Jumping from a prx quartz to a gs snowflake is pretty wild for beginners if you ask me.
😂😂😂
Different budget beginners I guess
@@mrrokoso Yeah I guess man, but it's hard to imagine a lot of beginners start with the snowflake.
Totally agree with you
@@mrrokoso also GS's value retention is garbage so it's easy to get a discount
I'm old enough to remember when a 'one watch watch collection' was called.....a watch 🙃.
(Nice video)
I am biased because I own one, but I think the Christopher Ward Trident is another good option for a bit less than the Mido.
Or the sealander
When I first started my watch addiction, I was always drawn to Christopher Ward but couldn't get past the name. It was like the watch equivalent of Ted Baker or Ben Sherman. I can't buy a watch named after another man.
We agree, but are also biased.
I have a C63 GMT and I love it.
Thank you for recommending Mido, they are seriously underrated.
absolutely, though I would recommend the Oceanstar 200C instead of the 600, as they suit a more wearable size than the pretty chunky 600.
The Mido video itself was a bit shit. It was like they were scared to let people have a good look at the watch and did a bunch of violent jump transitions every time you got a glimpse of the watch. The only thing you could get a good look at in that vid was the male model
Quartz is so underrated for new watch people, I find it’s hard to get newcomers used to having a watch on their wrist and even harder if they have to worry about what winding it means.
Lol how stupid can someone be . Takes about 1 minute to learn how to wind a warch at most and that's if you're very dumb. Quartz are good as beater watches though
They have poor resale value if any.
@@creedorthat's something which is only considered by proper enthusiasts. For newcomers, this is very far down the list of things they take into account when buying a first watch. The primary considerations for newcomers are likely to be size, design, price, comfort, brand and versatility.
@@creedor Why should I care about resale value? It's sick to think about selling watch even before you buy it, lol.
@@daniellehotsky1776 The title says “First luxury watches for beginners” so you’ll most likely want to sell it later for an upgrade.
I REALLY don't think you can say a 6.3k or 8.1k Omega is a beginner's watch. Not by a long shot.
It is considered a beginner watch because GADA watches accomplish the most in one to small watch collections... Someone with a 30 watch collection would have more dedicated pieces (a formal watch, a sports watch, an office watch, a beater, etc) while one watch collections need that one watch to be very very versatile such as an Omega Aqua Terra.
Title literally says beginner LUXURY watch, if its cheap it's not luxury.
It is when you start considering the selection available in the 5 figure price range or even going into the 6 figure price range…but it is all relative. I think everyone has their own “internal” price limit that they will ever spend on a watch and if that limit stops at 5 figures, then yes, you are correct a 6-8k watch is at the top end…
I know a lot of friends my age, late forties, going out to buy first luxury watch. They don't start on anything cheap or unknown, straight to Rolex Omega. Not going to be collectors, so just want to drop some money on a brand they know. My first watch was a Speedmaster, although I have since bought a Rolex. Not that uncommon and why faff about with cheaper lesser known brands? Buy a couple of nice pieces and move on.
La ragazza comunque ha presentato anche il Kaki e il Seagull. Le riconosco un certo gusto.
My first luxury watch was a Black Bay 58. And you did contribute to that choice.
I have a number of luxury watches and I wear the Snowflake the most. When I bought it, it was when it was first released in the US and I got it much cheaper than it is now. It was my best watch purchase. It is light as a feather and keeps perfect time.
Copy that. GS is nearly incomparable for artistry, quality, and price. My first purchase was the steel laquered version in the 44GS case, but will follow up with the titanium series, having experienced the wonders of titanium in more recent purchases. Great choice!
@wowlsj Teddy Baldasarre did a video about the Spring Drive. It is an amazing invention. It took 20 years to perfect it.
I love my Bulova Lunar Pilot 43mm and Seiko Flightmaster. 😎👍
Love Junghans Max Bill. For me best choice from this list as for beginners.
To answer your question, my first foray into higher levels watches was the Mido OceanStar 200C with a black face and rose gold accents. My wife got it for me while we were on vacation in Germany. Absolutely love the watch!!! That started me on the path to being a moderately priced watch geek. Have added a Seagull 1963 in bronze which I love, a Wise AD8 in bronze with a beautiful green face, and now a Wise GMT in 904L steel that I am eagerly anticipating. As much as I love the higher end watches such as Omega and Role, I find that I am more drawn to some of the amazing microbrands that are now available. Part of it is money, but to be honest I like the idea of supporting these small brands that are doing really cool things vs. supporting a brand that spends more on advertising and sponsoring athletic events. Wise Watches from Thailand truly has amazed me with their quality and their design. There use of 904L steel is also amazing at the price point! I also think a Christopher Ward is in my immediate future, might try their quartz watch as I am out of space in my watch winder.
Good video , however i was very surprised by the absence of any Oris models?
They are crap. No man's lands. Nothing like omega rolex etc but not cheap. Holdover watches at best.
I am not a big fan of Oris’ offerings for men. In many instances, I think CW offers just as much watch for less money. OTOH, I think that Oris makes some very appealing watches for women. Wife has an Aquis - has the practicality of an automatic dive watch in a relatively small case (and subtle wrist presence). She also has a Big Crown Pointer Date automatic. Small and very feminine, but also very practical (100 M WR, screw down crown, pointer date complication, deployant clasp on leather strap, display caseback).
Best entry level diver under 1.000 € is Certina DS action 38 mm.
I'm surprised Certina don't get mentioned more often in these watch videos and socials.
I agree but only for the ladies, I bought one for my wife. I don’t find their mens watches that good but they do provide a femine touch which you cannot get anywhere else.
@@ragetobe it looks similar to the ones from Tudor and other luxury brands but if she likes it that's great 👍
@@anclajeolfativo I don’t like Tudor either, I had a BB58 S&G and I found it to be significantly thicker than the Rolex counterpart which I now own. I tried to avoid it but Rolex just do it so well.
Best entry level diver is a Casio Duro, it's not even open to discussion.
My first Luxury watch was a Longines Hydroconquest.
Love the Omega AT.
I loved mine but it got the boot once I realized the high polished center links scratch just looking at them. I’m all for wearing my watches and them picking up signs of wear but the center links stand proud of the outer links and seems like it touches everything within two miles of your wrist.
@@thatguy6111 I had wondered about that. I think I'd wear it no the rubber strap for that reason....plus the rubber strap looks pretty good, too.
@@morgan97475 It was a “never meet your hero’s” type of feeling for me. I wanted it so bad, then it never failed to let me down. I sold it and picked up a rail master second hand and a Christopher Ward Sealander. I got most of the same look from the CW and still had a coaxial Omega with the rail master. The rail master is undervalued by miles and miles.
I don’t know if this counts as “luxury” but I think the Seiko Presage line is a GREAT entry point. That whole like is gorgeous. I started with the ice blue Cocktail Time and I still love it. I’d like to get another one or two in different colors.
Absolutely beautiful watch and very affordable. Around $500’ish.
My first luxury watch was a Longines Hydroconquest 39mm. Since then I've moved on but I highly recommend it as a versatile and functional Swiss piece. My second was a Yema Superman GMT which I still have in my rotation. An underrated brand in my opinion.
All Omega white dials are gorgeous. Seamaster 300, aqua terra, Snoopy, the one you showed.
Spring Drive is not quartz!
Lmao yes it is! 😂
It uses a quartz crystal for its time keeping and thats not a bad thing at all!
@@kettusnuhveli341 it has its own category.
At least it’s quartz assisted.
That was a big jump from quartz prx to grand seiko spring drive haha love the content :)
Nice choices. The Junghans Max Bill looks like a $10k watch; so stylish and that ‘4’ is so beautiful.
Thanks! I agree, the Max Bill Auto is truly stunning!
First watch back in the 90s was a Seiko 7A28-7110 pvd coated. First luxury semi luxury watch was a Heuer Coral 980 026 Monnin thick also pvd coated. First luxury watch was a Rolex Submariner 14060m in 2003 and its been a faithful companion ever since
Hi. Love the video. Where online would you recommend I look to buy the Seagull?
100% agree regarding the last omega👍🏼
Great choices but maybe slow down a little, please.
Great picks Jenni
I've been getting into quartz lately. The Grand Seiko quartz movement has just as good workmanship as their mechanicals, and the accuracy is phenomenal. I also have a Seiko Arnie and its solar quartz movement is sooooo convenient. My Seiko 300 meter Tuna 7549-7010 has a fascinating movement: essentially, the 6309 mechanical from the original Turtle converted to quartz power. I always laugh when I hear watch people complain about "lack of innovation" in a watch industry that worships obsolete tech; quartz IS the innovation.
Longines Spirit is a handsome watch!
My luxury watch is: San Martin SN0107-G Ranger. San Martin SN0107-G1 2023 V2. And i also have a Pulsar quartz 2001-V103-6059, which I found on the flee market, a very elegant watch. And besides those I wear a SKMEI - Shir Kuh Mei - "Beautiful Moments in Time". (粤, 闽, 客). 1123 digital retro watch. Which is perfect. And I can actually afford it :) My spare watch is the Casio W217HM-7BVEF. With the dark watch face.
^this guy balls.
Quality watch but a 99.9% clone of another watch isn't luxury.
@@fontyyy yeah… that went over your head.
@@fontyyyluxo é aquilo que não pode ser copiado facilmente
Wouldn’t a Casio Oceanas or MRG g shock be considered a luxury watch, what’s the criteria in order for a watch to be considered luxury?
Love your videos. Usually everything is crystal clear but this time - microphone issues? - I could hardly understand half of what you said. Love the watch choices.
I thought the sound was perfect, as it normally is. Edit: I’ve just checked a few of her other videos to check the sound level and she is as clear as a bell.
I understood the approach of wildly varying prices. Just because you’re new to luxury doesn’t mean you don’t have funds. This has something for everyone.
My first luxury watch was Tudor Black Bay Burgundy. I love it!
I love my Tissot PRX Quartz! And I have other automatics. With the rubber strap, the Tissot is my go to daily wear.
I have been watching too many watch channels lately and bought a Seagull 1963 chronograph so I have 3 watches in total. (The others being a 1967 Omega Constellation and an Srxmod Casio Ae1200.)
The listed watches in this video pretty much hit my wish list spot on. Longines Spririt Gmt and Junghans Max Bill handaufzug are two of my favorite watches, with a GS spring drive Shunbun being the grail watch in case I get the chance to visit Japan again.
I am also considering a 35mm Tissot Prx. I am not sure how you managed to match this list to my taste this accurately, maybe having lived in Germany in 2017 influenced me...
Got the PRX automatic and wore it for 1 year before buying my Omega SMP 300 green dial. It's an unbelievable jump in quality and since I got the SMP300 it got 100% of my wrist time. Such a versatile watch, it goes with everything, the bracelet makes sense after you start wearing it. I'm planning on getting the deployant rubber strap for more versatility and then thinking on my next watch. The moonwatch in white dial is awesome but the bracelet feels like a stretched out old rolex. The other option would be an explorer 40mm.
My First Watch was the Tudor Royal in 41 mm with the Blue dial ❤️
Lovely video! My first one was a Seamaster 300 M. I’ve had it longer than most of my other watches that have come and gone in the meantime and I think I probably always will keep it. I also have added a black bay 58 and a Cartier Santos XL, which is stunning.
Thanks for including quartz watches here :) Quartz heads like me appreciate it.
Great selections.
My first luxury watch was a Omega Planet Ocean. I love the way it looks and have been given many compliments on the watch. It was a tough choice between this or the Speedy, I think I will eventually get a speedy in my journey for a 3 watch collection.
Grand Seiko Snowflake will be my next timepiece. Is it Christmas yet?
Enjoy that timepiece.
Very good and versatile list 👌
tudor bb54 and ranger are my ❤
omega diver 300 is fantastic and wears well for me at 6'4". going for the the 42 zulu time gmt in blue next.
Excelent selection watches Jenni 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😎
cool to see the omega planet ocean which was my first entry lux watch and still my daily wear. only starting to dive in the luxury watches again now to maybe buy a new one
Recommending the Planet Ocean over the SMP300 is so insane and crazy to be honest, especially to a first time luxury buyer. I have an 8" wrist and that thing is so insanely heavy and comically big. It's just not a realistic option at all for a daily, regular wear for 99% of the people out there. Might as well at that point recommend the new Sea Dweller in full gold why don't we lol
I’m with uou. The SMP300 should be on this list, and not the PO.
Yeah. I used to think I should have got PO but with time I appreciate smp more
Smp300 isn't a diver, you can't turn the bezel in diving gloves.
It's a pretty watch but you can't dive with it.
The planet ocean comes in 39.5 and is a nice watch.
The SMP300 is garbage.
My wife wears a 37.5 mm PO. Very striking piece - she loves it. But it’s been discontinued.
I have the Hamilton and it's a great watch for everyday wear
One word, Tudor. It just make sense 😄
Waited for Nomos to be in this list;)
Baume and Mercier . In house movements , great looking ,and tough as nails. Affordable for new enthusiast
It depends whether it’s a first and potentially only watch or a conscious start of a collection. Good to have a range of budgets too as not everyone is starting to get into watches when they don’t have much money. I have the Explorer 1 and the blue dial Aqua Terra and both are excellent everyday watches. I’d add in the Cartier Santos or Tank. Personally I’d go for the quartz versions. Tag Heuer Carrera also a good choice. Plenty of microbrand GMTs out there - I like Farer. Any Longines has to be a good choice at the moment as they are putting out some fantastic watches, including the Zulu Time.
I would have included the Nomos Tangente on this list, an elegant and affordable choice for a beginner. The watch that stood out to me on your list was the IWC.
I acquired a 1965 Rolex OP (1570) in 1980. So that’s one and done.
A bit common, uncomplicated, but properly maintained 1” per day. It’s a no brainer. Although current maintenance costs are more than I paid for it, it’s my everything watch
OMEGA ATs are so underrated!
Lovely Episode Jenni. Thoughtful, refreshing and not choosing the easy Options. Really enjoyed and appreciated your insights. Long may your excellent Channel continue.
That Junghans is absolutely gorgeous, if only it came with an exhibition caseback. I'm particularly keen on the "Kleine".
I bought my first luxury watch a month ago-a second-hand Tudor Black Bay 58 in navy blue-after saving my salary from a 4-month internship, which was part of my graduate studies. Frankly, I have no regrets. It's lighter than I expected, but it feels incredibly robust. I often find myself fiddling with the bezel, which always amuses my friends. Also, compared to my old daily, a ZRC from the 70s I must say that the shine of the luminova amazed me ! Since it's not a Rolex (at least not completely), it doesn't attract too much attention on the street, which is great because it allows me to wear it every day without worries. after all, no one expects to see a $3k watch on the wrist of a 19-year-old !
Sinn and Stowa have some interesting pieces at around the 1000-1200 price point, may not have the draw of some the more obvious names, but well worth a mention.
My luxury watch is a Rolex oyster perpetual. I was actually thinking of getting an omega constellation at that time, but Rolex holds up it’s value as compared to Omega watches so I went with Rolex and never regretted it. Now, I can’t believe how the price of Rolex watches has gone up…
I would also recommend a more basic APRO like a stainless steel time only one.
I consider myself a watch collector/enthusiast and 90% of these are nowhere near beginner watches and brands. It took me 15 years and 30 plus watches to get my game up to some of these higher up brands.
My suggestions would be:
Grand Seiko SBGN027 /029 for everyday, quartz and GMT, and Longines Hydro Conquest for it variety of sizes and straps etc.
perhaps the Longines conquest for quartz and everyday entries as well.
Totally agree on the speedy. Love it. Prefer it to the black dial. But these are pretty spendy for "beginner" lux watches. I guess you didn't put a price limit on what you meant, tho.
I won't buy a grand seiko until they make a decent bracelet
They put so much finesse on the watch, but so little on the bracelet.
@@BruceCross yip
Their bracelet's are perfectly fine. It's just a matter of taste. It's like comparing steel to titanium. Of course the latter does feel 'cheap' to some people but there's absolutely no logical point to consider titanium worse than steel (besides the known differences in weight and scratch resistance). Same goes for the GS bracelets imho. They don't feel as solid and rigid as an Oyster bracelet from Rolex for example. But this doesn't mean that they are worse in terms of quality. The have a lot more flex but are therefore even more comfortable to wear, especially in titanium. But yeah, I would also welcome GS to release their sports / dive watches on more rigid bracelets so that we customers have at least a choice. They let us decide between their different movement types and between stell and titanium but they don't give us a choice in terms of bracelets.
@@SinnerAndSaint for the price, they are not fine. At all
Amazing video 📸👏👏👏
My first and only luxury watch is the Rolex DJ 41 2 tone yellow gold, fluted and jubilee with the black dial! Last week on The day after my wedding I happened to walk by a jewelry store and I didn’t they also sell Rolex’s, well I went in and ask for that model specifically and they sold it to me! 🎉 no wait no nothing! And I didn’t even mention a word about me getting married the day before till I was paying for it! I love the watch. It’s a little flashy with the yellow gold but no too much, it’s elegant, it goes with everything even sports clothing!
I wear a Certina DS 43 m automatic diver ceramic bezel, right at $1000.00 very accurate movement.
Thank you for all of the great content! Only surprised Nomos didn't wind up on the list here!
Best video u ever made. U have impeccable taste. Literally evedy watch in each categoery is beautiful. Tysm❤
Jenni! Can I suggest this list for beginners? F91W, Rolex Gold Deepsea, Richard Mille Felipe Massa.
That's how I started. And on my second day of collecting I bought a Cartier Crash.
The Seiko SPB143 in the divers category is missing for sure. It’s basically the BB58s Japanese cousin at less than half the price whilst having all the same vintage skin diver pedigree. The raised the price for the new model to around 1400€ I think… not cheap, still worth it though… I promise. Enjoying mine everyday for almost 2 years now. People comment on it thinking it’s a Rolex at first glance (sth I personally don’t like too much but it’s a conversation starter for sure!😅)
My first luxury watch is a Omega Seamaster 300. My Watches before this one are Seikos, Bulova's and Citizens.
Definitely wasn't expecting to get a lesson on Sonic the Hedgehog lore in this video 😅
I must have missed it
@@eyeheartsushi2212 It's at 4:40.
Best beginner watch is the sub date. In fact it’s the best watch ever made.
Not great choices, but appreciate ur effort
I think it’s called a Planet Ocean, not a Super Ocean. Though the latter is nice too.
For luxury quartz I'd drop the PRX and go Grand Seiko SBGX261
Doesn't get the recognition it deserves this one
I've got the SBGX263 ,so would agree with you, it's a lot more money than the PRX quartz though.
How do I not own a Max Bill yet?
I do not think that Junghans Max Bill watches make good first watches. And to a lesser extent, I would say that they do not make good watches for anyone. But to each their own. Here’s why: The bauhaus design of the dial needs to be seen in its entirety, but every time I see one of these models, the rounded crystal detracts from that, showing only part of the dial. In fact, I don’t think a rounded “pebble” watch should be used anywhere, except perhaps for what Ressence is doing, pushing the dial to the surface with oil. Otherwise the shape is just not practical, and nobody else does this because it is a flawed design.
I am not sure what a beginner means.
Personally I looking for a watch I like which I intend to keep forever.
I might end up with 2 or 3 watches in total if I want a bit of variety or find myself somewhere where a gold watch might not be a sensible choice.
If (say) I could afford a patek calatrava why shouldn't I buy that as my 1st (and maybe only) watch? Other than ignorance of servicing costs what makes a watch more or less of a beginner's watch?
Anything but quartz, Jenni!
seagaul is great one
If you’re going by socially defined categories - and you certainly are - then a dress watch needs to have a leather strap, not a metal bracelet, which means that the Omega Aqua Terra should not be considered a dress watch / should not be worn with a suit.
beginner watch collecting but no mention of certina ds action diver titanium? full titanium case and bracelet, saphire crystal, auto winding, 21,600vph , 80hrs power reserve, 300m water resistant...all that for $1000.00? or any microbrand at least.
Ooooohhhh Have you changed your mind about GS? ;-)
Jenni -- love your videos, but you made at least two major mistakes with the Omega PO diver: first, you show pictures of the chronograph when you're talking about the straight diver; second, you refer to it toward the end as the "Superocean". Cheers!
You should consider Ball. I have the engineeer master 2 diver world timer with display case back. I paid under $3k usd and it’s a lot of bang for the buck. I daily wear it using a NATO for comfort, but the bracelet is wonderful when I wanted a little more “bling”. Ball has a wide line and should really be considered, especially since you’ve mentioned the Chinese Seagull in this video.
How do you define a beginner luxury watch? How do you define a luxury watch?
Im a blue collar guy so beginner for me is affordable.
I dont think that tissot and hamilton are on par with the bigger brands you showed here.
Someone who has the money to buy an omega without thinking about it to much would not consider the tissot or hamilton as a worthwile watch.
So, i ask again. How do you define a beginners luxury watch?
I have two omegas as well as a PRX and Hamilton Murph they are all worth while
@@brynroberts9880youre another category alltogether. Youre the guy that can afford to buy all of these watches and im not sure youd consider any watch as a beginner watch. But correct me if im wrong.
I’m sure others have different definitions but if I would try give an answer it would be (for a beginner luxury watch, not only a beginner quality watch):
A brand with an unabrupted history, in house movement, good resale value, COSC certification or equivalent, few or none complications, stainless steel, and brand name well respected by watchmakers and not just status freaks.
@@brynroberts9880some people would choose the PRX because of it’s design history. ☺️
Which watch she is wearing?
1:21 it's not one of the smoothest, it is THE smoothest sweeping seconds
For me when it comes to diver I'll go for a tudor 54 and I also own the BB 36mm for dress watch :)
Those were my first 2 tudor luxury watches... hopefully I'll buy a few more in a different brand :)
Tag Heuer any good?
I like the Tissot PRX, but "Luxury watch" seems a bit overrated. 😄
I’m surprised Nomos isn’t on the list - they make incredibly accurate movements for a less than many watches that shove base ETA-clones in their watches. Handwinding one is a pleasure, too.
Very original selections….try thinking outside the box
❤
Oh wow. Mido got Kim Soo Hyun to endorse its watches.
Quarrtz no go no point , add to the list the JDM Seikos with 6R35 engine ex alpinist , pressage, prospex series
How about Panerai ?
