      Dwarfs rock. I had a bunch of photocopied sheets for Advanced Hero Quest that put two players in the boots of Gotrek and Felix against a Skaven Clan when I was a kid. No idea where I got them but Gotrek was unstoppable. Sooooo many Fate Points! 😂

      I had the main game and one expansion pack, my mom would run the game for me and I had to beg my older sister and younger brother to play with me. We never made it to the expansion pack. I ran the dwarf and the barbarian (I think) and they would call the dwarf fat, I didn’t know the word “stout” and thought pudgy sounded childish so I said he was pudgdent which of course my family translated as pungent and made fun of my smelly dwarf.

    My family and I play HeroQuest to this day! Bought a complete set a few years back (to replace my long-gone childhood set) and we all enjoyed it. Soon friends started playing and, well, it snowballed into a HeroQuest/D & D kluge campaign that we've been running for four, nearly five years. It's been a great way for the kid to learn roleplaying, with a physical grid to follow and figurines on which to focus the imagination. Adding rules/powers/abilities has been simple and fun (the basic structure of the game is beautifully simple and easy to build on), and there's some great websites that have custom quests as well as the graphics resources to create your own. Got to be my all-time favourite board game... even though it's now much more than that :)

      Another reeeeeeaaaaaally great out of print game you guys would like then (if they like the older non disney StarWars as they should) is StarWars Miniatures. Its a tactical game where you build an army out of an agreed upon point allowance for all players and then break out the minis and the maps, and throw your squads against eachother to see who comes out on top. Its got jedi, sith, manadalorians, its got gonk droids, tauntauns, speeder bikes, its got a yoda force ghost, it has an at at, and rancors, its got friggin Dr. Evazon pre arm slice from Obi Wan. Just sayin, its also pretty cool.

    • @DragonTail49
      @DragonTail49 4 роки тому +2

      @@megamonstercookies We've created cards for what we call "battle abilities" (which charge up with each monster defeated, to a given value, then the special ability can be used) and "attrition abilities" (same, but for taking damage). They're either attacks, buffs or fast-move passes. The special items (like the Spirit Blade) are "soul bound" to certain characters as part of the overall narrative, items and money carry over from quest to quest, and one must make a skill roll (equal to or less than mind points on a D6) for trickier tasks, or interpreting items that relate to the quest lore. Also, if a player crits on an attack roll (all skulls), they get a "crit bonus" which they must physically roleplay... so a really cool kick/slash/shot, or whatever... that takes out more than one monster. A personal rule I've made, as the DM, is that my wife must act out her battle ability because she wanted a Sailor Moon-style magical princess moment for her female barbarian, and it's really cool and funny when she does :)

    This was a life changer for me. First time I painted figurines, I designed my own table map, and used my legos (Knights series) as game pieces. I had a blast thinking of new quests and creating a story arc. Hero's Quest lasted me a good number of years until I stumbled upon RPG Maker for the PS1. I've been making games since on various platforms.

    I really, really can't say enough about how much play value we got out of this when I was a kid! Those miniatures were so damn cool! We reused all of these parts in countless homebrews over the years and some have even made it into my nephew's games to this day. Loved this game!

    A friend had this back in 90's, I got into Warhammer Quest and have 2 copies of it on my shelf still. Warhammer Quest did get a relaunch from GW somewhat recently

    This was easily one of my favorite games I had as a kid. I loved all the little furniture & figures & used to play it with my friends all the time. I even found my original Hero Quest game again at a flea market. Such an awesome fun game.

    Again...another great video!! My friends never played HeroQuest but we did play Dark Tower, thanks for the deep cut. In NYC there is a store called The Complete Strategist, this is where my friends and I would spend our Saturdays in the late 80's to mid 90's. Wall to wall pen & paper RPG's and board games. We only stop going because we fell into Magic:TG.

    The memories and the time that instantly come back by seeing the box... kicked me right in the nostalgia. Funny story, the first time I played it with my cousin we had set up all of the pieces for the first adventure on the board... and then we realized after that you only place items on the board as they are discovered.. :/

    I remember seeing the commercials for this on tv and the images of the orcs and barbarian in comic books as a kid.
    I was a tad too young to play it and understand it. But hearing the name Hero Quest immediately bring those images back to me.

    This is still the most iconic dungeon crawl board game ever released IMO. I bought it in 1991 and played the hell out of it for years. It didn't feature the deep gameplay that newer entries (Gloomhaven, Descent, Claustrophobia, etc.) boast, but it's just loaded with open-ended possibilities and moves so fast that you could easily play through several scenarios in one sitting. Just a great game!

    Awwwwwww yes. I loved playing this many many many many many years ago back when I was 11 years old with my buddies. Super love this game. Its neat seeing information like this on an ancient game I loved so much. I still own my box copy. I didn't even know there was expansions. Sadly, when moving to grade school to high school, I lost all contact with my friends I played this game with as I went to a new school and never was able to play again.

    First encountered Heroquest when a friend had the original set. Loved the beginning game and ended up getting the novel back in the 90s. I still have that novel on my shelf to this day. Didn't know it was made my GW until I played Warhammer Quest in a local GW Store and noticed the uncanny resemblance, then I noticed it was advertised in a White Dwarf mag!
