Fantastic work! Ive been modding my volcas for a while and these are all awesome circuits to build off of! Dont overlook the Midi Input pads either, those are always my first task when 'breaking in' a new volca
Great video! I'm wotking on the separate outputs and the "lofi mode" wirh their effects. I will trybthe tempo mod maybe later.. I only have one problem: the output for the snare sends an high white noise and the snare volume is very low. I tried using both the pins you recommended, but nothing change. The only good volume without noise, is the pod marked as "anare, tom, kick", but of course it brings the kick and the tom also tonthe snare output😅 so, I did a bridge from that pot the one maeked "kick" trying to isolate the kick, and it worked! But I still have ne snare and the toms... If I try to link the "snare, tom, kick" to the "tom" (as I did for the kick), I can ged rid of the tom from the snare output, but if I plug my headphones to the tom output, no sounds come off! I'm completely lost, back to the beginning of the individual outs than. Do you have any suggestions to get ris of the white noise for the snare channel?
Thank you for all of this, I love mods like these. I didn't even know about the sub-mini toggle switches, I was wondering how I could possibly fit more things in there as I already have a standard mini switch for snares in there and it's tight.
I'm just going to try C78 snare mod once i get better a soldering but it is great to see the possibilities. Is great fun getting a Drumbrute Impact to control Volca Beats and then blend the sounds from both too
for the tempo mod... yoi don't need any circuit modifications... just check the manual... before you switch on the volca press and hold (func?) then you can change the tempo range from 50-200 to 10 to 600 by pressing a key (number?) and save with pressing the rec button... volca starts and has the extended tempo range... cool mod you've made... can only imagine how frickly it was soldering the mainboard... thumbs up, buddy!!
This mod doesn't have any relation to the internal tempo setting you're talking about. This allows you to have 2x physical, hardware-based tempos that you can save and switch between.
@@DASdrones ahhh, thanks for your answer.... didn't know that... must be cool... anyway, though I'm soldering this and that myself... I'm not too sure about doing it on this tiny thingy... well, I could try at least -- if the machine gets broken it is not a too big of a loss... got my mine cheap 2nd hand... seems like ppl in general aren't too keen about the volca beats in the area where I live...

Fiinee... but, the only mod that didnt quite work as expected was the double tempo. Even before doing it on my own, i modded a friends volca for this double tempo addition and it did not work as expected as well. I thought it was a something grounding on other not desired something , but when i did it on my own it came out the same behaviour. The behaviour of my attempt of double tempo in my volca and my friends is that the dpst switch when flipped the tempo goes to 240 bpm and the 250k pot just attenuates the brightness of the led , the other switch that manages the change of slow and fast tempo does nothing :(. I thought this was because my volca wasnt updated to 1.4. I did update the firmware and still no luck. ...Any further suggestion? or consideration for the double tempo? I dont know whether the schematics is not showing anny ffurther connection or is it me not following properly the instructions. My pulldown resistor is 1k , because with 10k the Led barely was glowing (and i know this beahviour isnt enough to make the double tempo to work) I am no longer afraid of any volca PCB, bring it on!
Hi. Sorry to hear you're having trouble. My only thought might be that you're connecting the DPST wires to the wrong lugs. The potentiometer path and the LED path should never be crossing and affecting each other. In the diagram at the end, the top two lugs and the bottom two lugs should connect when "on." If it's any help, here's a photo of the prototype wiring that shows each connection of the wires. The only difference is I was using a DPDT switch, with one side connected to nothing. @@DASdrones awesome, it diiiiiid work! I did it to a friends volca. That shi is hard, way too small. Now i want a Volca beats too. Dont know if i will get the strength to perform such minuscule soldering again
@@finonomastropiero4261 Congrats! The volcas are indeed incredibly hard to work inside due to their size. I haven't had the courage to do any others yet either. ;)
The Dual Tempo Presets mod doesn't change the global range of tempos for the unit. It adds a way to switch between two tempos you set via tangible hardware knobs.
@@finonomastropiero4261 Using the 2 orange taps labelled "Snare Out" in the video schematic/layout will send only the snare out, but there isn't a way to remove the snare from the full stereo mix (that I know of). If you want total control, the best option is to make individual outs for each of the channels and control them with an external mixer.
You will need extra mcu like arduino to extract the tapping and transforming it in the control value that these potentiometer controls (in the mod). So you tap, get the math and transform it in the proper pwm signal so the volca jumps into that bpm. Another way could be by midi in if the tap is implemented which I don’t remember… but it should since it follows clock ;)
Interesting... almost seems like if you were careful about the settings you could make a better snare by using the toms as a snare...but then you have no toms...🤷🏻♂️
If somebody modded these where I live then I'd actually buy one. Import and shipping is too high otherwise. Why doesn't korg just build these things properly so we don't need to mod them?
I think there's menu diving setting for enabling 10-600 BPM tempo without modifying hard ware

Is it a good idea to add a pot also to a kick switch?
Great job! Thanks for sharing :)

Cool!
Why are dislikes disabled on this video but not other videos I'm checking out today?
If the potentiometers are just used to atenuate the noise signal, can i use B5k pots instead? It is what i have for those mini sizes
I'm sure those would work, but it will affect the tonal variety a bit over the sweep. The best way to find out is to experiment with what you have!

Does the snare has two unused outputs to be routed?
Either of the Snare outs will work to get a direct audio feed from that channel.
