FELLING TREES in the WOODLOT - OAK and POPLAR
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 лют 2022
- I went for one but got two. In this video I saw down a tall poplar and while at it take down a large dead standing oak. One was easy to get but the other was much more involved, while it may look simple to drag it out with a tractor, it's a bit unnerving maneuvering a tractor through the woods on uneven ground. The risk of rolling the tractor is high along with other dangers.

It is so nice to see you. It has been a while but I'm glad that you are back. I hope you see more
Thanks, been busy with lots of projects, family and the renovation. I've got a few videos done and uploaded. Will be posting them every week or so till I run out. Thanks again.
You're right, moving logs is a lot of work- nicely done , especially by yourself.
Great to see y’all back hope everything is good
Glad to see your Video, Hope you do a bunch More! Always enjoyed your content. God Bless!
Glad you are back. My first job ever was setting chokers on logs to be dragged to a logging truck. It was hard work and relatively dangerous. Your video brought back some fond memories.
Good to see you back.Stay safe.
Thanks.
A very satisfying watch 👍
Good to see another vid. Those will make some nice boards.
I've since milled the logs, they came out nice. Currently drying to be siding and floor boards.
HE’S AALIIVE! (I seen the house renovation videos they’re amazing too)
are u sure that's him? not a body double or something
I really enjoy your work. It's the things I like. It gets me motivated to get off my ass. I have a small mill but haven't had it running for two years.
Ha, get up Tiger Lily! You need to clean that carburetor up and fire that thing up!
Exactly. And drain the old gas out.
hey...great to see you back...if possible! please share more content!
thank you. best to you and yours. walt+mrs.
I plan on it. I have another video I’ll post this upcoming week. It’s kind of the same but loading up two very large oak logs from someone’s yard in town. I’ll make another video milling them as well.
You’re on a roll, 1 in 1 year.
Nice looking logs you harvested.
Some kind of record i’m sure
Wow, those are big logs. Stay safe. Peace and good fortune and good health to you and your family. 😃
I've got a video coming next week or so that show some really big logs I got from a yard.
@@thehomesteadcraftsman8975 Awesome 👌 I look forward to seeing that video. Love all you do! 😃
Enjoyed!!!
Thank you
Lots of folks out here woodworking and milling because they love it, but often it ain't a prosperous endeavor. 🙂
It is good that you have the raw materials need to reshape it's gifts. I find it refreshing to be in the midst of the trees of a forest in a seemingly quiet setting and then my senses awaken by the grind of a chainsaw and then gravity takes over as the standing tree falls with a thud along the forest floor.
Is there anything that you cannot do? You’re a talented and busy man.
Plenty.
That three point hitch would be handy to lift the trunk up off the dirt a bit. Just my two cents
they are if you have the right attachment
👍😁
Great to see this. Agreed it may not be financially viable to do. Still great to see it.
One could but you’d have to start out with low overhead and no family to get anywhere with it. Selling wood on a small level would be very hard. I think the best solution is making an end product like tables. But having a mill, kiln, storage, a shop and paying uncle Sam I don’t know how anyone does anything without having 10 sources of income. I don’t mean it as a downer but it took me a lot of time and figuring out stuff to have what you see.
The color of that dead leafs is stunning. And now I wonder if this foliage is the reason why 'dirt' from under some of your houses is so rich in color. Or contrariwise.
It's an easy repair, most hardware stores will have the wire.
Are you still making and selling farm tables?
Great video.
On occasion but not as my main “job” any more. With that said, I am planning on getting that ball rolling again at suns point. It’s decent money as king as you have the process and materials together. With the mill wood is easy but I don’t have a kiln. I’m also going to make a new shop and then I can work on getting customers which is easy when you are one guy.
Glad to see you back! Just curious, what does white oak sell for in your area?
Thanks, I really don't know as far as price goes. I don't buy or sell wood. But I'd say nice, dry white oak is going to be up there in price.
@@thehomesteadcraftsman8975 It usually is. It's anywhere from $15-22/bf here in CO. My guess is that it's cheaper in your area, though probably not by much. Looking forward to the vids!
So, two cents question, why do you chamfer your logs at the end (ends?) ?
So they don’t hang up and dig into the ground as easily.
Asked this question a while back, but wondering if we're going to get to see what's become of some of those slabs you milled up with the Alaskan chainsaw mill?
Still stacked, just not in the position to use them yet and it’s not hurting them to keep drying
Didn't realise how tall that tree was until i saw you at the base
Very tall, well over 100 feet.
Hey buddy. Never miss an opportunity to show off your wood, do ya? Haha
I think that was the reason the internet was developed.
Dude where have you been? 4 videos in 2 years!?
I take my time, basically just been too busy to make videos for this channel but aiming at getting back into it.
Would you do custom buck 110 ? I'll pay
What model tractor was that?
2012 John Deere 5055e
Very kind of you to reply!
Need ballast on front of tractor (forks)!
It may have made a difference but it was way too much to pull uphill and over the crest.
Just try it next time. I have 54 years experience. Front wheel drive is no good if the wheels are not on the ground! Look at the weights on the front of farm tractors. Be sure to use all safety equipment, especially seatbelt. I’ve seen it prevent serious injuries and deaths many times. Me included. “Good judgment comes from experience, which comes from bad judgment!
Disappointing that you didn't mill them up. Oh well.
Sorry to have created the source for your disappointment.
