Alzy - Speaking of which, why have I never seen this talked about? Cops, that is. I’ve never seen so much as a Forest Ranger in Matt’s videos. Me too, The way I see it, someone in this field of engineering should be able to design an ac system small enough to cool the inside of these types of cars. And hey, why not figure out a way to take some of the cool air from the ac pump and help to introduce a new kind of "cool air" intake...seems possible but not sure if the power trade off would be beneficial.
Worst decision ever!! The corolla will be worth half its value in 4 years while this car will be worth more. Plus the McLaren can actually help you get a life, I mean a date.

I think this video is a perfect example of how far you've come/how good a presenter you are. Being able to talk about the car so well at (allegedly) very high speed on a road that isn't closed for your use is really impressive.
The same aliens that helped humans build the pyramids came back just to help engineers at the Mclaren build the 720s. This weapon is in league of its own and just puts all other supercars to shame.
If that is true they left too early. The pyramids still stand, while the 720S couldn't make it thorugh the press launch without problems. They should have stuck around and tought McLaren to build a car that works for more than five minutes at a time. That said: If they decided to build it properly i totally agree. I love the looks of it, the sound of it, and it's SO freaking fast.
The first reviews of the 720S dropped in may last year if memory serves me right, so the car is at least 15 months old now. ..and this car managed one launch before acting up. McLaren is famous for building cars with all sorts of annoying issues. Instead of throwing new cars on the market every other week, killing off resale values for their customers, i think they would do a great service to the brand, and their customers, if they spend the time needed to correct the problems with their cars. Instead of people going "New McLaren ey? I'll consider it in a year or two when they, hopefully, have got the bugs fixed", it would be great if they just delivered working cars.
The 720s is the best car I’ve ever reviewed. I love that it’s this fast and rear drive. If I won Powerball, and I didn’t care about resale value or reliability, I would buy this car.
I haven’t driven the 720S, but I rented the MP4-12C for a full day in Vegas, and it blew my mind how fast that car was, especially only being RWD. McLaren’s are just so good!! I agree. It would def be a car I would buy if I won lottery
Glenns Car Collection Oh, I think it is the BEST supercar in the world! So, I agree with you. The mega millions got away from me last night. But, I still have a chance in the powerball tonight. Lol. But, I'm gonna go directly to a McLaren dealership to order this car, if I win. That said, congrats to the mega million winner in California.
I mean comparing this thing to a Turbo S is not really fair. This thing has a carbon tub. Built more like an LMP car than anything else on earth. What a time to be alive.
Wherever you're driving Matt, it looks like a Need For Speed track. Also, really like the picture-in-picture with you talking and at the same time showing the front of the car driving. Most car Youtubbers don't have this, they just show themselves talking and that's it.
This videos makes me so excited about owning this one day, love the way you talk and explain everything it’s really easy to feel your excitement and it’s so infections 😍😍😍❤️
I dislike admitting it, but Zach just can't compete with the on-screen charisma Matt brings to driving a better class of car; perhaps any car. I'm not sure about Matt as a person (with the odd person he seems to hang about with), yet his skills and experience make him best to drive great cars at speed and still smartly chat about interesting things throughout.
markw993 I’ve had the pleasure of hanging out with him a few times, and he is a super chill dude. I had the privilege of sitting passenger during a few hot laps at Laguna seca in the evora 400 about 2 months ago, and it’s crazy go he can be driving a car to 90% of its potential but still have a full on conversation with you and not miss a thing you say. It’s a crazy skill I hope to develop.
rally road is an abomination to automotive enthusiasts Matt, these amazing cars are meant to be driven not stored away in a warehouse to appreciate in value for not being driven :(
C.T. P two sides to every coin....yes they should be driven I agree but it's nice that some are put up and away so in 10, 20, 50 years down the road people can still enjoy a flawless car built today. Just my two cents.
Absolutely, but the same can be said for the housing market (ie it’s supposed to be a roof over your head and appreciate with inflation or avg income increases, etc. and not 10-20% per year as in some markets). Markets will always correct themselves, for better, or worse...
It's similar to what's happening in the art world. Great works of art are being stored in climate controlled boxes to protect their condition and value, whereas they used to be lent to museums for viewing by us plebes. So now no one gets to see them. Rally Rd. sounds like it's going to take the great vehicles out of the hands of stewards that would continue to use, share and take care of these the way they were intended. It's depressing.
The kid's okay when he's driving something he's really comfortable with like a Mustang, but Matt has more personality and more excitement by a country mile. Glad he's back...ish.
McLaren really should spend some time fixing the McLareness of their cars, instead of throwing another five new versions of their existing cars out per week. I've heard several in the know british people talk about a lot of quality issues with the 720S, which is a damn shame. Great looking, fantastic driving car, but it behaves like a McLaren.
I think for as young as they are, and given all the issues with the original MP12-4C, they've come a long way. There are quality issues with every car in this performance bracket.
Earlier today i googled the production years of the 12C. Looking at the many cars that have come from McLaren since the 12C it seems a very long time ago they made that one, but no.. The 12C was built from 2011 to 2014! All the new cars we've seen from them since then have come within a span of four years! That's even more insane than i originally thought. ..and i stand by my idea: First learn to build cars that work, then look into making a new version of them.
Remember that rhetoric about how people love Italian cars because of these types of quirks in reliability? This is the same thing. Goes to show those people were full of it.
Absolutely love Matt's reviews! He has such personality and brings life to this channel! Inspired me to start a channel of my own! Looking to improve every day
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally!!! GO MATT...waited for this video for ages now and then you get a check engine message! DANG IT!!!!!! but it was a cool video!!!
It's crazy that with 720HP this car is kicking ass and taking names. While I'm trying to figure out how much my E30-2JZ build should have to be reliable and quick-ish.
I'd like to ask, Mr. Farah, if you were to choose between a 2018 McLaren 720s and a 2001 Lamborghini Diablo 6.0 which would you chose? If so why? Thank you...
I would like to know how does the 720S compared to your drives on the Huracan VF900 and/or the Performante Hypercharger in terms of acceleration and top end? Or simply put, which car is faster?
he mentioned them @16:00 FI boost varies by application and preference - so there is no "it's x amount faster" when you can just increase the psi (and lose some reliability). tinkering with the 720S's turbos and ECU could make it faster, as well. Regardless of how much a 720S is tuned up to make more power, the AWD lambos are always going have the edge off the line because 720 can't put down full power in the first 3 gears anyway, even in stock form. The McLaren has the edge in aero so it will pull as well or better from 100-200mph, even with significantly less horsepower.
mclaren has been making the best supercars (performance wise not necessarily reliability) since the mp4 12c, its crazy how every car they've made is top of its class performance. Id love to have one one day (even though most likely if I come into some money ill have to settle with a used 570)
So I may have missed it but does it still display temperatures somewhere when in "track mode"? Last thing I want when out on track is to have all the vitals hidden...hopefully it at least has some idiot lights or something on the other screen...
When they do things like that just switch ignition on without turning the engine over for 1 minute and repeat three or four times and then start the car properly and it should clear if there isn't actually an issue. But yea like you say it's a McLaren they all have electrical gremlins & the roof glass cracks etc, it's the side of them most people don't see, that and how they tank in value in comparison to other marques at that level.
Everyday Muscle. I doubt you do, and bet you don't even break five seconds never mind 2.8, I could Jaw bone about launching my cheap ass British car everyday, but that wouldn't be the point would it. Let's see him launch an American supercar in the same price/performance bracket, Oh wait!, you don't have one.
I wonder if they would do an updated version of this car lile a 750lt... It would be awsome to see a more track focused varient... Just like how the 600lt is the evolution of the 570s...
Damn, it's common for McLaren cars to get fault codes but I wasn't expecting any trouble to come up in the video. good thing he didn't try to do a 2nd launch
I'd put my money on the 720S once the cars are moving, especially in upper gears. It might be a close one from a dig as the Huracan should have the advantage off the line with its AWD.
I would love to see every new badass car run up Pikes Peak. We know that a new, basically stock NSX can run it in 10 minutes (which is phenomenal!!!) and it would be awesome to see how everything else stacks up.
Might as well be, that the gearbox temperature went to high with that launch, i think that's why you got that warning. When it cooled down it went away
Just came here from the 600LT video. Been debating between the two as an enjoyable weekend/semi-daily. The comfort of the 720S is drawing though I feel like its too much of a car to enjoy on the streets of Orange County. The McLaren faults do worry me, specifically considering that the 720 decided to show it's true side mid test.
I'd bet the issue had to do with intake air temps. i know my S600 will throw a code if I really heat soak it on a hot day. 10 minutes of cruising will make the code go away and the computer will read an intake air / intercooler circuit fault. (Obviously air to water in the S600). Possible it could be a similar issue as the C7 Z06.
disinferno06 you're insane if you think the Chiron is ugly. Is it the best looking? No, but it's by no means ugly, and most would say is better looking than the 720s
Watch DragTimes to see the car in real action. You'll need a 1000 HP+ Nissan GTR to beat this car. $300k for this car is way under priced considering that it is very close to the P1 in performance.
Terrance Collins the 720s left a 900+ GTR but was finally beaten by a 1200bhp GTR. However there is a lightly modded 720s (bigger turbo wheel & remap) doing 8’s the 1/4 that is quicker than the 1200bhp GTR. It’s astonishing how far other cars need to be modified just to get into the game with a 720s, such amazing engineering.
Terrance Collins you’re not paying just for straight line speed though otherwise I could spend half the price of a GTR and build a Civic that would trounce it for example. The 720s has astonishing performance in all senses of the word, looks amazing and is unbelievably engineered. It really is a game changer in the supercar world.
Possibly shifted too short and something went above the limit of some pressure sensor. In airplanes, you can go above manifold pressure and blow something.
Great job Matt! Loved the review loved the car and it's always a pleasure seeing just how much fun you are having driving these modern works of engineering. I think you and Zack should tackle a couple of one takes together where one drives and relays his feelings and then have the other take over and conclude with their feelings. I think it could help Zack feel a bit more comfortable in front of the camera and loosen up a little bit. That being said I still think Zack does a great job but he just lacks in the animation dept that you(Matt) have in abundance. Great job to the whole smoking tire crew you guys all are fantastic and keep up doing the amazing one takes and podcasts that you do. ✌
launch control in these hyper cars may as well be called "do you want to look cool for 3 seconds and then hand your car over to a dealer for a week? Only for them to check the computer and show you went over the speed limit therefore your warranty is void and you are not covered?"
"Did he just flash me? Does that mean police? ... Alright let's talk brakes"

Yep, unfortunately you can't have everything in one car, unless you build your own.
Correct me if im wrong, but only true automatics have clutch packs and not DCT’s right?
Zatharos, in the case of a dual clutch it has a clutch pack that resembles two multi plate clutch assemblies in one. as it grabs one set it simultaneously lets go of another, allowing for shifts that are nearly seamless in power transfer.

he mentioned them @16:00
FI boost varies by application and preference - so there is no "it's x amount faster" when you can just increase the psi (and lose some reliability).
tinkering with the 720S's turbos and ECU could make it faster, as well.
Alex Fu listen to z30. Check out a channel called dragtimes, brooks destroys everything lol
Dude, both run high 9s. That's really all you need to know, if you know anything about performance cars at all.
aiGeis Look, if you don't know, just say you don't know. Don't pretend you know it all.
Quite simply the best car money can buy bang for the buck.Head and shoulders above the much slower competition.
McLaren makes very good road cars nowadays, but their F1 team is garbage
Naufal Kusumah that's probably the reason their race team is suffering
Ayrton Senna didn't win all those races because he was lucky......
Not garbage, however the top 3 teams have more downforce therefor are faster around the track
GLR where did you find the statistics for that? Companies don’t normally publish that kind of information.
when i see Matt driving instead of the others, I click "like" !!
mclaren has been making the best supercars (performance wise not necessarily reliability) since the mp4 12c, its crazy how every car they've made is top of its class performance. Id love to have one one day (even though most likely if I come into some money ill have to settle with a used 570)
Glad you’re back Matt.
So I may have missed it but does it still display temperatures somewhere when in "track mode"? Last thing I want when out on track is to have all the vitals hidden...hopefully it at least has some idiot lights or something on the other screen...
The the 720s is one amazing machine. Its bends the laws of what we think is possible by a supercar.
Aye he watches DragTimes
When they do things like that just switch ignition on without turning the engine over for 1 minute and repeat three or four times and then start the car properly and it should clear if there isn't actually an issue. But yea like you say it's a McLaren they all have electrical gremlins & the roof glass cracks etc, it's the side of them most people don't see, that and how they tank in value in comparison to other marques at that level.
engine fault after a launch lol
Art Vandelay. Coming from a Yank that fucking hilarious.
Lol i couldnt believe it, i launch my cheap ass dodge hard every day and it has no problems, thats “cheap” American stuff for ya lol
Tony yates we have cars that work though..
bbsp. Thats because their either Japanese or German.
Matt is Back! Matt is fuggging back !!!
I wonder if they would do an updated version of this car lile a 750lt... It would be awsome to see a more track focused varient... Just like how the 600lt is the evolution of the 570s...
This active anti roll system should be on all cars...it is insane in 2018 to have a piece of springy steel connecting both sides of the car.
MATT IS BACK THANK GOODNESS!
What do you think of the 600lt
Matt,
I think the natural competitor technologically and price-wise would have to be the GT2RS -- have you driven that yet?
Where I live 2 of these are blasting around regularly. The sound is way better in real life.
That Testarossa in the beginning, that's a repaint, right? Never saw that colour on an 80's Ferrari.
Damn, it's common for McLaren cars to get fault codes but I wasn't expecting any trouble to come up in the video. good thing he didn't try to do a 2nd launch
Matt: Your reactions are similar to the VF Huracan. Which one of those pulled harder? Did you like more?
I'd put my money on the 720S once the cars are moving, especially in upper gears. It might be a close one from a dig as the Huracan should have the advantage off the line with its AWD.
I would love to see every new badass car run up Pikes Peak. We know that a new, basically stock NSX can run it in 10 minutes (which is phenomenal!!!) and it would be awesome to see how everything else stacks up.
Wow that dash is cool switching out the gauges like that.
How does the steering feel of the 720S compare to a Evora 400 Matt?
Might as well be, that the gearbox temperature went to high with that launch, i think that's why you got that warning. When it cooled down it went away
Unreal Machine, can't wait to own one
Matt 720s, Ferrari 488 Pista or GT2RS? what would be Your choice?
Ordering my 720s spider and I have to say you did a very good review 👌
Glad to see there was some video with this ad.
No chance to join Rally if you live outside of the US ?
One take is back? Hell yeah!
Is that a BUILT insulated tumbler?! I have the same one, I think. Car is pretty good too
Oh, it looks like a YETI...I will say the BUILT tumbler looks very similar...Less than $11 at the Grocery Outlet
Such a bonkers car. Love how it looks, goes and sounds!!
Best looking Supercar out, bar none.
disinferno06 hahaha you serious? Its ugly as hell
918? Ford GT? 488? Bugatti Chiron? It's very nice and the performance is unreal but there are far more aesthetically pleasing cars
I can't take you seriously, the Chiron???? That thing is ugly as sin. 918....close. 488? Yawn
disinferno06 you're insane if you think the Chiron is ugly. Is it the best looking? No, but it's by no means ugly, and most would say is better looking than the 720s
I actually really like the looks of the 720s and think it's one of the nicest cars, but it's definitely not anywhere near a unanimous number 1
Nice good summer 720s.winter time im trynna to go to them other pretty side?
I notice you did not compare the 720S with the 2018 Corvette ZR1. Any thoughts? Thanks!
It's a blood-bath, the 720S destroys it, BADLY!
Watch DragTimes to see the car in real action. You'll need a 1000 HP+ Nissan GTR to beat this car. $300k for this car is way under priced considering that it is very close to the P1 in performance.
For the price of one of these you can easily make a GTR walk by this like its glued to the ground ... still very very quick car though lol
Leo I get that but a 1200WHP GTR is probably 1/3 the cost of a 720S ... if you put 200,000 into a Nissan GTR you are at the 3000WHP mark
A polarizing filter on the front faing camera and this video is perfect ;)
What’s your opinion on reliability between Mclaren Vs Modern Ferraris ( 458,F12, Lusso, etc) ? Same league?
Ferrari still gets the nod, unfortunately. McLaren's track record hasn't been great.
How bad do you think the 720s is going to wreck the Ford GT on DragTimes channel?
I now recognize and know these roads from assetto corsa’s LA canyons - ironically enough I just drove a 720s on it
Great job Matt! ✌
What a beautiful Road where is it ?
What are all those orange poles on the side of the road?
Fantastic videos, and great concept for Rally Road. The link doesn’t work to sign up tho.
$400,000.. goes into limp mode after one launch.
GunfightersINC had a n54 335i, nothing but limp mode all day
this limp mode is faster than many supercars. and quickly recovered from it anyway. this is a press car. been abused.
Jimmie Steinberg i thought the n54 was better than the n55. Or was it something to do with the HPFP
Euro trash
@@andrewnorris5415 I don't consider anything he did abuse that's what it's built for
Most likely did that because it overheated after the uphill launch. Went away after it cooled down a bit.
One of the nicest cars I’ve seen.. breaks in 15 mins wow
launch control in these hyper cars may as well be called "do you want to look cool for 3 seconds and then hand your car over to a dealer for a week? Only for them to check the computer and show you went over the speed limit therefore your warranty is void and you are not covered?"
God damn.
How would you compare this to the McLaren GT?
Hi Matt. I Trully believe that the midengined corvette twin turbo may one day have the same or better acceleration than the 720 s
720S is a beast
