Surprise surprise! Another maker here to sing your praises. I've always been a big fan of granny squares, but I never thought I would be able to get this technique down. Not only was able to get it down, but this was the most fun I've had seaming together granny squares in my entire life. Major kudos to you. I hope this video never goes away.
Still loving this video Robin! You are such a a great teacher with the patience of a saint! Much continued success to you, my crochet guru and mentor! ❤❤❤

And seeing this has forever changed my joins! I'll never join the old way again! Thanks for your time. You are a credit to the crochet community.
this video is so clear and so well paced!!! im using this method to make my first blanket and i think it’s what i’m gonna use for all my future ones!! it’s so tidy. definitely tricky to figure out how to handle all the squares at first, but i know i’ll get a knack for it. thank you for this!
I’ve made one granny square blanket, and joining the squares didn’t seem that hard at the time, but it turned out to be a NIGHTMARE ! I used the slip stitch method on the entire surface. I can’t wait to do another granny square blanket. Maybe a blanket for each of my wonderful grandsons!!! My daughter’s son is 8, he used to watch Mikey from The Crochet Crowd, with me he was about 4-5 yrs old then, and he thought it was cool that a man could Crochet 🧶. We spent many days watching UA-cam Crochet Videos and I was able to hone my skills that I learned from my Grandmother when I was a young. She made every grandchild a granny square blanket and I still have my kids blankets from almost 40 years old from my oldest son! My daughter had twin boys and I made several blankets that for them, including each of them have a “Call The Midwife.” I asked my daughter to please hang on to those so maybe they can pass them down to their children later in life so they always have something beautiful to remember me by when I’m gone. So Sorry for writing too much but this really made me think good thoughts about having my kids and all the Granny Blankets!!!🥰😊💞🌹🌻🌺
I'm with everyone else who I've read their comments -very glad I had this come up in my UA-cam feed! Long time crocheter, have never found joining squares a fun time 😕. Will give this method a go next time 😊. Thanks for all of your expertise 🤓!
You have just given me the biggest gift. I am so motivated. I have hundreds of unlined grannies. I'm going to have a new vest to wear Monday! This is the video I've been waiting my whole life to watch. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
FABULOUS! I have saved this video for when I"m ready to join! Your cat had me searching for MY cat who I thought was locked out the house somewhere, then you explained and solved the puzzle!
I have not made anything from Granny Squares yet, but I've been watching Jenna Phipps, and she sent us here to see how you did this. Quite a system. I'll get some squares made and come back to watch this again, and follow along. I subscribed. Thank you for showing us how you create these beauties.
The joining process was one big reason why I haven't made a granny square project. Even though this method takes a little more concentration, I💖 the idea of only having to secure 2 tails instead of a million.
I'm so lucky that I am one who learns quickly on how to do things crochet. Truly count my blessings. I watched this video, was a tiny confused at first with the joining of the second row, but once I finished watching it, it all became clear to me. Thank you very much for this! Now i can finally replicate a granny square blanket a woman who was like a great grandmother to me made 70+ years ago! So happy!
I just finished making 42 large granny squares and was just about the join them all the old fashioned way, with all the boring sewing-in that entails. Then I found this technique, and I can't thank you enough!!! It's brilliant, and it's saving me hours.
This tutorial really saved my bacon! I started furiously crocheting right before Christmas to make a granny square cardigan for my mom. I realized much too late that the squares I made were too small. But with your tutorial I was able to connect and expand each square and now it's the perfect size. Thank you!
Best video ever!!! Thank you for this. I've been crocheting for 40+yrs and never done granny squares until recently. I'm to the point of joining all my squares and have watched so many videos on joining squares that my brain hurt. Then your video came up and I seen the thumbnail and was like that's what I want my blanket to look like. So now I'm into making granny square blankets even more now. You have me hooked on this method.
I am glad some body use this method for over 70 years i have been joing my grany SQUARE this way I am so pleased to see you are a good teacher good and cleare God bless you keep up teachig
this is honestly the best video I've seen on joining granny squares, I didn't even have to finish the whole video to connect them all, thank you soooooo much.
This is how I learnt to join granny squares from my grandmother 40 years ago. I love granny squares and this join keeps the beauty of the granny stitch continuing. I've made baby blankets this way and receive many compliments on the look. Thank you for sharing ♡
Dear Robin, I crochet for many years but I never knew how to continuously join the granny squares. Your video is very clear and helpful. Thank you very much.
Aw! Steve is getting worried because she cannot figure out WHO you are talking to! The 3rd Meow was "WHO ARE YOU TALKING TO!?" then... "Never mind, can I get a treat please?" Thanks for the video! It was great, I have a whole bunch of granny squares that my aunt gave me and I really did not know how to link them together. This is perfect! (Meow to Steve!)
I thank my lucky 🌟 the day I found you, I have learned so much, your a fantastic teacher,I am now turning circles into squares and joining them together . Wow so pleased , thank you a million times ,
Genius join! Love it! Working on a granny square full size bedspread and was searching for methods to join and found your tutorial. Sooo glad I did! Thanks so much!
Love!!! Love!!! Love!!! I have been crocheting for over 50+ years. I’ve made plenty of granny square projects and joined them all by whip stitching the squares together. Im now in the process of making many lapghans for seniors…this is absolutely genius!!! I love granny square and this has taken my passion for them to a new level especially now that I have a wonderful new way to attach them. I can’t say thank you enough for this tutorial. Your instructions and demonstrations are great…you rock!!! Stay safe and be blessed ❤
This is the first time I have seen this method and I have been crocheting for a long time! I haven’t done granny squares in a long time because I was so tired if sewing them together, but you have made it tempting for me to try making another one! Thank you so much for sharing!!❤️
Also I love your way of making Granny Squares in that you start with just one set of double crochet in the corner. I find this method the best as starting/ending are almost invisible 💜
WoW! after years of sewing 100's of granny squares together this is revolutionary!! I am ENJOYING joining my 120 granny squares - thank you so much for sharing this - great instructions!!
You’re such a great teacher and I love your accent, I’m from the US. I couldn’t help but giggle when Steve wouldn’t stop haha. Excellent tutorial, thank you for teaching me something new!!
I am using this method now on my first Granny Square afghan. I have always been a little intimidated by joining squares. Your tutorial is awesome and you go at a nice speed. I took it step by step and rewatching certain sections I am now able to understand the process. I just had to break it down I can already see my afghan finished in my mind. Thank you for another great video.
I have been crocheting since 1965 and I love making granny squares except for joining them to make a finished product due to all the ends I would have to weave in. With this method I look forward to making a completed project now. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and for the clarity of the process. You are the best.
My mind is blown just as you said!! I've watched multiple videos on how to join & never comprehended. I've seen the patterns & not been able to understand either. You're a fantastic teacher. The way you laid your squares & described was perfect!! I'm looking forward to trying this method on my next blanket. Thank you so much!! Big hugs!!👍❤
Thanks for sharing this. I always use JAYG and try to work out the best way to avoid starting with a new piece of yarn. Whoever came up with this originally is a genius and you explained it brilliantly. Just joined all my squares with one complete 100g ball of DK. 😊
I've been a crocheter for a very long time. This unique way of joining hexagons without sewing block to block is truly amazing. They are very decorative and lay flat. Thanks Robin for new ways of achieving old things.
Dear Robin, You have totally changed the crochet game for me,&I am eternally grateful 🙏 It wasn't easy I'll admit, but for anyone reading this comment I have to say YOU CAN DO IT DONT GIVE UP!! Thanks Thanks Thanks Robin!! 😊❤
Thank you so Robin. I have never made a granny square blanket like this. I'm going to give this a try. I have been crocheting a few years and there us always something to learn or a different style. I love your style of teaching you show everything and make it so easy to learn. Thank you for your time. Live and peace Kerrie 💖
I've just started crocheting in the last two weeks and I'm making a granny square blanket but had no idea how to attach them all together. This is perfect and you're so good at explaining how to do it, thank you.
Just got back to crochet after a 30 year hiatus and was looking for how to join all of my granny squares... Came across this and LOVE it! Thank you for making it so simple to get the hang of!
WOW!!! Wish I knew this method sooner. I love my granny sqaure blankets. This will be a big time saver and no millions of ends to sew in. Thank you!! You did an amazing job with the video and explained everything very well.
I've been crocheting off and on for most of my life. I'm 61 yrs old now. I've never seen an easier way to join squares. I'm saving this video to use when my current blanket is ready to join. This looks so much easier than the more traditional method.
Pretty new to the crochet world and your videos are so easy to follow. Haven't liked the finished look of a lot of other joining methods, but love this and you have made it so easy to understand. Thank you.
This is the best method of join as you go I have tried. Your instructions are very detailed and it is complicated to learn but well worth the effort. I used to get all confused as to how to join the squares all on the right side. My centers at the corners always looked sloppy. This method solves both of these problems. I took pictures of each step and am going to write my own directions. I would be happy to share with you. Thanks again for a great tutorial.
God bless you! I watched so many videos before this one and all of them showed this method by joining the last square, but you started from the first and it all makes so much sense now!
I just watched the granny square tutorial and then this one! I just wanted to say you're a very good teacher and these videos were super clear and helpful!!! im in the process of making my very own blanket and im very excited! thank you for your videos
This is one of the most useful crochet hacks ever! Came to rewatch this today to figure out if I can use this method to join granny squares for a bag, and I think I’ve figured it out!
@@HookedbyRobin Oh! Thank you for asking! So far I have a stack of daisy granny squares, and still working on mapping out how I want them. But I did draw out the continuous join, and it looks like it will work! 🧡
I just finished my first ever anything with the join as you go method and my life DID change!! I will never ever join granny squares another way ever lol. Thank you Robin!!!!
I love this method. I don't do many granny squares but when I do I always come back to this video (which I have bookmarked) to refresh on the method. It's so clever and yet so simple. Thank you for putting out this video. I'm not sure how many times I've watched it, but it's quite a few. ❤
Just used your tutorial again, it's so awesome and easy to follow! I very much appreciate the time stamps. That made it so easy to go to where I needed a quick refresher. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Robin, thank you so very much. I love your teaching style. I have struggled for years trying to read patterns, what a waste of time. I have finished 2 of your projects and now I'm finally making granny squares. A blanket I've always wanted to do. You are the Best!
This was exactly WHY I found Robin; just made a zillion blocks during recuperation from surgery (gotta accomplish something ya know--can't just sit!) and hadn't a clue how to join them. So GLAD to have lucked out and seen this tutorial! :)
Thank you so much for this video! My great Grandma made the most BEAUTIFUL afghans. I didn't get to learn to crochet before she passed and had no clue how she would join her squares as she went. I know this HAS to be how she did it! I can't wait to make my first blanket now! ❤️
@@marysmolarz3741 cherry heart YT made a granny square similar to this one in king size. She held it up and no worries about the weight. Her blanket is called battenberg, after the cake.
Thank you! After wayyyy over thinking a few spots, and re-playing segments a gazillion times, this has been super helpful to get my head wrapped around. A gazillion thanks for taking the time to video this game changer!
Thank you so much for this! I gave up joining granny squares decades ago because it was such a pain, and have just made afghans from one big granny square. I’d like to try this. Your explanations are very clear.
Really cool glad I came cross this video The only thing that kept me from doing A granny was the connecting of the squares Will take another go at the granny
I’ve got piles of granny squares and, before today, no real knowledge of how to join them and thus finish several projects. I’m thrilled to have this knowledge! I’ve made granny squares as a “take along project” numerous times over the last 30 years, but never known how to join them in a pleasing way. Now, I think I’ve got it. Thank you SO much for an excellent, easy to follow great tutorial that will help me to finish many, many granny square blankets. Well done!
Oh my goodness, thank you! I finished a bunch of squares and needed a clean and easy way to join them. It’s looking fabulous! Thanks again, and happy new year to you.
I felt I needed to share. I constantly come back to this video, every time I have a request for a granny blanket. I use this join every time since you introduced it to us. I even share it in all my Facebook crochet groups whenever someone new asks how do you join granny's!!! Thank you so much for sharing this technique...it is a wonderful easy way to join.
I thought it was one of MY OWN cats shouting, paused the video and went out to let them in. Discovered then both were sleeping peacefully in their armchairs. Puzzled I went back to the video and only then you said it was Steve. :D
Very young clever and well demonstrated. I have a ton of granny squares from a swap years ago. I didn’t want to join them together but now I will. Thanks for sharing.
Thankyou. I have always joined my granny squares with double crochet. ( single crochet if you're American) but really didn't like the way it looks. This method is so much prettier, and you made it very easy to learn. So once again, thankyou.
I've made granny squares as I learn from seasoned makers but had no interest in the stop and go of stitching them together, until now! So grateful to you for sharing your techniques and knowledge!
Thank you so much for this video. I'm self taught and a lot of the written instructions have been confusing to learn from. This video has made it so much clearer! I've even shared this with my mom and daughter and we're excited to give it a go.
Many thanks for your great video. Enjoy hearing stev talking in the background. For some reason I keep forgetting when to chain one , the yarn you are using looks lovely and soft.
I am in the process of connecting my squares. What fun! Although I had to undo an entire row, cause I forgot a cluster ugh. It was still fun. Thank you so much for these complete instructions.
I had almost given up after making more than hundred squares , was struggling to sew them together . This video really helped me , so grateful 🥰🙏🏼sending you 🌈🦋🌸

Zip, zipping along with you!! This is truly the easiest and neatest way to make this blanket!! *smiles* Thank you!!
God bless you! I watched so many videos before this one and all of them showed this method by joining the last square, but you started from the first and it all makes so much sense now!
I am so glad it has helped Muntaha! 😀🤗 x
At 4:56 when Steve meowed I thought it was one of my cats 😂 this is just the video I've been looking for!
😂 Got to love cats and crochet! 🥰🧶
I just watched the granny square tutorial and then this one! I just wanted to say you're a very good teacher and these videos were super clear and helpful!!! im in the process of making my very own blanket and im very excited! thank you for your videos
wow, i never thought JAYG would make that much sense, especially the “route” you take to get all the squares connected. really appreciate this video?
This is EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for, thank you so much for sharing!!!
You’re so welcome Har, I’m glad it helps.😃🧶
This is one of the most useful crochet hacks ever! Came to rewatch this today to figure out if I can use this method to join granny squares for a bag, and I think I’ve figured it out!
I’m glad it helps Amanda, how is your bag going?😃
@@HookedbyRobin Oh! Thank you for asking! So far I have a stack of daisy granny squares, and still working on mapping out how I want them. But I did draw out the continuous join, and it looks like it will work! 🧡
I’m sure it will.🤗🧶
This technique is just what I was looking for. Thank you.
I just finished my first ever anything with the join as you go method and my life DID change!! I will never ever join granny squares another way ever lol. Thank you Robin!!!!
THANK YOU! I usually avoid projects with more than a few joins, now I'm ready to tackle that granny square coat :)
I love this method. I don't do many granny squares but when I do I always come back to this video (which I have bookmarked) to refresh on the method. It's so clever and yet so simple. Thank you for putting out this video. I'm not sure how many times I've watched it, but it's quite a few. ❤
You’re very welcome Robyn, I am so pleased you have found it useful.🤗🧶
Just finished making a granny square coat using this method and it came out great, thanks
In the process of making grannies for a blanket. So glad to see this video. I will be trying this out once I finish all my grannies. Thank You!!!!!
Love this method, never made a granny square afghan before cause I didn't like how they were joined!! Thank You
This was exactly WHY I found Robin; just made a zillion blocks during recuperation from surgery (gotta accomplish something ya know--can't just sit!) and hadn't a clue how to join them.
You’re so welcome Emily, enjoy making your blanket!😃🧶
I love this way of join as you go. I'm definitely going to be following along as soon as my squares are complete.
it's my favourite way to join for sure!
I am making a queen sized granny square afghan. I am afraid that the weight will pull the squares and the jayg won’t be strong enough. Thoughts?
@@marysmolarz3741 cherry heart YT made a granny square similar to this one in king size. She held it up and no worries about the weight. Her blanket is called battenberg, after the cake.
Thank you! After wayyyy over thinking a few spots, and re-playing segments a gazillion times, this has been super helpful to get my head wrapped around. A gazillion thanks for taking the time to video this game changer!
Steve the Cat is too lovely, he sure talks.
Thank you so much for this! I gave up joining granny squares decades ago because it was such a pain, and have just made afghans from one big granny square. I’d like to try this.
Your explanations are very clear.
Really cool glad I came cross this video
The only thing that kept me from doing
A granny was the connecting of the squares
Will take another go at the granny
I absolutely love this technique... I used this to join 378 squares together for my daughters temperature blanket.. Thank you so much for this video x
Thank you so much, I love how you have explained everything. I am new to granny squares and wanted something that was easy and looked good!
So glad I found this video!! I've never understood how to do this until now. Thank you ❤
I’ve got piles of granny squares and, before today, no real knowledge of how to join them and thus finish several projects. Well done!
You are very welcome! So glad it helped :D x
That's superb!! I will teach it to my students in the very near future! Thank you!
You are a life saver I have 30 squares waiting for me and more to come.
Oh my goodness, thank you! I finished a bunch of squares and needed a clean and easy way to join them. It’s looking fabulous! Thanks again, and happy new year to you.
Thank you for this tutorial, I have never been happy joining granny squares, but today just joined a granny blanket that I am happy with.
Fantastic!
I can't believe how fast you work.
Olympic!

Literally life altering- THANK YOU!
You are very welcome!!!
You are a great teacher. So easy to follow you.
Thank you for teaching me as I've gone through years of not being able to create so many patterns.
Thank you very much for this tutorial. You’re a very good teacher. I’ve subscribed to your channel and will watch again.
Incredible. Beautifully explained. At 71 years of age, am still learning. I’m your student. Thank you for the great tutorial.
"Steve is distracting me with her shouting" love it lol
I thought it was one of MY OWN cats shouting, paused the video and went out to let them in. Discovered then both were sleeping peacefully in their armchairs. Puzzled I went back to the video and only then you said it was Steve. :D
Very young clever and well demonstrated. I have a ton of granny squares from a swap years ago. I didn’t want to join them together but now I will. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Robin great tutorial, this is going to really help me speed up when joining my granny blankets. 👍💜💐🙂
Thankyou. I have always joined my granny squares with double crochet. ( single crochet if you're American) but really didn't like the way it looks. This method is so much prettier, and you made it very easy to learn. So once again, thankyou.
It does give a neater finish doesn’t it? Thank you Marian! 🥰
On my final row os squares , this is so easy, excited to start border soon, thank you so very very much.
I've made granny squares as I learn from seasoned makers but had no interest in the stop and go of stitching them together, until now! So grateful to you for sharing your techniques and knowledge!
My mother made about a MILLION granny square afghans in her lifetime, she would have LOVED this method.
Check this out I bet she would of been even faster using this method

Thank you so much for this video. I'm self taught and a lot of the written instructions have been confusing to learn from. This video has made it so much clearer! I've even shared this with my mom and daughter and we're excited to give it a go.
Thank you Rebecca! That is so lovely to read.😃🧶
I’ll have to watch it a few times..but really it’s me not you...💕❤️💕I love the way this method looks!
