  • In this video I will give you a full, component by component, look at the new Okuma long casting Solaris SS Surf Rods.
These rods were introduced at ICAST 2021 for the 2022 season. This new, updated version of the long standing Solaris Family is highly upgraded and now featues the popular 30/70 rod split design. This design gives you better casting distance and true 1-piece feel. Available from 9'6" to 12' in length, these rods are built for the surf and ultra long casting.
Starting at just $99.99, they might be the right rod for you.

How is this rod in comparison to the regular Rockaway Surf Rod without the HD? Is it stiffer at the tip or harder?

would this rod be good for casting big lures?

They are designed to cast heavy weight with big chunks of bait from the surf, so I’m sure they’d probably work good for big lures. They seem to load up nicely.

Do you think this would be a good rod for pier fishing for medium sized sharks around 6 feet, looking at the MH 9'6 option. Thank you kindly!

It would probably work out fine for the pier. They are nice and stout rods.

Should I buy this rod or the Ocuma rockaway rod? I live in Massachusetts and I catch strippers from the beach

Either one will do you right. I believe the Rockaway HD rods are a bit lighter in weight.
