Can't thank you enough Steve. I'm at the summerhouse with no electricity, just this old generator nobody's used in more than five years. Darn thing wouldn't run no matter what I tried. Finally with my phone's battery at 15% I found your video and you showed me how to remove the main nozzle. Only thing I wasn't able to remove and clean before. A long screw helped extract it. That was the culprit, now we finally have electricity. Thank you!

Often, the video makers are too kind to suggest doing that. Remember, many little tips are better than nothing and, if many do it, they will add up to something nice!

As others have already mentioned - great video for the steps you covered, and great confidence builder. I followed all the steps, but still no luck getting my 25 yr. old Coleman Powermate HP 3500 generator started. I found that my problem was within the fuel shutoff mechanism which was not covered in your video. Unfortunately I had total blockage right where the fuel enters the carb, and it took a little force to break thru the white powdery material. I was then able to spray carb cleaner thru the inlet, and I cleaned up the rubber gasket inside. Re-assembled, and she started on the first pull. Thanks!

Thank you for this helpful video. I am 44 and have always been iffy when it comes to a carb. But you my friend just walked me right through it and now have myself thinking if I would have just ripped into one 30 years ago when I first started working on my own stuff I would probably still have everything that ran with a carb still. Not sure why I have always been intimidated by them. But you took that right out of me. Many thanks again. You completed me full circle. Cheers to cracking another cold one.

Steve, I just wanted to say THANK YOU for making this video. I have that very carburetor on a Kohler command pro CH270 on my wood splitter which wouldn't run after sitting all winter. So today I took the carb apart and cleaned it while watching your video step by step. It didn't totally fix my problem, but it now runs for about 2 minutes before it dies, which is an improvement. I think my next step is to drain the tank and maybe replace the fuel line. Thanks again.

Thanks Steve ! Best tutorial I've ever seen on the subject, clear, and instills confidence takiing the mystique from carb repair. Anybody just trying to get the nozzle out and cleaned without the carb being taken off, it WILL come out just by gravity but be careful- it may not come out when and where you expect or want it. Mine fell into the grass and 1/2 hour later I found it. Wish I'd put a clean white big towel beneath the compressor I was working on sitting on the back end of a Gator. Just cleaned the main nozzle and bowl, and fixed it ! Thanks again, Steve !

The twist-tie hint - GOLD! I was unable to get tiny paperclip or sewing pin in the pilot jet, but that worked like a charm! It also was the cause of the engine not running. It wasn't until I saw this video and cleaned the carb a second time that I got the engine running! Thank you!

You helped me to clean that carb but unfortunately the mower had more serious problems. Local mower mechanic checked it out and I ended up buying a used Remington RM 110 from him. He cranked it and showed me it run, cranked with one pull. Got home and started cutting and it would not stay running. I pulled the carb myself, and thanks to your detailed instruction I got all the crud out of it (it was a mess). Runs like a new mower now. Again, thank you so much for your great tutorials.

Steve, great video! It was exactly what I needed to clean and fix my non-running 6.5 HP (212cc) OHV Horizontal Shaft Predator 3100psi Pressure Washer (Harbor Freight Item 62200). I bought it several years ago, used it once, drained the gas from the tank, but apparently forgot to drain the carburetor. I guess the gas evaporated and gummed up the carburetor jets, which prevented the engine from running at all.
Long story short, I tried fuel additives, carb cleaner, etc. to clean it out but nothing "easy" and familiar worked. After deciding to replace the carburetor for $8 to $40, I was fortunate to find your well done video and decided to dismantle the carburetor and clean it according to your instructions. The carburetor was easy to remove - just two nuts and two hoses. It was indeed gummed up badly with several jet holes clogged. The carburetor was easy to dismantle following your instructions (I thought it was going to be much more complicated than it turned out to be). I had never dismantled a small engine carburetor before and was reluctant to try, but your video really helped. I used carb cleaner, an old toothbrush, and a small brass wire brush to get the really bad gum off.
After cleaning the carburetor as you instruct and putting it back on the engine, the engine started on the 3rd pull and has run smoothly since.
I would say your video covered about 99.99% of what I needed to know to do the job right and quickly (it only took me about 30-min from start to finish). However, you didn't mention the small o-ring on the end of the pilot jet, which A to Z Rentals & Sales mentions below. My o-ring popped off and fell onto the paper towels I was working over as I was clearing the pilot jet hole. I'm glad I noticed and didn't lose the o-ring because, as this was new to me, I never would have known the o-ring needed to be there. I would have been fine if I had read the some of the comments to your video (always good to do I guess).
Anyway, thanks for the very well done and instructive video. You saved me $40 and I learned some new stuff! Now I'm going to look to see if you have a video on storing small engines properly.

Loved your presentation. Have one suggestion-always tell viewers to wear safety glasses anytime they work on gasoline engines or clean a part. Two weeks ago I put a little air through a mower fuel line without putting the cap on the tank. The only thing that kept the gas out of my eyes was the safety glasses. Similar things can happen when using air to get grit out of small parts-don’t want to get metal shavings in the eyes! Thanks, the best, complete instructional video I’ve seen in a long time. 👍👍👍👍👍

Thank you very much for this very clear cut, very helpful video. I took apart and cleaned the carburetor on my lawnmower with the Honda GVC160 engine. It was still starting easily, and running okay, except for surging. I found nothing dirty and nothing stopped up, but after following the instructions in your video it works like brand new again. no surging whatsoever.

This is the best carb cleaning video I've seen. I have the exact same carbs on some Chonda equipment. The strand of wire from a brush was in a word... BRILLIANT!! Great video! I acquired a Homelite pressure washer with ancient lumpy gas in the tank. I cleaned the tank and changed the gas but this thing was never going to start. I grabbed a couple of beers and got to work following this video. The main jet was plugged exactly the way Steve said. Started on the first pull when I got it back together. Couldn’t be happier.

I just subscribed the other day - Looking forward to checking out more of your videos. I really dig your style. Awesome info, given in a way that the average person can understand. Not too technical, but all of the needed info. Not too corny, but a nice bit of occasional humor. Great camera work... And Beer... The perfect balance. You ROCK..!
This particular video SAVED me $$$, and taught me a new skill..! THANKS..! After watching this video I tried my hand, for the first time, at repairing a "small engine". Cleaned the carb on my Toro mower that wouldn't start/run (main jet was fully clogged). I even "made" my own special main-jet screw driver based on your advice. After watching another of your videos on a Briggs & Stratton carb, I got a generator running that had been sitting (with gas in it) for 8 years..! LOVE your stuff..! Keep it up..!

Because of this older video, I was able to fix my lawn mower today.
It would start, run for about 20 seconds, then die.
I was going to buy a new carb, but I decided to try cleaning mine first.

It started right up and kept running.
Thanks for the help!! Your information was perfect!!

You're the man Steve! I watched 2 other videos on how to clean a carburetor and yours was by far the best and most thorough. It got my Westinghouse 7500E generator running again after only 30.5 run hours on it. One of the ports must have been clogged. As a show of appreciation I ordered some things from your Amazon store and Paypal(ed) you a little something. Keep the videos coming. Oh, and of course I subscribed to your channel.

Outstanding instructional video. I am not a mechanic, nor have I ever taken a carburetor apart. I acquired a Honda snowblower HS724 and it would sort of start but wouldn’t keep running. I figured it may be from long storage gunk in the gasoline. This video walked me through every step and saved me $$. I was able to successfully take it apart, clean it and (very important) put it back together- it started right up and runs great!! Thanks!!!

My finger was almost on the purchase button to buy a new carb for my honda generator, but I thought to do a search on this subject, and yours came forth. So well done from start to finish! (I like your Beer prop also) I had made an attempt to service this carb once before, but you made me realize there are more intricate nuances to this task at several turns, I learned so much! Maybe after doing my Honda tomorrow, I take on my Kawasaki drifter instead of just ordering a new carb. Every turn of learning and success in small engine maintenance and repair is such a joy for me (in a world of shops that just say we gotta order new parts and then say there are shipping delays to cover for their own inefficiencies) Thank you so much! If I need parts or supplies for my immediate and future small engine endeavors, I'll be going to your site and try to get my requirements there first. You are doing it right!

I just followed your video step-by-step to clean the carburetor on my 30+ year old Honda HR215 SX lawnmower. Thank you for putting out a good quality tutorial and now I'm going to take off and clean up the carb. on a Honda EX350 2stroke generator that isn't getting any fuel but has plenty of spark.
