Thank you. I can now work on a plan as I intend to swap out a few squares as doing for my teenage grandson. Looking forward to learning your jayg as your tutorials are so easy to learn from even though i am left handed❤️🥰🌹
I learned crochet from your channel and 1 other channel.I just can't wait to make the whole blanket.I have just finished my granny square and it looks gorgeous. Thanks sooo much.I LOVED this video. Thanks again.💕😍
So happy you are learning to crochet and enjoying it! I learned to crochet when I was 11 years old too...and now I'm 70!😘 Hoping you have lots of fun with your crocheting and make lots of pretty things!👍
Very cool that you learned at 11😊. I learned while I was in junior high school/middle school by watching my older sister 🤓. I remember my first project was an all white blanket (big enough to cover myself) with a black edging. Wonder what ever happened to it 🤔. I'm now 58.
Thank you for your amazing tutorials! I've learned so much from you! I have an autistic child and I was looking for a hobby that would relax me and your tutorials have helped me a lot. I especially love the colorful tutorials! 🫶🏻
I've made A LOT of no turn Granny Squares because that's how my gram taught me, when I was 18. Fast forward 50+ years, I always added stitches between the sets of 3. I also used 3 chains on the corners. Love how these look tight & neat so you have taught this old dog some new tricks. I also bury my thread as I go so it's not overwhelming to do them all later.
Robin I just finished your petal squares in rainbow colors I love the way it look! Thank you so much for giving me the the confidence to try something new! ❤❤❤❤
I do the same. I do three chains for the corners and one stitch in between each set of 3 double crochets. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I thought I had learned it wrong. 😂
I always get so excited after I watch one of your videos. Then I grab my yarn and off I go!!! But for some reason, my crocheting just doesn't go as smoothly as yours does. I have no idea why. You always make it look so simple. I can crochet, but I think I have 8 thumbs and 2 fingers, so it just takes me longer. Hahaha. Thank you again, Robin. I just love your tutorials and, as usual, your gorgeous yarn.
I have been crocheting since December 2023, so am really a beginner. I am teaching myself to crochet by watching videos and reading through all the comments on the various crochet groups. What I love about your videos is that you always give the instructions very clearly, and always give a reason for why you're doing something. That makes a huge difference to someone who's learning. I was a teacher for 17 years and know good teaching when I see it. Great job, Robin! ❤
I have looked closely at several other channels and believe yours is the best for granny squares. the chunky yarn makes the video easy to follow, and your voice is clear and instructions easy to follow. I also like it that you start with the magic ring, and start additional rounds with a standing crochet, which I prefer to a chain. Thankyou so much from a beginner (with a pile of previous lumpy granny squares) for posting such a helpful video.
I know I’ve seen the free standing dc before but what baffles me is that I don’t use it, and I’ve been crocheting for a while now 🤨 I will say, though, that I’m loving the way you have taught us to do it and especially how beautiful and perfect the granny square looks. So thanks for this tutorial 🥰 There is always something to be learned 😊
A a complete novice, you are by far the easiest to understand crochet instructor. Ty! I absolutely love the granny square! My toddler grandson responded that he would like me to crochet a blanket with all the colors---rainbow colors. Bright colors happen to be my favorite too!❤❤❤❤
This is fantastic ! .. as a new crocheter i am ecstatic about your pattern .. i can write it down as you are saying it .. its so much easier than music playing and a few words on a screen ... i will check out more of your patterns to keep ... 🎉❤
What makes hers so perfect, is the standing stich. She dose a little hack where she yarns over to join, as a pose to under. Also note that she joins in the middle of a cluster as a pose to in a chain. Joining in a chain can add a tiny bit of yarn an make it lean. She also doesnt add a chain inbetween clusters. When you add the chain between it also makes the total square looser and lean. All the little hacks that she dose straightens things right up. I bet it took her a very long time an many many many granny squares to prefect it. I applaud her for sharing.
I’ve never seen someone make a magic ring that simply! Girl! That was awesome! I can’t wait to try it! I love working into the magic ring instead of slip stitches
That came out so beautiful. I have been wanting to start crocheting for such a long time but could never get around to it and I finally gave it a try. Your video was so helpful! I can’t wait to keep making more
Well they say you learn something new everyday and I just did! Can’t believe after almost 50 years of crocheting I never heard of the standing stitch! It will now be newly learned forever stitch! Thank you Robin.
You are an *excellent* teacher, Robin! This granny square tutorial is very easy to follow, and I fully agree that leaving all the tails to weave in at the end can be very daunting; much better to weave them in as you go, before adding the next colour. 🌈💖
Your videos have helped me learn to crotchet so many stitches and become confident free handing projects! I love your explanations, pacing and the way your show your stitches! Thank you!
Hello Robin, I've made a few of your blankets over the past few years, and loved making every one of them. Some, even more rhan once. I just recently learned about the "standing single crochet," and loved it. Thank you for now teaching me the "standing double and half double" crochet stitches. And your granny square is the nicest one I've seen yet. I have struggled making granny squares for years. For whatever reason, I quickly learned to dislike them, and have avoided using them for that reason. But yours is so nicely done, so neat and square. I just might give them another go-round. I also struggle with weaving in ends, but never thought to treat them as you have done. I always leave long ends so I can weave them up, down, whichever. I am so loath to having something I've made and given away, come apart. But it's not always easy finding the best, and neatest way to do that. Maybe you could do a video on various ways and methods for hiding them neatly? I might learn an easier yet better way from you?😊 Thank you for your tutorials. Always extremely well done, and well thought through to cover every detail.
Well Robin, I have been looking for a straightforward tutorial for eons. I am so very thankful I found yours. I’m off to cover the world in granny squares. Are you familiar with mosaic crochet? If so, can you post that next please? Thank you so much!
I've just watched your other video on how to make a magic ring and I thought it was a bit fiddly for me. When I saw this video with the way you made the magic ring with just one finger, it seems so much easier to handle the ring. I'll use this method fr now on. Thank you for the video. Ive always love your clear instructions on which stitch to go into. 😍😍
Well, isn't that hilarious. I've been using the Standing Double Crochet Stitch for years without knowing it was an actual stitch 😁 (& by years I mean decades 😂)
Same here. It was how I learned 20+ years ago. My aunt who taught me has been doing it for 75 years. I showed her this and she didn't know what to make of it. Her grandmother taught her this way as well.
Same. I did a standing crochet stitch kinda by accident. It just seemed the only way to do it. I honestly can't remember if anyone showed it to me in the past, but when I started crocheting again after not doing it for awhile I couldn't remember and just did what made sense. 😂❤
i am trying to learn this crochet skill. Of all the videos I have watched , yours are the best. ....very easy to understand.....thank you. I am encouraged and will try this pattern . Emma
Robin, you're such a great teacher. I refer a lot of friends to your channel. I mostly knit, but crochet all my blankets. Do you think you could do a tutorial on a rectangular granny " square"? Please ❤
Your tutorials are brilliant thank you so much. I'm quite a beginner at crochet but have managed to follow your instructions with ease. Must admit my attempts don't look as good as yours though 😅 I was wondering if I wanted to make the rainbow granny square in 1 colour how I would move up each round 😊
Im definitely goimg to have a go you make it look so easy ive not had the confidence to do granny square's yet ive been just doing backwards and forwards learming different stiches 😅😅 xx
I always thought you should turn your work when using the same color so it doesn’t go wonky. I’ve always made my squares one sided if I changed colors like you have, starting in a different corner than where I bound off. Your square is perfect and I love the colors. Granny squares can be tricky. Thanks for the tutorial, Robin, it was very helpful. 🫶🏼

@@HookedbyRobinthanks again for everything, Robin! This one just came up again on my recommended list, so I've watched it again. It is still on my to do list, but is getting closer to the top! Can these grannies be done with the same number, or more rounds, but less color changes? ❤
I was just wondering yesterday if we could skip the chain three in granny squares. I didn't know standing double crochet existed! Thank you so much for the very clear tutorial as usual :D
Finding an alternative to the chain three is necessary as there is less yarn in the chains than in a double crochet stitch, and that contributes to bias. I found that when I use the standing double crochet there is very little, if any, bias, even if I always start in the same corner.
