Oh wow, he is a Taurus? Me too! May 21st is my day. Though they say I might be on a cusp but I find myself totally relative to all the things a Taurus is.
A fun fact about Danny Carey is that in his search of new techniques, Carey studied tabla with Aloke Dutta (Famous tabla player) who can be heard playing on the live version of the song "Pushit" Salival.
Fun fact: I just googled "Aloke Dutta youtube" and one of the first videos suggested was him performing at CoSM, which is run by Alex Grey, who does Tool album art. Full circle.
That specific version of that track is literally one of the greatest live renditions of a song ever produce din my opinion. The crescendo fully exceeds that of the studio version and learning that Danny's Tabla teacher is on that version made this song 1000x more amazing to me. Thank you!
Thank You from the US for exploring and trying new things!! With all the ugliness we hear from news and world leaders, its connections like this that bring us together from different corners. Music is a cross-cultural universal that helps remind us of shared humanity. Let us continue to celebrate and explore it together!! Spiral Out, Keep Going!!!
I have watched this live video about 30 times. No exaggeration. And I have not gotten tired of it all. It is still just as exciting to watch as the first time.
Listen to PUSHIT the live version from the SALIVAL album to hear Aloke Dutta and RIGHT IN TWO if you want to hear incredible TABLA's from Danny. He samples the sounds into his ELECTRONIC PADS. 🤞✌️
Love the fact that Tool and Danny are appreciated all over the world by various people and cultures. Love your video as well. Take care. BR. From the Netherlands.
Love that shortly after 17:00 minutes…. Ya ya ya, it’s how we all feel listening to the perfection that is tools sound ❤️ great video love the channel!
I so very much encourage you to get into rhythm. I started learning the def drum from a traditional Kurdish, Iranian man. I'm your dad's age and I didn't think i could do it but when life gives an invitation, I had to try. It's amazing to go through the physical and emotional blocks along the way. I find I must remain out of my head or I loose my place. I think it's the same for any kind of musical instrument or genre of music. All the best, Adnan!
Thank you so much Julie for such kind words of encouragement. Whenever I see my dad playing piano, it definitely looks so inspiring and makes me want to go try something too. Piano is a very beautiful instrument and a gracious one too but I like drums more personally. I hope I could try those out one day.
I'm amazed how you've learnt something too, I know age shouldn't stop one from doing anything but it slows down the time you'd spend on being good at something. Just hoping I could use this perfect time and age to learn at least one musical instrument, preferably the drums.
Wow…”…amazing to go through the physical and emotional blocks along the way…I must remain out of my head or i lose my place.” I feel like you just scratched an itch I’ve been trying to reach for years! 🙏
So glad you watched this one, Tool is my favorite band and Danny Carey is one of the greats! He does play tabla and other instruments, but he mostly uses the custom drum pads with many samples that he can switch out. Check out Disposition/Reflection/Triad or Right in Two for more Tool songs featuring tabla.
Three things. #1 Remember that any journey begins with a single step. None of us is skilled at anything without work and practice. #2 Remember to use your mind and your heart to compliment your body. This is where art comes from. #3 Never give up on your dreams.
He is using his mind a little bit but only to count and keep time the rest of it is listening to the other instruments but his body kinda plays on autopilot. Hes in his groove and as long as he keeps counting in his head and hears the rest of the band staying at the speed and time as he has set for them his part almost becomes second nature after playing it over and over again. Thats how it is for me when I play. Danny Carey is the best in my opinion. He is amazing
the build up of this song or the polymetric part always amazes me, each hand is doing a different rhythm and that hi hat with his leg keeps on ticking along, never skipping a beat. Always right on time. Danny is great
Excellent job, mate. I've subscribed, hoping you continue the Tool journey. I watch every new Tool reaction, regardless of who it is, I'm addicted and fine with my addiction 😀 Spiral out, brother 🌀
I’m glad you enjoy this video and yea Danny is one of the best drummer in this whole world and they have been working on this album for 13 years and that why Danny practice so many hours to make it right for 13 years lol 😆 I know this is crazy but, he did it ! Danny have be doing this for 30 or 40 years to play drummer that why he is soooo good ! I’m glad you like this video and keep it going great work !
Tool and Danny are something special. Absolute top tier right now and a source of infinite inspiration for me. Whether you react to them or not, a couple of bands that similar in sound and message are Kolm and Lucid Planet. Both worth a Listen.
Great reaction my friend. It's things like music that bring ppl together, which we should be instead of arguing over petty differences. You seem like a good man, and good will prevail (My favorite part, and I've watched this hundreds of times, is when after they take the pause and all nail it together and Danny gets the huge grin on his face...priceless)
Thank you, I was mainly doing movie reactions. But, had to pause due to some family obligations. I'll return with those in future. Until then, music is what I'd be doing here.
Fantastic reaction it was wonderful to experience seeing danny play with you for the first time, this is my favourite song now that I'm older when I was teenage it was always schism and parabol/parabola and the grudge. Anything you check out by them is great in some kind of way I hope you enjoy finding more of their music :)
My wife is a classical pianist. She now teaches in the studio at home. I come from a family of musicians. After 18 years of marriage, I can't even play twinkles😂. I just don't have whatever musicians do.
You can always add more drums to your basic set as your skills improve and budget allows. You dont have to invest in a set as complete as his as a novice
Just started playing drums about a month ago. And the only thing about motivation and seeing something like this I can say is he got there by leaning into that friction, whenever you get that feeling that you might not live up, just turn around and duck right into it. It's not scary, it can't hurt you, and it is dead fucking wrong, because you can do it.
I loved seeing just how much you were loving every second of the performance! I really hope you can get that drum kit soon. It’s interesting, the way you feel about Danny’s drumming is how I feel about Maynard’s lyrics and singing. Love it all!
It makes me super happy that you want to learn drums. Drumeo is a great online source, both on UA-cam as well as their own site. Also, I've been playing for 30 years. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions. You don't need anything fancy to start. You just need gear that works.
Keep up the good work. Drumming is great for the body and mind. Drumming is a real physical release of stress. It's exercise for me in a way. Keep drumming!
If you like this you will love Niel Peart drum solo live at Frankfurt. Also, you should check out pink Floyd comfortably numb live pulse concert. I've been playing drums since I was 8 years old, I'm now 61. Drums are very liberating so you should go it my friend. ✌️♥️🇬🇧
That's pretty good for touchscreen drumming! Danny's pads are Synesthesia Corp's "Mandala" which have 128 zones in a ring pattern (similar layout as a dartboard?) and they sense 128 levels of pressure (for nearly full strike character), and his rack of blinking things to the far left has all his samples, such as the very realistic sounding tabla you couldn't see because it was virtual. I'm not sure but I suspect he collected many of the samples of himself playing the real instrument. The result is very natural rather than drum-machine rigid. And fewer actual drums to haul around on tour and set up and tune and mic.
great video, check out Right in Two by Tool also. There is a beautiful Tabla solo in it. The lyrics are about how the Angels must be so confused and disappointed in humankind.
E aproveitando, deixo a dica de uma linda música de outra banda para você conferir, se já não conhece: BLACKBIRD, versão estúdio, da banda ALTER BRIDGE! Abraço!
another drummer thats comparable to Danny's skill is Aric Improta. He's probably half his age but is definitely at the same level musically! If you love drums you need to watch one of his live videos 🔥
Greetings from the US. If you would like to see a whole band filled with similar musical talent, I suggest also checking out Polyphia. Their video called Ego Death would be a great place to start as it features a guitar player from my youth who is quite famous and also extremely talented.
A couple of suggestions I think you'd really like: Tool- 2 songs played as one.....'Intension' and then directly in to 'Right in Two' then check out Beard of Harmony's cover if Right in Two...GREAT STUFF!!
Danny always steals the shows and that is saying something because the other musicians, Adam, Justin and of course Maynard, are top-tier professional level musicians at the top of their craft and their game; story goes when Tool were just a garage band, just a musical project, Danny knew them but was not a permanent member, he would play with them from time to time because other drummers kept quitting or getting fired so Danny kind of felt sorry for them, he ended up joining them permanently and helped to create a massive musical legacy with this band.
I enjoy almost all music to some some extent, but I'm mostly drawn to the sound of the percussion instruments. I especially like like congas, but all drums. Of course, I realize piano is percussion too.
Bom dia aqui do Brasil! Seu canal apareceu para mim porque sou um fã alucinado do Tool! Muito legal mesmo, parabéns! Deixo um abraço aqui do outro lado do mundo!

Yes bro my $400 Donner electric drum set is the best purchase I’ve ever made! On had it for two years and already in a band! Buy yourself some drums!!!

How many people on here have watched all the reaction videos for this Danny Carey video and just wait for the next to be Posted?!😂
😅
Guilty as charged!
Up to about 78 now lol
@@guzziguy2011 dude, you are way behind!! I’m sure I’m in the 400’s! Lol
Yes!!! I found "group reactions" so I can see more at one time, like, search "reaction compilation" and you'll see what I mean!
He'll be 62 on 10th May this year, and wants to put out another album within four years

Danny's drumsticks look like hummingbird wings in his hands. ✌️
Proud to be a part of the human society for allowing and encouraging people with passion to pursue it
I have watched this live video about 30 times. No exaggeration. And I have not gotten tired of it all. It is still just as exciting to watch as the first time.
That was a great analogy! It's exactly like juggling. He's juggling time signatures
Peace brother

3:26 get into it my man!
3:52 you’re glee! Aheee
5:47 have you done TOOL Disposition>Reflection?

Listen to PUSHIT the live version from the SALIVAL album to hear Aloke Dutta and RIGHT IN TWO if you want to hear incredible TABLA's from Danny.
He samples the sounds into his ELECTRONIC PADS. 🤞✌️
It’s electrical drum pads programmed with those particular sounds
LOL, You didn't waste any time watching this. I just got done suggesting this a min ago on your first Pneuma reaction. Awesome. Peace/JT
Danny is known as the Human Octopus.......... he plays with more hands and feet than we can see ;-)

It was done by a drumstick manufacturer, who supply his signature sticks
Tool is greatest
I just bought an electric drum kit from a company called Donner. 160 bucks… works great… I’m learning too.
I thought the same, nothing expensive one should get before making sure they really want to do that right

Danny Carey had to start playing drums in order to master playing drums. You should definitely get some drums.

I truly apologize if I’m being ignorant but I hope you don’t get in trouble for listening to this. I love that you love this. Human to human.
Why would I dear? I could play this in my car out in roads lol
so wholesome!

Wow, thank you!
Tool has a song called reflection I've never heard Eastern influences in rock music like in this song you should try and listen to it.
Keep up the good work. Drumming is great for the body and mind. Drumming is a real physical release of stress. It's exercise for me in a way. Keep drumming!

Thank you this was a very enjoyable reaction. It's very interesting to hear a new perspective. You're doing a great job.
Danny Carey was trained in tabla with an expert teacher as well, but in order to pull this off he uses digital sounds attached to these drums.
the tabla sound at 2:50 is an old Korg WaveDrum.
That's pretty good for touchscreen drumming!

Tool is a killer band. But I dig Sufi music also. Singers like Nusrat Ali Khan is spiritual for sure. Thanks for the videos.
nice reaction! i’ve watched over a dozen of these on pneuma, and this is one of the better ones
I can see you feeling the music
Danny always steals the shows and that is saying something because the other musicians, Adam, Justin and of course Maynard, are top-tier professional level musicians at the top of their craft and their game; story goes when Tool were just a garage band, just a musical project, Danny knew them but was not a permanent member, he would play with them from time to time because other drummers kept quitting or getting fired so Danny kind of felt sorry for them, he ended up joining them permanently and helped to create a massive musical legacy with this band.
I love that music can bring us all together. Cheers to you brother.
So happy you did both videos!!
I'm glad I could do the first one which lead to this one.

wish they'd do this view with the descending too
Ok, you know Danny started out learning drum rhythms just like you're doing, except he would have had maybe a beginner student set-up, kick drum, toms, and cymbols, maybe a snare. He worked his way up to that monster set. I hope you enjoy learning, whichever way you decide to learn.

You dont necessarily need a whole kit to start learning lol just go buy a set of sticks and practice basic rudiments and playing on random objects it will being you so much joy and entertainment.
If not now, when? Every journey starts the same way, with that first step. Time to anger the neighbors and get a drum kit. Peace/JT
