This is the most mind blowing video about volca beats I have ever watched. I have one and every day I learn something new about this little and powerful drum machine. Thanks for this video
thanks so much! very kind words :) i really love the beats, i think it's super underrated. I'll be making another beats video pretty soon. within the next few weeks i hope. keep an eye out :)
Already knew about the oscillation technique but stepwise motion sequencing is an incredible find. Great with the stutter for fills and also for melodies with the PCM samples. A nice detail is that it doesn't record on the other steps (compared to conventional motion recording) so you can easily manipulate the stutter/PCM on those steps too.
In this right moment I was with somebody who I want to sell it... but now, after watching this video I won't let it go, this is the best volca beats video on UA-cam!!
thanks so much :) happy to inspire, i do actually have another one coming as soon as i get settled in my new place. keep an eye open. maybe in a few weeks
Wow. This is killer. The bonus at the end, is that 3 steps looped with a pcm sound and then playing other sounds over top with the key step? Sounds so cool. You’re a sonic wizard! Thanks for these videos
WOW... I've only recently discovered your volca videos. I cant thank you enough. VERY VERY enlightening. I have Bass, Keys, and Beats, and I'm always looking for new ways to mess with them. Like I said in your other video, "I SWEAR you are gonna blow them up!" kudos to you! 😂🤣
i personally don't mind the beats stock sound, but if you want to mod it i say go for it...with the knowledge that there's always a risk in doing so. i've built a lot of modules and made some mistakes that cost me some cash, but it was worth it to me for the experiences i gained.
I have a question. Can you save two different sequences and have them play over the top of each other. One looping in say 12 steps and the other at the full 16?
yes and no...you can't have multiple patterns play at the same time from the memory, but if you have a sequencer like sq1 or keystep you can play one sequence from the volca memory and one from the keystep/sq1. this is a really fun thing to mess with because you can for instance set a plain hat beat on the volca then do random stuff to control the other voices like kick and snare. keep in mind some weirdness happens when two trigger signals are going to the beats at once. its a lot of fun though :)
This is seriously the best Volca beats video I’ve ever seen. Amazing. I’m going to try my Keystep 37 with mine tonight. What exactly is happening there, though? Does each key trigger a separate drum part?
it does yes :) i’m planning a video specifically for all the weird stuff i’ve found pairing midi with the beats. might be a while but it’s in the works
also thanks for the compliment :) you’ll probably find that the keys are quite spread apart, like i don’t think it’s possible to play all drum parts without switching octaves.
working on it actually :) want to get at least 6 tracks finished before i release anything to the public. i do have an IG for poorly recorded random patches if you're interested haha @mrapartment_
Volca beats was my first, stutter plus sample speed motion rec makes it versitale! I really think its become new 808. What about effects on it and recording?
@@stanislavsidorov5631 i agree with that completely, i just bought a cheap compressor pedal and it works wonders for getting all the sounds to a good volume. the "part level" knob on the unit itself can mix each voice individually. i'm not sure if that information is saved in the memory or if it resets every time you power cycle. that might be something to explore in the future. i like overdrives/saturators more than distortions personally because i feel it keeps more fidelity of the signal while adding edginess to the sound. distortions on drums i feel take out a lot of the bottom end and that kind of sucks. i'm really drawn to vacuum tube pedals. behringer makes a pretty cheap vacuum tube pedal and i think it was on sale at sweetwater recently. may want to check that out. as for reverb, if you like clean, meris mercury 7 and if you like dirty beautiful noise when the sunexplodes, or EHX holy grail is really nice too. i can speak from experience with those pedals.
I bought the beats again cause it doesn't get enough love, and quite honestly I think it sounds sick when sent thru a decent mixer and a kick as keyboard amp like a Roland kc500.This vid is mad gnarl.Very nice gonna try this.👽🤖👾⚡🪐

@@mr.apartment I feel the same. Every time i watch a vid like this one i learn something about this machine. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
That little jam at the end is worth the price of admission alone
thanks so much :)
Its a great little unit, but that snare sounds like it's been squashed by an elephant!

Also it goes without saying but nice video.
i have almost all most of volcas,I never think of them like this...hey man!!! you have amend my relationship with them again...thank you.
that’s absolutely why i’m here :)
happy to hear it

Great techniques! You should fix that snare though. it will be great after.
beauty is in the ear of the beholder
@@mr.apartment Totally agree, idk what is the problem with the snare, for me after sounds good, people just complaing about everything they can...
@@spkoftdvl beauty is in the ear of the beholder i guess :)
Lots of ideas. Thank you for sharing
glad you liked it, part two is coming at some point, keep an eye out for that
oh... ok... you DID beat up the volca beats.. my bad. your demos are awesome! get a minilogue XD... i'd love to see you destroy that! 🤣
haha well i'm glad you found it :) i had an xd and sold it to buy some eurorack nastiness. i've started my journey to the dark side :)

honestly it’s been so long i don’t reserve exactly what’s happening here 😂 but my plan is to make a part two to this in there near future
remember **
@@mr.apartment your volca videos are so good. Keep them coming!
I need to watch this one a few times.
:)
My Volca Beats has been in the closet for over a year: I think it has an unbearable sound. After watching this video I feel like pulling it out again
that’s the highest praise, happy to inspire :)
You say that to every volca video!
Good to see the Beats getting some love. Clever stuff...
thanks :) more coming in the next few weeks
Really abstract beats. Awesome!
thanks :) i have another planned, but it could be a few weeks. the one i'm working on now is killing me haha.
I like how the kick shakes the camera :)
volca earthquake :)
I do like it for its simplicity.
it’s a great piece of gear
Volca beats is so underrated..
I love mine
completely agree!
F*****g sweet dude
T****s :) i’ll have another coming soon, some really crazy tricks with the keystep pro, also just got the volca bass. stay tuned :)
You ever think about making a new volca beats video? This one is 2 years old.
your mom is 2 years old...think about that
this guy is unravelling the dirty secrets of every synth.
the dirtier the better :)
Thanks man! Very creative findings!
glad you found it useful! i have another video planned on techniques with a keystep. some really fun things you can do. cheers! ;)

cemegonuts haha many thanks :) maybe i’ll have to light one on fire just for you buddy
Dude this video is off the chain! Regards!
glad you liked it :)
I've been messing with VB for a year trying to figure it out. I've watched so many damn vids and this is hands down the best one I've ever seen 🙌
thanks so much :) currently working on a second one that will hopefully be even better
very helpful, thank you. specially the unorthodox stuff B)
You recommend modding the snare?

5:00 dude you sintetized an engine with a volca beats I cant believe it!!!
welcome to the machine
it's a cute drum machine, but come on best on the market? nah.
more sound variety would be a plus, but i think for ease of use, portability, unique functionality, and price it’s a damn solid synth
Whoa!
:)
That shit sounded bad ass at the end.
glad you enjoyed it :)
How did he hit 600bpm?
it's in the global settings menu, if you google the manual it shows how to get it done. good luck!
Awesome tutorial , thank you !
Perfect tutorial>>>>
aww thanks :) happy to help
WoOOOooW. Sometimes I realize that even the "lowest level" modern gear is like 1,000x more capable than what was available even just 20 years ago.
just like landing on the moon with less computational power than what's in a standard modern cell phone :)

Seems like automation gating can be used really well with the previously demonstrated "fill" way of playing. Lots of fun to fiddle with! :P
totally
I do need a simple and punchy little drum machine so this one will certainly do the trick, thanks for the upload matey 👍
anytime skip :)
That was amazing! This gave me hours of quarantine homework/distraction! Can you do a vid with the key step and the beats?
i have one demoing the absolute destruction pedal, but yea at some point i’ll be doing more videos. glad you enjoyed 😊
the way you play this thing like a musical instrument, it blows my mind
it is a musical instrument :)
So many hidden little features in this box of beats :D
oh yea, when i get settled in at the new place planning to make another beats video, plenty of things i have to share :)

i thought we already were?
this is awesome, i have 2 of those, never knew the func + stutter thingy, now im addicted to it
yea! makes it super playable, and i’m sure you can make some cool polyrhythms with two doing the stutter thingy :)
This is badass
gracias amigo

i think it's carved a nice little place for itself in the industry. what about effects? like what do i use?
@@mr.apartment i mean reverb or overdrive, because sometimes in mix it feels poor, but when you listen it directly through headphones it sounds great
