Wow - this brings me back! I studied Pai Lum with Murray Beatts in North Great George's Street. It must have been around 1980 (ish). Thank you so much for posting this!
I was at the one in 1985. I trained with the Limerick fire dragon club .I seem to remember Master St Charles having a go at some guy who didn't "have authorisation to film the event " .Taking your life in your hands weren't you ?? 😄
Very interesting. I did Pai Lum in Fire Dragon Dundalk for a couple of years before it closed down & I think Fire Dragon itself as an feel apart soon after. I always wondering why the Shotokan kata was taught along with the Pai Lum forms? Learned 3 Short forms of the Tiger, the Henan Shodan, then Dragon Dance, Henan Nindan etc etc.
As for the "style" of the spear form, at that stage I was training under Ch'ng Ewe-Cheng in UCD. He took the traditional spear form of his school (Penang Sao Lim Athletic Association) and added a modern wushu flair to it for the purposes of the competition.
Daithi, it is indeed! I didn’t know there was footage of that event until I saw this a few months ago. When I started watching the clip, I wondered whether I might catch a brief glimpse of myself. I never imagined you had captured almost the whole form. Thanks so much for this.
@@Daithi333 It's quite likely, Daithí. I had already decided to leave Fire Dragon at that point, although I did not handle it well. But I was still around North Great George's Street up to that event.
Are you sure this is 1985? I was in the Dundalk Dojo And at one of these events 82 or 83 Sifu Beatts left Pai lum in 84 or 85 I visited the Dojo in North Great George's Street...there was a hotel on the corner ...was it the Belvedere? Got to see In Tua Nua play there after training... I'm American but lived in Ireland from 1981 to 1989 15 to 23 My brother and I actually worked as assistants and monitors at the Dublin event...Master St Charles Gave my Brother and I a plaque in Appreciation...those were the days... @@WuzuquanSpain wow, great to hear from you, God only knows how many years it is since we have seen or spoke with one another. How are you, hope all is well with you? Are you still training any martial arts?
@@WuzuquanSpain I am great thanks. Still training away, concentrating on Muaythai and Filipino Martial arts at the moment. Delighted to hear you're still training and I get a look at your UA-cam channel Declan 👍 Very best wishes to you 🙏

Wow! I stumbled across this by accident. It was 1985. I’ve never seen myself do that form. 35 years later. Thanks for this, Daithí.

Hi there.
That's me doing the spear form, back when I had a full head of hair. It's definitely 1985.
