Did you forget that Ohtani is also a starting pitcher who throws 100 & 101 regularly last 3 seasons? Even there're many young brilliant young players in MLB rising every year, there's only one Unicorn 🦄 Ohtani who can play 2 ways in excellency in MLB so far. Even as talented as Skenes, he also gave up hitting and can only concentrate in pitching when he became a professional baseball player!

Ohtani was able to succeed in his two-way game player both pitch and hitter because of his unique and unprecedented way of thinking and actions in the process of his development.
He was not born as a unicorn, an alien, or a superhuman from the beginning.
He has voluntarily devised a method, and through hard work has transformed himself into a player who can succeed in both pitching and hitting!
In youth baseball days, there would be large number of boys who want to be an ace pitcher and the No. 4 hitter both, if they possible.
However, the reality is that many boys player give up to be both, as they go on to serect specializing in one or the other, whichever is relatively more dominant.
Shohei Ohtani may have been one of them, but he is a rare person who, even after entering high school, did not give up that dream and continued to want to play both pitching and hitting if possible.
He is the kind of person who never gave up on his dream of doing something that no one had ever done before.
Naturally, many adults around him must have tried to persuade him that it was reckless.
But Ohtani did not listen to their advice and did not give up on his dream.
Even as a high school student, he was someone who dared to try to realize a dream that was said to have little chance of success.
He analyzed himself to determine how he could reach the pinnacle of both pitching and hitting, grasped his current situation, identified what he lacked, and analyzed and wrote down what he needed to do to achieve his goals.
He came up with specific methods to achieve his goals, including ways to strengthen and improve his baseball skills, processes to strengthen his basic physical strength, effective training methods, research on dietary methods to grow bigger, his outlook on life, his way of life, and even his lifestyle. And he has continued to do so from his high school days to the present..
This is what makes Ohtani unique, and the producer who made Ohtani what he is today is Ohtani himself.
This process is recorded in the 81 matrix sheets of the development scenario he drew up himself when he was 16 years old.
Although Ohtani is blessed with innate qualities, he is neither a unicorn nor an alien, but a person who is able to continue his daily efforts and self-improvement in order to achieve his goals.
That is what has made him what he is today. What we should learn from him is the process of thinking and acting to achieve his goals that he practiced.
As you can see from the photos and videos of Shohei Ohtani in high school, his body then as a boy was tall but skinny and completely different from today's Ohtani. Even when he joined a Japanese professional baseball team after graduating from high school, he was still as skinny as a different person from today's Otani.
In order to build his current physique, he devised not only a training regimen but also a diet regimen that dictated what, how much, and when he ate, and he practiced it stoically and without neglect. And that made him to be the Shohei Otani of today.
Of course, his stoicism was influenced by his high school baseball education in Japan, and it is undeniable that his childhood was influenced by his upbringing in a Japanese culture with a long history. If Ohtani had been educated and raised in the United States with the same DNA, there is a strong possibility that the Shohei Ohtani of today would not have appeared in the MLB.
DNA is not the only genetic factor that determines our personality, mindset, and even body shape.
Environmental factors, the environment in which a person is raised and the culture in which he or she is educated, can make a difference in the life of the same person.
Ohtani was not born a genius, but a genius who can work hard to improve himself.

      Thanks for your reply.
Today, with the development of technology. There is a large amount of information circulating globally and every country shares ideas, culture and scientific knowledge. Therefore, at first glance, it appears that all countries are much the same. However, in reality, not all are the same.
Culture, behavioral patterns, and traditional religious behavior differ due to (1) differences in the way each country was formed and (2) the length of its history, (3) its dominant-subordinate relationship with other countries, and (4) differences in natural environmental factors.
There are in fact differences between Japan and the United States.
The following is a rough comparison of the two countries, simplifying and writing down only the extreme parts.
I have only described the elements, so please do not misunderstand. If you have any questions, please ask.
      (1) (Differences in social norms and behavioral culture between Japan and the U.S. (mutual, collectivism and individualism))
/Japanese people place importance on group behavior and prioritize the smoothness of relationships within a group over individuals.
/Americans value the existence of independent individuals.
(Characteristic behaviors of the Japanese place value on the following: (1) harmony within the group.
      (2) In public places, act not to disturb each other and others.
      (3) Maintain cleanliness in public places. (4) Help each other if someone is in trouble.
      (5) Refrain from self-assertion.
      2) (Differences between Japan and the U.S. in terms of land and natural environment (differences between a continental nation and an oceanic island nation))
/The United States is located on the North American continent and has large areas of mountains and plains. It has four seasons, but there are also differences in climate depending on the area. Its land area is about 26 times larger than that of Japan.
/Japan is an archipelago of volcanic islands in the Pacific Ocean, isolated from the Eurasian continent.
Because of its volcanic origin, about 70% of the country is mountainous, with few plains, and the population is concentrated mainly on the plains.
The climate is generally temperate, with four distinct seasons, although there are large climatic differences by region,
The climate is warm, humid, and rainy, with abundant water resources, green vegetation, forested mountains, and almost no barren mountains, dry deserts, or steppes.
(Japan is an island nation on an oceanic plateau, rich in natural resources such as water and greenery, but also prone to large-scale natural disasters (volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, typhoons, wind and flood damage, heavy snowfalls in winter, epidemics, etc.).
      3) (History, religion, population, etc.)
/The United States has a population of about 340 million, was founded about 250 years ago, and has a large Christian population. English language is spoken.
/Japan has a population of about 120 million, and the Emperor has been in power for about 2000 years,
Communal life has been settled since the time of the Jomon pottery culture, an estimated 14,000 years ago. There are many archaeological sites.
Religions are mainly Japanese Shinto (since ancient times) and Buddhism (imported 1,300 years ago), with Christianity officially imported about 150 years ago. The language is Japanese.
(When Japan imported Buddhism, it left the existing Shinto religion as it was and coexisted with and paralleled both Shinto and Buddhist religions.)
(In addition, although there was a period of about 600 years during which the Samurai were in charge of police and military authority as Shoguns, all Samurai regimes were appointed by the Emperor to serve as military police and practical administrative units, and no overthrow of the Emperor was ever committed even after the Shogun assumed real power.)
Note that there are significant differences between the languages Japanese and English that arise from cultural differences in structure, purpose, and expression.
The above is just a short list,
The characteristics of the Japanese baseball education Ohtani experienced can be clearly seen in the 81-square (9 x 9) target sheet (a.k.a. mandala sheet) he drew by himself at the age of 16 under the guidance of the coach of the baseball team at his high school, Hananomaki-Higashi High School.
The sheet outlines what he needed to accomplish and how he needed to do it in order to achieve his goals when he joined the professional baseball team three years later at the age of 16.
(He followed the sheet to the letter and developed a plan to become a two-way player, pitching and hitting, and even now it looks like he is continuing to do so.)
The structure of this sheet can probably be found on the Internet, and in the wake of Otani's success in MLB, the application of this sheet creation has become a popular and noteworthy trend in human resource education and goal-oriented behavioral education in the Japanese educational community.

      @@TiagoGomez-hb9te Thanks for your reply.
There are four factors that form the cultural differences between countries and regions: (1) genetic factors, (2) natural environmental factors, (3) interaction with other cultures in other countries, and (4) the length of time of historical tradition formation.
While differences in genetic factors create differences in racial appearance, I believe that differences in natural environment and length of time of historical time line have a greater influence on differences in thinking and behavior and cultural formation.
Without looking at the differences, the human species is basically not so different. Ego, self-esteem, discipline and self-control are common to all humans.
The question is not whether they exist or not, but the degree of their existence and what they perceive as important and what they prioritize as important, which is reflected in their culture and teachings.
Most of the people on earth live on continents, with a small number of people based on islands like Japan. This phenomenon is based on the fact that the physical environment of the terrestrial landforms on the earth is more prevalent on the continents.
Why did the Japanese build a culture that prioritizes stability and maintenance of the group by mutually refraining from egoism, instead of placing the assertion of egoism first? (I believe that self-esteem is only a difference in the way it is expressed or not expressed, but the substance remains the same.)
In order to maintain the stability of the group to which they belong, have they placed importance on self-control to suppress the ego and to limit free behavior within the group?
In the Western historical view, there is a comprehensive image of history in which Asian countries have had their citizens oppressed by powerful political forces, but the unique culture that has emerged in Japan has produced a culture and teachings with a slightly different way of thinking than this Western-style historical view of Asia from ancient times.
When you come to Japan, you are probably first surprised to find that more than 70% of the country is mountainous, with little flat land, and that many people are crammed into these mountainous areas. And in public places where there are many people, they act quietly and docilely so as not to disturb each other and others.
However, at nighttime meetings in small groups, such as in taverns, everyone is cheerful and noisy as if they were different people. And basically, they are kind and have a spirit of mutual help. Once back home, people are free to do as they please.
This tendency is the same not only in big cities such as Tokyo and Osaka, but also in far-flung regional cities, rural areas, and depopulated areas that are supposed to be the countryside. Rather, the more rural the area, the more the residents act in a way that is kind to others and maintains a peaceful collective behavior.
This will shock you if you think of Japan as a unipolar, centralized nation.
For more than 600 years, Japan has been a collection of self-governing provinces of local powerful clans like the united nations system under the Shogun as a practical executive government (police power and practical politics) under the command of the Emperor.
In this way, Japanese-style teachings permeated each region throughout the country, and the ancient Japanese Shinto religion and imported Buddhist teachings spread throughout the country. Each local ruler had his own castle and original cultures.
The reason why this type of governance was necessary is because Japan had the unique climatic and geographical conditions of an island nation.
It was warm, humid, and rainy, and therefore rich in fresh water, plants, and seafood to sustain life. (This is why communal living began in the Jomon period (14,000 years ago during the Jomon Pottery culture).
However, as you know, the land of Japan, unlike other lands, is at the same time a very dangerous place.
Volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons, torrential rains, landslides, heavy snowfalls, and the proliferation of bacteria and epidemics caused by warm weather.
Moreover, natural disasters can strike and destroy people and cities suddenly and without warning.
There is no reason or logic behind the occurrence of disasters. This coexistence of abundant positive and negative nature is the characteristic and history of the Japanese archipelago.
No matter how much wealth one acquires, one never knows when a natural disaster will sweep it away overnight, and no one can resist this.
Because of the harshness of this land, they realized that the wisest course of action and way of life is to think together about how to prevent disasters from occurring, and when a disaster does occur, to make it a top priority for all residents to work together to restore the area.
This not only keeps the residential area safe and peaceful, but also results in a direct link to the freedom and happy life of everyone, and by extension, each individual.
It is against this backdrop of the natural environment that they have come to believe that it is important to help each other in times of trouble, and that it is important for everyone to act in a way that does not cause trouble for others by suppressing their egos in public and acting in a way that does not cause trouble for others.
Natural disasters cannot be avoided, but human disasters can be avoided by educating people from children to respect each other and the need for mutual respect rather than asserting one's own ego. Japan's unique culture is the culmination of this very idea.
It is the reason why the ancient people of Japan called their country "YAMATO (WA) : the Land of Peace and Harmony (of people and nature)". There is no other place in continental life that is rich and so harsh at the same time.

@brianchar-bow3273 Thank you for your reply. You're absolutely right about Japanese culture being simultaneously rich and harsh. That's the biggest appeal towards the culture, IMO.
But we still need to elaborate more on the differences between Western, and Japanese culture, primarily the huge contrast between Japanese Collectivism vs. Western Individualism, but there is a difference between self-steem and pride/ego. Self-esteem is very much warranted self-respect, but pride/ego is unwarranted self-respect, and exemplifies narcissism and selfishness. The USA's way too drunk on pride. There's even a month dedicated to celebrating pride; Pride Month...
