  • There were so many questions on this video I filmed a video answering as many as I could!
    • Helical Knitting FAQ!
    FAQ’s
    1. This will only work when knitting in the round, with dpns or circular needles. This will not work for knitting flat pieces. Just carry the yarn up the side.
    2. This will not work with wider stripes. This is a tutorial for blending similar skeins together. It works well for single stripes but NOT for thicker stripes. You will get a float on the back of the wotk if you use this method for thicker stripes.
    3. The sweater Im wearing is the Pavement Sweater. You can by the pattern here : www.ravelry.co...
    Thanks for watching! I hope it was clear enough!
    The yarn I am using is Babbles Yarns Delicious DK and the colourways are “Sin” and “The Same Moon”
    Im knitting on a 4mm needle

    This is without a doubt the best method. I am so thankful you posted this video because all the other videos seem to show the other method and yours works best. I did this on a sweater I made & lived that it didn’t have a seam inside from twisting the two yarns. Thanks.

    5:52 Where you explain slipping purl wise! 💡
    Finally! I've been knitting for years now and I just slip the stitches so 'they look right' to me, and just ignored the instructions of slip purl wise/slip knit wise in patterns because I used to knit combination style (western knits, eastern purls) and would have to reorient the stitches anyway.
    I think the 'slip knit wise/purl wise' is just something so obvious to most knitters and part of the english terminology (i'm a non-native english speaker) that it was just never shown.
    Thank you! You solved one of my knitting mysteries! 🧡 And thank you for explaining the jogless join as well, i look forward to try this on baby hats and socks!

    OK, sorry about the mess but my head just exploded! This is a game changer for me because I wanted to start, finally, a Cardigan for my self and knew I would be using a yarn that had to have alternating skeins. I've almost finished one for my Hubster but didn't need to alternate skeins. And now I have no excuse not to start one for me, except for picking out a pattern. Thank you so much for this tutorial, and yes we love your Babbles too! You are a Darling. You dish out pretty sage advice for someone so young. Jan B.

    Thank you so much for this! I was trying to make my very first sweater and I just couldn't get the switching of the yarn right so I kept knitting away but after a bunch of rows I noticed how bad that looked so I would tear back to the ribbing and then try to make it look better only to see eventually that it didn't look any better and tear back again. I finally gave up and tore it all out and went back to knitting socks. I am so excited to start that sweater again and use this method. You have just given me my knitting mojo again!

    Grace, Thank you so much for this video. It came to me at the exact moment that I needed it too, unreal. What an excellent, clear video and even your answers to the comments were illuminating and answered questions for me (the technique is meant for in-the-round knitting, not for pieced-and-seamed work, and with wider stripes it would create a float in the back of the work). My question now is: what do you do at the end of your garment to neatly finish off the helical knitting? I would love to see a demonstration of that!

    • @GraceTheBabbler
      @GraceTheBabbler  5 років тому +2

      xraymdabm you end up knitting with one colour for a few rounds. And then bind off in one. The extra end you have from the previous colour is just woven in where you stopped. If everything is a similar colour then it doesn’t make a difference.

    Thank You, Grace! I’m using this on a Sockhead hat where I’m using two different yarns. For the 4” rib, I carried the yarn. When I began the transition, I remembered your UA-cam post on the jogless join. I LOVE it! Now, the next time, I need to figure out how to do this on ribbing. ?? Move those 3sts knitwise or purlwise depending if it’s K part of the rib or P part of the rib? Just proves.....those little things in life can make such a big difference. 😊Thank you again, Ann

    • @SammyMaeQ
      @SammyMaeQ 5 років тому +4

      You would want to slip the stitches purlwise regardless of the pattern so that their orientation is unchanged when you do actually come around and work them in pattern. Slipping purlwise does not change the stitch orientation on the needle while slipping knitwise does.

    This is such a useful technique! I have many leftovers from hand dyed yarn that I’ll now be able to use again!! Thank you so much,
