Hey guys! Just uploaded a 3-zone ride build and covered the edge switch soldering. Check out link in description. It's the same process for dual zone crash and dual zone hi-hat. Thanks
Just got some bow and edge triggers from MYRK and your video answered all my questions about how to install them! Thanks!
Great vid. Play that groove from 12:32 in the intro! I kick myself when I watch an expert video from someone who I find out can’t even drum. YOU can drum! Subscribed because I’ll be doing an e-conversion.
Thank you! 🙏🏽
Nicely done! Good to see a clean installation of the membrane triggers! If you wanted to get a better bell coverage try using a heat gun on some rubber on a cymbal bell to warp it into shape, then cut it round. Probably best to do this before the membranes are on the cymbal though!
To answer basic queries, our V1 and V2 membranes (V1 had no 3M backing tape) were Roland spec membranes, and should be installed on the top of a cymbal. There are some instances of the edge membrane working on the underside, but this is due to warping of the cymbal when hit that triggers the membrane. This results in greatly reduced dynamics, and will only work on thin metal cymbals - it will 100% not work mounted on the underside of a plastic or acrylic cymbal.
We are coming out with a new line this year (Summer 2020) which involve an easier connection method to make 360 degree coverage areas, and much easier to hide the wiring as a result!
Thank you! There you go. Btw, are you guys planning to make the bell trigger a bit thicker? 😅
@@ProjectBeats_ thicker? You mean larger radius (like a ring instead of 90 degrees)?
No, I meant just thicker. So It’s harder to miss. 😅 90 is alright. Or 180. But I think it would be great if its just a bit thicker.
@@ProjectBeats_ Ah, in this case it's about how you build the layer between the strike surface and the membrane - you want to ensure you are getting the force from the strike surface and directing it towards the membrane.
I see. Hmm so a bit harder rubber material eh? Hmm gotta source something. Thanks!
Great vid. Thanks. Just started building my own eDrum kit so this was a great help.
🙌🏽 thanks! All the best with your project.
Please do a full video on how you soldered and assembled the cymbals, especialy the 3-zone-ride.
Will try and do one soon!
I would also love this. Just got all the same components in the mail, and I'm just staring at them wondering what to do next. ;)
Yes please! i'm building my kit this year and want to figure out my options. :) This looks very cool, and i kinda like the idea of making the cymbals from triggers myself instead of investing in roland or similar at first at least.
ProjectBeatsOfficial any news on an update on how things are connected? I’m curious to purchase these parts as they would fit my budget, just would love to have a more detailed runthrough :) love the channel btwx followed and looking forward to more interesting drum content, big up! 💪🏻😎
I went true the same hell of side stick and rim shot roland make a trigger that attaches to the side of the drum shell and I'm sure othre other companies have similar
Would be cool if you shared that 3D print extender for the Hi-Hats man that’s real innovative 👌🏾💯
Dude, you have seriously great backbeat skills!
🙌🏽🙏🏽 Thank you!
Dude! Awesome Video! A Tutorial in the 3 Zone Ridecymbal would be absolutly awesome!
Thanks man! Checkout the latest upload. 😉
Hey great vid,for your kick drum you coul use ufo triggers..they are much cheaper than r-drums and they work great cause there is a foam pillow where the beater hits
Thanks! Yeah I saw it and did not mention it coz that thing is heavy! So shipping to singapore is expensive. Might as well just get parts from rdrum. 😅
@@ProjectBeats_ oh i thought you were living in the US..yeah in that case you might as well go the r-drums route....Got them for my snare, one of the best triggers out there...Have in mind they are nade to order..It will takes a couple months to receive them
+1 for the UFO Drum. It's the best bass drum trigger I've found.
Take that Roland! :)
😅😆
I commend you for your efforts!
Cool project!
Awesome video! Could you please make a video about how you soldered the Myrk switches together? Love the production quality of your videos btw. Keep it up!
Thanks man! That was the part that I had cut out accidentally coz youtube wont allow me to upload more than 15mins. 🤦🏻♂️ I’ll try to make one for the next batch man. But its very simple for this setup, just solder and shrink tube the membrane side to a wire with female pins at the end. Similar to a pin inside a motherboard PC. Then the go edrum 360 would have a provision slot marked m.u. inside you just plug in basically. You can interchange if not working till u get a sound fr module. It wont harm the module at all. The bell bit tricky, just dont use the tip of the tip-ring-sleeve of the bell wiring. Experiment till u get bell sound. 😅 But I’ll try and make a video once I get a new batch of low volume cymbals.
@@ProjectBeats_ Please, thats exactly what I'm looking for! Is it possible to place the bell switch under the cymbal or does it have to be on the upside? Greet and rock on
Lutti mag for this particular switch it has to be above to function properly. I’m waiting for a different type switch for bell and edge. And will do full build video when I get those switches. Thanks!
Can you do a video on the complete Hi-hat build, please.
Didn’t see the edge zone build on hi-hat.
I’ll try and do that. :)
@@ProjectBeats_ Yes please. I want to see that too ;)
def would like to see this
Great job !
Thanks!
To get addictive drums to work I had to turn off LOC and turn on GM but I have a different module too so I don't know if that'll help you but I love addictive drums version 2
hi man !! can you share the 3d file for printing for the hi-hat (the pieces your friend as design) ?? ;) thx !
Excellent video. subscribed. i'm doing a very similar thing with my kit but i need some help! 1) why the riser foam? 2) where did you buy the wires and end pieces for them? 3) how do you get the cymbals to not move since it might interfere with the wiring?
Hey thanks! 1. The riser helps to get more accurate response with a good amount of surface contact. The riser would be under a wider rubber surface. This would widen the trigger area. Myrk recommends santoprene rubber on top. But for me hiding it under the uchannel is enough for the edge trigger. Otherwise there would be missed triggers. 2. I got it from my local electric supply store. You can get it from you local radio shack or similar. 3. Im just tightening the wing-nut for now. It’s not a big issue. They mostly stay in place. 🙏🏽🙌🏽
@@ProjectBeats_ thanks for being so responsive to me and others on here. truly appreciated!
Hi, do you have 3d print file for the hi-hat controller extension for sale? Thanks.
Hey. I’ll be getting my test prints this week if it works out I’ll post it with new hi hat build vid.
Would you please let us know the wiring diagram for the 3 zone ride and how do you join the 2 bell switches? This is for a Roland module
I’ll try to make a video. But the idea is, Dual zone setup on the ride is similar to a dual zone crash. Crash/ride cable from roland module plugs into goedum dual zone 360 trigger, myrk edge membrane plugs into goedrum 360. There is a pin inside the trigger to connect the membrane. Just need the right connectors and solder to the myrk membrane. Then the bell is a separate cable from the module. It’s wired to ring-sleeve of the TRS. Hope that gives you an idea. But I’ll try to make a video.
hi bro nice job..can i ask about the rim sound what kind of trigger ? thanks
Hey man. I believe it’s in the description. It’s called edge membrane
Nice ! Could you give us the ebay link of the rubber U channel please ?
And also what rubber did you put under the hihat to remove the vibrations ? I have the same vibration problem and I can’t fix it....
Thank you from France 🇫🇷
France?! Wow! Bonjour from Singapore! 😆The u-channel ebay link is in the pinned comments. The rubber I put under the Hats I think is called 3M furniture rubber pads or something like that, I put 2 big ones that I taped and then small ones all around. Hope this helps!
Thank you very much !
Merci beaucoup 😊🇫🇷
So glad I’ve found your channel, was put off doing a conversion solely because of the price of the cymbals, what did it cost you in total for the cymbal project?
Hey! Yeah, the LVC from alibaba is around 3/4 the price of the zildjian l80 set. Overall is still around half the price of a premade conversion ecymbal.
I’m having problems getting the goey drum trigger boxes shipped to UK, have you any ideas what I could use instead?
For cymbals I’ve no idea. Maybe you can try to get a reshipper. If not premade cymbal set by jobecky or maybe other brand.
ProjectBeatsOfficial - I’m too cheap to pay Jobeky cymbal prices, looks like I’m diving into making my own project box with jacks and piezos...
🙌🏽 go for it! 💪🏽
Hey Joven I used your recommendation of rubber edge with some diy cymbals membrane and trigger box from goedrum. I’ve had problems with the cymbal edge self-choking. Removing the rubber stops this. I asked goedrum and they said it could be the thickness of the cymbal ie my rubber is fitting too tight.
Can you tell me your cymbal thickness and how tight or loose your rubber rim was before super gluing the ends?
Thank you
Hey, in the links list in the description, I have a U rubber channel listed as “recommended”. Based on what I have experienced. But underneath it I used a double side tape insed in between the u rubber and the membrane as a sort of riser to help with triggering and choking. This riser idea came from Myrk’s suggestion. You can try a thin piece of rubber or those industrial grade double side tape that is sort of made from silicon. I think they might last longer than the tape I used. Hope these suggestions help.
I wonder if cymbal mute material glued under hi-hat would work to dampen it....
Ride build V3 in the playlist. I show the goedrum underside version choke switch.
Can you show a better view and more in depth explanation for setting up the dual trigger goedrum device? I need to know if I need to soder anything
Checkout 3zone ride video guide.
Great video. I have made several diy e cymbals single zone. I am using Alexis dm10 and 6 combined with my large kit 30 piece set at the studio. Just recently converted a much smaller 15 piece for home that is getting hooked to and old yamaha dtxtreme 2. How can I get the hit hat extender you got made to use a bottom hat to open and close with a goedrum controller?
Thanks man! That sounds cool! I’ll be posting it to my store for cheap. So you can print from where you are. I just need time to perfect the fit. But everything is closed since covid. So that will take a while. If you need asap Gear Drum IT sells a nicely done extension. They have FB and web.
@@ProjectBeats_ Hi just wondering if you have that 3d Print file availlable for sale yet? Thanks.
Hi. Greate Video.
Where did you got the trigger boxes.
I can not find them on ebay.
Best wishes from Bavaria
Rolf
Thanks! Try and change to ebay international or something. They are called GoEdrum 360 Dual Zone Cymbal Trigger
Hi i know for your ride bell you used both goedrum piezo and membrane. Which did you prefer?
Hey, peizo seemed to work better. Goedrum now has a separate bell cup that is sort of decoupled from the cymbal. Not sure if can be bought separately. Looks like a more elegant solution.
This is really helpful thanks. I'm also going to use the Myrk membranes. Which cymbals are you using?
Glad you find it helpful. I’m using cheap low volume cymbals off of alibaba. They are less than half the price of zildjians. Tongxiang I believe is the brand.
Great kit, I already have this but eith td15, ezdrummer and vh 11 and roland ride and crash, Im gonna make 2 dual zone crashes like you did. I was wondering which vst u are using :D
Thanks! Thats Cool! For this demo I’m just using the stock sounds I tweaked a bit.
Great build! I've had some Myrk membranes for ages that I haven't done anything with yet, maybe I need to finally get them done! Do you remember what thickness the rubber u-channel is that you bought? Did you just go for the thinnest gap possible?
Thanks! I ordered 13mm x 4mm for this build. I’m making a new batch and I ordered a bit thicker for those 16mm x 7mm. But dpends on your preference I guess.
@@ProjectBeats_ Awesome, cheers! I like the look of what you have there so if I end up doing it, I'll probably try that size. Cheers!
I'm using an alesis strike for my module. Having trouble with my edge trigger. I have a rubber u channel just like you on my low volume hi-hat. Just using the top and a goedrum pedal trigger. Finding it difficult to consistently trigger the edge. Any tips? Would putting some eva foam under the u channel help?
Hey. But you are getting some sound when you hit the edge? If so, yeah foam riser on the silver part of the membrane would help. Use a more rigid foam or any thick 3M foam tape about 2mm. One that would hold it’s shape for a long time. Maybe that would help.
@@ProjectBeats_ thank you. Yes I am getting sound. Just not consistent and have to hit it just right. I'm ordering some eva foam like you have so I'll update with my findings. Thank you for your help!
what is the second wire attached to the left side of the project box on the hi hat? is it going through one of the holes in the cymbal to the myrk switch on top? and what did you use to secure the remainder of the project box to the bottom of the hi hat? are you gluing/taping the project boxes or securing them with nuts/bolts? thanks
The hihat is dual zone so the wire that you see is connected to the edge switch above. And I ditched the box on the hihat coz it doesnt fit and just ended up hot gluing the pcv board to the bottom.
Is the membrane switch on the Hi-Hat on the top of the top cymbal?
If so - has it worked well for you?
Yes its on top. Yup, works great. 👍🏽 no problems since.
Great DIY build! I'm still stomped how you got a 3 zone ride with a dual trigger box from Go-eDrum. Could you explain?
Hey. Thanks! So the dual zone edge + bow switch plugs into one channel to the module. The module supports dual trigger from that single cable. And then the bell is a separate cable to the module. This is for roland module. Not sure with different brands.
@@ProjectBeats_ is the bell swith also connected to the bow piezo, or does it work on its on?
The bell is independent from bow/edge.
It has it’s own cable going to the module
Do you have any experience with Extreme drum triggers? What's your take on them if so?
no I don't, but they look similar to goedrum internal side trigger. I had those for more than a year and still working great.
@@ProjectBeats_ I have my Crimson II midi out to my computer, SSD3 loaded and audio device is FocusRight 2i2. Everything works but the volume is really not very loud at all. Any ideas??
I just placed an order for the same exact items from Goedrum. Thanks for the video.
Where did you get the rubber material for the edges of the cymbal to mute vibrations?
Cool! Look up U Rubber Channel in ebay. 👌🏽
Where did you find the Goedrum trigger boxes? I can't find them anywhere!
Ebay. They are called goedrum 360 cymbal trigger
Sir can you give me exact description of the hi hat trigger? I can't find it in ebay. The one that under the cymbals. Thank you
Hey man! I’ve listed it in the description.
Can you connect the membrane straight to a female audio jack (as I do for the other mesh triggers?)
Or do you still need the goedrum trigger box?
I saw that there is just one more piezo in that box and of course the jack audio.
Sure you can. It’ll be 1 zone tho but its possible. Might need some reinforcement
@@ProjectBeats_ sure thing. But if i connect a bell trigger and the edge trigger into a stereo jack, that might work, right? What exactly do you mean by reinforcement?
Also would the edge trigger function as a choke too?
Yeah, I was gonna say. Piezo directly to the underside of the cymbals breaks easy. For bell and bow (2 zone) there is a specific wiring of the piezo for that to work properly. Bell and edge needs a certain amount of response from the main piezo. I just went for the box coz It’s more convenient. Working with multiple triggers can get a bit messy, and honestly a bit of headache to make it work accurately.
@@ProjectBeats_ thanks for the hint. How about the choke? I'm considering the Myrk membranes you have in the list (shipping for me is much less than the goedrum)
If you really like that it actually works. Right now I would just recommend Lemon 18” ride from alibaba. They just work and very reliable for not a lot of money. But if you are going for acoustic cymbal look. Myrk works too.
does anybody know from where i can buy such triggers in europe? the goedrum does`t ship to germany
Hey I checked with GoEdrum. Shipping is suspended due to the virus their not sure when it’ll resume.
Is it possible to trigger a low volume cymbal like this for a Yamaha drum module?
You can check with goedrum. I think some parts have to be specifically for yamaha
Where did you get the cymbals trigger?
Ebay. Search: GoEdrum 360 cymbal trigger
@@ProjectBeats_
Thanks bro
I would get roland cymbals, they make much less sound
On some cases yes. VH13 is loud. 😅 but I’d get them too if I have budget. Digital ride is nice. And new VH13. Much more accurate than DIY of course
@@ProjectBeats_ the vh10 or 11 is way quieter than vh12 or 13
Hi how loud the sound of drum ? Room level
Ecymbals, rubber side = rubber practice pad level. Metal part (bow) louder.
Mesh drum softer than drumpad
Rim shots are louder if without rubber ring.
Hey can you Tell me from where you have the Ride Bell trigger ?
Yo! Got if from ebay. Myrk percussion bell membrane. They also made the edge membrane switch
What did it cost to build? Also, how loud is it volume down? Thanks!
Around about 1-1.2k usd. Just about the same with a rubber drum pad. Altho metal ecymbal is a bit louder. Especially when hitting metal parts like bow/bell
How did you deal with hotspots in the snare and toms?
There’s none since it’s on the side. I placed it where I wont hit it accidentally.
ProjectBeatsOfficial I take it you don’t use positional sensing?
It's TD17 bro. There is none.
ProjectBeatsOfficial ah I got you. I’ve been considering side triggers but I just love when the hardest hit of the snare is in the centre, oh well, trade off I guess
how much did you spend so far?
Too much! 😆
Been a while, I forgot, but If I remember right I think maybe roughly 500SGD or so for the cymbals conversion.
Boss san ka omorder ng goedrum
Ebay. Links in description
Bro what did you use to drill the hole thru the bottom hi-hat? I bought a 3/4 inch metal bit for the drill but it almost broke my drill lol
Whoa. Yeah it is tough, I used 3 types of step drill that came in a pack from an online store. 😅 And they all lost sharpness. You just need enough so your jack cable will go through. It doesn’t have to be very round and pretty. Just cover it with a cut rubber grommet and you are set. What I do is insert the jack first and then cover with the grommet. You dont need to glue the grommet even.
U from the PH bro?
yup!
@@ProjectBeats_ woah cool! May i consult you when i someday build an edrumset?
Sure. You can dm me on IG. I’m not in PH atm. But happy to answer some questions.
@@ProjectBeats_ thanks man, ill dm you on IG then

Your Myrk links are dead (yeah I know it's been a while). And your goedrum links are from China. I know that's close to Hawaii but not so much for us mainlander haoles
