I’m sorry I’m lazy, you may have done this already but the 2nd edition blood bowl is a game you should take a look at if you want a retro game to mess around with.
Haslab is supposed to release a new version of this game (though from what I've seen it is mostly just upgraded minis and art work...... maybe some upgraded rules). But they also said they would be releasing some expansions that never got released back in the 90s plus new ones at later dates.

I got HeroQuest for Christmas when I was a kid. I never played the actual game (as no one would play it with me ffs) but I spent hours and hours imagining my own rules and adventures.
Me too finally had 2 friends to play with one afternoon. That was it. I decided to paint the whole box .... with posterpaints!!!! Burried in the attic for 25 years .finally brought it out when my kids were about 9-10 ... 30 years later they still hold up !!!!
Yes! This game is still one of my childhood treasures and I've only recently started to paint the miniatures after having played blank ones for over 25 years.

I actually still have this game, with the expansion sets, and recently started playing it with my kids. The figures were the first ones that I had ever painted. Whenever I paint my marines, my kids paint some of the remaining Hero Quest models. It’s a family affair!

Its what started me down the road of getting in to DnD and other tabletop games. Edit: "The correct way: with enamel paints and gloss varnish!" Oh god that killed me. Right in the nostalgia where the only paints that existed in my area were Testors and hobby paints.
I had the chance to play this wonderfull game when I was a kid, with a couple of friends. As a brazilian kid with no real chances to play these kinds of games, I felt lucky and enjoyed like crazy those days. Now, I can't afford to buy a used one in here, because they are crazy expensive and most of the times, incomplete, so I'm 3D printing mine! Heroquest is THE best game of all time!! I had it when I was young and I kept it all the time! I was lucky enough to find an unpunched version of the game and your video make me wanting to painting all the set to play with my kid too!! Thank for this video, I didn't cry you did!
Your collabs & crossovers read like a list of my favorite my content providers: Miniac - Tick! Midwinter Minis - Tick! BardicBroadcasts - Tick! You only need to do something with Doctor Faust then you have the full set!
Love this game, major part of my childhood with my brother. I have my original set plus some expansions, and also found a mint copy in a opshop... so very happy. Cool video and I love that you got BardicBroadcasts to cameo as well.
Ha. I found a copy of this at a yard sale for $1 like 8 years ago. Sadly it wasn't my thing back then. Tried to get some folks to play it with me but everyone got bored. Ended up flipping it on eBay. Somehow it was 100% complete so It ended up going for $100 at auction.
This was a bittersweet video for me. My older brother had this game when I was little. He was never into mini's or war games, so the game sat on the shelf. I would occasionally get into the game and play with the pieces. Over time the pieces of the game got destroyed form me playing with them. When I was 12 I discovered Warhammer and got into the hobby. As an adult I learned more about Hero Quest and really got a good understanding of what I destroyed. I have never been able to play this game and I probably never will now. SO thank you for this video, it hurts but at the same time I am so happy to see that people still remember this game and someone gets to enjoy it.
Yes! As a father of 5 daughters, the youngest is 3, Heroquest is loved in my house. I too never play it in my younger days And I am now enjoying the rewards of Playing it for the 1st time with my own children. Game on!
I painted my brothers hero quest including all characters and furniture when i was 14yrs old, then mum gave me my own boxset for my birthday... never painted my own set. Bringing back many memories, cheers for the video.
I could bite myself in the ass: I had that game in my childhood, only played with the figures basically, but never the game and back then I wasn't interested in miniature painting or didn't know this would have some value someday and we threw it out or left it or whatever, when my parents moved.
I'm 47 and still have my hero quest and all the expansions from back in the 80's. My son, daughter and wife still pull it out and play a few games now and then. The best thing about hero quest is..... playing this old fantastic game with your family.
The best thing about heroquest is that you're now reading this in The Bard's voice! Truly the best voice to laud praise upon one of the greatest games to ever be boxed. The best thing about heroquest is the entry level! Many a lad (or lass) cut, their adventuring teeth, on this cracking adventure. And well they should have, as it is the finest adventure in all the land!
Emil, you could 3D scan the minis. Mesh the photos together in Meshroom and print the replacements. as for the downloaded meshes, load them into Blender and fix them. :)
Heroquest was my first step into both the Miniature Wargame and RPG hobbies in 1989 when I was 8 years old! loved it so much as a child, but lost and/or broke components as I was growing up. A couple of years back I was awfully lucky and managed to get a complete set of the Heroquest: Advanced Quest box that had the core game and several expansions plus extra miniatures included. I keep meaning to sit down and get them painted up, maybe to get my own kids to give it a try too. Looking forward to seeing you complete these and loved the cameo from The Bard :D Take care :)
Hero Quest had a massive impact on me as a kid and got me into Warhammer and fantasy in general. This video hit home and really made me reflect on how awesome this HQ truly is. I'm definitely going to pull out my game and paint the models. Thanks!
I can't hit the like button enough on this. I owned a copy of this game when it came out. Got it as a Christmas gift the year it came out. I have a double set and one of the modules now. There are ways to get downloads of the expensive modules free and be able to play them.
Always love to see, those memories getting reanimated in what ever kind of way. I grew up with board games like hero quest and star quest. To see those miniatures painted on such a high level is quite awesome. As a kid, I neither have the skill or the money/stuff to paint em all. So I really love to see if you could paint at least one of every kind?! You did a great job on the first few btw. Keep it up!
A good friend recently gifted me this plus 2 of the smaller expansion packs, the timing of this video perfect to inspire me to paint them. Thank you for posting this video.
During lockdown I started playing this game with my 4 and 6 year old kids. They love it. I've never seen them eat their veggies so quickly so they've got more time after dinner to play a round of HeroQuest. They play elf and wizard so a fire spell is just a "kill monster" and a water spell is a full heal.
I painted up the elf a while back. Turned out better than I thought it would. It's lots of fun to take old school or pre-slotta models and give them a modern style paint job. Some of then have a simple charm that's missing in a lot of current stuff. I would love to see a video where Emil paints up some really dodgy seventies lead.
Heroquest was my gateway, my payhway in. Me and my brother made new boards, dungeon tiles, bought the expansions... man, i used to spend all Saturday making quest maps to play all day Sunday. So much fun. Advanced hero quest was cool too but combat took forever and it was much more complicated. This game is just top tier stuff and I hope your kids get a kick out of it. Please revisit this when you have everything painted, I would love to see it. Enjoy!!
Wow, this game changed my life, don't know if is the best ever made, but surely it has the most special place on my heart and memory. It was my first fantasy and warhammer game ever all the way back in 1994, I was only 6 years old and played with my older siblings.
Hey Emil, our HQ stories are pretty similar. I was able to play the game a couple of times when I was around 8-10 yo, thanks to my big bros gf having a copy. Although she took it home and I never saw it again, I think that was the initial spark that turned me towards the warhammer style products. But it wasn’t until I grew up and had a family of my own that I decided it was about time I got my hands on a copy so that we could all enjoy it. I found 2 copies in charity shops priced at jus a few £s each, however neither was complete but could be combined to make 1 1/2 copies. So after some fixing of joints and many months of painting (I don’t get much time to devout to painting) I finally had a complete game. 2 coats of Matt varnish later and we were playing! The kids then asked me about once a week if we could play it again so I’m happy to say it was all worth it! Both of my kids have made their own quests and I’m hoping that one day too far away we’ll be able to play 40k or a LOTR game too! (If only there was a streamlined/stripped down version that was as easy to learn to play as any of the other 200+ board games we have) It was great seeing your style applied to these old skool minis! And the addition of the 3D printed parts might’ve made me drool jus a lil bit! 😅
Oh the memories. I had this game when I was a child but none of my friends ever wanted to play it. Sadly it somehow got lost when we moved to another apartment. I think I should do exactly as Squidmar and try to get some boxes to build a complete one... Although they are quite pricy.
Came to say I love your channel. I bought Heroquest last week (for ridiculously expensive) and ended up here. Would love to see you paint Heroquest the minions. I've been browsing your tutorials and want to thank you for the tips and tricks I've learned. Keep up the good work!
Great game my dad got us the game in NYC when visiting my grandmother. We played the game for years all together with all the expansions. Got me into painting and we even molded minis ourselves using the figures.
Heroquest is a fantastic game that doesn't require a lot of prep time. I remember getting this game during the Christmas or 1991 and playing the hell out of it with friends. I still have my vintage copy and I recently got the new HQ when it was crowd funded.
I had a dream about hero quest last night, a game I haven't played in over 15 years, and I googled and found a polygon article published yesterday saying that it's being rereleased for 2020. I'm stunned that I had a dream about it a day after news leak on the game being rereleased again. I still have my original hero quest but I need to superglue some of the pieces of the miniatures that broke off. I love that your daughters are getting into this. I'm shocked the expansions cost that much money in the aftermarket
The best thing about Heroquest is the GARGOYLE! Great video! I love how well you painted those heroes and the test skeleton!! I did play this game back in the early 90s and actually have the base set and the first two expansions with it. Always lots of fun. Havmt played it in years but I have been inspired to now break it out and paint the miniatures! I hope your daughters will enjoy playing with you as much as you are eager to play with them!! Its a good intro to D&D really since you have a games master running it. Personally, I moved over to Warhammer Quest which I liked a little more because you played against the game instead of needing a games master. But they are both great games.
Too much nostalgia. Like so many people around my age, getting this box at Christmas set me off on the hobby path. Still remember seeing the minis for the first time.Give me a bloody time machine now!
i had this, i played it with a friend that sadly died, i had some extension packs too, but i never had the heart to ask for it back from his mother and father, to see folk enjoy this game today is great, it creates memories that are priceless, its the game that got me, eventually, into gaming
Brilliant video! I have not thought of HeroQuest for decades. This brings back memories from when I was a kid playing it with friends. Now I'm getting all nostalgic. Great work as always, love your channel!
Been watching your videos for a while, and, as an English man, it took me this long to really comprehend that English isn't your first language. You are just so good at it that it didn't even register. Have fun with your kids! I'm looking for an affordable space crusade to play with my 9 and 7 year olds 😊
Great vid. You’re a cool dad getting your kids Heroquest and then painting the minis so awesomely. My son is nearly 4 and number 2 is on the way soon. Thankfully my original copy of HQ is in my attic waiting for them to be old enough to play it 😀
Great video added bonus for getting Bardic Broadcasts involved. I was lucky enough that a friend has this game growing up. This was my introduction to tabletop RPG.
My friend had this when i was a kid. We played it once together and it was a blast, but he never got it our again despite my eagerness. Thankfully, as an adult, i made friends with a guy had a lot of board games and so i got the pleasure of revisiting the nostalgia. Simple but really fun game for all ages.
I personally grew up playing this game. I have a few copies of it and still love it to this day ( with a few homebrew mods ) So simple and easy to play... got me hooked on RPGs !
The best thing about HeroQuest is the Bard! The second best is ignoring the roll-to-move rule, outside combat; instead just let each player character move to the next door or corridor corner. With each round passing without monsters visible I gain one 'point' I can spend to spring a trap/similar on the healthiest character, rolling a combat die to avoid/take damage. If I don't use my 'points' and obtain as many as the wandering monster's defense rating, I place such a monster and attack.
I couldn't believe the title of the video when it came out ! I played Heroquest all the time with my father when I was a kid, and I've been looking for a complete copy for almost 20 years...
Way back in December of '91 (I can't believe it was almost 29 years ago!!!!) I was working evening shift at a Toys 'r Us in Saint Louis, Mo., USA. It was a few minutes before closing time when a mother brought her daughter in with the HEROQUEST game she'd gotten for christmas just a day or two earlier. The girl had been trying to separate the figures from the sprue and had broken several of them. You could tell the poor kid had been crying. I called out to my manager and told him about the situation, he had me go grab one off the shelf and sit down with her and look at her sprues and exchange her damaged minis and sprues for our good ones. While I was making sure everything was taken care of I asked her if she had an older brother. She said she did. I asked her if her brother built models, then I looked up at mommy since I figured the girl might not understand quite what I was asking. Mommy nodded. I then asked if she knew if her big brother had a good X-ACTO knife, and again I looked up at mommy, who smiled knowing where I was going and gave me a big nod and told me that he'd just gotten a very nice X-ACTO set for christmas. I then suggested that if she asked her big brother real nice and said "please", she might be able to get him to use his X-ACTO to cut the figures from the sprue without damaging them. The little one promised me she'd do that, and walked away with a big smile on her face and gave me a big hug while I was still sitting on the floor with her. Her mother thanked me as well, and they went away happy. That was the closest I ever got to HEROQUEST. Never played it. I think that little girl would now be about 36 or 37. Anyway, that's my HEROQUEST story. Great vid.
This is awesome. Ive painting my copy but it’s been taking me quite sometime. I was going to paint and sell it but now you have me seconding guessing that. I also have hero quest advanced :)
This was my entry into D&D and then Space Hulk. My friends kids got the game when I got married. They still have it and play with their kids now. A timeless classic.
heroquest was sold here in brazil WITHOUT the miniatures, they were just cardboard images of the characters with a base to put them on, still loved to play it
Hero Quest is such a beautiful gem of a game. My Dad got my siblings and I to play this with him when we were kids, so mum could have a break playing all the characters haha Now that im 25, my family still busts out this game at family gatherings every now and then. Pure nostalgic bliss :)
I had it. Played many times with my brother and his friends. Was very funny. Never a miniature was painted, but our imagination made the miniatures looks better than painted.
I had Hero Quest as a teen and got into Warhammer in high school because of it. Sadly I lost parts and tossed the rest years ago thinking I was done with it. I bought a copy cheap on eBay about two years ago and painted it all last year. My 8 and 5 year old love playing it.

Heroquest is THE best game of all time!! I had it when I was young and I kept it all the time! I was lucky enough to find an unpunched version of the game and your video make me wanting to painting all the set to play with my kid too!!
Thank for this video, I didn't cry you did!
Your collabs & crossovers read like a list of my favorite my content providers:
Miniac - Tick!
Game on!
Godspeed to you! I have 3 sons and plan to play this with them when they are a little older!
I painted my brothers hero quest including all characters and furniture when i was 14yrs old, then mum gave me my own boxset for my birthday... never painted my own set.
Bringing back many memories, cheers for the video.
This is absolutely AMAZING!
I could bite myself in the ass: I had that game in my childhood, only played with the figures basically, but never the game and back then I wasn't interested in miniature painting or didn't know this would have some value someday and we threw it out or left it or whatever, when my parents moved.
Please do a painting tutorial for some of the Heroquest minis !!! We know that you love orks for instance ;-)
The best thing about Heroquest is finding out it has a Swedish version! (And Bardic Cameos!)
And well they should have, as it is the finest adventure in all the land!
got this for my son back then still have it also expansion sets we painted it and still play it great game
Looking forward to seeing you complete these and loved the cameo from The Bard :D
Take care :)
"Loads of enamel paint and gloss varnish!"
I feel...struck...
I wish Bard was a regular uploader he's genuinely got a talent for comedy. He could have been a really big channel.
Heroquest is the main thing that got me into D&D. (probably 3/4 of the people here also)
I was a bit young when it came out, but my kids have really enjoyed playing it so far :D
Oh my god. I haven't watch the vid, and i already know that this Is going to be UA-cam gold.
Damn just got my mom to send me out old copy of this a couple months ago. Lol. Boys love it. 8 and 6. Need a new stair tile though.
(If only there was a streamlined/stripped down version that was as easy to learn to play as any of the other 200+ board games we have)
It was great seeing your style applied to these old skool minis!
Just bought one very cheap in a flea market, and here you are
Right on Emil. So pumped to see this video, and your take on painting these tiny pieces of gold up. I love playing this game with my kids. Enjoy!
HEROQUEST - Childhood memories! I remember getting my set for Christmas. My brother and I played for hours.
Thankfully my original copy of HQ is in my attic waiting for them to be old enough to play it 😀
the beauty of the older style models is not cluttered with detail allowing for the paint to shine
Great video added bonus for getting Bardic Broadcasts involved. I was lucky enough that a friend has this game growing up. This was my introduction to tabletop RPG.
One of my favorite games growing up!
My friend had this when i was a kid. We played it once together and it was a blast, but he never got it our again despite my eagerness. Thankfully, as an adult, i made friends with a guy had a lot of board games and so i got the pleasure of revisiting the nostalgia. Simple but really fun game for all ages.
This was one of the best games from my childhood!!!!!!
Hero Quest was what got me into Warhammer in the first place so this was cool to watch.
8:45 Nice, very authentic in style
I had the biggest smile while watching this. This was my first intro to mini gaming and legacy style board games.
My Dad got my siblings and I to play this with him when we were kids, so mum could have a break playing all the characters haha
Now that im 25, my family still busts out this game at family gatherings every now and then.
