The tape recording at the beginning was inspired by the night terrors Gerard was having while at the Paramour Mansion. Gerard would often wake up in the middle of the night, where he would feel as if someone were around his neck, choking him. ("It feels like somebody's gripping my throat and squeezing.") The original recording creeps Frank Iero out.

i love this song so much. the begging and the recordings aren't scripted, while the band was staying at a haunted mansion gerard would wake up in the middle of the night and record them. i relate to this song alot.

These terrors, it feels like someone was gripping my throat, and squeezing.
Daniel Medina I find the "Wake up!" particularly chilling because it makes me think of those moments where you question whether or not this is reality and when you realize it's actually a nightmare you desperately try to wake up to get away from the horror. Additionally, where you wonder during the day if perhaps this life is just a dream and when we die we actually awaken. I also feel as though this could be applied to an event that is so terrible you tell yourself to "wake up" because it's so horrid that your in denial and believe it can't really be happening... So yeah the "wake up" section is definitely the most intense moment and sends chills down my spine as well.

Im 18, and have frequent night terrors. to me this song explains how "just sleep" is not that easy. and to me, "kiss me goodbye " is how I feel every night when I say goodnight to my family. I see terrible things when I am asleep, like I'm in another demension. the verse "the hardest part is letting go of your dreams" relates because due to night terrors being so damn real that it's hard to go about your life while you're awake. just my interpretation. I wish so badly they would do just one more tour..

You know what I love about this song? That during the bridge-end area behind the music, faintly, you can hear "Wake up!" It's like he's trapped in a nightmare filled with a cocauphany of noise and he's trying to wake up but it's being drowned out. And he can't get out. The night terrors are drowning out his need to wake up. It's so poetic.
This song kinda makes me think of a suicide story. Like the voices in the persons head, they might be taking medication for that reason. Then bad things start happening in their life, things that could make them depressed and suicidal. "A drink for the horror that I'm in" that could be the person drinking the water while overdosing on pills, deciding to end it all. Then while they lie down in bed waiting for the pills to work, they start overthinking, deciding maybe this isn't a good idea at all. They tell themselves to "just sleep" over and over, but then they finally come to conclusions and decide that they can't end it. The "wake up" is them waking up and trying to get help. But they don't make it. The contents of the pills have overridden the body and the person is now dead on the floor with tears in their eyes from pleading to be saved. "I can't ever wake up" is a final tear streaming down their cheek, while the final guitar riff is their very last breath as they die

Gerard wrote this song while they were staying at the paramore mansion for recording for the black parade and he kept getting these night terrors where people who he loved where getting killed and someone was gripping his throat did anyone else get chills
Ugh I had night terrors when I was really young. Possibly the most mysterious and haunting experiences you will ever have in your life. It's like you're paralyzed in some repeatable maze of, well, terror. Everything you never thought you were scared of comes in and makes you scared of it. I remember my mom telling me that when I had them she would try to come in to comfort me because she could hear me sobbing. I would just cower away from her and cry. I was scared to sleep for a whole year. After the night terrors wore off, themes and feelings I experienced in them would always creep back into my dreams, but I've learned to overcome them.
Life is my repeating terror. I wish it comes to an end.

Was lucky enough to meet Frank Iero tonight at an LS Dunes show. He was super cool in person and let me take a picture with him. MCR got me through so many tough times in life. This is one of my favorite mcr songs of all time. had to come back or a listen after finally meeting him tonight.
