    This video came right on time since I was thinking of starting a challenge by myself, my hair is currently mid-back and my goal is hip-length. It's great to have a group of people doing it too and makes me feel more motivated😊.

    My grow to protective is 4 neat basic corn rows. GAME CHANGER for my thick growing natural hair. I’m in between armpit and bra strap btw and I re-moisturize every four days and I don’t use a shower cap. GAME CHANGER IN GROWTH. When the braids reach Meek Mill stage, I throw my wig on in public. I also work from home. I wash my hair every three weeks. Working myself up to every two weeks.

    • @blueorgin
      @blueorgin Рік тому +1

      @@larissaforde7885 spray it down, oil the parts and any where I can get under the braids, and then I take a finger dip of grease mixed with my moisturizer running down the parts and a second time on top of the braids and down the braids to the ends. Every week I re-do the braids. Yesterday was a moisturize day and I re braided it in three chunky corn rows. I also WFH/hybrid so when I have to go look at those people I just Diana Ross wig 💁🏽‍♀️. GAME CHANGER!!!

    I was using rose water, a cream, leave in conditioner, olive oil, peppermint oil and vitamin e oil blend in my hair. I bought a scalp massager, a bonnet and a satin pillowcase. . I wash and condition my hair every 2 weeks. I deep condition my hair whenever I feel I need it. I love to put my hair in protective styles. Hair shrinkage is real. I am enjoying the journey.

    My length goal for the end of 2023 is around midback length! I’m so excited to grow out my hair I also cut my hair about 5 months ago to collarbone length and it’s growing back so nicely! My goal is to retain length and maintain the thickness of my ends by trimming my hair every 3 months. I’m only cutting 1/4” at most so I’ll only loose 1” at most by the end of the year.

    • @SimplyJuliaLauren

    so happy I ran into this! I recently started wearing my natural hair out 24/7 after years of wearing wigs and damaging styles (heavy/tight braids) and needed that extra help on what products to use now that I wear my hair full time. I’m all for natural /handmade products so this was very helpful.
    My hair has always been long but I feel like it stays the same length. I’ve been at bra strap length for so long i’m hoping in 2023 I will hit waist length.

    I'm down for this challenge. I was almost bra strap length and then the RV park I live in caught on fire and messed up the water. Now I've been dealing with hard/dirty water for this last year and only found a good hard water shampoo in May but by that time my hair had been shedding so excessively that I didn't notice how bad my breakage was until I got my shedding back to normal. I straighten my hair twice a year, Sept & Dec, When I straightened it in September I saw the extent of my breakage and decided to cut my hair. Now I'm back to shoulder length and am happy to participate in a doable growth challenge. I can't cornrow either so I prefer twists as my protective style. I've also went from washing my hair once a week to once every two weeks. I've gotten a water filter that does everything except soften the water so I have to keep that in mind. Oh I also permanently dyed my hair black in June so that may have also contributed to my breakage. My pfp was taken last year in November and I'm upset that my hair doesn't look like that anymore but now that is my goal. To get my hair back to that healthy state and then I'll be happy.

    I’m definitely with this challenge. But I have a question. All 2022 I have been braiding my hair once a month washing once a month. I’ll admit I wasn’t using any oil but I washed and deep conditioned every month. However I only grew 2 inches all year!😢 Do you have any advice for what I can do? I’ve started taking a vitamin now as I think that would help from the inside with growth

    • @aisha-3857
      @aisha-3857 Рік тому

      Like the protective styling was all year , washing and deep conditioning once a month, oiling scalp rarely. I had a baby in March so maybe that’s the reason I had so little growth but I was taking my prenatal.

    • @SimplyJuliaLauren
      @SimplyJuliaLauren  Рік тому +1

      @@aisha-3857 Congratulations on motherhood!!
      Let me start off by saying I'm not a doctor or expert: just an enthusiast when it comes to hair care.
      The first thing I'd look at is how often you wash your hair. If you have more product build up or sweat more often, you could need to wash your hair more than once a month. I wash weekly because I weightlift.
      Childbirth, regardless of prenatal vitamins, alters our hormones in a multitude of ways. I won't say that that IS contributing to your hair growth, but it could be a factor. If you're breastfeeding, make sure that whatever you're doing from the inside out is safe for baby too.
      That being said, oils, washing a bit more often, less tension on your scalp and working from the inside out may offer a boost in your growth journey. If you're using added hair, try just braiding your own hair or twisting it; make sure it isn't too tight. Don't be afraid to try something new. Take lots of pictures to truly see the growth journey and trust in the process. I believe in you Mama!!

    My natural hair journey has been one I’ve put a lot of time and effort into but I feel like the only way I’ve seen it grow thicker and longer is after I’ve had it in protective styles. Do you recommend keeping it in those and cleansing periodically or once a week or so?

    • @SimplyJuliaLauren
      @SimplyJuliaLauren  Рік тому

      I personally like to wash my hair while it’s in the twists every week. But that’s what works best for me.
      I’ll make a wash day video soon with the full routine and then in 2023 I’ll be going live every wash day for my Patreon. 🤗

    Porosity is key to finding what works. Do you know what porosity you are?

    • @SimplyJuliaLauren
      @SimplyJuliaLauren  3 місяці тому +1

      I personally am no longer a fan of hair typing as this changes based on age, environment, pregnancy, diet, medications taken, etc. These trends (in my opinion) are overrated and another way to categorize and separate those in the natural hair community instead of just focusing on the self.
      If you look further in the channel, I got asked so many times I decided to do the "test", but again, the way my hair acts will still change.

    • @gaynor101
      @gaynor101 3 місяці тому

      @SimplyJuliaLauren So porosity is not hair typing. It's how porous your hair is. For instance, you know how some things make your hair feel amazing and others don't? That has to do with your hair's porosity. For me, coconut oils are a no, no, because I have low porosity. There are a few things I stay away from because of my porosity. It's scientific.
      Thank you for sharing your experiences with the Indigenous Strandz method. I am looking for someone on UA-cam who is following her with low porosity hair. She has high porosity, and some of her products won't work on my hair because my cuticles are already tight (low porosity), so I don't want to close them anymore. Also, Castor oil is too thick. You see where I'm going from. I don't care too much for Andre Walker's 1-4, a-c hair typing.
