I've watched quite a few of your videos and I have to say, the production value is really top-notch. You are friendly and encouraging WITHOUT a lot of unnecessary chit-chat. I love that you get right to the topic at hand. Yours are now my go-to videos for new techniques and refreshers on old ones. Thank you!!
The part where the cuff is closed and the progress is moving from two needles to a single needle is so much fun! I always use this double-thick cuff pattern whenever I make any kind of hat, it is so much better than the stiff cast-on edge
Thank you so much for another wonderful video explaining how to create a double cuff. You add just the right amount of instructions to make it understandable and are well prepared to show all the different steps in the process. You are appreciated.
Finished this hat for my grandson. Used Worsted. Made a lovely hat with a warm double edge. Perfect for our Canadian winter that started a week ago lol. First time using a provisional cast on and I loved it. My son saw the hat I made for his son and I now have a a joyful list of hat seekers. Thank you Staci.
I am watching you tutorial for about the 20th time. Just because I am very excited about making one. You talk about dpn's. I prefer to use dpn's but I also want to get comfortable with the circular needles. Also, I had cancer about 10 years ago and had some chemo hats that were very itchy, nice soft yarn is very important to me. Thanks for the pattern. Robin
Hey thanks! I was one of those who hated DP needles and only used circulars. After your comments, I bought a set and tried again. I find it very relaxing and enjoy not having to deal with the twisting cord. I think my problem was that I tried them years ago when I first started knitting. My tension was too loose so the needles kept falling out and rolling on the floor. I kept getting ladders also. After using circulars, I’ve learned how to close the gaps. No ladders at all with these new DPs! I bought more of them! Thanks for encouraging me to try again!
Thank you for your tutorials. They are always timely, easy to understand and interesting! I am currently working on hats for my grandkids, so I'm trying this on one for the first time. You are much appreciated, a natural born teacher!💖👍🧶
This is an amazing idea for a hat.. Can't believe there's no baby size.. It's perfect for new borns - no seems and no cast on edge, all soft and fluffy on the little angel's head...
I know exactly what you mean about double pointed needles! When the magic loop became popular I was into it, but these last 3 years I went back to dpns. I love them too much and I want them in every type, Cubics are my favourites right now. Magic loop is all right for sweaters, and that’s that.
I also have to say you are hilarious! “Somebody find me something pointy on this table...oh, a knitting needle”. I’m still giggling about it. I even played it for my husband to enjoy.
I love Staci's videos....she's amazing. I refer her to every knitter no matter what the skill level I know! I wished I'd found her "sooner" than a did.(I found her about 3-4 yrs ago I think!)
Thank you so much for this generous gift, Staci! I love your enthusiasm, and always appreciate the little tricks that you share and the clarity with which you explain things.
I wish there was an option to give you 10 thumbs up for this tutorial, Staci! Thank you for this wonderfully well-timed and generous gift. Merry Christmas to you!
Once again you have made me want to drop my current wip and start on this project.I can not wait until after the holidays when I can knit something for ME! Thanks Staci, you are the best
I just received my poms from FFFabuknits, and they are wonderful! Great service, quality, and pricing! Can’t wait to get started! Glad I ordered them a couple weeks ago from your “attaching a Pom Pom” video because I’ll bet she gets swamped with orders now!!
great....thorough tutorial....guess what I will be knitting today.. Just finished a beanie with straight needles....now I have to sew the edge up....we'll see! Thanks...happy knitting!
Thanks for the great pattern. I have several kids who need a double brim (they live in Montana!). BTW, I love double-points also! I love the way they work, feel and sound. My husband is amazed every time I use them! He's an software engineer and he thinks I am a genius. Lol
Thanks for that extra tidbit about tightening up the purl stitch on the 2 by 2 ribbing! You have been so helpful with all your videos Greatly appreciated😀
Thank you for sharing this great technique and pattern. I have already made 3 of these for my 2 sons and my hubby. They love their hats and already asked for more in different colors 😊
Thank you for the wonderful Christmas gift! The button idea is genius!! Always making my family and friends new hats this time of year to go with the cold weather! Merry Christmas and God bless!!
Thank you for this tutorial! I combined this with your tutorial on Helix knitting a hat and my first try was a success (at least in my mind). Love your videos and they are my #1 go to for help.
Thank you so much for the gift of the free pattern and for your generosity all year long with your videos and your enthusiasm. I wish that I could give you a holiday gift, but I will give the gift of my feedback through these comments. Merry Christmas!
Thank you! I love the two-toned look, and it was helpful to see multiple color schemes to get an idea of how different colors will look together. You are the best! I have learned so much from you. You also helped me get over my fear of DPNs, and I agree - they are fun to knit with! Happy Holidays to you and yours! ❤
I literally loled when you said "I'll tell you what's exciting for me... is to try to do a whole bunch at once.... see how exciting that was?!" lololol I do the same thing and it truly is such a thrill. hahahaha
I’ve been watching your videos for seven years and love that I still am learning new techniques. I’m going to try this cast on for some socks . (Heidi not Jaana)
Great pattern, thanks! I, too, enjoy working with dpns. Learned as a newbie many, many years ago and have no problem with “all those needle ends” which seem to bother so many people. Merry Christmas, Staci !!
I’m so excited that I found this video since I want to knit a hat for my daughter for Christmas and was looking for a way to do the decreases at the top Thanks
you are the BEST, staci! I can’t tell you how many times your videos have saved my life while knitting (just earlier today, I successfully turned the heel on the first sock I’ve ever made thanks to you)!! I can’t wait to make this hat 😊
I know I'm late to the party but OMG Staci!!! This is so gorgeous. I wish my work looked blocked while I was knitting it up like your samples do. 😭 This is me crying.
Thank You for the free pattern and video tutorial. I like the idea of using a button when attaching the pom pom. Merry Christmas to you and your family. 😀
Thank You Tracy and I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas! I'm into socks this year got your pattern and will take your advice and start with worsted weight first, as for the hat I will knit this for myself this weekend! It's going to be way below zero over here in Quebec. Forgot to say hats are beautiful...
Thank you for all of the great information over the years. You pretty much taught me from far away. I would love to find a good instructional video on how to knit a tube reversible beanie.
Thank you Staci! I have been wanting to try this double cuff on a hat since you posted the video on it a while back - this will make a perfect Christmas gift for my sister!
I LOVE it Stacy... thank you for this beautiful gift and this video ... wish you and everybody and wonderful Christmass and that the New Year bring all sorts of Joy and Happinesses.
Hi Stacy, I was listening to your podcast and you were talking about the tendonitis one can get from knitting. As a constant knitter I won’t stop knitting to rest. I have found several things that can help if done the instant you notice it coming on. Massage your arms and hands your self using a roller type utensil. if you use the eraser end of a pencil or your finger find the most painful spot and place hard pressure (the most you can stand) press in that one spot and don’t move it until the pain lessens. Then find a new spot and repeat. Soak your arm or entire body in epsom salt. Repeat every day or give up and have a massage work on you. Sometimes it can be up your neck, and shoulder blades. All those muscles are attached. Also stop holding your phone or iPad while you play games. There are many lotions that can help as well, bengay or theraworx relief are two I go to. Lastly, change up the needles your using or sit in a different chair.
I love dpn's but I still have trouble with some laddering where the needles change. Using 5 is better than 4. I love the super thin ones for baby booties. Thanks for the pom pom tip. A secure but removable pom is a really good idea.
I too LOVE working on dpns....have tried magic loop but it just isn't the same. Have never made a hat in the round before, so thank you so much for the video & pattern!
I've watched quite a few of your videos and I have to say, the production value is really top-notch. You are friendly and encouraging WITHOUT a lot of unnecessary chit-chat. Mine too. I come back every time I need to remember how to do Kitchener stitch!
I'm knitting this pattern for the third time this year. My favorite hat to knit as a gift, especially for men
The part where the cuff is closed and the progress is moving from two needles to a single needle is so much fun! I always use this double-thick cuff pattern whenever I make any kind of hat, it is so much better than the stiff cast-on edge

Love the hat. Knitting with WOODEN double pointed needles helps making knitting a little easier.
Yes, bamboo needles are also kind to sensitive hands....
Of course it was a brilliant tutorial. They always are! x
