I spent over a decade as a hardcore alcoholic, waiting for the next drink. Did AA a few times, hated it, went back to drinking. Watched this video, got some hope, and delayed that "important" drink as long as I could. I've now been sober for 4 days, which is the longest I've made it since turning 21, and I plan on keeping it up. Thank you, Tommy. I'll let you know when I hit a month.
dude seriously proud of the fact that you quit smoking. its a task that a lot of people cant accomplish. even without any form of disability. ive tried and tried but always get too stressed and end up lighting up another one. i couldnt imagne the stress from people making fun of you on top of stress from quitting smoking
Fun story... my grandfather smoked all my life and on day he said "these are to damn expensive now, I quit". And he did it cold turkey. From 2 packs a day to nothing.
Lamington My mom smoked for 61 years- till a month before she died. She was disabled and had to have operations and recover in a rehab facility and caught the bed on fire. She got kicked out as disabled as she was, unable to walk. She told me that it was as addictive as heroin. I believe her.
My father smoked since he was a young man. Later in life, the doctor said, quit smoking or you’re going to lose your leg. Dad threw the cigarettes in the garbage and never smoked again. Unfortunately he still lost his leg about 20 years later.
I found this guy recently at the end of last year and I keep coming back. Nothing on the internet makes me feel as good as watching these videos makes me feel. It doesn't make me feel lucky for having sight, it makes me feel lacking in the humility and good humour that this Tommy tackles his life with. We all need a lot more of what this guy has and the world will be a happier place.
I have no idea who this guy is but he is absolutely incredible He would be the perfect cool uncle you look up to with stars in your eyes throughout your life.
It just hit me that what's so great about these videos is that they start from the perspective of how he's different, but they end up in some truths about how we are all really alike.
Do it today. Just do it today! Just stop right now. I know it's not this easy but don't even smoke a last cigarette. Just try and don't smoke the ones you have left. It's how my dentist stopped. He smoked for over 20 years, ran out of cigarettes and when he found nowhere to buy more, he just quit buying them and now he's over a year with no cigarettes strong.
I'm 18 and have a hearing deficiency that is constantly getting worse and I've always felt pretty down about it, but seeing how positive you are is really nice. Question for future videos: Why do some blind people wear glasses and others not?
congrats on 11 years!! jan 1 was the start of my nofap journey Edit: thanks everyone for the support, it means so much, all of it. It feels me with determination
I've been smoking for over 25yrs. Tried Wellbutrin & it made me smoke more. I am 45 & I still smoke. Unfortunately I have developed COPD. I'm proud of you for quitting
I’m 15 and the first time I smoked a cigarette was about 3 months ago, I’ve done a couple more times after that but stopped as I didn’t want to make it a habit. You’ve got this, keep trying... you’ll get there eventually.
My dad/stepdads blind and he stopped smoking 2 years ago but he said the only good thing about smoking is that he never had to shave cause he would miss a few times before he made it😂
good for you Tommy for quitting! I also quit cold turkey on January 6th, 2005 so it's coming up on my 15th anniversary of being a non smoker. i never smoked another cig again, not even a drag. if anyone is thinking of quitting, you can do it! it's not as hard as you think it will be. definitely challenging and you need will power but it can be done and you'll be so much better off for it
It’s about 4:30am, I am quite stoned and randomly wondered how a blind individual would light the cigarette without snapping it or burning fingertips to hell! Haha your attitude and way of speech is great I’ll be back to check out more! Congrats on the milestone! I’m sure this old but I hope all is well!
I also started smoking because it was "cool" started when I was 14. I'm 30 now and it was the worst decision I have ever made. I've tried to quit multiple times but I can't seem to kick the habit.
After watching this video, and smoking a cigarette lol, you have inspired me to try and quit again. I will take your advice tommy about delaying the most important ones. We'll see how far I get.
Matthew Ward i quit 2.5 years ago... i got bronchitis and could barely take a drag and i remember at 3pm i said to myself, fuck it if i keep telling myself i have to quit from the morning smoke, I'll never quit. so I convinced myself if I could make it through the rest of the day without another one, I would never have another one. and so I did. i went home and spent the rest of the night looking up symptoms of quitting smoking and success stories. and didn't want to leave my bed for a week. and then didn't want to hang outside where people smoked
That's an easy answer! I lost my sight two years ago and it's tough at first but after a while, you will get used to the sensation. You can feel where you need to be with the clippers.
I watched most of your videos a couple of years ago and to this day regularly appreciate not being blind. I think it will stay with me for the rest of my life.
@@opluxna2120 This was no longer a thing when I was in 8th grade, but we had a smoky teacher's lounge, too. I only went there a couple of times, but if you had messed up, it was a way to avoid getting chewed out. Go to the teacher's lounge, confess, and for some reason, he won't chew you out in the presence of everybody else. While we were definitely not allowed to smoke on school grounds, some teachers would ask a student for a light once in a while. It was a ruse. I remember teachers doing this when we were in 7th grade, in fact. "Got a light, kid?" -- "Sure do, Mr. Stevens, Sir." (Lights teacher's cigarette.) -- "Smoker, eh?" While they enjoyed seeing the reaction on part of the student (ranging from embarrassment to pride) they were never shocked. They knew that kids smoke. They did it themselves. Children are curious and the temptation to try a cigarette is strong, even if you're usually one of the good kids. It's addictive and, to be honest, sort of enjoyable. Many ex-smokers pretend they never enjoyed smoking, but I think what they really hated was being addicted and the prospect of dying a horrible death -- and getting shamed for it because you "brought in on yourself".
+Noah None Weed has never been and never will be like crack cocaine, thats some nonsense. If youre trying to imply weed was stronger in any way back then youre also 100% wrong. Weed back then was absolute garbage with like 1-5% thc on average, todays stuff is 15-25% THC. I wouldnt smoke 60s/70s weed for free lol
I wonder how blind people that keep their eyes closed does not just fall asleep... Because I almost fall asleep when I close my eyes for more than a few minutes...
I know what you mean. I quit cold turkey almost 4 years ago. Have zero desire to smoke again, and usually when I smell someone smoking it smells gross. But every once in a while, especially if they are smoking American Spirits (which I smoked) I miss it. I think more because the brain creates such strong ties to smells, and somewhere deep in my brain that smell is associated with the endorphin release smoking gives.
golden foxa sometimes i can depends. i mean smokers have yellow nails when most of the time they're a pinkish color, they also have bad teeth. and sometimes bad skin.
I love the way this guy tells his stories! I've watched a few of his other videos and I find that I can't go watch one without having a good laugh. His laugh is contagious XD
Tommy Edison - answering THE most important questions! Seriously though, I love how you're prepared to answer pretty much any question about living as a blind person. Learning so much from your channel. I am going to have a cigarette now though - I delayed for 90 minutes after my last meal!
I smoke, I also have insomnia so I lay in a dark room awake smoking most of the nite so, I can never see to light my smokes until the lighters already lit I've never burnt myself I've lit them backward a couple times on accedent
When I saw this video, I immediately hoped that you did not light a real cigarette up just to show. I put my last cigarette down 7 years ago this month. And yet I know if I would to light one up, I will be back to smoking a pack a day. Did that for 11 years, all of which was at a casino. So I was more like a 3 or 4 pack a day smoker. Congratulations on not smoking any more and continue the great work.

no :/... 5 of the times it happend because i took 1 out of the package and then didnt smoke it right away, so i either stored it over my ear or played around with it in my hands... and then i didnt check which site was which when i finally got to smoke it :/
lol, Birthday Candle 100's That just made me remember a joke from an old Simpson's episode where there was a blind jazz musician who thought an umbrella was a saxophone and he said, "you mean to tell me I've been playing the umbrella for 30 years?" I'm imagining another cartoon show doing the same joke, having a blind character that thinks candles are cigarettes.
My Dad gave me permission to smoke in the house when I was 12. It just wasn't that big of a deal back in the 60's. I quit around age 57 about 11 years ago. Now I vape and it's great.
I watched this video over a year ago and your advice about delaying the important cigarettes is still firmly in my mind. I use that tactic now to deal with any addictive sort of behavior, not just smoking.
Tommy, I find your demeanor inspiring not because you're blind, but because you're genuinely uplifting. Since you probably know what an avatar is, I'd just like to explain that mine is a shot of a blurred background through a car window with rain drops on it. It's truly beautiful. I'd also like you to know that I'm telling you this just to fuck with you. I feel like I know you'll find the humor in it.
Tommy, you are hilarious and your laugh is so contagious. I can't believe you smoked so much for so long because your skin looks great and I just do believe that you look like the type that would smoke. I went blind a few years ago because of a stroke but not so blind to where I can't use a magnifying glass to see you.
He has my sense of humor and everything. He probably has my color eyes, but how should I know? I can't see them. Neither can he. LOL. I am blind as well.
Being in a Facebook group chat with a 13 year-old girl for a few weeks, it appears smoking weed in the garden is pretty common. It was her parents' so the smell wasn't noticeable to them, lol.
ShaneD3488 I grew up with someone that started smoking at 6 and started smoking pot at 10 or 11. They'd tried just about everything in middle school. You can guess how they turned out as an adult...
Yes because there used to be no legal age to buy cigarettes. It ended uo changing to 18, and now 21. My mom as a 11 year old, walking on her way home from school, would occasionally go and buy a pack for her dad when he asked for them. It wasnt even considered weird. Many kids would start smoking at 13... my mother fortunately never smoked though.
And just like that tommy became addicted to birthday candles

no :/... 5 of the times it happend because i took 1 out of the package and then didnt smoke it right away, so i either stored it over my ear or played around with it in my hands... and then i didnt check which site was which when i finally got to smoke it :/
Dilini Wattuhewage Thats like the most stupid question... -,- how do you think a blind man can leave a comment on a video?
Luuk Wuijster your stupid he replied to multiple comments
The letter 4 You're*
Luuk Wuijster the blind man in these videos replies to comments all the time. He has computer programs and friends to help him
lol, Birthday Candle 100's That just made me remember a joke from an old Simpson's episode where there was a blind jazz musician who thought an umbrella was a saxophone and he said, "you mean to tell me I've been playing the umbrella for 30 years?" I'm imagining another cartoon show doing the same joke, having a blind character that thinks candles are cigarettes.
your positive attitude and overall energy makes me happy deep down in my soul for some reason. subscribed
Got an ad for glasses before watching this... LOL you have a great sense of humor
i love this dude he is so charming
Bruh your pic is BTK
It's not the blindness that would be a hindrance, but the tremors.
Yeah no being able to see would be a "hindrance"
"We'll just call him JW" lol all cs fans will understand
The Chosen One stfu that was stupid
Hermit I instantly thought csgo's jw when he said it so not that stupid
frittatasTV I was thinking that wtf😂😂
Fnatic JW, the person who offers cigarettes to blind people..😂
I thought he said jew lol
Tommy your videos always makes me on such a good mood!
My Dad gave me permission to smoke in the house when I was 12. It just wasn't that big of a deal back in the 60's. I quit around age 57 about 11 years ago. Now I vape and it's great.
Can you swim? How is the swimming experience for someone who's never had sight?
This dude got so many jokes 😂😂 I love it
Is your finger twitchiness related to your blindness or are you just one of those people who weren't born with surgeons hands😂
I am 17 almost 18 and shake a lot, it's more evident in the winter and when I'm rolling a cig
I drink a lot and my hands can't stop shaking
He answered that on one of his videos. He said that his hands were always shaky even when he was a kid, and nobody could ever figure out why.
James Smith look at my banner
I want him to do a draw my life.
Honestly I am glad smoking is becoming less common, it's so damaging to your own and others health.
people are vaping now, and I've seen people who are strictly vapers run out and start smoking cigs because they were right there at the time.
He's right though.
i genuinely want to know what you had intended to communicate with that comment
Sugar is worse
Yeah, smoking is fucking stupid.
Hey Tommy! You spoke about cigarettes, have you consumed any recreational drugs and how did you feel?
P.S.: Keep up the Good Work Guys!
did you ever care about acne since you couldn't see it? Love your videos!! :)
My god! 7 days before my birthday😱 Congrats, by the way. Love you Tommy 😄
Tommy, you are hilarious and your laugh is so contagious. I can't believe you smoked so much for so long because your skin looks great and I just do believe that you look like the type that would smoke. I went blind a few years ago because of a stroke but not so blind to where I can't use a magnifying glass to see you.
2:41 Hoping you were gonna say "Aw I'm still blind..."
Literally what he meant. No Ben == Vision back, because Ben doesn't have to look for him if he has his the vision.
2:05 Imagine if he got trolled and it was a firecracker.
I just stopped smoking like 2 months ago. So worth it. Except for the weight gain lol
Ronson Peters Congratulations are you still clean to this day?
Thank you sir! You are an amazing person, thank you for sharing your life with us.
I've lit cigarettes the wrong way many times and I could see what I was doing proud you kicked it bro. Would've messed up that great smile of yours.

He has my sense of humor and everything. He probably has my color eyes, but how should I know? I can't see them. Neither can he. LOL. I am blind as well.
They are a bleached blue with no black center
How are you trping
@@Nitsua_Atayha how can he respond
He uses talk to text
You're an inspiration Tommy.
I love your videos Tommy. I always thoroughly enjoy them.
Tommy, what are your opinions on self driving cars? I was thinking how it would give blind and visually impaired people more independence.
There used to be smoking 12 year olds? Holy crap and I thought today's kids were messed up.
Being in a Facebook group chat with a 13 year-old girl for a few weeks, it appears smoking weed in the garden is pretty common. It was her parents' so the smell wasn't noticeable to them, lol.
Mr Videos & Games that's way too young for weed, damn wtf
ShaneD3488 I grew up with someone that started smoking at 6 and started smoking pot at 10 or 11. They'd tried just about everything in middle school. You can guess how they turned out as an adult...
Yes because there used to be no legal age to buy cigarettes. It ended uo changing to 18, and now 21. My mom as a 11 year old, walking on her way home from school, would occasionally go and buy a pack for her dad when he asked for them. It wasnt even considered weird. Many kids would start smoking at 13... my mother fortunately never smoked though.
There used to be and there's still
Well... 2:42 he makes a wish *opens his eyes*
"No, Ben's still here"
How did he know..
He didn't know. His wish was for Ben to disappear. He said it as part of the joke.
I just started smoking again after stopping my Chantix. Going to try cold turkey. Thanks for the advice! Delaying is such great advice.
I LOVE TOMMY SO MUCH AND I LOVE THE WAY HE LAUGHS AT HIS JOKED
