I just got a 2nd Gen Ring doorbell for Christmas 2023. I fully charged it and hard wired it into the home doorbell wiring. My batter lasted for all of 9 days. To recharge it I had to de-wire if from the house, a huge PITA. Who wants to uninstall and reinstall the ring to the wiring every week or so? I've bought a real doorbell again and try a solar frame as a Ring charger. At least it'll be easier to remove the Ring Doorbell for a battery change. It that doesn't work I'll bin it.
This Ring doorbell was a gift. Were I to buy another (doubtful) the way to go would be to buy the newer Ring Doorbells with the removable battery packs, plus an extry battery pack. That way a battery change would be a 3 minute effort.

a door bell that cant hold a charge in the cold is pretty pointless here in Minnesota.

The main problem related to battery life I have , is the fact that the "motion sensor" is actually not a motion sensor. It's all done with the camera field of view , so at the end of each day every car trigger the motion alert by cutting the sunlight to the camera whatever the distance setting you have !!!!

I chose the wired version to avoid battery issues. My old doorbell worked for 60+ years without maintenance and I did not want a Doorbell that needed maintenance like monthly battery charging and battery replacement every two years. I had a burglary and decided to add a doorbell with video recording. Looking at the options, the battery versions seemed easy to install, but had battery maintenance issues. Don't need that. I love the video and audio quality of the Ring PRO 2, and use it with an Echo Show to interact with visitors at the door. I also added a hidden Wyze Cam 3 in case the burglar blocks or steals my doorbell. Call me paranoid, but when you are in bed and there are burglars with flashlights in your hall at 3AM as I had, you take corrective action. When the police came, they asked if I had a camera or video doorbell, because that is what solves many burglaries now. Honestly I think a Ring Doorbell or Cam is a deterrent, and I would rather deter than fight off a burglar. Either type, battery or wired, will save your kyster.

I had a ring doorbell camera purchased 2018 and it worked great, but in February 4 2019 someone decided that he wanted to steal my ring from it location which was mounted to the brick wall at my front door. Very easy to install and even easier to be removed. The mounting device provided to mount the device is made of plastic and can be very easy to remove as plastic can be broken. I reported the theft and emailed the company that I received it from and they claim that they will replace it, still waiting for my replacement. It might cost more to manufacture the Ring device with a metal mounting plate. If it keeps the unit from being stolen then it would be worth the extra cost. I bought a replacement unit from Home Depot and put a.metal strap mounted to the wall with longer screws now it can not be broken off the wall.

I have the same doorbell, and the battery life sucks. I have called several time about this issue and no one explained it the way you did. I have had the doorbell less than a year and this will be the 3rd time charging the battery. Who knew that with a hard wired doorbell you would have to continually charge the battery. Thanks for the video...looking for a new doorbell.

I have the original Ring Doorbell. Installed and operational for about six months. Hardwired also, but noticed the battery failing to hold a charge. Even though the doorbell is hardwired I can monitor the charge through their settings function. The electric charge the battery holds dropping continually. Eventually, the battery will fail to hold any charge even though it's hardwired to a constant source of electricity. After Googling around I've found no available replacement battery for the original Ring Doorbell; and there is no one who has any experience on how to replace the battery. Since a lot of Ring Doorbell originals were sold there eventually will be someone who will find a way to replace the dead batteries. I like the original Doorbell since it's field of view is larger than the other later models. The original has a 180 degree horizontal and 160 degree vertical view, whereas the later models have only 160x90, less horizontal and less vertical.

My is hardwired to energy and has been 1yr old...stopped working.
The ring tone changed and a week later no more ring tone and Ring is dead.
Recharged the battery for 4hrs and the Ring came back on.
Let's see how long it works

Purchased mine Oct 2020. Hardwired it and thought i would never have a battery issue. Jan 22 2021 battery level dropped to 2% and stopped recording video. Found out, just as this video explains, hardwiring only trickle charges the battery - which is what the unit actually runs off of- and in cold weather battery will not take the charge going to it. Now i have to un-mount the unit from the wall AND disconnect the hardwired power source from unit bring inside to warm up and to charge. Then reverse all steps to reinstall. ALL IN THE COLD WEATHER WHILE TRYING NOT TO LOOSE THE RETAINING SCREWS. Found out the only Ring doorbell that ACTUALLY runs of hardwired power supply is the PRO version. I'm very dissatisfied and feel i was tricked or mislead by Ring!

WOW! Everything he just said is extremely accurate especially if you live in colder climate. I live in Syracuse ny and i've had the ring doorbell since fall of 2019 and had to charge it several times already. I was going to try the new solar charger but the reviews were bad. They may have received my money but in return i'll give them one of the worse reviews!

I have a Ring Doorbell 2 and its hardwired and its been installed about 2 months and I've had to charge the twice already. I thought if it was hardwired the battery wouldn't need to be charged manually. And also when the battery died the device stopped functioning which also surprised me since it's hardwired. Got me scratching my head.

Mine is hardwired as well but I confirmed the hard wire only allows the ring to ring through the original doorbell system. It won't actually charge the battery of the ring. I got mine installed beginning of May, it lasted until July 28 then the battery died. I was out of town, got back home, charged it on a saturday and it was down to 15% 4 days later.

I prefer the traditional type better. We have one installed in our house.
It's plugged into the mains, and a small 8v supply is provided to the button outside.
When the button is pushed, it makes an electrical circuit causing the bell to ding-dong.
It even has a small incandescent lamp in the button which illuminates the button at all times.

I have owned a Ring 2 doorbell since the start of 2019 and it was working fine; but the battery life has been awful since the start of 2020 after a software update. It now needs a charge in just 7-9 days - even with a newly purchased second battery! I live in a tropical country with temperatures typically between 25-33 degrees Celsius so this cannot be attributed to cold. I have every setting turned off except "Ring Alerts" and I even have a Ring Solar Charger connected and exposed to direct sunlight for most of the day! Very frustrating experience considering all the $$ invested in this product.

the battery life depends on how many times it is triggered (traffic) and how many times you live view it.. it is basically a cheap cell phone.. when i first got mine the battery lasted 2 weeks cause i checked it all the time.. now that i dont do that so much and figured out the motion zones the battery lasts about a month.. you have to fully charge it to 100% .. i never read anywhere that it lasted 6 months.. cmon now..

Have generation 3 ring door bell with chime, will only last 3-5 days from 1st installing… with our normal motions being around 12-14 a day so max is around 70 motions before battery is dead. Installed a transformer for trickle charge and is just as bad. Setting have been changed to lowest for motions - people only. It will only pick up anyone that come down the drive so it doesn’t pick up people who walk past the edge of our drive. Spoke to ring and they said adjust settings (motion alerts etc) and check after 7 days to see if the battery is any better. Live in the UK (east)temperature is good south facing so sun hits the doorbell all afternoon. Probably will change from Ring doorbell

Had Ring Doorbell 2 for 18 months hardwired. Full power until last month when I received a warning that it was 5% power! Charged it but it was losing 10% a day. Bought a new one for £20, ($30) lost a bit of power so reversed wire contacts as recommended and now it is charging the battery again. Old battery obviously at end of life.

The internal battery in your Ring Doorbell is defective.
Call the Ring Doorbell support and demand a replacement or else you'll start a class action lawsuit. Let us know if you do start such a lawsuit as I will join.
They replaced my $216 Ring 1 after it had sat around for a year which was a gift .
In the mean time you may try to hardwire the micro USB charger cable.
Ring 1 does seem to Not charge from the Bell Circuit 12VAC .
Ring 1 probably does Not have a Li-ion battery, it may even be the Ni-MH old memory effected battery .
When I asked Ring about the battery technology they were very cryptic about a response !

I agree, I live on busy street as well and the first few days I had to change my motion detection a bunch of times, if you check your video on a daily basis it's not hard to check your battery level. I've had mine now for 3 three weeks now and my battery level is at 79%

I find it interesting and disappointing that there is no battery icon anywhere on the app that indicates how much battery life is left at any given time. Seems like a simple enough thing to add to the app. Or maybe I just am not seeing it. I’ve searched around.

That means taking the whole doorbell off the house to get to the damn barcode on the back!! Very disappointed!! Going back to a regular doorbell

Hawe a ring doorbell for 2 months now. Maximum time it was holding was 2 weeks (week on average) . Contacted ring, they sent replacement with different screws (mutch smaller than t15) anyways after a week they sent pair of t15 screws with driver. Installed replacement bell hoping for improvement.. Didn't lasted a week! Its not that busy street, got probably max 20 notifications a day. And max 2 answers... Its rubbish.. Temperature in uk is 6 to 12C i guess 45F average in winter. Very disappointing.

I have the Ring 2 and I am not sure if I just got lucky but my battery life has never dropped below 99%. I am on the east coast and never experienced any issue with the weather being cold either. I have had this device for close to 2 years and never had to charge but it is hardwired to where my old doorbell was but I have read that and you stated that it barely or does not help the charge, so I am not sure why mine is working so well. As far as events go, in the beginning and because I live in a townhouse my door is very close to the street and the device would be activated by all sorts of movement and I did not adjust that for a long time but even still once I did adjust it because I have a lot of people that walk up-and-down my street it gets triggered a lot and yet and still battery does not fall under 99%. I am happy that I have not had to charge it but it seems just a little weird.
