from M.
M stands for "Mid" now.
Not a bad time for a 2 ton car!
Compact?! Ahahahah good joke 😅😅
If only this didn't look like a botched surgery.
Looking at the trees, I see no leaves. So when was this lap driven? Surely not during summer 2023. Maybe March 2023 ??? Why did you wait like 4-5 months to publish it?
Pushing that throttle every corner to get that boat to rotate lol
Sure it performs well, but did you have to make it absolutely butt ugly?
And this with a car you can buy exactly the same from your local dealer. Bravo M!
Need still theses tires PS Cup 2 ;-)

Very impressive. Sacrifice car's weight by adding half of M4's parts and with that ruining the whole idea of the 2 series just to beat a 15-yo 997 is a true testament.
Hats off to the team and the driver, they made a fast car
Fast, yeah.
But REALLY ugly. Holly shit!
I along with many other people do not agree with the way M is going with their designs and just their cars overall, but the M2 is an exception. It looks really weird, but it’s pretty cool. And this lap is very impressive too.

A full lap of 7:38 doesn’t sound too impressive, until you realize that the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 did it in 7:40!
The Murcy never was a fast track car.
You're talking about a 2 decades old car. Nothing is impressive about beating an old shell with old technology
A Mid 2000's (maybe 2006/7) GSX-R 600 did a 7.10 BTG, the equivalent of a 7.30 full lap.
Until you realize that a civic is only 6 seconds slower
Mostly tires made the difference between the Lambo, and @@B__L I think you mean 1 second slower. The Honda CTR S Grade did it in a second slower using the same tire (MPSC2) and some light weighting (probably less than 50lbs), but it really goes to show what 800lbs less weight can do for handling. Audi RS3 was faster too, which says a lot considering it is AWD and the M2 is not, yet the M2 is heavier. Back to the drawing room boys.
Widest compact i have ever seen
Could save some weight if they got rid of that giant TV in the middle.
nice lap, but the artifical sound is annoying
Very impressive lap. Almost a second faster than a Civic Type R for only double the price! Still.. very nice car :)
Eh? The Type R did 7:44, and that was a stripped out version. Also, since when has track performance scaled perfectly with price? You're comparing a BMW with a Honda for a start.

I wouldn’t drive the Civic even if it was a minute faster.
Driver was Jörg Weidinger - no date provided on the official Nürburgring website, which is unusual. According to BMW it was some day in april.
Always been curious with these new BMWs, especially M models, what is the thumping sound on upshifts particularly the higher rpm upshifts? May be a dumb question but certainly sounds different then other cars.
Does this mean the M4 can also compete in the (entirely made up by marketeers) compact record? Asking for a friend.

I have watched countless videos on boards, tutorials, 100s of laps i iracing, and i have to say this is some of the best and sharpest driving ive seen yet, taught me a few things!
Very impressive lap but, compact? Really?
It weights only 10 kg less than the M4, is as wide as an M4, bigger track width, and only 10cm shorter.
Dog, this car ain't compact.
Very impressive lap anyways
7.38......Jaguar Project 8 4 door does it in 7.18...in 2019....5 years ago
I left BMW because to what they've done to their dashboards. Nothing luxury in BMW anymore.
It reminds me old Soviet broke down cars. 🤢🤢🤢
This is great but it leaves me strangely cold. I suspect we've hit peak ICE at the same time as the sizes and weights of supposedly compact cars has become grotesque. How much faster would this be in a lithe, 1300kg vehicle?
And BMW like Toyota and VW have proven themselves to be the worst offenders for anti-climate change prodaganda, both obvious and dishonestly hidden. I grew up driving Toyotas and planning on a straight 6 m3. Now I want nothing to do with either organization. They need to fail and the untainted, quality people go elsewhere.
Late turn in = less tyre squeal and wear.
Its nice to see the car but this must be a test engineer driving and not a race driver. I would have called Daniel Schwerfeld (All 4 Track) or given the car to Dennis Mathes from Meuspath. Even Daniel Heddergott the alcoholic across the road from BMW (Hauptstraße) would have demonstrated a beautiful lap in this car.
Regarding the tyres screeching I can understand if they are road tyres... but... I took a Porsche 991 GTS out for a lap yesterday and it was on Pilot Sport 4S... there was zero tyre squeal because I'm not over-driving the car.
Here is an example of zero tyre squeal, although this car is on Nankang AR-1.

I'm not the fastest driver on track but there are rules that the taxi drivers follow, and race drivers who I know, and its an etiquette thing. I'm at 1.54 and will continue watching this lap to the end.
For reference I am in Nürburg and am walking distance from the BMW Nürburg Test Center. I walk past it twice during my morning walk. It is a beautiful place to be every summer.
Next year I will try to arrange taxi laps in the BMW M2 Competition video below, because it is too fast for normal Touristenfahrten (Tourist Drives, where vehicles are rented to the public for fun laps on the Nordschleife).
ua-cam.com/video/dne_qPEr6Ic/v-deo.htmlsi=qFbAaBUaWgArQobo
There are trackday events which are private days without the usual traffic in Touristenfahrten. I will work with maybe one or two trackday organisers so people can experience the insanity of the F Series M2 Competition on track.

So much effort for only barely beating the 2 year old previous record (Audi RS3) with a much more powerful M2 is not very impressive to be honest... only proves that BMW builds way too heavy M cars by now.

There is not a single Volvo laptime on the official timing board.
