    Once I started deep conditioning weekly and trimming just my jagged ends every 3-5 months, I noticed such an amazing difference. Less tangling (virtually none unless I did a lot of styling that week), retaining more moisture, I went from low porosity to normal, more shine and thickness throughout the strands, and so much less breakage throughout the week and on washday. I chopped off all my hair in September 2020 and did this consistently up until now (Nov 2022). My hair is currently between shoulder and bra strap length depending on if it’s straightened out or not. If your hair is prone to dryness, breakage, and buildup on the scalp & you have finer density hair, I really recommend weekly wash and deep condition. Even when I get lazy, I start to see the single strand knots and brittleness coming back after more than 10days of no wash day. I have “4a” hair btw

    I’m African American and my bestie is Mexican. Went to the same hairdresser to get highlights. Her new growth hair needed to be highlighted way sooner than mine. It was drastically faster, in fact double the length in the same time. In 1 month her hair grew an inch and mine 1/2 an inch. So the rate of growth really is different based mostly on genetics.

    • @brittanywilliams8653
      @brittanywilliams8653 Рік тому +90

      I highly doubt that. What actually happened is her hair is probably straighter than yours, thus it appears her hair grew faster, compared to African American hair that shrinks up, especially at the root.
      If someone with straight hair is next to someone with curly hair, of course the straight hair appears longer due to the shrinkage of curly hair, even if the curly hair and straight hair are the same length.

      @@brittanywilliams8653 No she was speaking of the new growth at the ROOTS, not the length of the strand. Besides, hair growth RATES do vary.

    • @brittanywilliams8653
      @brittanywilliams8653 Рік тому +68

      @@deva190 And again, new growth at the ROOTS still look vastly longer on straight hair compared to coiled afro types. The vast majority of people grow six inches a year, black, white Asian.
      You can search up black women and white women shaving their head bald and compare the length after one year. The white woman's hair will look longer UNTIL the black woman straightens their hair and they are both the same length. There is no huge discrepancy in hair growth regarding race as so many love to believe.

    • @dollyrevenge98
      @dollyrevenge98 Рік тому +16

      @@brittanywilliams8653 There are actually difference in hair growth rates between 2 individuals even between 2 individuals of the same ethnicity. It is said that asian women tend to grow hair faster as well up to 1 inch a month compared to 1/2 an inch all averages.
      Also hair tends to grow faster during pregnancy because of hormones kicking in.

    Thank you for mentioning genetics. People will literally ignore all healthy hair tips and blame long hair solely on genetics. When your hair is damaged, its because of bad hair care habits. But when your hair is long and healthy, its magically because of genetics.

      @@user-ll5cc6pg4y That still isn't genetics. Most people with long hair keep it simple. Wash, condition, leave in, and one big plait or twist or bun.
      Hair retains length more easily when manipulated less with tools, brushes, and heat. That's not genetics, that's, again, practicing healthy hair habits.

      You can try using henna and mixing it with mayo, honey and yogurt an oil that you prefer, olive oil or sesame oil. It won’t make your hair dry بإذن الله. If you don’t want the dye instead of henna you can use green lote leaves podwer its called سدر in arabic. You can also mix it with the above options.

    Thanks for the advice! I'd say my hair is similar to yours. I've been deep conditioning, making sure I eat healthy, etc. I have questions: 1) I've never done a proteins treatment. Should I start doing it, or is my hair fine? I read online proteins treatment is good when the hair has been dyed, straighten, etc. I haven't straighten my hair in years and I avoid color hair dye. 2) What are your tips for trimming ends? I have lots of hair so I get nervous if I trim the curls will be uneven. I'm used to the hairdresser at salons straightening my hair and trimming but I now have my mom trim for me. I dislike salons since I always feel like they trim too much of the ends. But I'd like to learn to trim my hair myself every few months only when I see breakage starting to happen at the ends. My curly hair is currently up to my bra length when stretched but I'm hoping it can grow longer to waist/hip length. Not stretched is past my shoulders/my back.

      you definitely need to try keeping your hair in braids or twists withOUT gel. I love doing this because I don't have to worry about my hair in the morning, worry about it drying out, getting tangled, or thinning. Then after a few days you can have a braid or twist out. I have been doing this for months and have seen tremendous health increase in my hair.

    1)The more you treat your hair like a newborn and protect it, the less often youll need trims.
    2) hair grows at different rates, asians usually grow faster, our issue is moisture and breakage. Nutrients oils are good for the scalp and dont forget to extra peotect your ends! Snd seal with oil!
    3)protective styles :) youll have to figure out how often to change yours and dont do the same one with the same parting

    My hair is a little longer than yours but it doesn't have the volume. That's the hack I'm trying to figure out.
    Also hair does grow at different rates. Nutrition on the inside makes a big difference. If your skin and nails reflects your diet why wouldn't your hair.

    I agree that genetics plays a huge role in hair growth rate, but people also fail to understand that even genetics can be influenced by environmental factors. This means that the way that you care for your hair can overtime increase the health and rate of hair growth, which can alter your hairs genes to grow more efficiently, quickly, and healthy, and that can be passed on to your offspring, enhancing their hair growth as well.

    Make sense..I have your length but not volume, overtime i have lost volume and even d curl pattern has changed...however I used deep conditioning once and my hair was falling out as I wash it out after the prescribed leave in time, I also ended up with rash along my hair line and areas of my scalp... I don't use aloe because it really itches my skin and scalp...olive oil I will try...I use to use olive oil leave in conditioner...I only wash with shampoo once a month...I work out n practice healthy eating...so I guess it's stress or hair product that's making my hair fall out as if I am on chemo 😔

      I am not sure if you'll get this but my hair was thinning and falling out and it was my undiagnosed thyroid condition and my anemia. Go get your thyroid and anemia blood levels checked out by a primary care doctor it could save your life because you can get sick from those things but they're totally curable when once you start taking the right supplements for them your life can get back on track. Also you may have minerals in your water are hard water or like me you may have salt water marshes influencing your shower you might want to get a water softener for your shower head I've heard of some UA-camrs using a Brita water filter for their hair to shampoo it and for spritzing

    I need help with my hair. I have high porosity hair and so it needs more moisture, so I add product to my hair everyday and my hair loves it and put it in a 2 braids to protect my hair. The only way my hair feels good when I damp it, if it's not damp then breaks off still. I also tried to be more gentle than usual and still breaks. I damp and apply product and then a oil to be moistured. When I am done I look at my hands and I see 1 or 2 breakage of little hair, it's not a alot tho. I added protein to my hair recently too. I don't know what to do!!

    • @FartCracker880

      If you have curly hair it’s actually advised to wet it every day ! Curly hair is naturally pretty dry so rinsing it while showing or spraying it down with a spray bottle is actually good for hair. The only issue is when you wash it w shampoo nd conditioner everyday because then you’re stripping already dry hairs of it’s natural oils. If you have straight hair I’m not 100% sure if the same rules apply
