I went on this 12 years ago when I visited Australia for the first time it was old glad it has been reopened but sadly with new effects old ones removed just goes to show that nothing is the same anymore oh well.
When I was a little kid the drop at the end always used to scare the shit out of me, and one of my ‘triggers’ was the ominous noise the rail system makes at 3:08
This ride brings back happy childhood memories for. I first went on this ride when I was 7yo in "87". Take a trip away from your everyday take a Dreamworld one day... you can fly, you can scream, you can make a splash & you can dream... Where's the gumnut fairy lady?
Same. I was there in the 80's as well although I'm a few years older. I remember driving those cars (ones guided on rails that did about 3 KPH tops) as well. The park was a lot smaller back then and a lot simpler (no tower of terror / giant drop *I like both of those rides*
I first went on this when I was 4 in ‘84. I was terrified of that tunnel with the coloured lights and animatronic crocodile, and then I was made to go on it again later that day, so I closed my eyes nearly the whole way! 😂
Man there used to be so much more life in this ride. I remember the overhead section at 1:50 had a Triceratops with extremely loud audio. The 90's were definitely the best period for Dreamworld, now the rides are 20 odd years old and failing.
I don't think this ever really had much of an atmosphere to it outside of some semi interesting aesthetics. If you want a log flume with atmosphere in Australia, Wild West Falls will always be number 1
The lighting was added in light of 5 people dying on another ride, so the park was inspected and a whole lot of other things got pulled up and fixed... Yes the rides are 20 years old, hence why wipeout has been closed, and why these rides have been updated and refurbished.
I went on wipeout shame it’s gone the claw might still be there did that one as well they also had the big brother stage attraction not sure if that still there either.
I used to love this ride so much! I was terrified of the one at movie world but I enjoyed this one a lot! Sad that it’s closed and abandoned in the park
All the added generic lighting in the final lift hill is a joke. Dreamworld are too petrified of anything happening in dark. Plus the jury-rigged safety canopy just makes the logs look like Flintstones cars.
So sad that this closed down. This was a family favourite, as my sister just moved to Alice spring while we in Queensland and we would go on this ride every single time we went to this place. Just sad :(
I remember at 1:49 there was a skeleton hanging on the top and also further down at arounf 1:57 there was another enclosed area with diferent coloured lights and a Fake crocodile where it's jaw moved and had audio of a roar. was more creepy back in the late 80's and early 90's
It did when I rode it but it was closed and refurbished after an accident with the water thunder river had an accident. That was the one I went on but no longer exists.
I have been on that ride when I was five now I’m 12 so looking back on this is crazy how different it is you should search up what it was like back then
sad really that use to be an awesome ride dreamworld has gone so far down hill from what it use to be even before the fatality back in the 90s and early 2000s to me it was as good as movie world
There was a trick. If your the front passenger when going down hill for the big splash and you lean forward and the person behind you gets soaked. There face is priceless especially if there family
I went this year and everything was opened except the log ride and the other one because of the 4 deaths.... The only reason they closed the log ride was because a boy got injured cause he stood up and fell off and got hit by another log.... I remember coming to dream world every year and going on both those rides. I'm happy they opened the log ride but sad about the deaths
There *was* roof cages on them because some idiot stood up on the ride and was injured, but now the ride is shut down for good, along with a lot of the other good rides at Dreamworld.
@@AdroSuperDopa My childhood was the Big Red Car ride, so I feel you. Honestly speaking, Dreamworld as a whole is probably going to shut down soon if it doesn't get new management.
@@spreezyt9567 Ah yeah, I remember marathoning that and Wipeout when it was still open. Haven't been to Dreamworld for a while, though, as nowadays I just get a Village Roadshow One Pass.
What’s the point of the canopy? Is this device supposed to keep you in the log? If it’s supposed to keep you from getting wet, isn’t that the purpose of a log ride anyways? Still it looks like a lot of fun to ride!
If you want to ride a good log flume, go to Movie World, not only because it is better, but because now it is your only option as the one at Dreamworld has closed down. The reason for the roof was because someone thought it would be a good idea to stand up on the ride, and got injured due to that, but it was right around the same time that the River Rapids incident happened so it was barely brought up.
Tricoart Wow, that’s crazy for someone to stand up on a boat ride. We had the same thing happen at Universal Studios in a Florida. The issue here was the person didn’t understand English (reading or writing). When the boat was nearing the final drop they actually stood up and got off the boat. No one could speak to them so they had to shut down the ride. To get them off the platform. A year later they installed ratcheting restraints. I don’t like the idea because if the boat tips over you’re stuck inside. And another ride “shoot the rapids” at cedar point slipped down a hill backwards, flipped and the people were under water for several minutes restrained in their boat. All because of an overreach for safety.
Phil Rabe someone stood up on this and got hurt a while back around the same time the rapids crashed and a few people died. It's just dreamworld making it look like they're doing things to make the park safer despite the fact the rides are as safe as can be already.
@GreenBlock12 They have to, I guess. So much came out in the accident inquiry about their lax safety standards, lack of maintainance and non-existent emergency management plans, they probably felt they had to do something to win the public back. But now it's gone too far in the other direction.
I did rapid as well I think that closed down not only because it was old they might have been an accident just the same incident at Drayton manor where a young girl fell over Board or the boat capsized and she drowned.
@@jacquesca True, though it was specifically because someone thought it would be a good idea to stand up on the ride, and subsequently got injured. I agree, though, Dreamworld is getting worse and worse as the years go by, and they are just scrambling to make themselves seem better instead of just being better.
I think that Shoot the Chute rides like this are such boring teases for much of the ride that, once you've been down the last and only big drop, the path should fork and a rail comes down and guides your log left down a different path which immediately takes you back round just before the last hill lift for one more big drop after which time the rail is now guiding your log right and to the station. As they currently are, they just feel like poor man's log flumes (as log flumes in major parks tend to have at least 2 or 3 biggish drops) with extra decorations and wood huts to distract you from that fact. OK, this ride is like a Shoot the Chute with a log instead of a big boat. Maybe it feels so intense, then, for that 1 big drop, that most people don't mind.
Dreamworld needs to spend much more money. Ardent has run the Park down and just isn't competitive with Villiage Roadshow. I'm glad they're putting in a $17 million dollar new ride this year, but they need a plan to put in one new $10million dollar ride every year for the next few seasons. They need to totally refresh the park completely. Obviously this classic should stay, but New Rides need to go in where Eureka Mountain was, a well themed Family Dark Ride should be installed and a few new full circuit Rollercoasters need to be added.
Just to give you an idea of the the kind of money they are giving themselves and nothing towards the park. The year of the tragic accident at dreamworld the ceo was given around $700 000 as a bonus for that year alone. Thats not including the high salary or even the high executives salary and bonuses. Why do you think they only come out with a new ride every few years instead of every year like most top amusement parks
Idk if you know this but somebody died on a ride here not too long ago so out of respect to the people who died a lot of people don’t want to give money to the theme park.
@@hi-ce1wy Four people were killed on the river rapids ride when an empty raft collided with a raft containing six people at the bottom of a chute and caused it to flip. Two children were thrown clear, but two others were trapped underwater and drowned, and another two died a horrific death by being thrown into the conveyor machinery and crushed. A lot came out in the subsequent inquiry about lack of ride maintenance, lack of safety standards and no systems in place to manage emergencies. As a result Dreamworld had to embark on a major public relations exercise, re-doing all their rides and offering special customer deals, to try to win the public back again.
Now it is even more empty with even more ride closures, but at least now they are scrambling to put in another ride that will turn out to be as crappily managed as the rest of them
