  • Buying Cheap Houses- Boring perhaps, but here's my thoughts about what I think I may do with the property I own. Also, check out my latest tiny house video...another talker but I'm back on the project.

    I first met you through your tiny house videos. Gradually I found your other interests. I am not a TV watcher and when I come in from my daily chores I love to rest/relax by watching UA-cam. You are on my list of top ten channels to watch and I don't find you boring at all.

    Those of us who are of a certain age can tell you that you can go to bed young one night, and wake up old the next. The important thing is to do what you enjoy doing. You seem to have a pretty good grip on that.

      @zippythechicken 4 роки тому +2

      this is true but I will add that if you are lucky you are old for a good third of your life so you have to plan for it early... keep it in the back of your mind.. notice what other older people do... don't laugh when you see an older person give up on something because its too much for them now... better that you realize you will be in that position some day... don't be distracted by dreams if you haven't dealt with reality

    I have been binge-watching your renovations channel for nearly a year now, and I didn't know until last night that this channel existed. While I enjoy watching the house renos, I am absolutely enthralled with your 'rambling' homestead videos. You make it feel like we're all hanging out. Plus, I just bought my dream homestead, so I am doing some of the same types of projects. You're definitely quite a few levels above me in expertise, but I really enjoy your content, I always learn new things from you, and it's nice to find a kindred spirit on UA-cam without all of the fluff and nonsense. I decided last night to start watching this channel from the beginning, and I have to say, it's pretty cool to see your online progression as a builder/homesteader/human being.

    Good ideas. I agree w/ your friend as far as tiny house location. Cabin idea is great @ 12'x15' with solar/wind turbine --> run off battery when needed (better than 12/3 extension cord).
    Cut the pine trees and plant some maple/walnut saplings and when you reach 70s, still be watching you, turn it into tables!! 👍

Hoping your tenants are paying too. An air bnb for your guests! Can't wait for the tiny house and anything else you do. Takes me away from what's really going on. A nice size property. I am glad that you were able to secure the property and keep it in the family line. As I grow older having "elbow room" and out in the country is the way to go. Property prices near Raleigh and Wake County NC are going through the roof. Yes getting rid of poison plants with any means possible is the way to go. I am allergic to them all. I had a terrible bout with them as a young teen and I never want to go through that again. About every inch of skin was eaten up. My cousin and I decided we would play in the woods shirtless and just wearing shorts and sandals. We had a few cuts and abrasions. I was a city boy and he was a country boy. He said that "this plant" was good for treating cuts. "This plant" ended up being poison sumac!

    You don't ramble. I can't wait to see all the things you want to do and all the things you don't want to do. Boy I understand how you feel when things get in your way. I love watching you work and over the years you have taught me so much , and I can't thank you enough. It's a beautiful property and a beautiful dream I know will come true because you love your family and you love your dreams. It will happen ! Love the slabs of oak and all the pine you processed. Wow that's allot of wood. I have never seen poison ivy before and in Australia we don't have it, thank God so thanks for showing it to me. It really needs to be poisoned for sure. Specially for the kids playing around it and if you want to have some animals or vegie gardens e,or go for walks in the beautiful Field it need to go. I love your tractor it's so nice and you got me on the Jeep wow it's amazing I would love to see videos of you working on that one for sure. I am now 58 year old grandmother and I think the older I get the quicker the time goes, it's scary to think that my heart is still of a twenty years old but my body is feeling the age. I love to do wood work and machanics so love that the pine is taken on the old bard look wow and those slabs are just beautiful ❤️. Thankyou for all the videos we want more the more the better. I am a fan that lives the futherest away so keep them coming . Gilly b

    I love the tiny house movement and some of the ideas are amazing. With your skills I would suggest you build an old English style Shepherd’s hut. Not sure if they ever came to America but in UK they are much sought after especially as garden buildings and for occasional off-griders. Well made ones go for Uber money: real silly money in the 10s of 000s of £UK. It would be a great quirk in the US if they’re not commonplace and I’ve no doubt they’d prove immensely popular. Good luck with whatever you do. PS you ramble all you like, your videos are absolutely top-rate: interesting, inspiring and educational . 🍻👍🏻

    It sounded like your tractor lost fuel prime from sitting. If it has an electronic lift pump, just letting it run with the key on before starting will refill the fuel system. If it has a mechanical lift pump, there should be a way too manually pump it prior to starting.

    I understand what you mean as I am mid 50's and I had a small chance back in my early 40's to start a homestead (had a dream about a camp/commune type off grid and self sufficient farm), I had a small but significant financial boost but at the time it wasn't what I was aiming for. Now....in hindsight it is exactly what I should have done.... Alas we can't redo so no point in regrets but 12yrs later I am now fixed in place in a way that is not good for me and I struggle to see any way out. I do try to keep positive (my daughter who is around your age want's this too which helps) that a way for us to get to the homestead idea and make it real is still there. We just have to be patient and let the universe push up where we need to be and be PREPARED to do what we need to to make it all happen.

    everything you do is a little closer to the end... you are right about how your thoughts on projects and things change dramatically from decade to decade.. I suggest that you start planning for that time when you are older and can't manage all the crap you have going... having that one ranch house single level where you can get around easy once your bones are tired... if you plan now a little bit it will make a big difference later. yeah don't mind at all about videos like this but do something more than just getting the tractor started... I would go for that broad leaf herbicide.. might as well get it done now before you move the house there and people are around getting itchy. :o)

    Diesels use glow plugs when first starting. So you turn the key on, then the glow plugs heat the cylinder, then you crank it. A good working diesel will fire right up after the glow plug cycle. There's usually a glow plug light on the dash that goes off when it's ready to crank over.
