I love that you painted it metallic blue. I have darn near the same mini. My old man bought it for me on my eighth birthday. powered by a flat head and it is painted..... Metallic blue!! The flat head is blown up (may have been over revved) and I have been contemplating restoring it to its glory of my youth. I have an old racing 5hp Briggs sitting in the attic waiting to be put back in service. This video may have given me the inspiration that I needed to get the project started.

Brought me back guys. I had a bike just like that when I was a kid. Can't wait to see it kick some china engine butt. I always enjoy Minibike Monday. Thanks guys.
I've got 1 now but it's worth more restored, I was going to fit a spare Honda C90 MTR to have a monster trail bike until I had a massive stroke @ 57 yrs old & can't walk or use my right hand. Was going to let the local kids ride it. 😪Trev New Zealand
We had those in the 70's. Fun to ride and useful in the pit stop. My dad was a mechanic for a motorcycle racing team so we would ride those back and forth to get parts, food, drinks, and sometimes help!Great video, keep it up, I actually learned a lot.
That is a sweet looking build - that blue really pops. The gas tank clamps with the vertical bolts - lets just say, don’t hit any speed bumps! Keep doing what you do, dudes!
John, have you ever worked on a new Briggs?,, I understand your sponsors don't carry them but maybe you should check out all the engines they have before making a judgement. Take care.
They make race engines now expensive but i bet there bullet proof briggs i always felt were good, the point of saying they'll run smokey means they'll run even when there worn the hell out i dont think the same can be said about a predator
Beautiful restoration job guys !! The metallic blue looks great. Also like the chain guard, it also protects you from the centrifugal clutch which gets red hot ...
I started out riding dirt bikes right off the bat at 6 years old. So short i had to run beside and jump on because i was too short to stand-up on the dirt bike. Lol. But in 1980 i got a minibike when i was 11 with a 5hp Briggs. No governor, head work. It was so fun to ride. And it was metallic dark blue. A 70s blue for sure. Lol. Nice vid guys. Brought back memories. Thank you

I remember these old mini bikes from my youth. My younger brother and I always wanted one, unfortunately we were to poor to own one when we were kids. I'm on the lookout for a project bike now.
Future tip. When I made my mini bike seat. I just used the seating cushion from a dinning room table chair. It was perfect. It has a wood bottom already as well as a padding obviously. And it can be cut to any shape. I then wrapped it with fabric and bam, perfect mini bike seat.

Personally,I prefer Briggs and Stratton better than predator because my predator on my racing go kart is ALWAYS BREAKING.My Briggs and Stratton has been running for over 13 years!!I do like the power of Predator tho!!
My family had one like this - a "Red Indian". My brothers and I would take turns to ride it ... Pretty sure we paid $50 for it second hand, and the centrifugal clutch was worn to the bone (the pads were almost completely gone and was metal on metal), so it had a slow acceleration and not much pull up a hill, but on the flat it could build up some decent speed. When we replaced the centrifugal clutch (I think that cost $20 to $30 back then for the part - so almost as much as the bike cost second hand), we were shocked at the difference ... the bike accelerated fast and could pull up really steep hills and out of ditches really well. Nothing could stop it. The bike and the metal "ding ding" bell sound I hear when your bike runs brings back a flood of memories .... a great little bike, great times with my brothers .... makes me wish I could turn back the clock ...
*Nerofury* I had the exact same predicament as a young man, many verticals, horizontals out of my price range. I made a go cart with a vertical engine (my first, an ugly but functional wooden contraption) but I got lucky and found an old riding mower transmission for almost no money at the scrapyard. That is a good place to find engines for almost nothing, most yards will let you browse the metal pile and buy whatever you want for cheap. Another cheap resource is Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, apps like Offer Up and LetGo- you just have to learn to refine your searches to find old engines for $15-25. Good luck, have fun!
Nerofury there are plenty of videos on here that show the conversion. IMO its just not worth it. Too easy to come across a decent horizontal shaft cheap!
