Thank you for your detailed & learnable (that a word? LoL) tutorials- you explain everything so well & in a way that’s clear & easy to duplicate. Not all tutorials explain why something is done, what to do if a small mistake is done, or share a method that would things easier.
I love the way you teach. You explain everything in detail and simply so a novice can understand but a more experienced knitter won't be bored. I love that you show how to do it in both knitting styles. Your little tips are great. I was thinking what if I can't tell if I'm picking up the correct stitch and you give me the answer. I would love to spend an afternoon knitting and chatting with you. Maybe if I win the Lotto I'll come visit your store. A girl can dream.
I love your video! It is so clear and your tempo is perfect. Also, you don’t waste too much time telling irrelevant information. You have great inflection as well. Thank you.
As always, super good tutorial. I'm all caught up with my UFO's and been eager to start painting bricks socks. I usually make 64 stitch sock but am doing this with the 60 stitch. If it's too small for adults I have some grandchildren for whom they will fit. Folded hem certainly.
Excellent tutorial! Thank you for making it so simple to follow along. This method seems easier than I previously thought. I will be giving it a try. Again thank you!
Wait, I've seen you on Ravelry! OMG I love your designs!! I just found this video by chance because I needed a demo of this technique but also yay, hi, you are great, it's lovely to see you on here. Also your dog is BEAUTIFUL and I lost my entire mind when I started playing this video, tysm, please tell them I said hi!! Such an excellent snorty little goblin.
I crashed and burned and lost a whole cuff…. 😢It looks so easy but I just couldn’t see how to pick up the stitches when I came to do it. I’m doing this as part of the Dustland Sock pattern. I think I will just do a normal ribbed cuff without the folding element. 😊
I just made rhe February hat which used provisional cast on and placed those stitches on a separate needle. Both fiddly, and not totally sure it was faster.
Great tutorial just done my first folded hem on a sock. Does the non working tail of yarn just get hidden inside, mine is but I wasn’t sure if that’s the right thing to do?
If you cast on the start with a temporary crocheting chain and remove that when you want to pick up for closing you never have trouble with tension. Is that right?
I would do all the pick up row as knit, then ribbing could resume. I think the purl stitches would look a little bulky with the yarn being brought front to back. I could be wrong but that's what my brain is telling me lol
thank you for this informative video! I do have a question : is there an equivalent when you do a top down sweater to like do the cuffs hemmed as a cast off? I'm pretty new . thank you!
I'm doing a top-down sweater right now. I knitted all the rest of the sweater first, and then went back to add the collar using the method shown in this video. After I had folded over the ribbing and attached it to itself as shown in the video, I casted off using this cast off: ua-cam.com/video/ha_WXEGE4yg/v-deo.html This worked well for me and I will probably do it the same way the next time I knit a top-down sweater.
Love your nonchalant attitude while knitting makes it less threatening, more fun.
Love your quirky sounds and your positive voice.

You're a great teacher! Thank you Stephen!!!
Wow! accurate, straight to the point, bright and wonderful personality---thank you!
you make things sound so easy and look easy TY for always being so cheery !!!
Thank you! I like this because it hides the cast on!
Thank you so much! I am making a copy of my favourite sweater and could not figure out how they did the folded hems on the sleeves. Lifesaver!!!
Great tutorial!!! You are a knitter, baby!!!!!
I love this technique. I've even used it to make drawstring bags. I told over just enough to make a pocket for my drawstrings.

So interesting and looks so professional! Thanks for the good tips!

I just love your tuto, you make things so simple, Thanks !
simple to follow and understand, thank you!!!
You’re an amazing teacher ❤
Awesome tutorial, thank you! It's been a few years since I've done this so I appreciate the help. 🙌💞
Thank you fo the tutoria. Your dog is so cute 🥰
amazing Janelle, I love it!! sooooooo tempted to have a go myself!!
I like to do a provisional cast-on, then the stitches are easier to knit.
Thank you , I've been curious about this look 😊
Thank you , it’s very helpful. Groetjes uit Utrecht 💖🌷
Beautiful technique!
Thank you
Love this thanks for showing stay safe xx
So amazing and so easy 🤩 thank you 🤗

Great tutorial. A provisional cast on would work also.
Thank you for anither tool to add to my knitting toolbox.
Love it. Thank you...❤
Lovely, thank you! 💚
Excelente tutorial, muy bonito acabado, gracias.
Teşekkür ederim
What is that BLUE????? ☝🏻🤩🤩🤩

I really want to try this as the finish looks so good! Would it work with a provisional cast on?
I always do it with a provisional cast on

Thank you, I'm a fairly new Knitters but am becoming obsessed with knitting hats. Could this method be used on hats as a double thick brim? TIA
Genius 💕🙋🏻♀️🧶
Can you do this with any stitch and still look okay? For example doing Garter not stockentte or ribbing for the collar
❤
Do you then cast off? What do you do with the stitches left on the needle?
Great tutorial just done my first folded hem on a sock. Does the non working tail of yarn just get hidden inside, mine is but I wasn’t sure if that’s the right thing to do?
Oh my goodness! This is helpful. What yarn did you use for the sweater you are wearing? It’s absolutely beautiful.
If you cast on the start with a temporary crocheting chain and remove that when you want to pick up for closing you never have trouble with tension. Is that right?
what about if you want to keep the ribbing going, can you purl too!
I would do all the pick up row as knit, then ribbing could resume. I think the purl stitches would look a little bulky with the yarn being brought front to back. I could be wrong but that's what my brain is telling me lol
Thank You so much for this Awesome information. I Love it. Would someone tell me the name of the Sweater that he has on ? I would Love to try it .
I believe that is the Painting Bricks sweater, designed by Stephen West.
@@vivianpowell1732 Thank You.
With this technique, will the collar or cuff loose it shape over time as oppose to the single?
When would you use this rather than double knitting?

How about a provisional cast on?
It's the first option that popped into my mind too
He mentions provisional cast on at about 5 mins. You can absolutely use that :)
That was my first thought but you’re not always going to be able to do a provisional cast on. E.g on the hem or the cuffs of a top down jumper.
@@caro1591 Why not? At the end of the ribbing you pick from the provisional cast on instead of the long tail cast on
@@alphabo1 I might be being dim here but if it’s a top down sweater, you will have cast on at the neck and not at the bottom hem. 🤔
😊
Is this the same as three-needle bind off?
It’s similar but you don’t bind off so you have live stitches still.
@@StephenWest Thank you.
