I raise my coffee and salute you Peter, thank you for making Sunday mornings special for all of us. As you put it, a professional make-over or as the youngens say, a Glow-up!
Hi Digital Gorilla Every time Peter posts a video, I always look forward to your comment! Enjoying my morning coffee with his video now. What a tree in the video! Hope I get to create one like that one day Cheers:)
That's a really lovely maple. Personally, I *always* prefer an 'oversized' pot. Not only does a larger pot allow for more creativity in the landscape elements, it also helps to keep watering less of a stressful regiment. I regularly use pots that would be considered massively oversized by bonsai professionals, but it means I have a lot more flexibility with all aspects of the tree, as well as not needing to pay such close attention to them.
..it's also a question of perception maybe? I perfer oversized pots as well because overall it looks more naturally to me. Since my trees seem to like it as well i guess its a good compromise.
I am learning about bonsai specifically japanese maple bonsai. I am trying to imagine the above tree in a larger pot and .. YES, .. i believe it would look better in a wider, low profile pot. And watering would be less...
The woman's husband had shown his skill maintaining the bonsai. Just like any other living organism which suffers such a loss, this beautiful plant will need time to adjust to the new care provider & the professional re-potting treatment offers additional support through the transitional process. Heartwarming viewing.
“I know people will criticize me for it.” I’m not reading all the comments but I highly doubt you are going to get any critics on your channel. Your channel is one of my two or three favorite on youtube. Very few use the platform to spread their love of their subject and it is readily apparent this is your main focus. Thank you for producing all of these videos and bringing in so many guests to share the experience.
Definitely a beautiful maple(with big emotional value) that is been taken good care of. Now it wil have some more good years to come, in honor of the previous caretaker! Nice one Peter and team! 👍
That tree turned out so nice! Great work Peter and great advice on repotting this time of year without a greenhouse :) I think In Japan with their exhibition trees they temporarily put them in a smaller pot just for the exhibition, then once they are brought back to the nursery theyre put into larger pots to get them healthy again. I prefer how they look in more larger pots, they seem more balanced.
Love the back ground story. Shows you how your work carries on and has inspired so many of us. The tree looks so much better in its new pot it really shows it off. Thank you both for sharing.
Indeed, mind you I have a plant that fell out of its pot abd I've seen the roots have shrunk. So I'm going to try to repot that into a smaller pot and use my greenhouse to revive it. We shall see where that goes 😬
that happened to me my dog was playing with her sister and the fell on my olive tree it was removed from the pot and a lot of roots cut, I put it inside on my window, now I have it outsiders it pass winter inside.
What a wonderful video. Sending love from California in USA. I found your channel due to my sudden interest in bonsai after taking care of a few succulents for 3 years.
Really was a lovely tree, I’m used to seeing the larger specimens from Peter and I’m surprised how much I appreciated this one for being on the smaller side
Such a lovely lady for sharing her story of the tree. I hope she gets to enjoy it for many more years :)

Just an update. I got my first maple tree today :)

Yes, that oval pot is a lovely match
@@Stettafire Glad u like it too, they really go together.
What a wonderful memory of her husband this must be. Great work as usual. Thanks, keep growing
That truly is a lovely tree. It has been well kept over the years.
You can really see the love and gentleness! I agree!
If my wife doesn't take my trees to Peter Chan or Ryan Neil when I die, then I'm not dying.

Where do you get your pots

Such a beautiful maple! Lovely pot selection Peter and great lesson in re potting 🙏🏻
I’m always amazed at how rough you are with the trees/roots, and yet your trees do so well, obviously. Thanks for your informative videos

I wish I would have started bonsai in the 1980s! But, better late than never. Gorgeous tree.
This really is a beautiful tree with a beautiful story.
Beautiful color for this time of the year.
Remember guys, spring is time for repotting. Peter sensei is doing it now because a greenhouse is available.

That's an archetype, for sure!
That was the rare "Root-over pot" style!😉
I love maples and this episode !!! You always put so much care into everything that you do and you explain every step of each process. Thank you

Beautiful maple. Wow, it looks fantastic.
I love his confidence trimming, handling, repotting... So many people "fake it till you make it", but don't seem to ever make it.
You’re such a thoughtful and a true gentleman, Mr. Chan ! Thank you so much for this video, and may God bless you always 🙏🙏🙏
That maple is beautiful.
Truly amazing watching a "Master" at work, and heart warming to see a family devoted to keeping such a beautiful tree going!
"I will only need to trim..." says Peter. I love deshojos with their little star-shaped leaves.
Just beautiful! I trust you know what you are doing at this point! LOL!! JUST WOW! The bed result is just stunning! Well done all!
