I read in the liner notes of Seger's greatest hits CD that there are actually 2 separate drummers playing on this song. Once you know that, if you listen closely, you can hear them. I think it was Seger also said that the first time he heard it played on the radio, he looked down at the speedometer of his car and he was doing 90.

You aren't old enough to remember Cheryl Tiegs. She was one of the first super models to appear on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue way back in the early seventies. (You need to see the picture of her in a mesh net one piece. That picture almost turned me into a man years before I was ready. Anyway.....)
Bob saw that picture (It was a Time Magazine cover and NOT a Sports Illustrated cover that Bob saw to inspire this song. I kind of knew that but the thought of Cheryl Tiegs must have scrambled my brains for a bit. Thanks to Will Dwyer for slapping some sense into my addled brain.) of Ms. Tiegs and thought to himself, "What if a young boy from the midwest went to California and met this girl?" And thus was born another Seger classic.
I can never tire of Bob. Timeless and joyous music.

Thank you for sharing this. Seger was one of my brother's favorite singers back in the '70s. This song is basically the story of his life. Midwestern boy, moved to LA area, fell in love, and sadly it ended. He ultimately lost his life to the losses he experienced. But he loved California when he was there. Every time I hear this song it takes me back to my brother.

This reminds me of times spent with my older brother and his son's, on our way to Smith MTN. Lake, Va.
We'd go for a weekend, or longer to fish for hybrid stripers, listening to Bob Seger all the way there, and back.

1987. I was home on leave from West Germany. The night before I scheduled to go back Brother Bob was going to play at the Myriad in Oklahoma City, sold out of course. The day of the show it was announced there were extra seats available. I went to the box office and got tickets for me and my best friend. What a way to send me off. One of the best shows I have seen. Thanks Jamal for sharing these videos with us. Peace my brother 🙏

Went to see him live twenty years ago. Sounded just as good as his records. Should give a listen to "Like a Rock" by him. Good enough for Chevy trucks to use as their theme song for their commercials for years and years. Known as one of the greatest balladeers of all time.

We here in Michigan are famous for world-class rockers. Segar (metro Detroit), Ted Nugent (Jackson), Rare Earth (Detroit), Grand Funk Railroad (Flint) to name just a few. Trivia: Craig Frost is the keyboard player on this record. He grew up in Flint and was with Grand Funk Railroad until their breakup in '74 and then joined Segar. He's been with him ever since. Michigan rocks...!

Bob Seger was almost required listening when I was growing up in the Detroit area (Bob is from nearby Ann Arbor). I couldn't even begin to guess how many nights I spent listening to his music in the dark with my headphones on, much less in my car with the windows down.
Some other songs you might consider reacting to: Mainstreet, Rock and Roll Never Forgets, Mary Lou, Her Strut, We've Got Tonight, Beautiful Loser, and Fire Down Below.

I don't what is about Bob Seger, When You're actually listening to His Music He'll Be my Favorite Singer Songwriter of All Time and that Particular Song will be the greatest song Ever Written.. And yet Anytime someone asks me who's your Favorites.. It's always the Doors , Led Zepplin... Bob Seger's name never hits that list.. But when You're listening in that Moment His Words, His Music Grabs your brain your soul, Your Memories, He is everyman living everyone's life at the same time and Belting it out loud and Proud. He is the Soundtrack of Life incarnate. Thanks Bob!!!

I'm a drummer of 35 years plus. I learned this song years ago. Played in a band opening for metal bands for 2 years. Loved every minute and I was 18. Didn't work out $$$. This groove is difficult to stay on top of. Kick ass groove. Watch your stuff simply because you seem to be good people brother. Hope the future is good to you. Time to subscribe. Stay true to yourself. HSAS missing you with Sammy Hagar is a kick ass song 98 percent of America has never heard. Give it a listen.
