You must not have raccoons or weasels around there. Chicken wire isn’t strong enough to protect against them here in Michigan. We use hardware cloth 1/2 inch. And run it out on the ground a foot out from the base to protect from the digging.
Might want to upgrade if you do have those critters, fox and opossum too will kill all for fun.
"survived to be weird another day" love it
They like their new home.😊
Bro., I CSN NOT tell you how much I enjoyed this video!!! Coop looks awesome!! So you're living in that house now correct?? FANTASTIC property & I'm happy for you guys!! Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!
I love this. I will say, you may want to increase the wire mesh. Raccoon get through pretty easy.
I need to, i’ve got some heavy steel mesh i’ve been meaning to add.
Not bad at all. You're going to spoil yourselves with fresh eggs, LOL. I have family with their own coop. Their coop has a set of wheels on the back so they can move it around to other spots on their property; consider adding some to your coop. BK
As someone already said chicken wire isn't the best for protection. Additionally deep litter is the way to go, keeps the smell down and compost down on its own.
The smell is surprisingly lit with my chickens. there’s only 4 and mostly live outside the coop. But some sort of liter wouldn’t hurt and they would enjoy it.
Live your coop. So cute!
Nice video. We had a few chickens growing up and I remember it fondly. Your children will as well.
My grandpa had a chicken coop and any time you couldn't find him, there he would be with the chickens following him around like he was their king. Pretty sure he hid liquor out there, and I KNOW he hid money there too. Haha
Mine follow me around as well, not constantly but often. I can pick them up and rub them, I like it more than them probably but they still let me.
That is awesome. I find myself not trusting chickens just because they peck so fast. Weird, but true. You are now the chicken king, bud....and that coop is real cool.
Very cute coop! FYI since you are leaving the little door open at night... Racoons can kill your chickens through the chicken wire. Hardware cloth would be better protection.
I lazily have a plan to add something tougher
Awesome 😊
You have a very good coup design. It is the odd chicken that gets the most attention. Road island red roosters can be a little testy. We have had serval different breeds. Bielfelder has been the calmest for us. Wish I could send you one. We are getting read for a dispatch day that most of the roosters are invited to. We got some of our chickens from green fire farms. The prices will let you know that my wife is on the crazy chicken person side of the spectrum.
thanks
I love this chicken coop. Interesting spot to keep it. So I get the impression you live in the brick ranch house now? Awesome house that is probably more suited to your family size. While others may stick their nose up and say its dated, it's built better than most places are today. All it needs is a really nice front porch! You may want to keep this coop portable like a tiny home with wheels in case you want to move it closer to the house. Enjoy your chickens! As a quick fix to the hole slap some chicken wire on it both sides.
You knocked that s one out of the park. Love the style and quantity of the build.
Thank you
" But she survived to be weird for another day"..I am holding your claws chic hen. Lots of love to you from a 'wierd' human
🙏💝😁
Looks awesome, Loved the family video xx
😁👍🏼
Access to the eggs from the top will be better on your back
Nice coop, i always wanted chickens, but so far a red fox and snapping turtle, has killed 11 of my ducks at the pond. I gotta level the playing field before i move to chickens. Nice video.
We’ve got plenty that can kill then here as well but it hasn’t happened yet. We are home a lot though so that keeps things away pretty good.
I had a great aunt who was attacked in the face by a rooster when she was a child. I'm not sure if it was a "regular" rooster or one of the ones my great grandfather used for cockfighting. She had scars on her face for the rest of her life, but thankfully none of the rooster's talons hit her eyes.
The coop looks very well done, as do all of your projects. Are you still making nutcrackers each Christmas?
@0:08 - What brand is that hyper extended limousine SUV??
Love the wobbly boards
Ha, it’s a Silverado with an extended cab and 8 foot bed. It’s quite long.
so are you living in the house now or still renting it?
Hey serious question?do chickens go to the bathroom were they eat??
Yes, they poop wherever the feeling hits them.
Are you going to heat it in the winter?
I don’t know, historically, not many chickens had heat in the winter so i’m not sure it’s necessary. I thought to insulate or seal it up better so it retains some heat from the day. I don’t want to run a light bulb hot enough to make a difference.
