How do I find or could you add a link on how I find the same carb you cleaned in this video
Steve's Small Engine Saloon I have to ask are u a super man fan lol good video
Please do a video on a Tecumseh carburator! Thanks!
Modelo 32 oz ummm is good for cleaning
Why is this video in 480P?
Thanks a million!! UA-cam never ceases to amaze me. There was a day you'd have to spend thousands of dollars to take a class in small engine repair to learn this stuff. And now with youtube, some gracious knowledgeable person gladly passes on his knowledge for free to the benefit of all. Thanks Again!!
You're Welcome...
Let the ad play the whole way so he can get paid.
Du bisht da besht
I have seen the rubber seat swell up from carburetor cleaner. I don’t spray the rubber seat or I take it out and clean it then replace the seat. Or if rubber tipped needles I don’t spray those either
100% agree I'm really grateful for having knowledge passed on.
I've found myself turning to this channel more and more. I've really learned a lot from your videos. I even been watching videos that have nothing to do with what I'm doing, just enjoy learning. You are a great teacher! Thank you for taking the time to make educational videos like this, it's much appreciated!!!
Great to hear!
I love how you suggest readily available stuff like wire brush wire and Q Tips to do the work, really useful, thanks.
You are welcome!
You’re way ahead, how do I even remove the darn thing😅
😆 hell I'm a plumber and I did it,😆 good luck man
Remove two 10mm bolts, remove two cables one micro small and the other larger.. Remove fuel line clamp off with vice grips.
Tern your fuil off take the bolts off undo the fuil pipe and it's off I'm 12 and know that
I’m not sure how many people you have that finds your channel and ends up watching every single video you’ve posted, but I just got added to that list. Subscribed. Thanks for your knowledge.
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
Thank you for this video. I tinkered with my Briggs and Straton pressure washer for a few hours and couldn't get it to work. Watched your video and you were right. My nozzle was partially clogged. I was one of the "9 out of 10 times". Woohoo! Now my pressure washer is running like champ. Thanks again!
You're Welcome...
Steve you do an excellent job in explaining how these machines work. A big fan of your channel. Keep up the good work and thanks for helping some of us guys that like to work on our lawn mowers.
Thanks, will do!
Hi Steve, Just wanted to drop you a line and say thanks again for your videos.I have a Toro 30" walk behind mower with a briggs engine. It has worked good for a long time. I just finished cutting grass and took a break, mower was working good. After break, started the engine, engaged the blades and it died. Started it again started and shut off right away. Remembered this video and comment about why engines sugre. I removed the fuel bowl and cleaned the jet, ran carb cleaner thru it, bowel was clean. Put it back on and it started right up, problem fixed. Thanks again Steve.
You're Welcome...
Great tips had cleaned it twice but missed the main jet, thought it was a drain hole for the bowl, thanks a bunch for the lesson.
You're welcome!
dude that trick with the little Carburetor bold with the twist tie just saved me from shoving or finding someone to fix my snowblower, unreal that little part is what gave me a headache about why she was spitting and sputtering and not starting, unreal, thank you thats all I can say!
You're Welcome...
I hadn’t been able to get my pressure washer running for over a year. I had the carburetor off last year and cleaned all I could but I didn’t realize the bottom bolt was the main jet so I didn’t clean it. I took it off today and cleaned it all including the main jet. Took fuel tank and lines off and blew them out. Put everything back together and started on 5th pull. Thanks Steve.
You're Welcome...
Thank you. Thank you. I had a $1000 wood chipper with 5.5HP Briggs and Stratton engine that stopped working after just one year. After seeing your video I decided to take the carburetor apart and clean every part of it. After putting it together it started on the first try !
Nice work!
Thankyou Steve, being a single female with only 2 male cats as advisers your videos have helped me learn so much. Cheers Maria
Fantastic!
Purrrrrfect!
I watched your video, took it apart, cleaned it and put it back together; runs great. You saved me about $350 because my wife wanted me to just buy a new lawnmower. Thank you!!!
Excellent!
Just discovered your channel. Nice videos bud! Suggestion: Maybe include some actual dirty carbs or whatever it is that needs to be cleaned or worked on rather than a 'prop' carb that's already in perfect condition. It would be cool to see you work your magic in real life!
Thank You...
Just discovered - please watch a while before suggesting changes that will improve the show.
Fixed my chipper carburator, even though it's not a Briggs and Stratton. Big thanks, well done!!!
I didn't know that the bolt at the bottom of the bowl was the main jet!!! Solved my problem just like that. Cheers Steve!
Right on
Great channel! Had a Briggs running a little ruff after a few minutes. I followed your advise that 9 times out of 10 the carbs are clogged at the main jet and that was the case with mine. I didn’t even have to remove the carb. If your ever in Northern Illinois I owe you a beer! Thanks!!
Right on...
I am impressed, he really knows what he is talking about. I'm a retired mechanic and it takes a lot to impress me.
I am honored Sir!
Thank you! My husband and father have been tinkering with the carburetor on our wood chipper for a few days. So today, I googled how to clean the carburetor and found your video. 3:30 into video showed what our problem was! That little bolt at the bottom of the fuel well was super clogged. Easy as pie! Actually, making pie is kinda hard. This was as easy as buying a pie. Thanks!
Glad I could help!
Thought that red can was some fancy cleaner shit then he picks it up it's a 8% Beer Can.. 😁🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks to your comment about "90% of the time it's the fuel jet" I went back to have ANOTHER look at my fuel jet. I didn't realize the hole through the bottom where the fuel flows through was SO small. When you look at it initially the large opening make you think the hole is also big - but it is VERY SMALL. So when I took it off again I passed a very small wire through it and there was the tiniest amount of junk. This is what I missed the first time. Once I cleaned it up THOROUGHLY I put it back and now my Snow Blower runs like a dream! So THANK YOU for making that point CLEAR! You did it for me! Have a great New Year!
You're Welcome...
BTW My snow blower is a Simplicity 1226E which is big enough to blow away a small car and I love it! It has the Briggs & Stratton. Me and a few friends are wondering exactly WHAT causes that stuff that looks like vaseline that builds up over the summer and clogs the jet. The suspicion is that it is related to the ethanol in the gas. It appears to be like a gel and the smallest amount in that jet hole and the monster won't run!
Old guitar strings work well for cleaning too
I've always thrown mine out... gotta get into the habit of keeping some
I just repaired a like new mower that was donated to our club. Would not start when warm with the choke wide open. Would start with starting fluid or choking it manually. Watched this video a few times
Turned out the brass insert in the carb body was plugged with white gunk. The bowl was clean and the main jet was fairly clean.
Starts now with one pull, hot or cold. Thanks, Steve!
You're Welcome...
You are awesome !! I fixed my mower myself , thanks to you !! Such a wonderful feeling that l was able to do it myself .. thank you for doing these videos .
Fantastic!
You removed the fear and made it doable and that is worth much more than the money saved. Great job, easy to understand. Thank you so much
Glad it helped
I've been a "shade tree" mechanic for 65 years and in that time I've done it all on cars and small engines. I enjoy your videos and still learn a thing or two in the process.
Right on
I share your video a lot on a Small engine forum I am on....... Too hard to explain the procedures to some knuckle heads LOL ......
Plus Tard Mon Ami ~!~!
Thanks buddy...
Thanks to the power of UA-cam. I was watching your video because I thought my pressure washer engine was going to need a full carb cleaning. Then the first thing you mentioned about the main jet bolt in the bottom of the cup sounded like it could be my exact problem. The engine would run for 1-2 seconds and then cut off. So it wanted to run, but was acting like it would get no fuel. Let it rest 30 seconds and it would crank again for 1-2 seconds. Since that bolt is at the lowest point and the natural place for sediment to collect, it explained my problem. I didn't even have to take the carb off to check it. And boy was it clogged. A good cleaning and put back in and the engine cranked and ran with no problem. Thanks a bunch.
You're Welcome...
Thanks for the video. I had taken the carb apart several times trying to find which hole I hadn't cleaned yet before I watched this. It was the jet at the bottom of the bowl and I figured that as soon as you mentioned it. I had no idea there were holes in that bolt.
Great job!
Thanks for the video. I have a pressure washer with a carburetor that was completely plugged up. I followed along with your video and it started on the first pull once I put it back together.
Great to hear!
hi steve love your videos i had an issue with a neighbours self propelled it would run a few seconds with a prime so i cleaned carborator twice same issue i then discoverd the plastic tube running from carb to engine had broke in half just under coil out of sight a tough one to notice thought you might want to mention it sometime as you no always something different to stump ya keep up the good work you guys are great i like that
your man enough to acknowlege her good work
Steve, you da man. Tore carb apart first time without success. Checked out your video and followed your tips. Started right up. Thank youu
Great job!
Performed this action. New air filter and spark plug. Fired up first pull. It was my grandmas mower. They got it in 2007 i used it to mow her lawn. Its still in great shape. Its a good mower cause it says " not for sale in California"
You are absolutely the best instructor on UA-cam!
Thank You...
Steve you Rock!!! I bought a used lawn mower that wouldn't crank followed your instructions cranks right up. Thank You So Much!!!
Well, what can I say? I have a way with lawn mowers. Maybe I missed my calling as a lawn mower mechanic!
Thanks Bro. The problem was in the bolt of the float chamber cover. In this bolt, two holes were so dirty that you would never guess that they are there at all!
I swear watching your videos has saved me so much money
Thank You...
Using the wire from a twist tie to clean the jet is brilliant. I poked it in the hole a few times and then the motor started up on the first pull. Thanks!
You're Welcome...
Good camera angles, clear explanations.
Very helpful.
Thank You...
Steve, great information, good and clear explanation. I would like to suggest that you wear safety glasses while doing show, especially when spraying carburetor cleaner.
Been working on my 25 year old Briggs today, won't stay running. Thanks for the info. It will be tomorrow.
Good luck!
Thanks! The "9 out of 10"-comment did the trick. Had no idea that the "main injection nozzle" was more than a screw. Missed it completely - and it was blocked.
You're Welcome...and Thank You...
Great DIY video! I'm a diesel mechanic and carbs are a totally different animal I've never had to deal with. This was extremely informative and saved me from buying a new carb.
Right on Chip.. Thank You...
I'm not a mechanic but I've kept my trucks on the road for 30 years+ now never having to go to a mechanic. Well once for a transmission rebuild. Side note UA-cam won't let you shorten transmission anymore with the term everyone uses because the algorithm catches the word related to transgenders 🤦♂. I had used that word several times in videos talking about transmissions and I finally figured out why I wasn't getting any responses. UA-cam shadow bans any comments with that word in it. UA-cam has really helped me out though with my mechanics. I'm with you though, I really knew nothing about small engine repair till I started watching this guy.
While the auto play cycled videos and I napped, I woke up during during this one. Yet another of your great videos, which will help in time to come I am sure.
Awesome! Thank you!
I have my own shop of 12 years now. One of the first things I learned was to STOP USING CARBURETOR CLEANER! I only use brake cleaner. You can install a rubber seat on one of those push mower carburetors. Hook up the float and needle...then squirt some carb cleaner into the intake where you installed the seat. Hold carburetor horizontally and watch the float start rising!! Carb cleaner make rubber seals swell big time!
This got my pressure washer working! Simple...thank you for your expertise!
You are welcome!
Thanks Steve. I have a fairly new Makita 4 stroke leaf blower, that is getting hard to start, it won't rev, and its blowing white smoke. Will give your cleaning procedure a try. I received from Amazon that multi wire cleaning tool. Will use that with the carb cleaner.
Thanks for the great video! My lawn mower would start with starting fluid sprayed into carb, but then die very quick. It would keep running some if I tilted it back on back wheels. I watched your video, took air filter off. crimped gas line, took bowl off and cleaned the jet, took float/pin off, sprayed brake cleaner (all I had) all inside it, and put it back together.... It runs great now!!! I didn't even need to remove the carburetor or any of its connections so it was a very easy fix! Thanks!
Right On...
This is just the video I was looking for!!!
I have to repair 4 water pumps and the engine won't get fuel. I think following these steps will get me going
A buddy of mine is bringing me a beastly old snowblower to get running. I'll be putting this info to good use.
Good video. I hadnt taken one of these apart in a long time. Most of my mowers have the plastic carbs. I got fed up with mine and ordered a copy off amazon. Useful info , though.
This video is outstanding !! Clear, concise and covers all bases. Really great !!
Much appreciated!
BEST explanation I have ever seen on this subject! Thanks ever so much.
You're very welcome!
Ausum!!👌Just what I needed to get that carb. cleaned , and rotattiller working!
Its also a good idea to see if there is any side to side play in the choke and throttle plate shaft. Having to much play can lean out the fuel mixture as it lets more air in through the shaft hole.
Thanks Steve, I had no idea that the brass plug in the bottom of the fuel bowl did anything but hold the cover on, -wow, I dont need a new carb now!
You're Welcome...
Thanks Steve.
I have the same carburetor and the rototiller won't start. Cleaned as indicated by you and now it runs as it did 4 years ago
Right on Pete! Thank You...
after watching your video I stopped hating small engines. Thank you for a great informative video!
Glad to help
My Homelite 2200 psi pressure washer carb was absolutely full of rust and gunk. I was surprised how well vinegar and baking soda worked. I didn't have any carb cleaner on hand so I tried out my old childhood rocket fuel and it worked pretty darn well. Oh yeah...a little elbow grease too.
Only input I have for you is wear some safety squints. That carb spray will go right in your eyes when you’re spraying the jets.
Great comment. Thank You...
He’s an adult he doesn’t need your judgemental comment
I was able to get my tailgator generator running thanks to this video.
Excellent!
* Torch tip cleaner, available any welding supply, or store with basic welding supplies. Made to clean out Oxygen and Acetylene cutting torch tips. Has multiple size cleaners. Should be around $4.00- $6.00, very common item. I'm about to get one from work and do all this myself. Great video !
The torch tip cleaners will not have the brushes, just the fold out wire cleaners, with many sizes .
Cut your torch tip cleaners off and run the end on a fine grinding stone on opposing sides so that it has a angled tip then use them in your wire drill set.
With the angled tip they will drill like a wire drill plus you can use the serrated file section of the wire to file out jets to odd sizes that are in between your available wire sizes. Great for fine tuning a carburetor jetting system to work best on whatever local cheap fuel you use.
This Guys videos are brilliant! Super easy to follow. Thanks mate!
Glad you like them!
Setting here in my Lazy Boy with a ice cold COORS LITE watching and learning !! Thanks my friend !
Rock on!
The best thing I've found to clean out that tiny brass insert ( air bleed ) is the smallest or second to smallest wire on that welders tip cleaner you showed.
Just that one step has fixed half of the mowers I repair for resale.
Bought a new carb for 5hp rototiller (b&s), put it on, ran ok but as I was using it fuel leaking out the side mount air intake. Drips??
This video helped me out so much and saved me so much money. Thank you!!
I'm so glad!
Great channel! I have a surging problem with my Toro Timemaster. It occurs only when the engine is warm, and only when idling, not while the blades are engaged. I think my carb is a little different than this one, but I'm hoping your steps will help solve the problem. So far I only tried the easy steps (removing bowl and checking main jet and pin). Now I'll remove the whole thing and clean all the ports. It's only 3 years old, and it probably started happening even in the first season.
Keep putting out videos out like this and soon you will dry up the market of push mowers left on the curb for free haul away. Well done.
Thanks 👍
Thank you. My issue was the main jet, sprayed it out and all is good
Good to hear
We had a carb from a mower at work that had sat for so long, a wire wouldn’t clean any of the jets or ports. I found a set of micro drill bits and by hand I drilled out all the gunk. Just be very careful and don’t use a power drill. But it worked so well. It was just so gummed up that a wire wouldn’t bust through it
Interesting!
Thanks for the step by step ,instructions to clean my carberator. Last week I cleaned it and the mower great. A week later it starts but won't rev up its like it's starving for gas. Any suggestions?
It's refreshing to see someone who isn't afraid to use a thin wire to clear a blockage... so many other channels and instructions say to *never use metal to clear the nozzles.* I agree _to a point,_ if carb cleaner will clear it up, then GREAT! If not, I'm not going to turn a 5 minute job into a several-hour or even overnight job, soaking all the little parts, just to avoid a little mechanical agitation.
So what's the risk with using a metal wire? My best guess is, if there's a significant burr on your metal, it could scratch the throat of the nozzle and thereby change the fuel feed rate by introducing turbulence or increasing the diameter of the throat. So just be smart about it, and don't gouge your throat walls, eh?!?
I ordered a whole set of "nozzle cleaners" of different sizes off of amazon and it was painfully obvious that each one was cut to length with some *dull snips.* That meant each one was *sandwiched* at the end to nearly twice the diameter (for some of the smaller cleaners.) I fixed each cleaner with a little TLC and a grinding wheel. Problem solved.
If you're like me, you don't have the money to pay someone else to fix your small engines every time they start bogging down or quit working altogether. That's why I appreciate people like Steve who use some of their free time to help the rest of us save some $$! And Steve OBVIOUSLY knows what he's doing!
Steve's my favorite small engine repair channel, hands down! Thanks Steve!
Great Job !!! Hope the beer is good.
I liked the video and I have learned something new and I sure wish we had some of that Red Horse beer down here in Arkansas where I could try it. Thanks for the information and I hope you have a great week, Steve.
Hey Steve... I can't Thankyou Kindly Enough for all your videos! I'm a Canadian Boy getting ready for winter yo take hold! Lol...
Hence... snowblower!
All of this video is so detailed, AWESOME!
My question please is:
You never mentioned any of the 2 gaskets?
Bowl gasket or bottom jet gasket!
My B&S have both... are they required?
I'll have to send you a Canadian Beer... it's called "MOOSEHEAD"...
Actually quite good! And healthy for you up here!
Thanks for the video! We just bought a go-cart and the carb was crusty, gooey, and otherwise gnarly when I took it apart. With your vid I was able to clean it out and now I'm just waiting for the liquid gasket on the jet to cure (no gasket sets to be found around here).
Thank you so much. Your instructions are very precise. My tiller works wonderfully.
You are welcome!
I had cleaned everything except the bowl bolt and sure enough it was clogged. Thx for the vid.
You're Welcome...
Thanks Steve, i am going to try this tomorrow
You're Welcome...
This was extremely informative. Thank you Steve
You're Welcome...
i don't know if i just got lucky with that same carburetor? i just pulled the bowl off and left the carb on the lawn mower, cleaned the main jet as shown in your video and reinstalled..the lawn mower has been running like a champ ever since! Prior to cleaning the main jet, the lawn mower would not stay running and the idle was all over the place 👍🙂
Great job!
@@StevesSmallEngineSaloon thank you Steve for the very helpful video!!
Thanks from Australia I've had my carby apart three times today thought I cleaned everything didnt give the brass plug a second thought till your video, mines blocked!
Glad it helped
YOUR HELPING ME TREMENDOUSLY MAN. THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Glad to hear it!

You're Welcome...
Thank you! Needed that refresher.
You're welcome!
Thank you sir..working on one right now and didnt know what I was doing until now.
You're Welcome...
Great video! Helped me fix my mower and understand a carburetor better! Thank you so much for posting this!!
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
I love watching your videos, very informative for the intermediate small engine mechanic
Glad you like them!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with others.
My pleasure!
I love Red Horse Beer🐴🍺 😀. Philippines 🇵🇭 represent👍
I didn’t realize that screw that held the bowl on was main jet I would take carburetor off and clean bowl but never looked at that screw my tiller is purring like a kitten again thanks your doing the lords work saving me from having a cussing fit lol
Thank You...
It took me 1 video to subscribe to your channel , you’re the best , 🙏🏼. Thank you again
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
Thank you sir, 100% accurate, it was the main jet, thank you very much
You're most welcome
It looks like you just answered my question and I can solve my problem tomorrow. It is too late tonight but first thing tomorrow . . .
Right on Gene...
Strange you should mention that.
I just worked on a Craftsman self propelled unit with a Briggs engiine & carb just like that. I used mineral spirits to soak it in for 24-48 hrs.
The only thing wrong with it was the main jet was clogged with a small amount of crud.
Thank you sir for the informative video, will this also help me if my engine seems likes is getting to much fuel? My engine is running too toooooo rich?
Red Horse beer from the Philippines !
