The Hunky Dory Days for USA, Mexico and Japan fans continue as their 2023 10th Anniversary Concert series is long gone after they performed a whooping 70 of their over 100 superhit songs. And their big climax at the 17,000 seat Yokohama stadium in Nov 26 was unbelievable! But the 2024 Chapter Two of Band-Maid’s quest for World Domination is another huge success with many new concerts performed, collabs, and the drop of their new album, Epic Narratives. A live Band-Maid experience is not to be missed, if at all possible! Thx, Nath & Case!
Here is a translation of an interview where they talk about Influencer. The person who translated the article did mention, there aren't exact translations to English for some of the "social media" terms, but did his best, and you can get the gist of the conversation. It should give you some insight to what the song is about. You weren't too far off.: Interviewer: Next up is 'influencer'. It's pretty rare for Band-Maid lyrics to be about current trends. Miku: It is (po). At the time I was getting around to writing the lyrics, I happened to do a video call with Saiki and Akane (po). I asked them, "What kind of lyrics should we do (po)?", and Saiki answered, "How about something about those girls on social media that are going around?" Saiki: Miku's learned a lot about TikTok since doing cluppo. She'd show me TikTokers and I had no idea who any of them were, which is why I asked her to write about them. I thought that it'd be a very up-to-date topic that people might find interesting. Akane: She brought up all kinds of new terms. Stuff like, 'secret accounts', 'the dark side', 'trending' and 'hotspots'. Miku: I looked into a bunch of influencer-types and even found the secret accounts of a few (haha). Saiki: She's incredible! She'd come tell me, "So I found this person's blog and figured out their secret account too (po)!", to which I'd go, "Damn, you scare me." (haha) Miku: Ahahaha! I'm really good at sleuthing out these kinds of things (po). I then wrote lyrics by getting into the mindsets of those influencers and looking up the kinds of slang they used a lot (po). I also saw people who got into one-upmanship competitions and put that in there too.
'the reason is the world of democracy' is where they were explaining how an influencer's popularity may rise or fall, depending on who's the flavor of the week. It's the people's choice.
If Hate? is Saiki's savage song, Influencer is Miku's savage song. I think when she writes "The reason is the world of democracy" she may simply be saying that influencers shape their identity and self-worth around "likes" ("votes"), like a candidate running in a farcical race "to the TOP!!"
Miku loves to use alternate meanings of words to convey her message. Democracy in ancient Greece was a pure popular vote. Majority rule. Saiki has done other semi-rap vocals. Off the top of my head, Blooming, and Unleash.
Great reaction guys and Band-Maid does a lot of different genres and Saiki is a master vocalist and spitting bars is pretty easy for her. On the day that they shot this video the temp was around 100F, they said in an interview it was the hottest shoot they've ever done . Miku's lyrics are always interesting and she's prone to use words with double meanings (and puns - she loves puns). Thanks for reacting to Band-Maid.
Shout out to Miku Kobato with her clever and insightful lyrics for the song "Influencer." She again demonstrates that she is a master lyricist as well as a great backing vocalist and a very solid rhythm guitarist. May everyone have a very hunky-dory day. Po!
This was filmed at a rock quarry in the Ishikiri Mountains in Kasama, Ibaraki Prefecture. If you have Google Earth this will take you to the location. 36°22'34.55" N 140°12'13.17"E 😎🤘
The lyric is, “democracy WA SEKAI NI reason.” Notwithstanding the subtitles in the video, I take that to mean, “democracy provides/offers reason/logic for/to the world/society.”
Saiki does rap -- and does it well. Great location (a real quarry), good bass solo, some great sustained notes from Saiki and Miku. Good song -- not on my top ten list, but sold performer.
It's a tongue in cheek diss track on social media is the way I take it. Miku is the only tik tokker and has in the past at least been the most prevalent on social media, publicly anyway. 'Fake' is a word that's cropped up a few times in her lyrics both in Band Maid and Cluppo songs and if you know her history then she's basically referencing her own history of initially only being a pretend guitarist.
The location is real. It's a disused stone quarry at Inada, Kasama in Ibaraki prefecture. It's now a tourist attraction. It has a nice cafe too!
Today, 15 October, is MISA's birthday. Happy birthday, MISA! We all love you!
Band Maid! 🍺😁🤘🏻🕊️

Typical Miku.....a natural born overachiever...."po"
個人的にこの曲のAKANEの創造性豊かなドラムのフレーズの数々が大好きです。
Hunky Dory Day!!

Nice reaction greeting from germany 🤘👍
Democracy=popularity in this case. They aren't dissing democracy as a political system.

Great one as usual. Now I think it's time for you to do something acoustic from Band-Maid.
Sayonakidori, Catharsis, Puzzle or Anemone
I think so too! 🍺😁
